Actually, while Androk can really do well with the two 18s (19s, now?) and whatnot, what he actually doesn't need is a straight-up dump stat or two. So I guess it'd wind up being something akin to 19-17-15-13-13-11 -- which, after attribute bonus, would wind up 19-19-15-13-13-11. Which might fall into the 'pump one/dump none' thing, I dunno.

Well, if 19-19-15-13-13-11 works for you, then I have good news:

After consideration, I decided to say "no" on any change to char-gen rules, BUT... the two-best/two-worst array is before the attribute bonus. So if you give a racial boost to one of your 11s, you get something better than your above examples:

19-19-15-15-13-11 (bold = a +2 racial bonus)

...

If you're curious about pump/dump...:

Pump-one/dump-none would be: 19-15-14-14-14-14, making 90 points by getting +2 in everything except the one stat you care about.

It isn't "bad." It just defeats the purpose of a simple system where you get what's probably better than a 25-point buy. The reason I made it this way is to minimize the numbers game, and make char-gen quick and dirty. Example: I have a goddess-like body—19 CHA, 19 CON... but I'm a clumsy fool—11 DEX, 11 WIS.

I know allowing all archetypes has more potential for power-gaming than stat adjustment, but I feel like archetypes are more about flavor. The look/feel part of char-gen is where I really want players to focus their freedom of choice.

All right, just a couple more questions before I toss my horrible mess out for y'all to go either 'oooo' or 'ewww' at.

If we're looking for a somewhat 'over the top' / 'superheroic' style of play, would the World is Square 'feat tax' rules (which are really 'feat tax refunds') possibly be up for consideration? Everyone functionally gets a handful of baseline feats (specifically Power Attack, Deadly Aim, Combat Expertise, Agile Maneuvers, and Point Blank Shot) for free, and a number of others (mostly the 'Improved <Combat Maneuver>' ones) are collected into basically 3-4 feats instead of the 13 or so they otherwise are. (TL;DR version, including a link to download the Hero Lab file for it, expanded upon in this post.)

If we go with the WiS rules, we (and possibly bad guys, particularly lieutenants and big bosses) would be able to much more easily do fun things like tripping people, dragging them into the shadows, tackling them off balconies, disarming three bad guys in a round, that sort of stuff. I personally recommend it, and would love it if it were resoundingly agreed upon, but I'm aware that this revision isn't universally loved.

My other question was, uh, well, just wondering after Captain Andoran's race. :P

For now, however, The Foxhound has been roughly sketched out ...

Oh, Sunset didn't delete the old Azanti version, which threw me off at first. Under spoiler tags is the Cap'n A for this game, which is standard human. (Note the Azanti Cap'n has stats not of this game, and the legal odd-numbered stats under a spoiler tag.)

I did read about Feat Taxes (while people were already submitting characters), but decided against it. I don't want to house rule too much since the game will have multiple GMs.

Me Blathering:
I do agree with the principle behind WiS... but it basically is a houserule that's practically made for my own character, since it's a shortcut to every feat I want. I definitely don't want to houserule to my own advantage. In fact, I just found a way to legally use my character's stilettos as IUS weapons (RAW: improv weapons, punch dagger damage), which cost me all 1000g of my GM'ing bucks! (Versatile Weapon Modification, 500g per shoe.)

What's really funny is that with power attack and >20 STR, my character can't hit as hard as the two heroines who first struck the "gut buster" monster. But then, that's my choice to use a lousy weapon instead of a two-hander.

That said, I don't see an issue having a Cap of Human Guise that is modified to do "less," such as not changing your size. I suppose there would normally be a 50% price increase to modify item size, but let's just leave it at 800g. I don't feel this is game-breaking, just that you want your character to disguise as an adult and found an affordable item.

I actually do have a precedent: Bulge has a Hat of Greater Disguise that only allows him to disguise as himself at a younger age. It's called Hat of Greater Self. (Feel free to make a slight change to the name of your cap.)

SOrry about that.

Still kind of editing things.. when time permits..

Cheers.

No problem!

I'm still trying to finalize my own characters. VV is all set (though I'm still touching up so I'm pkanned up to Lv.20), but I still need to add her familiar's story, flight speeds and spells/abilities for each form. I'm not even sure what Fairy Blossom's human form* can do. I guess just hang out and be human.

*(Fey-touched creature, Lv.3 familiar, but I won't use the human form until Lv.9 when my familiar can change to any of her Vigilante aspects at will.)

WiS is a shortcut for everyone, really, particularly because even though two people have STR 11, everyone in this game has Dex 17 or better. With that, for one feat you get to disarm, trip, all the fun Dex stuff; for a different feat, to bull rush, drag, all that Str stuff.

If I can make the suggestion, put it to a vote of those currently in the game. I'd predict it gets a resounding 'yea', and it would definitely kick up the potential for all the flamboyant 'superheroic' stuff.

Almost everyone.

(tl;dr version - no on WiS; see Discussion for what you can vote on.)

And actually, that's part of what made me not like the shortcuts. I'm making a fun build for VV, but limitations forced me to sacrifice, hold out, and just not worry about Improved TWF and Punishing Kick. I have no idea why Power Attack only requires 13 STR and one feat, why TWF needs three feats at DEX 15, 17, and 19, or why Pinishing Kick requires CON and WIS to be 13 while Vicious Stomp requires actually knowing how to kick hard (IUS and Power Attack).

