    Lady Nymeria Vail’s childhood in Baldur’s Gate was one of pampered luxury mixed with tumultuous family drama. The product of an out-of-wedlock affair between an elven adventurer and Duchess Karliah Vail as she was undergoing a trial separation from her husband, Nymeria was the eldest and only daughter of the family. Though her father could be said to have tolerated her existence at best, her mother tried to make up for his neglect and resentment by smothering her in as much affection as possible.

    As she grew to adulthood, Nymeria found that she had a natural aptitude for befriending others, a keen ear for music and a graceful bearing that lent itself to both dancing and feats of acrobatics. Her mother encouraged her to hone those talents, paying for tutors to instruct her in the arts of entertainment and etiquette—and it was from those tutors that Nymeria’s interests would grow into a lifelong desire to learn more of the world around her.

    By the time she entered womanhood, she had heard stories of far-off lands to the north, west and east—but precious few of the lands to the distant south. Most of those stories came from the books of one Volothamp Geddarm—a prolific (to say the least) explorer and sometimes-reliable author who hadn’t (yet) provided an account of the strange lands beyond Halruaa. Seeing an opportunity to make her mark in the history books (and perhaps also one to outshine Mr. Geddarm and show up her father), Nymeria sought out lessons in the native language of Zakhara—and once she had at least a decent grasp on the language, set out for the far continent’s shores. She would be the one to explore that distant land and write about what she saw there—and she even had a title in mind for her work: Nymeria’s Guide to the Lands of Fate!

    After many tendays of sea travel, Nymeria finally arrived in the continent of Zakhara—and no sooner had she arrived than she experienced a culture shock the likes of which no amount of book-learning or stories could have prepared her for. Fortunately, she has managed to make some progress (however slight) on her work—but she has since realized that her efforts would be made easier if she were in the company of like-minded persons…

    Lady Nymeria Vail is a petite blonde woman with gently pointed ears, pale skin and shining baby blue eyes—all of which mark her as an outlander in the continent of Zakhara. While she’s learned to dress for the desert weather (and usually in white), she’s almost never without the floppy red beret she brought from Baldur’s Gate. She is quite dainty, yet graceful—the product of growing up in luxury and having only recently taken to the adventurer’s life.

    Nymeria Vail is a young woman with boundless curiosity about Zakhara and a naïve demeanour brought about by a sheltered, aristocratic childhood. Her perpetually cheerful and proper bearing brings with it an infectious enthusiasm for learning that’s difficult to resist. Though she has a way with words, she has a difficult time seeing beyond them, and is a touch too ready to take the word of a stranger.
