"-26" is the total absolute value (if you remember your maths) of damage Stinky has taken, not his current total. Lynn for instance isn't at -17, but has taken 17 points of damage. That said it might smell like something is dead.

![]() |

if you are in range for a double move Kala, you may be able to charge?

![]() |

@TWMIGM: Ah. Got it. Thanks.
@Sleeping: She could, but the -2 AC scares me. The only way for Illvater to miss would be to roll a natural one.

![]() |

Angela gives a cry as Kala rushes the dragon. "Don't be an idiot and sacrifice yourself! Stinky is barely alive, don't go and join him!"
With a frustrated grumble she digs out her crossbow and loads a bolt, cursing herself for not setting up the bow before hand.
Two move actions to draw and load.

![]() |

The three Lynns spun and deposited Angela and their backpack onto the ground just beside the trio before sliding behind Stinky, close to the pillar. The three lurched down and grabbed Stinky by the stubby tail, pulling him ever closer only to scoop him up and onto their flickering shoulder with a spin. "I've go' Stinky. Be warned all ye who trifle with the daughter o' th' sea for she will see to the demise of thee!"
As if to illustrate her point she fired at the decomposing dragon as she finished her pirouette wolverine in tow.
attack(touch): 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 1 = 17
damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 = 6
"Sleeping sword we could use another one of your magic slaps against this thing, it's starting to get lively again!"
I forgot to add the bonus of masterwork damage to the dragon last time i fired so it needs 1 more damage on it from earlier *facepalm*
Free(drop pack in adjacent space), free 5ft to the square behind stinky, free to maintain bardic performance, move pick-stinky up(I'm within 10ft so that'll provoke due to the ruling on items) standard to shoot. Man i hope it hits an image

With his last blow Sleeping cleaves the circle open to a wave of magical energy. While under a hail of missile fire Illvater falls to the ground not to rise again.

Almaas shouts out loud. "We did it!! We defeated this undead abomination!" and he starts clapping.

Sulianna |

Almost....
Sulianna reaches up from the floor for Sleeping Sword. "Too weak. You will have to be the one."
A nimbus of gold and silver light wraps the monk in a warm halo.
Sleeping is infused with the ability (and knowledge) to cast banishment (CL 13) once.

Koth’Vaul Revealed! |

Almaas shouts out loud. "We did it!! We defeated this undead abomination!" and he starts clapping.
The demon roars shaking the entire cavern!
"RRRAAAH!!"
intimidate v Almaas (again, were he to come out from behind the stone column): 1d20 + 22 + 4 - 5 ⇒ (9) + 22 + 4 - 5 = 30 ;)
"Well played.... But there is still time. Time for you to gain something from this little exercise. My kind have the ability to grant mortals their heart's desire. Free me, and I will bestow this boon upon you."

![]() |

"Me? M-me? I am not what you think I am. I am unworthy."
Sleeping Sword stands in awe as the angel's light and power envelops him.
"I understand. I will do this. Please see to our friend: he led us here."
The old monk indicates Kalkamedes, then turns and runs to face the demon Koth'Vaul. When he turns the corner and comes within range he raises his sword and addresses the fiend:
"I am but one old and decrepit man. But I have faith in the light of Heaven. Under the Empress's watchful gaze I shall not falter. With the strength granted to me, I banish you from this world Koth'Vaul! Be gone and trouble the mortal plane no more!"
Sleeping Sword speaks the holy words that come to his lips without thought. The nimbus of light coruscates and coalesces around the raised sword, and the old man points the blade at the fiend and completes the spell..
I'm guessing this is two rounds of actions if it matters. Can someone stabilise Stinky?

![]() |

As soon as Illvater falls, Kala rushes over to Stinky and casts her last 1st level spell.
"Come on Stinky! Please be okay!"
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
"Oh, thank Desna! I thought I'd lost you!" Kala pulls Stinky off Angela's shoulder, hugging him like he was a child. A single tear trickles down her cheek. She then turns, hearing Sleeping Sword speaking clearly to the demon. Walking cautiously to a spot where she can see, Kala gently sets Stinky down as she watches Sleeping Sword complete the banishment spell.

![]() |

As he comes to, Stinky licks Kala's face as he submits to her embrace. His whole body hurts, and her hug is a little too tight for his liking. But it's too much effort to squirm away just now. He's grateful to just rest for a moment. Once she sets him down, he plumps onto his belly and watches the demon with wary, fatigued, pained eyes.

