The World's Most Interesting GM |

This is the discussion thread for Night March of Kalkamedes. We talk about stuff here. But before we do, if everyone who is interested in playing could please provide me with the following info:
Player Name
Character Name
PFS #
Faction
Day Job Roll (if any)
Level Progression Speed (slow or standard)
Initiative Modifier
Perception Modifier
Sense Motive Modifier
... And then ghost dot (post some random text with your character and then delete the post) in on the Gameplay thread with the character you are playing so that this game shows up on your campaign page (and so you don't wake the little sleeping angel).
A few quick notes This is a Classic/Standard-mode game, not CORE. It is a Tier 1-5 game, so your character must between 1st and 5th level to play.
I am not a pushy GM, but I would like to finish on time. I hate botting people. I'll do it at need, but I have enough NPCs to play as it is. In general, I don't put your character in front of the next door they have to kick down, and I certainly don't kick it down for them. That's called: writing a novel. We're here to game. Your character can do as they like (or not) within the game world. You guys are the heroes here, you move the story. I'm just the guide.
You probably want to bring a character who is adaptable and outdoorsy unless of course you like comedy, in which case the sky's the limit.
Start date: Mondayish.
Stay thirsty my friends.

I have GM'd this scenario before, but never played it.

Hello! I am not sure if this is a recruiting page or this is just asking for already chosen players’ details!? ;-)
"Oh this is a recruitment alright. It is a super secret recruitment for philosopher aesthetics only. Only the enlightened have the feats necessary to grapple with (or pummel) the great problems of our day. Hey! You girl! What are you doing here? This isn't wet toga night! What are you doing here? Well, just because you are 6'3" and have a trained, attack badger I'll let you stay--this time, but you'll have to come up with an aphorism or two that you can sell for coin. And try to look a bit more platonic will you."
Anyone between levels 1 and 5 is welcome to join, regardless of what Archimeles says.

![]() |

Ha ha! Thanks! ;-)

An elderly man, perhaps more aged than Archimeles even, leans against a nearby wall. He is wrapped in winter cloaks and resting on a scabbarded blade, seemingly asleep. He opens one eye and regards the other elder:
"Huh? Wuzzat? Enlightenedisms is it? How's this:? Ahem: 'The Sleeping Sword bisects the early worm.'"

Almaas is a young Dwarf from an Osiriani merchant family that always felt that community, tradition and fairness are the values that should be inherently present in any civilisation. Thus, he embraces the lessons of Erastil and tries to use his family fortune to bring prosperity through fair trade.
People don’t really like Almaas as his faith and attitude leads him to reprimand the actions of others a little too bluntly. Almaas can be a stoic negotiator but he has an empathic approach. He is perceptive and understands people's motives which is very important to him as a merchant and a pillar of his community.
He typically wears no armor and during battle usually tries to use his bow to attack but also uses his legs and fists if necessary.
* * * RP example: * * *
Almaas raises an eyebrow.
"I will forgive any disrespect towards Erastil like a father who patiently waits for his children to grow up. But we need to stick together like family and I hope that although we might have different views we will face these opponents and their potential schemes as one team! Can I trust you to COOPERATE? Can I trust you to stop your juvenile behaviour?" Almaas asks expectantly.

Sense Motive Modifier: +3
GM, I have played this before, and will be burning a replay to do so again. If you would rather take someone who has not played before, I will bow out.

Staring hard at Archimeles, Kala imagines slowly stepping up right into his face. Staring down at him, she would witheringly say... a good comeback about togas being for weak people, or something like that. Never mind. As her eyes turn away dismissively, she switches to fantasizing about teaching Stinky to pee on a target on command. Now, that would be funny.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

I don't mind 'repeat offenders.' ;) Just think of this as another Confirmation. People replay that all the time.
That, and I'm being slightly obtuse in my recruiting anyway in recruiting anyhow (didn't actually post in the recruiting thread, it's a weekend, in the middle of the night, middle of the holidays, actually spelled out numbers, etc...). It's like I don't want players!
So currently we are at 4 players--enough to begin Monday. With the current cast we are looking to be low-tier, with a rogue, a hunter and 2 monks. If that sounds amiable we'll start in around 16ish hours, so make any changes now and if you can please organize yourselves in a rough/default...

