The Church of Triune approaches the Starfinder Society with a stunning discovery: a centuries old Society starship has been found in the Drift! The PCs must search the Lorespire Complex for all the information they can on this starship before heading into the Drift and uncovering what befell the lost vessel...

Greetings, spacefarers! I’m Jimbles, and I’ll be your GM for this adventure, if you so choose. I'm looking to open up a scenario specifically for those people interested in participating in the Starfinder Character Options Playtest.

I've chosen the scenario "The Beacon Code Dilemma" because it's (1) repeatable and (2) doesn't have the starship tag. I'm planning to run it at subtier 3-4 to accommodate playtest characters of 4th level.

Characters
You don't need to participate in the Playtest to play in this scenario, but I will be reserving at least three seats for players with playtest characters. If you are participating in the playtest, neat! You don't need to build a character before grabbing a seat.

Expectations
The playtest only lasts six weeks (ends January 16), but that doesn't mean we have six weeks to play! With the end of school terms and holidays all crammed into this time of year, it'll feel more like four weeks, so we need to play quickly! To better facilitate that, I will ask everyone at the table to post botting instructions before we begin and commit to posting 2x/day when feasible (with generous concessions for travel and the holidays and such, of course - we still want to have fun, after all).

Other Stuff
I'm tentatively holding two seats for players in another game of mine, so there are at least four seats open. I'll seat people in the order of posting.

I hope to launch the game before the end of the week, so if you're interested, drop a post and get to building that playtest character!

Ooh, sounds fun! I will be out of town Friday through Tuesday, but other than that should be able to post at least twice a day. I will work on a witchwarper tomorrow.

Any limitations for character creation. GM?

Nothing beyond those present in this blog post describing how to create a playtest character within the Society rules. Feel free to pepper this thread with any character creation questions you might have.

I'm definitely interested in trying out a playtest class.

Please note if I am in, my ability to post will be limited between 12/0 and 1/3.

I’m interested to play as one of the playtest classes as well! Haven’t had a chance to build anything quite yet, but I should have something together soon.

I’ve been trying to get back into Starfinder after a year of going AWOL and the playtest seems like a good enough excuse to play higher tier stuff with a “pregenerated” character, so count me in!

I’ll figure out what to do with a vanguard, because that looks fun!

Sovereign Court

Sounds interesting! I've been looking into the biohacker and vanguard. I can also play my android soldier at 3.

Hello, and thanks for the great idea!

I would happily playtest a level 4 dwarven Vanguard (follow of Pharasma).
I can post every day for sure (and follow the 2/day mostly).
I will put up botting info' (will update the profile today).

Hoping to join the game, of course, but much fun for all, GM & players, whatever the outcome!

That's not a problem; I anticipate most people (including myself) to be in the same boat. We'll focus on running a great game both before and after that.

Wow, that filled up fast! Both of the reserved seats will be taken, so that makes a full table already. We have:

Art Burd, playing a Vanguard.
Pithica42, playing ???
Brainiac, playing a Witchwarper.
GM Valen, playing ???
GM Mjolbeard, playing ???
KingTreyIII playing a Vangaurd.

GM Crunch and Van the Guard, thanks for posting your interest. If anyone pulls out before we start the game, I'll send you a PM; otherwise, I hope you find another opportunity to participate in the playtest!

For the rest of you, start workin' on those characters! I'll get the gameplay and discussion threads up sometime tomorrow; once all six characters are ready, we'll get this show on the space-road.

I am also interested in playtesting a new class with you. Biohacker sounds extremely interesting due to my love for alchemist and the vanguard as well! Not too interested in the warper.

I am totally free until the 3rd of January where my posting will become somewhat sporadic as I move to another country but I can fit in a post at least every other day at that point if we are not done.

Good game all!

But you are not really rushed at all, so long as you start before 1/16 you can finish whenever you want (see Thurston's answer in the questions under the announcement):

If a player is playing playtest character in a game that does not finish in a single day (such as playing an AP volume in multiple sessions, or playing a play by post game), and that game starts before 1/16 but finishes after 1/16, can the player continue playing the playtest character until the end of that game?
I *really* need to know the answer to this question. This will determine whether most of PBP can participate or not.

Hmm

As long as the character starts a game prior to the cut-off, I'm fine with it. HOWEVER, please don't abuse this into starting up 40 different PBP/long games with pregen characters to farm a bunch of credit using this system. Honestly, I'm ok with at most 1-3 games of this nature going past the cut-off, anything more starts to really look like abuse.

Sovereign Court

No problem, I'll be around. Either way, have fun with the playtest, all!

This is the alias for Art Burd's character, who will be a Shirren Vanguard, likely with the spacefarer theme. For others who are building Vanguards, I am currently planning on going the Momentum aspect, with the Constant Vigilance discipline at least.

I will have the full character up sometime late Tuesday morning or early afternoon.

Well...that’s awkward...I was going to go with a shirren vanguard too...well, it shouldn’t be too difficult to change it into a vesk. I’m going to go with the Extergy aspect and the Acceleration and Friendly Fire disciplines, so by all means AoE people: put me inside the radius—it doesn’t matter if I take damage, as long as I’m in the area!

I'd like to sign onto the waitlist as well just in case you have people dropping out. I won't apply with a playtest class but I have a mechanic, envoy, or soldier available to join should space free up!

Okay, repurposed a defunct alias. Aside from spell selection, Alorea, halfling wishwarp, is ready to go!

I'm still reading, but based on what I see so far, I think I'll go with a Bleachling Gnome Biohacker.

Holy crap these things are complicated....

If you are wanting to play a Shirren, go ahead! Don't let my race choice negatively affect your character concept. Multiple Shirren can actually work quite well together, with the two of us being front-line combat pals.

Nah, it’s fine. A vesk synergizes with the class slightly better than a Shirren—and besides, I’d like some form of diversity.

I think I have everything but gear done. Using the 4th level rules from the playtest guide, I think I have about 1845cr left to spend. My usual 'newb equipment' pack will likely get that down to about 700, and it should be pretty simple from there.

I'm in the middle of like 9 things here, though, and I really need to wrap my brain around how the injection class features work before I go buying a bunch of stuff I don't need. Plus I need to figure out a way to get this in a format readable by anyone other than me.

About when are we looking to start?

We're not under as much of a time crunch as I thought we were, but I would still like to start sooner rather than later, ideally Thursday or Friday.

Okay. I'm down to 27 credits. I think that's good. I'll just need to transfer from the json file I have to a readable character sheet, or maybe just build a profile for it.

Redid gear a little bit, got it down to 22cr. How does this look (hopefully you can read the online profile sheet this way)?
