Three months after a crushing defeat, the Dwarves of Gold Peak must band together, defend the city, rally their forces and allies, and eventually rescue the captured King Dak Nimbus.

Round 16

Durnim manages to strike the orc in front of him once, and it falls screaming to the ground.

Kragg drops another, and the final orc turns to flee, finding himself impaled in Durnim's sticker, and the Dwarves can breathe easy for a minute.

Three minutes pass, and the dwarves take some of the time to pick clean the battlefield of usable equipment.

Then, suddenly. . .

The horn blows again, and you hear the shout from behind you, “Fall back! Fall back! The city is under attack! Orcs through the lines! Fall back!

You know the plan calls to maintain a presence on the tunnel, but orcs are in the city- another tunnel has fallen. Tired, exhausted really, from the long battle, they leave the recruits to man the now most likely cleared tunnel and our heroic dwarves trudge down the tunnel toward the heart of the city. . .

Pausing here for any between combat actions the characters have, then I'll set back up the scene for the show down with the final orc boss.

Then, he leads the squad heading toward the city.

Following along at the back of the group Vargas went over his equipment and readied himself with small adjustments. "Well at least we may have some advantage when we find where they are holed up. We may be able to find a way around behind any invaders if we take time to assess option." He suggested in a lull of conversation.

"There will be more battles for sure. For now, rest, I will keep watch."

Round 1

There are fires all around, parts of the city in flames as you rush back, looking for where the orcs have breached. As you sprint through the streets and blocks you see a few scattered groups, but everywhere there seem to be other groups of defenders.

"Clang! Clang! Clang!"

A bell rings out, and you immediately recognize it, Trailblazer's Square, a monument to the ancient found of Gold Peak. Heading in that direction, you round the corner to the square just in time to see an old dwarf, the last of the scattered defense of the site cut down.

Four orcs face off against you here, and you can tell immediately these are high ranking members of their tribe- two block the path in plate armor, their shields and helms barely allowing their tusked grins to show through.

The other two are unarmored, rare for orcs, but you can make out the shimmering sight of magical protection. . . whatever they thought to find here, these are clearly the leaders of the entire band!

Rubius stops and signals for Tawny to rush forward. "Get 'em, boy!"

Durnim puts a potion of cure moderate wounds in the mynrughdaer's hand and insists he drink it. Not wanting to disappoint or turn down a much need remedy, Thurgrom down the potion quickly.

The Orange orc begins by activating Blessing of War and using a swift action to use Sacred Weapon, his axe beginning to glow red.

The blue bordered orc shouts back to his comrades in orcish then attempts to clear himself of the webs.

Thurgrom advances on the orc invaders once more. Upon seeing an orc cast a spell on his weapon (in orange), the mynrughdaer stops and takes a defensive stance, barking out insults in Orc.
Thurgrom sees the weapon being an issue, so once he joins melee with the orange orc, the dwarf noble will attack to disarm the orc warpriest, hopefully taking away his advantage.

The spider is sure enough unaffected by the spell, it's weak mind crude enough to not be affected by the orc Psychics spell.

Yes, I apologize- the orc breaking free would provoke from Durnim.

Kragg fires at the orc, his shot clanging off the heavy armor it wears.

Ungebrochen's spell stings out at the witch:

Durnim's attack clangs off the armor again; as he switches tactics his trip attempt fails, but he can tell that without the advantage of the armor he likely can trip the armored orc.

The spider rewebs the orc fighter and he shouts a particularly foul orcish curse at the psychic behind him, before switching tactics himself.

Vargas had started reviewing his spell components when the stroke of the lightning bolt took him unawares. A bitten back scream of pain became a loud grunt and he jolted himself into movement, drawing his wand again while moving to the side and invoking the curative magic.

Smarting from the lightning bolt, Vargas tries to restore some of his hit points.

Thurgrom tries to disarm the orc, and catches the orc's ax by the hook, narrowly pulling it from his grasp!

Kragg catches the psychic with an arrow, forcing him to try to concentrate on his spell!
Concentration: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 He loses the spell and you avoid having a summoned creature added to the mix!

Round 3

Rubius fires two arrows into the Psychic, causing him to gush blood, but he still stands!

The spider misses the orc, and tawny unleashes- one hit, and another narrow miss as Rubius watches the orc dodge to the side.

You can tell this orc is "very skilled" with both his armor and shield- Shield Focus and Armor Specialization, plus Dodge & Dex, and a Deflection bonus coming from an item for AC 27 total, down to 25 off the entangled.

The orc is lucky and manages to shake off the daze!

Durnim steps back, and easily hooks his foot, however, and he goes to the ground!

The orc fighter scowls and stands up, but the advantage of Durnims position allows him to get a good shot in as he does! AOO hits with the +4 for attacking a prone target

He steps in and slashes, looking to return the favor!

But his ax remains ineffective against the dwarf's armor!

The Warpriest uses another fervor point to cast a spell on himself again.

And finally he takes a vicious swing!

The Psychic, brutally wounded and unable to summon, switches tactics yet again, taking aim with a mental spell at Rubius who nearly killed him!

The witch looks to slow the melee dwarves from reaching him, aiming a hex at Thurgrom. DC 14 Will of fall asleep

It was about as effective as his advice.

I think my buddies get an AoO each here so I'll roll it. Feel free to ignore the AoO's if I'm mistaken.

When the psychic casts a spell at Rubius, the spider bites at it to protect its summoner.

AoO for spellcasting: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Dam: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Poison upon a hit: Bite—injury; save Fort DC 14; frequency 1/round for 4 rounds; effect 1d2 Strength damage; cure 1 save.

Also, psychic needs to concentrate to still hit me with that mind thrust if the 14 hits him on the AoO.

Tawny swipes at the orc as he stands but is distracted by the spell being cast at Rubius.

Tawny AoO: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 2 = 10

If the mind thrust still happens after AoO that MAYBE hits...:

Rubius tries to shake off the mental assault.
Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

But he can't throw it off and falls unconscious.

Vargas looked at the orc casting spells who then moved to melee while in heavy armor and gave a weak grin and chuckle. "Let's see how well this works then." he said as he invoked his last spell and moved more.

Casting Grease on the warpriest's weapon DC14 or drop the weapon

The Psychic's spell drops Rubius to the ground as he is overwhelmed by the Mind Thrust!

Thurgrom fares better, shaking off the Slumber hex, but fails to capitalize on the opening the orc warpriest left him.

Vargas casts grease on the Warpriest's axe:
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
And for the second time in as many rounds he loses his grip and it goes flying!

Kragg fires, er, well, "stones" at the psychic, and the orc finds itself impaled, it's lifeless eyes rolling back as his tongue flops to the side.

Round 4
Rubius stabilizes.
Tawny hits once, and the spider webs up the witch.

Assuming Ungebrochen is attempting daze again.
Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The fighter (blue) stands dazed, losing his next action!

Durnim steps back and drops the fighter to the ground again, and since he is dazed, he won't be standing up for a while!
