I can’t tell if recruitment is closed or not, so I’m tossing my hat in here until someone tells me to shove off :P

@gummy bear You are currently number 4 on the wait list...

The "game wiki" link on the Campaign Info page currently goes to a list of players/characters and the wait list.

Let me know if any of it is wrong ;)

Oh, I didn't know we were actually doing a waitlist. Mind if I squeeze in at number five?

Here is Nasir Al Issaf.

Like I said this is the first time I’ve done play by post, let me know if I’m missing something or if that looks good!

Thanks for letting my play, looking forward to it.

Have a happy turkey day for those that are celebrating!

Skelatox, of course!

Nita, that looks good to me. One of the joys of pbp is that you have time to ask questions and think things over. Read the thread I linked to in the first post, and pm me if you have questions you don’t want to post to the discussion thread.

I'm still trying to decide between two similar concepts. Let me see what you guys think:

Eldritch Archer: Probably spamming Snowball and similar cold spells, since from what little I know of the AP I'm guessing there'll be a lot of cold-vulnerable enemies as we progress.

Archery Ranger: Less magic-focused and more focused one just standard archery. I feel like at high levels it might be less effective, but at low levels, a hard bitten, gnoll-hating Ranger with FE Gnoll and the Gnoll Killer trait could really wreck shop early on.

The first may be a bit more mechanically tailored to the AP as a whole, but I kind of like the flavor of the second one better, at least starting out. Thoughts? Other ideas in that general vein? (GM, what availability of guns are we assuming? A firearm-based ranged character might also be fun, and Katapesh isn't far from Alkenstar.)

@Montgomery did you have a date in mind when you would like to kick off this AP?

Entirely up to you. The pragmatist in me says that planning too long term in a PbP (especially with Pathfinder V2 on the cards) is not easy. If there's any place for planning for the moment, it's these very long term games ;)

I haven't thought about firearms. The AP assumes they are pretty much non-existent, and I've never used them, either as a player or a GM. But if you want to I don't have an issue.

Thomdril Merrilin wrote:

Once we are ready ;) I'm happy enough to get going as soon as, but this is one of those APs where you are dropped right into the action, so need the characters complete before we start.

That means it's important to know why you are with the caravan, and you can assume you've bumped into each other a few times at least in the last few days/weeks.

So currently we are looking at:

SamuraiNitta - Nasir Al’Issaf - Steelblood Bloodranger
YanJieming - Wizard??
The Second One - Amori - Half-elven bard
Ouachitonian - Something ranged
Dragoncat - half-elven Oracle of Life
Thomdril Merrilin - Human Unchained Rogue

So we have a decent front line, some ranged backup, some buffing, some healing and a decent set of skills, and potentially some magic. It's looking pretty rounded.

If we can get the characters nailed over the weekend we can aim to kick off properly Monday.

Also, just for kicks, what timezones are you all in? I'm in the UK so GMT/UTC at the moment.

I’m sorry... I had a mental moment and just saw the campaign traits. I will reselect what I picked. Also, are you allowing this trait from the campaign? If so, I think everyone will be trying to find Haleen. Lol.

I am in the mid-west of America and in CT (Central Time)

Finding Haleen:
You never knew your parents—perhaps they died when you were a child, or maybe you were taken from them and raised elsewhere as a slave. You owe your sanity and your life to a woman named Haleen. She could be your sister or merely a childhood companion, but whatever your relationship to her, she took care of you and protected you. She’s always been a part of your life, and although her temper often kept her from making friends or keeping a job, she’s always been kind to you. Haleen was instrumental in securing your freedom from slavery or making sure you got a good apprenticeship or job in society—but recently, she’d been growing strangely morose and depressed. You and Haleen normally kept no secrets, but whatever was bothering her wasn’t something she shared with you. One night, she vanished, leaving you a brief note, begging you to forget her and to get
on with your life, but something about the note bothered you—something in the way she phrased
her words struck you as forced. You may be convinced she’d been kidnapped, forced to leave against her will, or even magically controlled, but you also suspect that she left you to protect you from something—that was ever her way. You’re now convinced that it’s time for you to step in and protect her, but you had no idea where she may have gone until recently. Several months have passed since she disappeared, and you’ve spent those months searching for clues to her location, and you’ve finally found a lead—a mysterious note, a strange dream, the result of a back-alley divination, or a report of a sighting of a woman matching Haleen’s description has come to you, placing Haleen in the vicinity of an old ghost town named Kelmarane. What she’s doing there and how she came to be there makes no
sense to you yet, but the lead is the strongest one you’ve had. This and Garavel’s advertisement for mercenaries to accompany him to the region is all the omen you need. You joined Garavel’s group and eagerly await the day you’ll be leaving for Kelmarane. Although Haleen chose to become a swashbuckling adventurer, she always encouraged you to seek your own path, and her support is the primary reason you chose the class you did at 1st level. This class is always a favored class to you, and your dedication to it is such that every time you take a level in the class, you gain +1 hit point and 1 additional skill point over and above what you would normally gain. If multiple PCs take this trait, they should be siblings who were both protected and raised by Haleen.

