So, Shabad has 40 minutes left on her spell duration. It looks like we've cleared the third floor.

Before we proceed to the fourth and final level, Damon needs to regain SP (10 minutes) and put on his new armor (less than a minute). I would like to swap two of Damon's armor upgrades to the new set of armor, but that would take 10 minutes each, and I feel that's cutting it a bit close.

How about we split it (sort of) in the middle. Damon takes 10 minutes to rest and 10 minutes to swap his filtered rebreather to the new armor. Shabad gets his old armor (with the handy jetpack and now-useless infrared sensors on temporary loan) and kindly casts instant upgrade on Damon to grant him temporary darkvision. This leaves us 20 minutes to clear the fourth level and kick Keon's butt before Shabad's spell dissipates.

Sounds good. The main advantage of using Damon's old armor is if it has a slot available to add her ghost armor upgrade. Otherwise, the protection is the same. Hopefully, we won't need any of this stuff, but Shabad expects something incorporeal when dealing with denizens of shadow and its probably good to have darvision as well.

It's no big deal if her spell runs out before we get finished, since she can cast it again and it was more insurance than anything.

'Course, considering there is an third book and its called Heart of the Night, we'll be at this a while yet before we get much of a break.

Last weekend was consumed with grading late assignments. Now my time is consumed with a new term with some new logistics. I'll post as soon as I can, but it may not be today. I'm teaching at night for the next five weeks, so most of my posts will come during the morning on M-Th.

Shabad might be interested in the white carbon armor and/or the white force field upgrade. It is bulkier than her present armor, so I'd need to review bulk totals and maybe make an adjustment. She cannot use the ringwear or the wrack devastation blade and she already has the same model of switchblade.

The elite semi-automatic pistol is a sweet small arm but Shabad already has one and probably can't take the extra bulk to carry this other one as a spare, but if Raine has room to carry it, it would be useful to keep in reserve.

I don't think it is possible to install Kaeon's accelerated datajack into Shabad, but if I'm wrong about that, let me know what it requires.

I'd say Damon, Stefani, and Recorva take the serums, since they are usually taking the most damage.

If Stefani wants the white carbon armor, it is a step up from what she's got, if she doesn't mind the extra bulk. Shabad has other armor options.

Once the armor investigation is complete, we need to discuss what to do with the remaining corporate slaves. If Shabad thinks they could be returned to something like normal, she'd be in favor of trying to communicate to them that their jobs are done and they can return to the twilight part of the planet for debriefing. But I suspect they may resist that and try to keep on working. If so, Shabad will reluctantly advocate more euthanasia.

Loot: four doses of sprayflesh, two doses of tier 2 analgesic, four mk 3 serums of healing, two serums of enhancement (scientist), and two serums of enhancement (sensate).

The sprayflesh and analgesic medicinals can go in Shabad's medkit. Everyone who fights on the front line (not Shabad) should take one of the serums of healing.

Recorva and Shabad have the most ranks in the skills that get boosted by the serums of enhancement, so she suggests Recorva takes one each and Shabad keeps the other two.

I have a rules interpretation question.

I get a new Magic Hack and am considering Extend Runtime, which offers the possibility of making certain spells have a duration of 24 hours. The words I'm not sure of are: "You hack a spell’s runtime, dramatically increasing its duration. Whenever you cast a spell with a duration of 10 minutes/day or longer and target only yourself, you can either spend 1 Resolve Point or cast the spell using a higher level spell slot to increase its duration to 24 hours (D)."

Spells usually have a duration per caster level, not per day. So was that a mistake that should have been 10 minutes per level or did it mean from 10 minutes up to 1 day? There are a number of spells that this could help with, such as Lesser Resistant Armor, Instant Upgrade, Junk Sword, Detect Radiation, Keen Senses, and Telepathic Message, plus she gets two new spells and may swap out another spell.

She rarely uses her resolve points and has lots, so this could be very cost effective.


I think it is supposed to read 10 minutes/level. Let's go with that.

Well, if Stefani is going for the White Carbon, then Damon will go for the experimental graphene suit (really banking on your curse-breaking skills, Doc).

The mind mail is free to a good home! So is the jetpack, but for some reason I don't think Recorva cares about that too much.

The jetpack is available if anyone wants it. While Shabad found it useful in the last fight, its bulk is a problem and she doesn't really need it, since she can cast a spell and fly about as well.

With Shabad's new Magic Hack, Extend Runtime, she can cast a number of helpful spells with duration of 24 hours, including giving armor DR or energy resistance, magically created augmentations (anything up to 11th level), and Keen senses (+2 to perception).

She also now can cast a few mystic spells, including Mystic Cure, so she can heal hp with magic now as well as with medicine.

Might have been part of a "Derecho" storm system that started near Chicago and went through Indiana and Ohio. They're pretty rare but a similar one made it all the way to our area in Virginia and DC a few years ago. Hurricane force winds that blow out ahead of a line of thunderstorms.

I think we've been claiming items as we find them. Shabad has some credsticks which we can divide. They are 290 and 500 for a total of 790. Divided 4 ways, that comes to 197.5. Shabad also picked up that laser microphone we found, which can be part of the group treasure.

Shabad hopes to sell some of her unnecessary items to amass up to 5000 in UPBs to use as a spell component.

We divvied the armor above, so if you have spare armor to contribute to the group, that would become group treasure or since we all picked up something useful, except Shabad, you can sell your old armor for what it's worth.

We've found a bunch of weapons that no one claimed. If there is carrying capacity available to haul all those with us, that might need to be tallied by going back through the posts. Shabad is close to her limit on carrying capacity so she wouldn't be able to carry more than a few light bulk items.

One of Shabad's new spells, Reanimate Construct, requires the following (taken from the parallel spell of Animate Dead):

Creating undead Reanimating Construct requires special materials worth 1,000 credits × the total CR of the undead created construct reanimated; these materials are consumed as part of casting the spell.

So if I'm interpreting this correctly, Shabad will need 5000 credits worth of something to get consumed when the spell is cast, if she wants to be able to reanimate a 5 CR construct, since Animate Dead says the CR limit of controlled undead is 1/2 caster level.

I'm assuming she can use UPBs for this purpose, so if the locals can scrape it together and want to buy the stuff Shabad has to sell, she'll conduct the transactions. She'll still be a little short of 5000, so if other PCs have anything they don't need that they can spare for the effort, it would be appreciated.

It looks like we're selling the superior iridishell, and Doc's share of that would be 1,056.

If that is the case, Shabad will hold onto the Aura Goggles. She'll still have in excess of 5000 UPBs for the spell cost.

Those will have bulk 5, so if there is anyone who has some extra carrying capacity to haul some of these around, Shabad will appreciate it. If she gets to use the spell, she can collect the UPBs from those who are carrying them, as this is not a spell she'll likely cast during combat.

I'm just hoping that we come across something like those security 'bots so she can animate it and keep it as a pet. So if we are fighting a construct, try not to completely obliterate it with your big guns and solar blasts. :)

The section on UPBs says they can be configured into almost anything, but it doesn't describe what game mechanics are involved in this. Is that listed somewhere else, like under a skill or spell?


I think it's just assumed you do the configuring as part of crafting or the like.