![]() |

Almaas feels the evil presence and is really in awe and clearly shaken.
He takes a couple of steps back from the fiend.

Koth’Vaul |

It might.
"But surely there must be something you desire." says the once more pathetic-looking gnome.

Lynn deposits stinky into Kala's arms, though she more so had him ripped from her own as a mother would to her mewling babe where it in someone elses hands. The thought made Lynn smile, Kala cared for the wolverine as if it were her child and dearest companion, the two must have quite the bond. From the corner of her eye she saw Sleeping sword double marching towards where the demon stood captive and pulled her wand free handing it to Kala, "Tadpole with a slight flick like this." She said as she demonstrated on herself, the other two duplicates of herself disappearing with a crunch, like glass being fractured.
clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
"Take care of everyone as they need."
second round(though we don't seem to be in combat really)
Lynn carefully put her still warm gun carefully in her belt-sash and started over towards Sleeping sword only to see the gnome having returned to where the glabrezu once stood. Her eyes trailed down to her own arm, the bleeding having stopped, had lost it's own glamour as had the rest of her form.
She now strode up to Sleeping sword as he gave the demon a sort of final rites in her own true form. An orange, mostly stained in blood, sweat, and mud kitsune with four tails trailing behind her, low to the ground and swaying with her stride. She stood next to her companion heroically as he cast his spell.
"The day is won, we will buy into your lies no longer. <celestial: We vanquished your foul creation, now you shall be unraveled.>"

Rhishin looks over the heap of bone which used to be. He gives a whistle. "Can't believe we made it through the attack." He points his thumb over to the caged thing."What do we do with him?"

The World's Most Interesting GM |

It's wheedling promises falling on deaf ears Sleeping Sword banishes the demon back to the endless planes of the Abyss. As the power leaves him the nimbus of the divine fades and he is once again himself--a man.

Sulianna |

"Well done, Sleeping Sword." says the azata. She is standing now, a statuesque beauty nearly 7-feet-tall. Her wounds rapidly healing thanks to her own magics. The aura that had so recently swathed Sleeping Sword now illuminating her. "I am Sulianna. And I owe you a great debt. I orginally came to this place to make sure that Koth did not escape on to your plane. The Thassilonian magics that had kept him imprisoned here for over 10,000 years were finally failing. It would have only been a few short weeks before he would have freed himself. I came to end the brute but did not count on his undead servitor. Koth distracted me long enough for the creature to blindside me. It was only by crawling into the circle that I was able to escape. There is something in the design that hedges out the undead. But of course by entering the circle I had trapped myself and was too weakened to move. It was only in my dreams that I had any freedom and it was in them that I met your friend, Kalkamedes. He had been exploring the lands around the Black Edifice--this laboratory and prison created by servants of the Rune Lord of Sloth for the summoning and subjugation of beings from beyond like Koth'Vaul. No doubt they used him for his ability to grant their wishes. I reached out to Kalkamedes, but the bond was too tenuous yet something within him brought him back apparently in his sleep."

![]() |

Almaas steps forward to the Azata.
”We are glad that we could support you ... but the fiend is so intimidating. How can you handle it? And what can you do to awaken our friend K here?“
Almaas then looks into his backpack to find out where the voice was coming from ...

![]() |

The azata's magic spent, Sleeping Sword sways from side to side and almost collapses...
"zzzzz.....huh?"
The briefest of snoozes seems to restore him. He sheathes his sword and offers a silent prayer of thanks to Shizuru, his divine inspiration.
"Sulianna, do you know of my order? Though it has existed for less than the aeon that you have been trapped here, you chose to place faith in me. And your call to Kalkamedes has given him a combat style not unlike that taught in the monastery, albeit without any evidence of Shizuru's Technique.
"Faith, Brother Almaas, is how one withstands terror and evil."
And the Hunger.

Kala will make the rounds, using Lynn's wand on whoever needs it.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Rhinshin
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Kala
She grimaces in embarrassment at the number of charges she's using up. "Gaah! Sorry. I'm not very good at this."
Anyone else? If not, she'll hand the wand back to Lynn.

