Welcome to my PbP game for the Solstice Scar, version D (#8-99D) Special, as part of Outpost II. Hope you would have a blast!
Before we start, I would to share some of my ground rules. (In spoiler tags to not take up space.)
PbP Matters
1. This discussion thread is open for all OOC matters, so no ooc tag needed. For OOC matters in the gameplay thread, please use the [ ooc ] tag.
2. Please post at least once a day, including on weekends. Honestly, though, as a special, more frequent posting is definitely better. I’ll personally target at least 2 posts a day for myself. If you have not played a special before, generally each encounter is timed, so we would have a fixed number of days to clear through each. Also, very often, not only would our progress contribute to our individual table success, it would also contribute to the success of all the tables. If you would be away, please let me know in advance where possible, and we can work something out. Otherwise, if you go missing, where necessary, I will bot your characters for the sake of the rest of everyone else. Thus, a good idea is to leave botting instructions for combat (with dice rolls) and non-combat in your profile page beforehand.
3. If you have any disagreements over some of my GM calls or interpretation of the rules, please take it to the discussion thread or, even better, pm me.
4. If you have played and/or GMed this scenario before (including version A), or are currently GMing this for another table, please do not metagame or spoil the plot. And please let me know.
5. I would have thought this would go without mentioning until I encountered this, so… It is the responsibility of the player to keep track of the game, including referencing the map on google slides. I understand that there are times where it is inconvenient to do so. In that case, please be as specific as you can as to where you wish your character to move, what actions to take, etc. If you regularly have issues with accessing the google slides, you might want to reconsider playing via PbP, especially for PFS as there is always combat, and thus map dependent.
Combat
6. Once surprise (if any) and initiative is determined, for the group of characters who can take actions, I would resolve actions in posting order, NOT initiative order. I used to do the latter but it doesn’t work that well in PbP, so am going with the former instead. Also to speed up posting rate, I group the enemies’ initiative block together.
Rolls and Skill Checks
7. I would do your initiative rolls, as well as perception rolls for the purpose of determining surprise (if any).
8. On knowledge checks for general information, I would usually put them in spoilers with the necessary DCs. Just go ahead to roll, and I'll trust that you would resist reading them if the roll fails (or least not to metagame). (Don’t forget that you can make knowledge checks untrained for DC10.) There might be exceptions for plot-critical information though, where I would explicitly ask for knowledge checks. As for knowledge checks for monster lore, I would put the most basic information in spoiler as well, i.e. identity and one important info. If your roll would reveal more, I’ll provide in the next post what I feel is most relevant for your character. If you wish, you can ask for what information you want.
9. On skill checks where there could be team effort involved, e.g. finding a hidden trail with survival, influencing attitude of NPCs with diplomacy, please be explicit when making the rolls whether you are attempting the check on your own, or whether you are assisting. (And take note of the pros and cons of either.) There might be situations where only one character is allowed to attempt the check (and the rest to assist) – I’ll state so explicitly if that’s the case.
10. On skill checks in general, if I feel you have roleplayed well, e.g. gave a good description of what your character does to search for a trail, came up with creative ways to befriend a hostile NPC, gave a very rousing speech, I would give bonuses, or even waive the DC altogether. :)
Roleplaying Matters
11. The maps and handouts link (at the top of the page) would display all the maps, handouts, pictures, etc as the scenario progresses. The most current page would be right on top, while previous ones would be left there for your reference. (Incidentally, Android and IOS has the Google Slides app in case you work off mobile devices.)
12. Please have your full character information up on your character's profile page for my vetting. Also, please have your stat block updated with the key information. Minimally please have your current hp vs max hp, AC (normal, touch and flat-footed), all three saves and movement. Feel free to include others.
13. Finally, playing by pbp provides many advantages compared to face-to-face games, the chief one being having the time and space to flesh out your thoughts and actions. So please make use of this and have posts that are more than simply dice rolls. :)
Getting Started
Ok with that out of the way, a few tasks before we kick off.
A. Go to the Gameplay page and dot.
B. Go to the maps and handouts page and fill out the table there. (Don’t worry about the 3 boxes below the table, i.e. token, initiative and perception. I’ll take care of that.)
C. In this Discussion thread, do your day job rolls (if any), and share whatever OOC information you would like the rest of the party to know about your character e.g. class, level, special abilities. We’ll leave character descriptions and introductions to the gameplay thread later when we are about to start.
This multi-table special is expected to start on 11 Mar 2019, so mark it on your calendar!
Fantastic!

