boon?: 1d20 ⇒ 18 So close, and yet so far...
Thanks, everyone, this was a really fun scenario, and much more challenging than most. I'm going to look forward to running this one myself! I'd say we were lucky to escape without a TPK. Nice work.

Yes, though I'm not sure that I will do that. I can just recruit a "new" replacement for free, though it won't know any tricks except the bonus tricks, so I'll need to retrain it. But it might be worth doing that since my plan now in any case is to dip a level of Hunter or Inquisitor to get skirmisher tricks for the rhino. So I need to look into the best way to do all of that. But thanks for the suggestion.

I'd be happy to chip in. I've always been of the "resurrection is part of the higher-level PC Bill of Rights" persuasion.

I feel the same way. Happy to chip in.

I'll wait for Otto's reply before fixing&sending the chronicles, but he is right, it's quite literally free to replace an animal companion. Raise animal companion would cost 450gp + 1000gp for material components. Picking a new companion is free - you just need to teach it the tricks again. Assuming at least 3 ranks & +10 in handle animal, Otto could teach it three new tricks at the end of this adventure and three new tricks at the beginning of the next one, so it would have a total of 6 tricks (maximum if it has Int 2.)
I'll need to know if Otto goes with a new companion or which ones of you chip in so that I can record the tricks taught/money spent on the chronicles.

Many thanks for the offer to help with raising Rhon - it is greatly appreciated and I'm also of the same 'help out your party members' philosophy. That said, for a purely mechanical reasons, I will decline. After this adventure, Otto will level up and is has always been my intention for Otto to take a 1 level dip in either Hunter or Inquisitor (Sacred Huntmaster) - haven't decided which yet - for the purpose of giving his companion hunter's tricks. So, since replacing the dead companion itself is free, and I want to replace many of his existing tricks now, it actually makes sense to just start with a new companion. I'll post some rp in the gameplay thread to reflect this choice.
One point of clarification regarding the new tricks: John Compton told me at Scarabcon a few years ago that when an animal companion dies and is replaced, the new one begins ONLY knowing however many bonus tricks it has for its level (in this case, that'll be three, which I'll use for the two basic Attack tricks and one hunter trick tbd). The training of additional tricks (a number of them up to your ranks in Handle Animal) can't be attempted until *after* the next scenario. This isn't *at all* clear in the faq about Animal Companions, but since he told it to me personally in a one on one conversation, I've treated it as an official ruling, for me at least.
Edit: btw, I think the raise animal companion is a bit more expensive in any case because I think you also need to pay for two restorations to deal with the post-raise negative levels.

Huh, thanks for the clarification, that isn't at all clear from the FAQ. Good point on the two restorations, too, makes it waaay more expensive
Also, you guys were super lucky that it was the rhino that went from Alive to Dead in one swing. With those rolls, it could have been any one of you ^_^;

Sorry for the delay, I'll try to get your chronicles out by wednesday!

Chronicles have been sent, please check that you received them and that everything is correct.
Thanks for the game!

Oh, right! The negative levels are gone after 1,5 weeks - they aren't permanent, so you don't need to pay anything to remove them, Reesa.

Thanks GM - this was a great and exciting game!

GM Tomppa, when you get a chance would you mind marking this game as inactive?