I'm in GMT-5.

LOL, I see what you mean. I'm not worried about one or two people taking it, and being siblings, but we will have a look. You can only have one campaign trait, and I don't think anyone else has taken it yet....

Eh, I like my campaign trait - I'm not too fussed about mechanical superiority or inferiority.

Yeah, I was looking at Finding Haleen, but ended going with Gnoll Killer instead.

I am in the Midwest of America as well! But I am in Eastern time zone, GMT -5 as well.

Yeah, I expect there will be a few Gnoll killers.

GMT-7 here

I've pretty much narrowed down to a Transmutation Specialist Wizard, I'm looking at a sylph for flavor, if that's alright with you Montgomery, I kinda love the djinn descended idea in this setting, Probably going with Reclaiming Your Roots type background.

Ohh yeah, that could be funky.

Two humans, two half-elves, and a sylph walk into an abandoned settlement, hunting for gnolls...

Whatever could possibly go wrong....? Well, I mean, you're assuming you make it as far as the abandoned settlement.....

That's true! We might well not.

I mean, Amori is kind of highly motivated to get that far... freedom's a great desire for him.

It looks as if no one else is going for it so I will go with the Finding Haleen trait.

Incidentally, Atlantic Standard Time.

My oracle will be a Seeker of Adventure in terms of campaign trait.

Otherwise, CharGen's been a bit of slow going. I'll try to finish by Sunday.

I am very excited for this game! Is it Monday yet? Lol.

Seriously! I am pumped for some desert crawling action!

I think I've finally settled on Slayer. Are we doing a Drawback for an extra trait?

And are we using Background Skills?

I believe we are using Background Skills, as I asked that earlier. Montgomery Hall can confirm or deny this, though.

Ah, never seen the background skills before, but I like it. So yes, go for it.

Two traits as per normal pathfinder build rules, with one of them preferably being a campaign trait.

Neat.

Sorry for the slow going on CharGen--doing it in between study periods.

Likewise. (This is Ouachitonian)

But here's the bones. Still have to fill out the fluff and stuff. But I'm off the next two days, so if I don't finish tonight I'll get it tomorrow.

Yes, I went back to Ranger. Because reasons. Mostly the way Favored Enemy stacks with Gnoll Killer was just too good to pass up. The Cinderwalker archetype seems flavorful and unusually helpful in this AP, and is another part of why I went Ranger; it's hard to get energy resistance as a Slayer.

If you're wondering, yes, Fulk is named for the 10th century Count of Anjou. Why? I don't know, Fulk just sounded like a good orc name, and "the Red" seemed appropriate here.

Yes, the picture is a female half-orc and Fulk is male. Shut up. :P (It was the only half-orc picture that looked like an ethnic Katapeshi, and I actually didn't realize it was supposed to depict as female until I noticed it said so in the pic's info on the avatars page)

I think I'm going to be able to finish my character by Monday afternoon. Hope I'm not holding everything up.

I'm right about there with you dragoncat. I'm almost there, but gotta go to bed now it work will be miserable tomorrow.

Fulk looks good to me.

I'll knock up the game and discussion threads now then, and kick off, and you can be doing some interaction until we have the last two characters up.

Ok, we have Gameplay and Discussion threads up. Let's get going.

Was anyone thinking of attempting any of the Achievement feats?

I didn’t know these were going to be an option. I will take a look at them and let you know which one Thomdril will be going for.

No one has mentioned it, so I thought I would ask. They are an interesting concept that basically add a whole load of book-keeping to get a special feat later. i was just thinking that if anyone does plan to, the wiki would be a good place to track them.

Full could definitely go for the “All Gnolls Must Die” feat. Totally fits the character.

Healer's Touch sounds like Viridi's speed.

I might try and work toward the Flame-Tested Survivor feat.

None specifically stand out, possibly the History of Scars seems to fit the most....

No problem. May be worth getting you set up to be able to use the wiki so you can track them yourselves then. I don't *really* fancy doing it for you all ;)

Viridi is at last complete!

That is awesome. I love the first person background.... and all the little details that are going to tie into the campaign. Thank you!

Just one more character to go before we kick off proper....

I could go for the Gifted Mesmerist, possibly. But it's not something I'd be looking to do, necessarily.

Thomdril Merrilin wrote:

Yeah, if you don't fancy any don't worry about it. They are just one of the mechanics in the AP. Take them or leave them. I just wanted to make sure you knew they were an option.

First-person backgrounds, I've found, tend to give you a better idea of what the character's personality is really like. :)

Shiiru is complete. I'll head over to gameplay here soon.

Oh, legacy of fire. I'm really freaking late to the party.

But if you ever need a rogue, call me, I have a neat concept.