Drelluandast is a conjurer wizard. In a crunch, he can squeeze a summon spell out as a standard action - but he runs the risk of becoming fatigued from doing so.

At higher levels, spring-loaded wrist sheaths and potions of lesser restoration are very handy. I’m considering the accelerated drinker trait just because of this.
For my lvl6 conjurer, who also graduated from the academae.

Very true, but could get expensive. I'm getting that Fort save as high as possible (50/50 shot right now) and planning to adopt a lyrakian azata as a familiar later (1/day remove fatigue and other stuff). Whole dramatic story arc of how this gnome wants to summon every creature at least once, then expands his list with Summon Good Monster (and has to go back for the new options at lower levels), then his azata just "happens" to mention that there are such things as aerial octopi, and it's going to blow his poor little gnome brain that he'll have to summon all of those variations as well.

Very cool.
My caster is an elf so high-con was never on the cards.
Wand of Lesser Restoration for recovery between encounters, potion for emergencies.
Did not know that about the azata, interesting...

Is there a problem with the game play thread? I have tried to ninja dot several times with my character and it fails to be updated on the thread.
Update- Nevermind it just took several attempts to get it to work. There must me some gremlins in the Paizo website.

"Greetings fellow adventurers... Eru'Tept here!"
Eru'Tept is clad in clothing and other trappings common among the Osiriani (warm weather gear)- as well as bearing the emblems of a priest of Selket, which include a rather vicious looking scorpion whip.
"May the goddess Selket bless you in this life and the next."

Did you initially tried to post a literal dot, i.e. "."? Seldiir had already posted that earlier in the gameplay thread. Paizo forums stops you from posting an exact duplicate of an earlier post which might have been why you couldn't dot in. If not, an issue Paizo forums have been having is that you might need to refresh the page a few times after posting to see it appear.

Oh yes, could you also let me know if this or other character has played the earlier versions of Solstice Scar, and if so which ones? So I know how much of the story you would need to catch up on.

Can I do some shopping before we start?
Oh yes, of course!

Babine as played all of them. But is level 1
Babine, if you have played through Versions A-C, wouldn't you be at least level 2? Or did you play them on slow progression?
EVeryone, we are a week from game start. Please make sure if you:
1. Filled in your character details in the table at the maps and handouts slides.
2. Have included all the key information in your character profile line (see item 12 in the guidelines above).
3. Have clear botting instructions, including cut & paste dice rolls, in your character page. (You can refer to my character Xuan Fung as an example. Scroll down to the bottom.) As this is a special, we will move fast and I will hold to the expectations of one post a day. If you are going to be away for some time, please update me so that we can activate botting. If there isn't a post within 24 hours and there are no botting instructions, I'll have to put your character on delay in combat.

Hugh, i have played C 7-8 with a pregen but the gm didn't put it the reward in the 1-2 tier for some reason.

Hello! Vincenza (Vinny) is an alchemist with a penchant for blowing things up. She enjoys coffee, cats, making bombs, and getting paid. In between adventures, she works in her family's flower shop.
Day Job, Florist: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
ETA: Vinny has not played this adventure before.

Hello everyone! Vindex is a somewhat taciturn fighter who enjoys a good fight and a chance to grow his personal strength and skill. In combat, he uses a Naginata he inherited from his grandfather (Heirloom weapon; he trips with it when appropriate). That gives him reach, and he has the Phalanx Fighting feat so allies won't block him from being able to take attacks of opportunity.
Vindex has not played the solstice scar before, but I have played part A on a different character.

You’ve been randomly selected to begin the special with one of the Aid Tokens.
AID TOKEN #4
Passing Aid Token to: GM Kuey
Current Boosts: None

We would be starting very soon and there are still some things pending.
1. Babine, Vindex, both of you are using the same token. Could I kindly ask one of you to change just for this scenario to make my life easier?
2. Babine, can you fill in the table at the maps and handouts page?
3. Not all of you have all the following information in your stats line current hp vs max hp, AC (normal, touch and flat-footed), all three saves and movement): Babine (all), Seldiir (missing movement), Eru'Tept (saves, movement)
4. Drelluandast, can I confirm if you're level 1 or 2? It says level 1 on your character sheet, but level 2 on the table.
5. Seldiir, day jobs?
6. Marching order: The following would be the default order. Let me know if you're ok.
a. Babine
b. Vindex
c. Seldiir
d. Eru'Tept
e. Vincenza
f. Drelluandast