Basically, I decided to accept PF's rules and play within them for the same reason I didn't use any of my own houserules: for fear of unintentionally invalidating a player's choices or class abilities. Right now, the only class ability I'm knowingly invalidating is Alistair's "Hard to Kill" and the Vigilante talent "Another Day" is pointless. But that's because PC death is illegal—it's considered cheating on the GM's part if he kills you. (If a player jumps off a thousand foot cliff to prove his immortality, he can remain in a healer's tent unconscious as his shattered bones heal for the remainder of the episode. I've never had a problem telling players up-front they won't die, but I do plan for the possibility.)

I won't put WiS up to a vote because I know I would need to recreate my character, and other players might be similarly inconvenienced by a sudden rule-change. I would feel like I'm disrespecting the players that are already in combat now. I also feel like WiS only solves a select portion of PF's feat issues. (Examples: Why is Familiar Spell a feat, and not just a thing a familiar can eventually do? Why is Two-Handed Thrower a feat? I can lift 798 lbs as a light load. I need two hands to pick up and throw something that big, but I need a feat to get my two-hander damage bonus?) I'd rather just steer clear of this sort of house-ruling because, at least for the way my brain works, it paves the way for more house-ruling.

I do have two questions up for votes, neither of which would put players in a situation where they need to redesign characters. Check out my latest Discussion post. A yes to 1 means you can get some of the fun-but-less-combative feats every 4 levels. Yes on 2 means you're leveling up twice as fast and can at least get prereqs over with.

Can I meet you half-way?

Half-way is this:
You get a refund on ANY "Improved" feat when you get the "Greater" feat.

That is, same annoying prereq's, including the universally-despised* Combat Expertise, BUT if you were to, for example, take Improved Grapple at Lv.7 and then get Greater Grapple at Lv.9, you could replace Improved Grapple with Improved Bull Rush or Battle Cry or any other feat you were able to take at Lv.7. And if you did choose Improved Bull Rush, you could get Greater at Lv.11 and again, refund your Lv.7 feat. It's a gift that keeps on giving!

This is sort of a half-way for WiS, but with a clear trigger for refunds and no need to redesign existing PCs. Well, unless you're like me and planned out all 20 levels, but I'm probably the only one who did that.

If you like this compromise, I'll put it up to a vote.

*(Autocorrect said "universally-disposed." Nice try, autocorrect.)

See discussion. I decided to just ask anyway.

Caledon is ready.

I'll PM you later with info for your character, but if you want to post in combat now, go ahead!

What you know is that Nagaji slave girls are held captive by the Frog Prince of Darkness. You know that his plans for them are not really about sex trafficking. (The other players already found this out. I'll PM you something they don't know.)

And speaking of PM, don't forget to change your familiar stats to Sidekick stats... which are better than regular familiar stats, so this is a good change.

PM sent!

Hi! Got the PM you sent VV! It might take awhile for me to set up a character but I would love to join!

There will be some plot/downtime RP soon. The party just mopped the floor with a froghemoth who somehow unleashed six additional creatures upon his death.

Once you set up a character, let me take a look, and also let me know what bits you read of the episode.

(And if you read AND have any theory as to why the froghemoth became more than one creature, I'm interested to know that too—over PM.)

VV

I have soon a bit and the Char gen and rules
I have to say, it looks interesting, and I may join soon after I Gen my Character.

Please note: I am posting this right after my reply to you message, so I might be asking somethings twice.

so, as I have seen, the base stats to be used are 18,18,14,14,10,10. Right?
or has that changed sense? (I have not been through the whole discussion, so I am drawing a bit of a blank in some areas).

and My question still is if I may be tie-fling, or a gunslinger? (still, anything already cannon).

and if I am able to be a gunslinger, what level of firearms are we dealing with?

and what other restrictions might I need know about?
such as character traits, backstory need to knows, and maybe some information I may need to know about the world and some countries to make a reasonable character and backstory.

I might be going to much into this, but I need to know a few things before I can really begin.

also, I need to know what level I will be starting at so that I know what other things I might need to include in character and backstory.

I'm sorry if I may be asking a bit much. I just want and need to know what I need to do, and maybe even what I will be dealing with world and PC wise.

if yo could provide me with any information requested, that would be nice.

I'm laughing right now by how long I have made this.
I hope to hear from you soon.

WW

Ok.
I think I know what I want.
and I did check the message board a bit, so that helps.

we at, what, level 5 or 6 now?

I'm going to be a tie-fling Gunslinger, with some levels in sorcerer maybe.
I will be a bit of a western type character as well, maybe not the same region or town as VV, but a western type area none the less.
I will be ether N,G, or C,G.
not a vigi type. but, if the town I grew up in or lived in was rough or not good, I might be a bit of an outlaw there. I would at least be a loss gun.

Still need to work out details on how to play character and backstory.

I found out I could do 2 traits and optional draw-back.
that's fine by me, unless that has been changed.

well, that is what I want to do. just tell me if I can or not, I'll get started on it.
