Whoops! You're absolutely right: I didn't notice the -6 already in the damage roll itself

A10 - Chamber of Renewal wrote:
There is an air of solemnity in this austere room. A five foot wide, eight foot tall capsule sits on a ten-foot square platform in the center of the room. It is made of some kind of shiny metal, and dozens of wires, cables, and tubes sprout from its surface. Many of the wires run to a freestanding wheeled console nearby. A six-foot-tall door opens into the capsule. A small shrine covered in dried flowers and small wooden icons stands against the western wall. Doors lead north and south out of this room.

Life Science, DC 28:
You recognize this "chamber" to be some sort of advanced gene therapy device. Similar technology in the Pact Worlds has only been theorized.

It operates automatically when a creature steps inside and the door is closed. It scans the occupant to determine their malady and then bombards them with benign energies that alter their genes, enabling them to heal rapidly as per mystic cure III and remove affliction (CL 10th), although the chamber is not magical. The attached console can be used to adjust the treatment (or end it early) as necessary.

The capsule achieves this effect by replicating "perfect" kishalee biology, which is subtly different from kish physiology. You surmise that thousands of years of divergent evolution under harsh circumstances led to enough of a genomic difference to matter in this case. As a result, there is a chance that any Kish could be killed or horribly mutated as the chamber tries to remove its "foreign" DNA.

If someone makes the Life Science check, then anyone may roll Computers.

Computers, DC 28 (repair system; cannot Take 10):
With about an hour's worth of tinkering, you think you could reprogram the capsule to always work for kish (this requires no check).

Using a DNA sample from another creature, you could even attempt another Computers check to add that species to the capsule’s database (roll a Computers check for each additional species you wish to add, if any).

Take a look at John's profile, and specifically his appearance. Since the machine was programmed using John's DNA as the "perfect" android, I'll say you take on one physical aspect of his character, but you get to roll a d6 randomly to determine it ^_^

1 - You are now Male.
2 - Your skin takes on a hue of purple, like a Drow.
3 - Your skin is lightly scaled, like a Vesk.
4 - Your eyes are veined with red circuitry.
5 - Your endoskeleton is now an exoskeleton.
6 - Your skin takes on a hue of green, and you appear more muscular.

Describe yourself as you step out of the chamber!

Plotting a course of least resistance using Sigmus's AI, you skirt around an inland jungle and eventually make your way to the northwest "edge" of Istamak. From here you see a small chain of "islands" floating separate from the metropolis proper. Angry Kish faces have been drawn on several floating boulders, and the edge of the mainland harbors a small memorial of dried flowers and trinkets.

Fortunately, you can see what appears to be an office building on one of the larger islands, and a number of small, rocky islets lead up to it. Ropes and cables, presumably left by foolhardy or adventurous Kish youth, are already tied to anchors on each of these islets, while some dangle unattached (image from book, for perspective).

You guys have jetpacks. I'm handwaving this part. Most DCs are only 10 using climbing gear. But feel free to describe yourselves if you think it would be challenge ^_^

You eventually land on a floating mass with a dilapidated building occupying most of the stable ground.

Life Science, DC 19:
It looks to be a "writher" mold.

It's a colonial organism consisting of thousands of pale white fungal filaments that wave slowly back and forth, as if swaying in a light breeze. This mobile mold creeps its way through even the narrowest of crevices to infest a building and slowly digests all the organic matter within, whether discarded food, flesh, or wood. A writher mold leaves behind only ceramic, concrete, metal, plastic, and stone, making them less of a threat in large urban centers where structures are largely composed of such materials, but potentially devastating to less advanced settlements.

A single spore of a writher mold can lie dormant for as long as several centuries, whether as a passenger on a meteor or in a cavern deep below the ground. Under the right conditions, that spore can attach to a modicum of organic material, such as a stale piece of bread or the rotting corpse of a tiny animal, after which it quickly begins growing and multiplying. If it is not eradicated, a writher mold eventually becomes fully mobile, essentially becoming a writher "swarm", and can actually become aware enough to seek out new sources of nourishment.

I'm loving Pangea's... "transition". Lol

Everybody comfortable with where they're positioned? I'm... uhh... asking for a friend >.>

Sigmus moves very carefully to follow Zolvi and avoid the fungus.

I'm always late to the battle because of 20' speed, so I move Varnais to the doors.

Just as you are about to enter the building, a pair of strange winged creatures fly up from a roost underneath the island. Judging by the arrows lodged in their thick hides, they must be used to humanoid visitors. They swoop down and hungrily attack!

They are currently 20 feet up in the air (as in there is 20 feet between them and the ground, or 15 feet between them and you; yay 3D combat!)

Life Science, DC 18:
While its pinkish color isn’t what you’re used to, you definitely believe this is a Sharpwing, an aerial predator native to the thin atmosphere of Aballon. They are popular zoo specimens due to their tenacious ability to survive long hauls from location to location. How these ended up here in the Vast is anyone’s guess, but they appear to be a mated pair.

Speed 15 ft. fly 80 ft. (Ex, perfect)

Life Science, DC 23:
Due to their many eyes, they are unflankable. They have a peculiar immunity to nonlethal damage. As animals, Fortitude and Reflex are their best saving throws.

Life Science, DC 28:
Sharpwings make use of their Mobility and perfect flight to Spring Attack their prey. They rarely ever land, but when they do, they are arguably more of threat due to their natural ability to multiattack. Their claws can cause critical bleeding.

Life Science: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31.

"Huh. Sharpwings. I wonder how they got from Aballon to here?"

John then warns the others:

"Due to their many eyes, they can't be flanked. They also are highly mobile, can spring around when attacking, and their claws leave nasty wounds, that bleed."

EDITED.