Aid Tokens
For those who have not played before, you might not know what aid tokens are. Essentially, they represent aid that some random passing Pathfinder provided your team. If our table has an aid token, once per encounter, any character at a table can use an Aid Token to assist the group in one of the ways described below. It is a free action to use the aid token. Once used, I'll pass it on. A table can only benefit from one token per encounter.
It is very tempting to hoard an aid token until you feel desperate to use, but because there are a limited number of Aid Tokens; hoarding one means that other tables don't get to use it. While it might be optimal for a table to hoard, it is actually optimal for the entire house if the aid tokens are constantly being passed on. If done well, all tables can get aids for every encounter! And remember, the success of the house depends on all tables' contributions - no one table can carry the house.
If you don't want to use the Aid Token, rather than hoarding it, you can instead boost its potency by expending some of their own resources or attempting a skill check, then pass it on. In fact, some Aid Token benefits may be used only if already boosted by another table.
Types of Aid (these are also summarised in link in my statline)
Allied Offensive: A Pathfinder agent strikes a creature at the same time as the PC, increasing the damage dealt by one attack by 1d8 points. In addition, after the attack, anyone attacking the target is considered to be flanking it until the beginning of the attacker’s next turn.
To Boost: Succeed at an attack roll against an AC equal to an Average skill check. Boosted Effect: +1d8 points of damage.
Burst of Healing: A Pathfinder agent heals all of the PCs of 1d6 points of damage.
To Boost: Expend one use of channel positive energy or cast one spell with the healing descriptor with a spell level greater than or equal to 1. A PC must cast this spell, not simply activate a wand or scroll. Boosted Effect: +2d6 points of damage healed.
Timely Inspiration: A Pathfinder agent provides the effects of a bard’s inspire courage bardic performance for 3 rounds, with competence bonus of +1.
To Boost: Expend 3 rounds of bardic performance or similar ability. Boosted Effect: Increase the competence bonus by 1.
Provide Knowledge (Must Be Boosted): Gain the benefits of a Knowledge skill check or Spellcraft skill check used to identify a magical item.
To Boost: Succeed at a Knowledge check of your choice (determining what type) and the result of the check determines how good your aid is.
Provide Spellcasting (Must Be Boosted): Gain the benefits of a beneficial spell cast by an ally.
To Boost: Cast one of the following spells: lesser restoration, neutralize poison, remove curse, or remove disease. Only these spells may be granted. Expending resources that produce the effects of these spells, such as a paladin’s mercy class feature, may also grant these benefits.

Ah, thanks for changing Babine! I was going to change when I realized we had chosen the same image, but I had some trouble finding where to do that.
For future reference, where is the portrait selection again? I must have known this at some point to get my profiles set up, but I am having trouble finding it.

![]() |

Whoops! He got some GM credit that I'd forgotten about that pushed him up to lvl 2 - I'll get that updated by the end of the day, if not earlier. Sorry!

![]() |

Alright, gang! We've started in the gameplay thread. As this is a special, I ask that you try to post as soon as you can. Many encounters result in accumulation of successes for the whole house, such that the more successes now often lead to easier encounters later on.
Game on!

![]() |

Guys, since you completed the last combat so well, there was no need for the aid token. Can I suggest we boost it an pass it on? My suggestion is to boost for Allied Offensive, since it doesn't use any resource, and is always useful. If ok, can someone just make an attack roll, and I'll pass it on.

Vindex has +8 to trip, but +6 to normal attacks. He'll make an attack roll.
Yeah, I'm getting the impression they don't respond well to whatever their face is displaying. Maybe Vindex will go yell at the calm one to try and intimidate him.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Dear fellow, I would be away on a hiking trip this weekend. GM Aerondor has kindly agreed to cover for me over this weekend. I leave you in very good hands!

![]() |

Hi all. I'll be stepping in to slaughter you while kuey is off enjoying the wilderness.

I've been having some issues with maps the last couple of days, and had to use a different browser, which seems to work but is annoying. It doesn't happen to all maps for me though.

Hi everyone! I'm back, recovering from sprains, blisters and lack of sleep but ready to continue. Thanks very to Aerondor for covering for me!

My pleasure. If you could remove me from the player/character list, that would help keep my game list tidy.