The World's Most Interesting GM |

MARCHING ORDER
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

"Oh my look at this group! Two monks, a rogue and a hunter, sounds like you could use a secretary. I think, I just barely have an opening and could squeeze you in. Has everyone made sure they are up-to-date on their paperwork? I hate having to track down adresses for paychecks! I can help you with the forms if you so wish. Here's an example of mine:"
Do you still hae an opening? I'd be interested in joining in if you do! I need to get another chronicle up and then add in a GM chronicle (should be finished within the next 12 hours) but her stats are up-to-date.
Player Name: Sedoriku
Character Name: Angela Isafira
PFS #: 108507-04
Faction: Dark Achives
Day Job Roll (if any): Profession (Secretary): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Level Progression Speed (slow or standard): Standard

Level Progression Speed(standard)
Initiative Modifier:+5
Perception Modifier:+6
Sense Motive Modifier:+5
I'm not sure if you all are still looking for another, but Lynn Kuro is here to soothe the woes that ill those without musical or literary accompaniment.
My post times are during breaks at work and afterwards. Around 4pm, 7pm, and 10pm (MST)

"Rhinshin be close to front...good trap finder..." I will take the #2 spot, so my trap spotter ability has a chance to work before the tank falls in a hole...
Before starting out, Rhinshin will acquire a new masterwork dagger. As well as upgrade his masterwork studded leather to a +1 studded leather.

That sounds fine.

You and Lynn make 6 players.
Now if no one changes levels or to characters with levels different than what I'm seeing you all average out to level 2.5 and will be playing low-(level 1-2)-tier, with Lynn and the two monks receiving out-of-tier rewards for their troubles.
If that's okay, then I'll have things ready to go throughout tomorrow (starting in about 12ish hours for me). If not feel free to discuss among yourselves (and with me) what you would like to do and then fill out the more-or-less usual marching order that you would like to use (see above).
Obviously, this game will run through RetroCon (which starts in January) so double check to make sure you are free and remember that we might see a slow down around the major holidays that are in the offing.
Good night. ;)

![]() |

Perfect. ;-)
GM, I think the APL is rather (17/6) -> 3 rounded up.
So we could also play high tier with 4 player adjustment, right?
Almaas can be anywhere in the marching order so just fill a spot that is vacant after all have chosen their spots.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

By Jove you are right man!
{Flips page from 1d2 advanced giant docile bunnies, to the 4-5 tier encounter--1d4 young balors with a 'tude.}

![]() |

Yay, I haven't played Angela in too long!
For marching order, Anglea can fill anywhere not immediately at the front. Probably place number 4 or 5. Angela is also a consumate supporter, more than happy to make sure things are organized, lend a hand where needed and even point out weak points in combat. She also has a deep love of effeciency.
I'm okay with playing up (especially with a four player adjustment), and seeing as everyone here is level 2 or above, we should have some more flexibility and the equipment to handle most challenges of a near appropriate level.

![]() |

As long as Kala survives, I'm fine with a challenge. She has two potions of Cure Light Wounds in addition to her spells, but not much gold left as she spent most of it on a Cloak of Resistance after the last mission.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

As long as Kala survives, I'm fine with a challenge.
Boy, I wish I could guarantee that, but (obviously) I can't.
So... marching order? More specifically folks who have had the time to post after I asked about it the second time, but didn't have a suggestion.
Currently the front-line looks likely to be older robed men.

![]() |

Kala can take the lead if no one else wants it. Stinky will range along with her.

![]() |

No, Almaas can take the front. More HP.

![]() |

I can take 3rd spot in marching order, Lynn's got about 20ish charges left on her CLW wand, not a whole lot of damage though she relies on her pistol and limited selection of spells(yay bard limitations XD). High dex does mean she can make significant use of any ranged weapon though.

![]() |

This will be a challenge, playing up!
If we play intelligently though we ought to do OK. We don't have high damage output, so creative solutions to problems and avoiding fights where possible are my recommendations.
Sleeping Sword is a dhampir, so he's responsible for his own healing. He's melee, so should go at or near the front. This will be much less worrying if our bard can make the Wand of Mage Armour work :)

![]() |

In that case, Kala will be flexible about placement.
If it comes to a fight, she and Stinky usually like to flank their opponents, but perhaps this time around she'll make more use of her bow.

