Firewarden Yanda
|
If nothing is discovered, Yanda will give the black lever a try.
| GM Abraham |
Uhvat identifies that the lamps in the area appear to be magical in nature. Nothing seems particularly psychically significant.
Yanda approaches the levers and notes that they can be raised, lowered, or left in the middle. Both are currently in the middle position.
Uhvat Balanos
|
Uhvat stands guard just behind Yanda, his ectoplasmic lash waving in the air. While he outwardly remains as stoically calm as ever, the lash writhes about more animatedly.
Firewarden Yanda
|
"Of course it is risky, but what choice do we have? Proabely going to have to try various combinations and suffer the consequences before we get it right. Anyone have any magic that might help. If not..."
Firewarden Yanda
|
Yanda pushes the black lever up.
Black Sun
|
"We're in a giant puzzle-box," Observes a small voice flatly from behind Yanda - it's the little Wayang (barely-a-) woman again; funny (and a little bit unnerving) how you'd all but forgotten she was there until now.
Knowledge (Dungeoneering), let's see if that can help in ANY way: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
Any OTHER types of Knowledge check that might be useful here?
___
Minor flashback/retcon, if I may:
Black Sun had spendt much of the journey to and descent through the Spire engrossed in a thick book of strange riddles and puzzles, never breaking or slowing stride for it, as though she had absolutely no need to look where she was going along the way....
puzzle-book Intelligence check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
| GM Abraham |
When Patros engages the red lever, the bronze wall clanks loudly as it rotates aside, revealing a bronze-walled, angled passageway. Map has been updated.
Black Sun, no relevant knowledges, at least not yet.
Firewarden Yanda
|
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Yanda downs her mutagen and moves jut far enough trough the passageway to take a look at the next room.
"A puzzle-box, indeed; somehow, I don't think we are done with those levers."
| GM Abraham |
Around the corner Yanda can see the passage continues and, at the far end, stand a pair of double doors. All doors on this level, unless otherwise stated, are well-constructed, unadorned, and made of wood.
Firewarden Yanda
|
Yanda is not used to forging on ahead in front of the group, but then the folks she is travelling with do not seem to be the type to take a front seat.
This could be dangerous. The half-orc does carry a big honkin' sword, but has leather armor. And, in spite of the heavy weighted sword, she seems to want to be behind me. Wonder what her story is?
She ends up giving the falcata wielding human the nod.
"You look like you can handle being up front. I've noticed you practicing all that footwork and the only footwork I know is how to fall back. You want to take point?"
We should decide on a marching order.
Firewarden Yanda
|
What's a falcata and who has it?
Patros, according to his character page. Two of them it seems :) See this page for info on a falcata.
| GM Abraham |
The door stands there, silently challenging the pathfinders. It does not appear to be locked.
| GM Abraham |
Zenae WP wrote:What's a falcata and who has it?Patros, according to his character page. Two of them it seems :) See this page for info on a falcata.
Patros, as noted in Discussion, has decided to drop the game.
Firewarden Yanda
|
That's almost funny. He pulled the lever and then ran for it!
In the interest of keeping things moving, Yanda marches over to the door and opens it, motioning the others to follow.
| GM Abraham |
The door opens without difficulty. A variety of artwork and keepsakes are displayed on the walls of this chamber: a tapestry depicting a royal court, an oddly melted lump of iron on a pedestal, a fine heavy mace hanging on the wall, and a broken staff lying on another pedestal. Another door stands on the opposite side of the room, closed.
Map updated
Firewarden Yanda
|
Yanda hesitates at the door, something in her sub-conscious screaming trap at her.
"Say, any of you guys know anything about traps. Not that there is one, but it pays to check. I'm a fair hand at it myself, but I'm no good at the magical stuff.
Yanda takes a look around to see if anything looks off.
"Weird how that stuff is sitting out there on pedestals. Broken and melted stuff. I'd say that is a bad sign."
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Black Sun
|
"Maybe it is another monument to failure - like in Absalom?"
Black Sun takes a closer look at the melted iron....
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Jangafzaar Kargar
|
* * New Pathfinder incoming * *
A dwarf suddenly appears in your midst. He looks at you curiously.
”I am Replacement I think. Jangzafaar is my name. I read the report that was provided to me!“
He scratches his red hair with a desperate look on his face.
”But what you have seen firsthand is of far more value ... tell me what you have found so far!“
* *
Jangafzaar is a Dwarf from a Kelish merchant family. He works as a merchant and can be a stoic negotiator with an empathic approach. He is very perceptive and understands people's motives which is very important to him as a cleric and merchant.
He typically wears light armor and during battle tries to use support his companions or let his summoned creatures attack. Jangafzaar's family has deep roots in the Exchange faction of the Pathfinder Society.
Thus, the Kargar brothers Almaas, Jangafzaar, Toral and Sadaf are all members of the Pathfinder Society.
| GM Abraham |
The pathfinders feel confident that there are no traps. What would you like to do?
Uhvat Balanos
|
Sorry for the silence. Got swamped by work last few days. Welcome Jangafzaar!