Sulianna |

Kala will make the rounds, using Lynn's wand on whoever needs it.
BELAY THAT HEALING! Ghaele can do that at will and this one does so for her saviors.
"Please Kala, daughter of Krokum, Allow me. You all have done so much for me I would feel useless if I could not do this much for you."
Full hp for everyone!
Almaas steps forward to the Azata.
”We are glad that we could support you ... but the fiend is so intimidating. How can you handle it? And what can you do to awaken our friend K here?“
Almaas then looks into his backpack to find out where the voice was coming from ...
"Kind Almaas. His mission complete now, I think when he awakes this morning Kalkamedes will be released from his nocturnal hunt."
The azata's magic spent, Sleeping Sword sways from side to side and almost collapses...
"zzzzz.....huh?"
The briefest of snoozes seems to restore him. He sheathes his sword and offers a silent prayer of thanks to Shizuru, his divine inspiration.
"Sulianna, do you know of my order?"
"Do not think unkindly of me, but I am afraid not. Yet I do know a good man when I see him."
"Though it has existed for less than the aeon that you have been trapped here, you chose to place faith in me. And your call to Kalkamedes has given him a combat style not unlike that taught in the monastery, albeit without any evidence of Shizuru's Technique."
She laughs. It is like the sound of church wedding bells.
"Sleeping Sword, I have only been trapped here a few weeks. Drawn here then by the emerging evil the failing magical circles revealed to me. Our enemy though languished here for whole ages of mortals, and from before the time of dwarves coming to reside upon the surface of this world. Trapped here by an Empire long gone to dust, before the Age of Darkness."
"Now let us leave this place for the fresh air outside and the coming of dawn."

"Good Sulianna, I am less than you give me credit for. I can but try to walk the path that Shizuru has laid out for me."
Sleeping Sword cannot benefit from her Cure spells, and firmly but politely refuses them.
"The Empress of Heaven will soon return. I will be there to greet her with you. But first, a short nap is in order.... zzzz....zzzz..."
The old man leans against his scabbarded blade, and snoozes.

![]() |

BELAY THAT HEALING! Ghaele can do that at will and this one does so for her saviors.
Healing belayed and wand not really used. Everyone just ignore Kala's awkwardly stammered thanks to Sulianna for healing her Stinky-poo.
With Stinky all healed, Kala kneels down to give him some good, hearty scratches. The joy on her face speaks volumes of her bond with this creature.

Lynn gave a look to Sleeping sword as he seemed to pass out in the middle of the once demon and undead dragon filled cave. She moved to retrieve her and Angela's gear. "Angela, please be a dear and strike this," she motioned to herself "From the record, i'm simply to drained at the moment, as well as I think we've been through enough life and near-death that it shouldn't bother you too much. Needless to say there are plenty who would likely have my head if they knew."
She strolled back over to Sleeping sword and gave him a brush on the cheek, "Come now sleeping sword, this is no place to honor your namesake." Continuing to stride past the others could watch as the aged man suddenly looked like he was in his mid-twenties. "Alright, everyone back up the lift nice n' slow."
That is unless he wants to.... oh actually there isn't a save listed so uh... dc14 will is what i'd say?

![]() |

That's a lovely touch Lynn - but Sleeping Sword is a nosferatu dhampir.
Ancient-born’s hatred for humanity is reflected in their appearance; from birth they are misshapen, sallow, and painfully thin. Abuse from their disgusted peers wears deep on ancient-born’s skin thanks to their physical weakness. Lacking the gift of immortality to offset the wasting effect of the curse they are born with, their chalky complexion scars easily and bruises like an overripe peach.
The compassionate kitsune attempted to alleviate Sleeping Sword's suffering by giving him a glimpse of his lost youth. Unbeknownst to Lynn, the curse of the dhampir was evident from birth. Her spell only rearranges Sleeping Sword's scars. The monk is still as ugly and decrepit as before, for even in his twenties he had the appearance of a disheveled ancient.
He opens his eyes a fraction. "Hmm? Wuzzat? Is it time to go now?"