![]() |

Mage armor isn't on the bard spell list buuut, with a +7 UMD i should be able to get just about any wand in working order.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Sooo...
MARCHING ORDER
1. Almaas
2. Rhinshin
3. Lynn
4.
5. Angela
6.
Sleeping (near front), Kala/Stinky (flexible)
So maybe...
MARCHING ORDER
1. Sleeping
2. Almaas
3. Rhinshin
4. Lynn
5. Kala/Stinky
6. Angela

![]() |

Almaas has the feat point blank master with his longbow so he can also be in the front.
POINT BLANK MASTER: You do not provoke attacks of opportunity when firing [a longbow] while threatened.
So it is your choice Sleeping Sword where you want to be.
If Almaas is behind Sleeping Sword that is fine too as he has precise shot as well as the deadeye bowman trait so melee and cover penalties are not an issue.

![]() |

I propose moving to spot #3, and almaas and rhinshin moving up the order one place. Rhinshin wants to br in spot #2 for trapspotter.

![]() |

Ok!
MARCHING ORDER
1. Almaas
2. Rhinshin
3. Sleeping
4. Lynn
5. Kala/Stinky
6. Angela

![]() |

That order works just fine for me, assuming nothing scary sneaks up on us!

GM, I would be very interested to know which Wayfinder that is. I have the same issue with one of my investigators. :-(

Your CSI black light.
WAYFINDER ENHANCEMENTS
For members of the Pathfinder Society, a wayfinder is more than a compass or receptacle for an ioun stone. These ubiquitous minor magic items are status symbols and badges of honor among Pathfinders, and elaborate or exotic versions are growing in popularity among those who wish to stand out from their peers. To obtain the following wayfinder enhancements, a Pathfinder must already own a wayfinder.
Discerning (5 PP): This wayfinder functions as normal, except the user can cast detect magic at will in place of light.[and (if you want to keep light)...]
Inherited (3 PP): A mentor or older relative who was a Pathfinder passed this wayfinder down to you, and it keeps a minor enchantment from its previous owner. When purchasing a wayfinder enhancement that would normally replace the wayfinder’s ability to cast light with the ability to cast a different spell, the wayfinder retains the ability to cast light, allowing it to cast two different 0-level spells.
I've been looking to pick one up for one of my fighters, but I keep forgetting were I've seen it. ;)

An Inherited Discerning Wayfinder would be 8PP then (on top of the 250gp for the ordinary device).
My alchemist uses a Discerning Wayfinder. Very handy.

![]() |

Yep. My investigator is getting one next level, once she can use spellcraft.
@Sleeping sword, Yeah, I read it too fast the first time around. So 8pp plus the original cost. I am just going to burn an additional 1 PP to save me some gold.

Oh herp derp, just reread the post at the top cause i was gonna ask when this game planned to start and realized, Hey it started on mondayish.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

No worries. For some Mondayish is a holiday.

![]() |

Almaas can take all items that are not individually claimed and carry them.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Lynn, you seem to be signed up for a RetroCon event that starts in about 4 weeks.

![]() |

Almaas too but I can play another character in the same tier.

![]() |

List of Kalkamedes' gear for reference:
magic cloak - worn by Kalkamedes
broken mithril sword - carried by Almaas?
potion of hide from undead in mithril caltrop/improvised dagger - carried by Almaas
potion of clw - carried by Almaas
bracers - worn by Sleeping Sword
elixir of swimming - carried by Almaas

![]() |

If you need anything please just assume Almaas gives it to you immediately or just claim it now. He needs none of those items.

![]() |

I'm dipping out of that retrocon game actually, i didn't even realize i'd been selected, since the last i'd heard the spot was filled.

![]() |

Gear list looks good! Angela shouldn't need any of that, and some I think we'd best keep the elixir of swimming and potion of hide from undead in reserve for Kalkamedes just in case.
Also I just remembered that Angela's pack wieghs her down too much to move at full speed, she'd have to double move every round jsut to keep pace. Anyone have enough carying cappacity to take a 28 lb. investigator's kit? Otherwise I probably am going to have to update her actions from last round.