Uhvat turns to nod at the dwarf but otherwise, the reticent oread says nothing else. He moves near to the front of the group, deciding to take the lead where possible. Again, he focuses within, examining the various items on display to determine if any are magical or psychic in any way.
Detect magic, detect psychic significance.
| GM Abraham |
Uhvat notes that the mace appears to be magical. He also recognizes that the room as a whole carries a psychic whiff of pride, while the broken staff in particular has the faintest hint of despair about it.
Firewarden Yanda
|
"Welcome, Jangy. do you mind if I call you that? Not sure I can even pronounce the name you just gave us. I say we ignore the junk and just move on to the next door."
Yanda heads over to the door opposite where they entered and waits to see if the others agree by joining her. While she waits she answers his question.
"Nothing much has happened really. We were in a room with a locked door, pulled a couple levers up which opened the door, then came in here."
Zenae WP
|
I thought it was just one lever we pulled. Red Up. The black lever didn't appear to do anything. Unless black had to be up for red to open the door. She frowns as she moves to stand behind Yanda. I just hit things, not my job to really figure things out
Anyway .... welcome aboard. I'm Zenae
Jangafzaar Kargar
|
Jang raises an eyebrow.
"Well, you can call me Jang' if you want to shorten my name. Then let us proceed! I am a cleric of Erastil! You surely all have communities that you love. This love will hopefully guide us to do everything to get back home in one piece!" he says with some sadness in his eyes.
It is obvious that his presence does not provide comfort. The negative atmosphere almost spills over.
Firewarden Yanda
|
"Well, I am quite sure I pulled the black lever up."
And I assumed it stayed up. Did it? Are both levers currently up?
Yanda gives the cleric a curious glance. Obviously a man with his own internal struggles. She just hopes they don't spill over and cause problems.
Black Sun
|
"You surely all have communities that you love. This love will hopefully guide us to do everything to get back home in one piece!"
"I do...?" Black Sun ponders this.
"Well...the nuns at the asylum were nice, but I think I wasn't supposed to go back. It would be boring there, now."
Jangafzaar Kargar
|
Jang is a little embarrassed at Black Sun.
"Ehh, well, ehh ... you ... you can see the Society as your community, right?" he says unsure of his own words.
| GM Abraham |
"Well, I am quite sure I pulled the black lever up."
And I assumed it stayed up. Did it? Are both levers currently up?
Yes, first you moved the Black to the Up position. Then you moved the Red to the Up position, at which point the wall turned and an exit from the room opened up. Both levers were in the Up position when you left the room. You'll have to go back to check to see if they still are :-)
| GM Abraham |
So, does anyone want to do anything in this room? As far as you can make out, this seems to be a place where someone is displaying various items. You've identified one of the items as being magical. Do you want to investigate the stuff further? Take anything? Move on to the next room? I'll move us forward once two people have indicated for a particular path.
Jangafzaar Kargar
|
Jang searches the room properly to see if there is anything like a secret door.
perception : 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
He then checks the magical item with detect magic.
spellcraft : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
If nothing can be found he agrees to move on.
| GM Abraham |
Jang identifies the magical weapon as a +1 mace.
Opening the door, the group sees a short corridor stretching ahead with a door to the right (and, easily spotted once they move down the corridor, another door around the corner on the left).
Uhvat Balanos
|
While Jangafzaar examines the mace (and presumably someone takes it), Uhvat instead turns to study the staff. Could be trick of light but did he look a tad melancholic? A brief moment later, he picks out the staff, stuffs it into his backpack and moves to take the lead as the group leaves.
He stops at the first door and listens through.
perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
Firewarden Yanda
|
Yanda is right behind the monk.
Not me. Not touching the items. I put Uhvat next to the first door, though since he took the staff we might have to move both of them back if it springs a trap.
| GM Abraham |
As Uhvat touches the staff, a bolt of electricity arcs forth, fortunately catching only him in its path!
Electrical: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1, 4) = 14 Reflex DC 20 for half
Sorry, there was indeed a trap but none of you made the DC. For the future, when you are searching please put your Perception check in a spoiler (and then don't look at the spoiler) which will reduce the inevitable metagame tendency to have some idea of 'how well' you searched.
Singed from the trap but otherwise no worse for the wear, Uhvat continues down the corridor and stops to listen at the first door. He hears nothing.
To save time: the door is locked.
Firewarden Yanda
|
Yanda pulls out her lockpics and goes to work, hoping for that satisfying *click*
disable device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
| GM Abraham |
Yanda does indeed manage to open the lock.
Rows of iron bars anchored in the floor and ceiling divide this room into three smaller cells. Two of the cells are empty, but a gaunt, black-haired man in the tattered robes of a mage lies on a simple straw pallet in the southern cell, seemingly unconscious.
Firewarden Yanda
|
heal check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 just to see if she can figure out what is up with him.
She also swigs a shield extract when they move on - start the counter for 6 minutes at that point. Not now, but I don't want to forget.