Sulianna |

Almaas takes out the sword out of his backpack.
”Now it’s not talking anymore. Let’s hope it awakens with K when we return! Let’s us search this place properly and then go then!“
Taking 20 to search the place.
Thoroughly searching each nook and cranny of the estimated 330 squares that make up the floor and wall space requires approximately 5.5 hours at a rate of 1 minute per-square (20 move-equivalent actions can be done in the course of a minute [2 actions/round; 10 rounds/minute]. Almaas can take a free 5-foot step to get to the next square) and someone to help with the elevator when it's all done. Since time isn't really a thing for celestial beings we can assume that Sulianna re-materializes and flips the necessary switch. It's all fairly rough and we'll assume that the above includes time for a brunch break, and the extra time needed to get in and out of the fetid zombie-water to grab more air.
The broken sword remains stubbornly silent.
(Possibly) meanwhile....
The party emerges from the Black Edifice to the first rose-blush of dawn on the horizon. From their high vantage the world below is dark and filled with shadows. Behind them the enormous plateau structure built thousands of years ago is gone (or at least hidden) right down to its doorway now that the moon has set.
Outside the mountain air is brisk and fresh (even though the group is standing next to a magically dry-cleaned Stinky they have unconsciously all chosen to stand upwind). There is the hint of springtime.
Sulianna had taken her turn in guiding Kalkamedes out of the dungeon with nothing, but a hand set lightly upon his shoulder.
"And now it is time I take my leave. Goodbye my friends." She gives each party member a warm hug, and a small kiss on the cheek for Kalkamedes and then as the sunrise mounts the distant peaks she vanishes all at once leaving nothing but a faint trail of sparkling pixie dust that falls through the first warm sunbeams of the new day.

”I apologise for any bruises you might have. And here ... please take your belongings K!“

![]() |

Kala remarks with a chuckle: "Looks like the trip back ought to be a lot easier, now that we don't have to try to hold you back. I gotta admit, I was surprised you slept through all of that!"

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Sorry about the break yesterday. The site's scheduled maintenance fell in the middle of posting time.
Before we close out the game a few bits of business.
Since Almaas took part in the above-ground discussion and no one volunteered to help him search I will assume that the party decides to go back at some later date (either one of the next couple of days or next month during the full moon) when you have supplies. When you eventually do go back you find that a silver band on the horn of the long-pickled dragon is a in actuality a hat of disguise, and that beneath the filthy pool there is a +1 vicious greataxe.
Gamin the Misforged but magical short sword has mixed feelings about the party considering the way they treated his friend Kalkamedes (tying him up and letting him repeatedly wander into danger--even if it was just for a round or two), yet he is still grateful for ultimately saving the man. Ultimately the sword decides to go with the party to properly instruct them and the Society as a whole how to properly handle such situations. The sword does not refrain from extending his good advice to the party members' personal habits and many seeming faults. Gamin talks the whole way back to Kalkamedes' place, retelling the story from its point of view (which includes a lot of dwarf butt).

;-) Thanks so much!!

![]() |

Woo that's two pieces of sentient gear assuming we get access to him.

![]() |

Agreed. We'll come back later to fully check out the area. We've had a long, rough night and probably need some rest to be fully alert enough to discover all that needs to be discovered.
As the sword begins talking, Kala's guard immediately rises. She is distrustful of this animated object; it's unnatural. Having barely just begun to overcome her self-loathing and shame over using magic, this "Gamin the Misforged" is too much for her to trust. She keeps her distance, and spends most of the journey back either pointedly ignoring it or giving it suspicious glares from the corner of her eye.

Kalkamedes, arisen |

"Really? I wish I could have seen that. It's funny, I feel more awake than I have in my whole life. We shouldn't head straight back. It's so early we should bit of exploring first. What do you say? There's this keep on the borderlands just over that ridge." Kalkamedes says pointing to a distant peak. "With a good pace we could be there by nightfall. I know the cleric there. They've been having trouble with bandits and monsters."

![]() |

"What you call shameful, I call a skill of survival." He touches the wound the undead gave him. "The one time I left, I nearly got decapitated.

![]() |

Sleeping Sword smiles as the sun rises, and Shizuru's blessed rays caress him.
"Uh, if you would like to join me in a prayer of thanksgiving you would be most welcome. I shall need a little time now anyway, if you would be so gracious, for morning ritual."
Sleeping Sword offers his prayers, and if the gathered adventurers wish he includes them in his clerical service. He dresses his wound, and is ready to carry the fight to whatever despicable evil the Pathfinder Society should confront next.
"A talking sword, huh?" He looks at his sky-metal katana. "I prefer the sleeping kind..."

