Hey GM, I don't believe I stowed away my CLW wand, so I would still be holding it. But if you think it be appropriate that It was stowed away let me know, my standard action then would be to retrieve it.
Seeing Chandrabha badly injured, Brayne utilizes his wand to heal her. "Let magic heal your soul!"
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

GM Bret |

Chandrabha misses.
The demon uses magic again. It then moves to one side of the pit, pushes off that side to take a running jump up on the cleric’s side of the pit. It seems to be moving faster than it was before.
Acrobatics to jump: 1d20 + 18 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 18 + 12 = 31
Faster, but not enough to leap up and catch the edge!
Bolded may act.
Round 4:
Bless active
Blue Goat 36 damage, at bottom of pit, protection from good, expeditious retreat
Wolfgang 0 damage
Garduk 4 damage -1 Con -1 Dex
Brayne 0 damage -1 con -4
Round 5:
Chandrabha 29 damage -3 Dex
Sha’ar 9 damage
Kulga 10 damage Guidance

Carefully Kulga sights in and looses, stepping right up to the edge to get a cleaner shot.
Longbow (Bless, Studied): 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 9 + 1 + 2 = 21
Cold Iron Piercing: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 = 14
Reflex: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 12 + 2 = 22

GM Bret |

Kulga moves up and fires at the goat thing.
She hits and kills it.
Exceptional Success
Garduk dismisses the pit trap and the dwarven acolytes come forward thanking you. As you look them over, you realize these were the tortured faces you had seen in the flames of the haunt.
They offer to use what few spells they have to heal your wounds,
Each casts their cure spell once.
I will allow you to decide how they are distributed.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

GM Bret |

After taking care of any injuries, you move on.
Same map as Slide 4
This scene shows remarkably little change. The toad-like idol no longer has cracks in its form, though it's no less loathsome. The indentation before it is filled with green-tinged liquid, and beneath the statue's probing tentacles rests a small book bound in moldy leather.

Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Garduk casts Mage Armor on himself and on Brayne with his wand. If I'm counting correctly, I believe there is one more hour to go on the remaining temporary hit points from False Life. then activates Chandrabha's wand of Infernal Healing for her as many times as necessary to get her and Sha'ar back to full in combination with one or two of the CLW spells, which is going to take 3 or 4 charges. (Kulga, you're the only other person who's wounded - how do you want to divide them up?)
"Looks like this is just water and shredded plants. Should be harmless."
Garduk starts to approach closer to reach for the book, then remembers Kulga and Brayne being choked by invisible tentacles. "But still..." He casts Detect Magic, just to be sure.

![]() |

Kulga gives the statue a thorough inspection as well, then if she and Garduk are both satisfied, reaches for the book.
Perception (Stonecunning): 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 11 + 2 = 21

GM Bret |

Garduk detects something magical surrounding the book under one of its tentacles. Concentrating on it, he figures out it is similar to a Force Wall in a dome shape around the area where the book is. There is also some sort of strange aura on the book itself.
Around the same time Kulga finds that something invisible is stopping her hand from touching the area around the book. There doesn’t appear to be anything unusual about the stonework other than the subject that the artist chose to portray.
Obvious ways to deal with the force wall around the book would be to cast Dispel Magic on it or to carefully break it. Breaking it carries the danger of harming the book as you break through the protective barrier.
Looking around, you also find dwarven runes at the base of the statue.

“Know now that the treatise isn't meant to be touched by hands that have seen the sun.” Kulga reads the runes aloud.
"Hmmp. Don't see how that gets us through the wall. Can someone dispel this?"

![]() |

Garduk shakes his head sheepishly. "I, er, I haven't learned that spell yet." He looks doubtful. "Can you break the force wall? Carefully?"
"Orrrrr," thinking furiously, he pulls It Crawls from Darkness out of his haversack, "is this supposed to mean something?"

![]() |

No dispel means here. But a scroll I will definitely be picking up for our next adventure!
With regards to healing rounds, since Brayne has his wand out, he will gladly assist anyone who request for assistance
Brayne looks over Garduk and Kulga, "I have not learnt that spell either, but perhaps if we can lift it without using our hands?" Brayne attempts to lift the book using mage hand to see if that is possible.
If it's not, he would suggest to just break the force shield what happens, in the name of science and magic!

![]() |

Garduk holds up a hand. "Wait, one other idea! I could summon an earth elemental. It would never have seen the sun, and maybe it could burrow up from underneath. Do you think that would work?"
It would be a wasted resource unless we get into an encounter quickly, but it might work. Would a linguistics check give us any better insight into the meaning of the runes' warning?

"Hells. We're not getting the barrier down gently anyways."

"Two fingers up means a shadow thing's choking me."
Kulga reaches over to grab the book.

![]() |

"This is maddening! The book is just sitting there!" Garduk growls in annoyance. "It's an illusion, obviously. But what kind? Is it just displaced? Or is it an entirely illusory object and there isn't any book at all? Or maybe it isn't an illusion, but the on the ethereal plane rather than our own? Gah!"
In frustration, Garduk kicks at the book - or what he sees as the book.

![]() |

Is Detect Magic still running? If not, Garduk casts it again.
Garduk glares at the book, trying to identify its magical aura.

![]() |

"Hmmp. Neither hand nor foot." Kulga reverses her grip on her axe and pokes the book with the haft.

![]() |

"So it is really there, at least. Can you move it off that spot?"
Hmmm. Does Garduk still have his unseen servant?

GM Bret |

Hmmm. Does Garduk still have his unseen servant?
At your level it lasts for five hours. It is certainly still active.

![]() |

It was from a scroll - caster level 1. I think it's still up, though.
Without taking his eyes off of the book, Garduk points to it and says to his unseen servant, "Pick up that book and bring it to me."

![]() |

"Well put it in a sack or something."

![]() |

Garduk opens his handy haversack. "Drop it in here. I'll -- I mean, we'll -- examine it later."

![]() |

"Running away" Wolfgang comments appearing more concerned than usual "Something is coming. Something very bad I geuss... Be ready"
Perception check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24

![]() |

The book moves over and is placed in the sack.
Extraordinary Success, although I’m not sure how anyone will get it out of the haversack...
Fine dwarven chopsticks of course :-)

![]() |

Garduk casts Shield on himself from his wand (1 minute duration). "Everybody has been healed that needed healing, right? I've got a feeling we may be about to return home."

GM Bret |

You never said, so I’m assuming this healing went to Kulga and then Sha’ar. Chandrabha used three Infernal healing charges from her wand.
Wolfgang notices some sort of creatures climbing down the walls to the north of the party. They look hungry.