![]() |

Almaas smiles like a Father observing his children having fun which seems quite awkward.
”I was just contemplating on the greatness we achieved together. Imagine if this unbelievably evil creature would have escaped and would have started to gain influence in this world of ours! How much pain this would have cost communities and families. I am very happy that K that we were able to find this place and that your sleep at the end lead as here to be able to rescue a celestial being and prevent a fiend from gaining power!“

ARGH sorry for the lack of posts, couple of busy days and then I got knocked out by a cold.
As soon as she sees that the demon is successfully banished, Angela immediately takes out a note book and takes down details of the underground cave, the undead dragon, the trapped demon, and Sulianna's existence and explanation.
"Angela, please be a dear and strike this," she motioned to herself "From the record, i'm simply to drained at the moment, as well as I think we've been through enough life and near-death that it shouldn't bother you too much. Needless to say there are plenty who would likely have my head if they knew."
Anglea perks up from her notebook and surreptitiously strikes a few lines from the notebook and scribbles out something that might look like a sketch. "What ever could you mean? I'm not going to strike how brave your exploits were or how much help you were if that is what you are asking. I'm also not going to cut out the bits of how you carried my gear for me, though it's hard to admit I might have a fault there."
=====outside the cave=====
Angela listens to Gamin's side of the story, withholding commentary on some of his more inflammatory comments. She gives a smile at his comments about the state of Almaas's rear and Rhinshin's tactics.
When she finishes getting the info down she frowns over the pages for a second before smiling at Almaas's comments. "It was indeed a great deed. I for one am very grateful that we made it through with no casualties other than a little pride and some scars. Almaas, your arrows were just what we needed along with Sleeping's sword. Lynn you were able to keep the dragon distracted at many of the crucial moments and Rhinshin, you were able to show us just how deadly that dragon could be! Kala, you and Stinky's actions were critical as well. I just wish I could have been more help there."
She turns to Kalamedes, "You don't remember anything of what happened when you were sleeping, or what it was like while you were sleeping? It'd be great if you could give a chronicle of what that was like, as it might help in documenting future cases like this."

"Sir Kalkamedes, as pleasant as that sounds, we unlike yourself have been traveling and fighting through the night to safe-guard you on your journey. It would afford us well if we could at least take a nap and get a good meal before we head off on another wild adventure; and it would be wild if you are any indication." The kistune's face showed the obvious signs of near exhaustion even beyond the lack of darkening eye-lids, having expended a good portion of her magical force, and still feeling the subtle throbbing of the tender bones and flesh despite healing.
Anglea perks up from her notebook and surreptitiously strikes a few lines from the notebook and scribbles out something that might look like a sketch. "What ever could you mean? I had no idea about the Demon until it had sprung it's trap, even less knowing what it might be capable of. Just keep venturing out and you'll do well in the future." She hefted both of their packs more securely onto her shoulders, "Oh and maybe a more compact journal." She snickered a bit at that and then moved to stand ahead of everyone.
"Remember everyone, this is why we joined the society. Every scratch, bite, and scar; a tale to sing, a story to tell, a lesson to learn and teach to those who come after! If ever you require a place to sleep, a hammock to lounge in, or a sturdy set of planks beneath your feet. You'll find me aboard the Gilded Mast! As such you are all family aboard my vessel... er.. well soon to be mine... father hasn't exactly retired yet, but the offer stands strong. Now, -she cleared her throat- Onward to the next horizon of adventure! -she continued in a much lower tone- And a comfy feather filled bed."

”Brother sleeping sword, you are absolutely correct - if faith would be the source that we would all tap into to guide our hands our communities would prosper as we have prospered on this mission together!“

Kalkamedes, arisen |

She turns to Kalamedes, "You don't remember anything of what happened when you were sleeping, or what it was like while you were sleeping? It'd be great if you could give a chronicle of what that was like, as it might help in documenting future cases like this."
"Well, I remember dreaming that I was sitting in Master Marcos Farabellus's office, but that somehow I had forgotten to put my trousers on before arriving. Do you think that maybe that means something?"

With a snort, Kala laughs: "It means that you were kicking us in the face when we tried to dress you, so we gave up. You fought like a cornered wolverine!" She gives a affectionate smirk to Stinky as she strides forward.
