It seems enthusiasm for the playtest is waning across the board. Are we still interested in continuing this game?

I think they changed retributive strike so that it no longer interrupts the attacking strike?
Anyway, we're going with the version used that was current when we started this game (feels like years ago now).

Yeah, the whole paladin class is quite different now. Best to stick to the version we started with through the end of this section of the module for consistency's sake.

Please let me know if this is too metagamey
I took another look at the map and I'm wondering something. See the only 'formal' entrance into room 9 is through room 10. What if we built an encampment within room 10?
I think last fight got a little out of hand because there's a lot of surface area for the enemy to exploit. Also the barricade at the door did delay them, but we couldn't do anything about it until they broke through. Once they get smart enough to avoid the doors and just use the windows, we could have problems.

I don't think that's too metagamey at all, it sounds like good tactical thinking.
I'm pretty sure it's not what the module had in mind, but that's the game designer's problem, not ours.

We're supposed to protect the professor. I'm not sure what room he's in--the basement? We'd do well to gather around that entrance to keep him safe.

We'll be better if we're all nice and tight together.
Yeah, we will! ;) ;) ;)

            You people are insane.
Anyways, so we start by barricading room 10?
Ashlion, considering that you don't have reach... we could station you at the window, or we could omit one barricade and just use you as a brick wall. What are the rules for attacking around corners? Like if we put him 5ft beside an open door, could he attack someone standing right in front of the door on the other side?
If we put Roz within reach, her reaction could trigger every round when Ashlion gets hit.

I have to confess: I'm not really feeling this. I can't put my finger on why, exactly, but it's not that much fun. I've been a DM for a while now and I've always managed to get something from the games I'm running, but this time...
Just wondering where you guys are at?

Feeling the same. The RP is fun but the playtest is very dry and the rules aren't where they're supposed to be yet. That is the nature of a playtest, though. We'll have to wait for a complete rule system.
I don't mind ending things to focus on other games.

I'm disappointed and irritated, but if you aren't having fun, I won't stop you from leaving. An unhappy DM does not make for a good game.
I hope you don't give up on your Kingmaker game. You've ditched the last game I was a part of, and likely this one too, but your Kingmaker PCs don't deserve that kind of treatment. They are the best players a DM could ever ask for.

| Wandering GM Wastrel |

I'm definitely not ditching the Kingmaker game! I take DMing seriously, which is why I dropped the game I was PC in to focus on DMing.
My issue is with the playtest - not sure whether it's the rules, the AP or what but it isn't working for me.
I like this group and if I decide not to proceed with the playtest I'll definitely be setting up another campaign to run if you guys are interested. Not sure what yet - I hear good things about the Ruins of Azlant and the Strange Aeons APs, but if anyone has a favourite or one they want to try then by all means say so.

You can't fight the tide. My two cents on the matter is that the playtest adventures are representative of early Paizo PFS adventures: railroaded and generic to the point they are no longer palatable. Add in the clunky mechanics and tada, you get a somewhat jarring game.
For me, the banter and roleplay made it an enjoyable experience, but as it stands, I'd never opt for PF 2.0 or any of the playtest adventures when given a choice :)

Thankfully, banter and roleplay are available in PF1 :)
Or Starfinder, for that matter

I would be up for another game with this group. Currently running 3 Ruins of Azlant games, so another AP would be my preference. I could do Starfinder too.

3 Azlant, 2 War for the Crown, 2 Ironfang Invasion, 1 Iron Gods, 1 Return of the Runelords...
I may be slightly insane.

Is d&d your full-time job, Roz?
I'm running a Hell's Rebels, and a Rise of the Runelords. I play in 2 Strange Aeons games, a War for the Crown, and a Falcon's Hollow game.
I'm willing to play in a new game. Pick anything that you enjoy most. I've never played Starfinder before, but I'm willing to learn it.

I don't think Starfinder is the system for me. As for APs, I'm down with anything that isn't Kingmaker or Hell's Rebels.
It's that my current mobile phone is a piece of excrement or else I'd be more open to DMing a game on here. The thought of having to do anything but writing small posts on it gives me anxiety attacks. Maybe later in 2019, when I get a new one, I'll look into setting up a house-ruled PF game in and around Zhentil Keep. Skulduggery, intrigue and internal (or should I say, infernal?) politics: it's fun for everyone!
Honestly, who hasn't dreamed of playing a bastardly wizard or scheming priest of Bane before?

Roz - not insane, just dedicated (or as Sheldon says in Big Bang Theory "I'm not crazy! My mother had me tested")
Jaks - sounds... intriguing. I look forward to hearing more.
Thinking of either Carrion Crown or Strange Aeons. Let me know if you have a preference!

I play in three of those and he's in one of mine, hence the comments about knowing each other quite well...
I too enjoy the group so playing something else would be good. Not keen on Starfinder but aside from KM I'll play any AP.
Maybe Mummies Mask? I've built Imhotep from The Mummy and I'd love someone to play Anck-su-Namun with him. (Although I'm going for the current recruitment, as is Brainiac so that might not work out...)
Otherwise... Strange Aeons could be fun. I've always wanted to play an android in that, lots of 'Uncanny Valley' creep potential there! I'm down with most things, just between what Brainiac runs and I play there isn't much left!

Never played Mummies Mask either

Oh, sorry Brynn - you did say that earlier and I completely missed it. Not doing well today in the old reading comprehension.
Hadn't thought of Mummies mask but am open to the idea.

I would go for Mummy's Mask. One of the few APs I haven't run or played in. I have a catfolk rogue I submitted for the other recruitment, but I'm willing to withdraw from that one if you are going to run it. I could also be the Anck-Su-Namun for Nik's Imhotep.
I've run Carrion Crown a couple times.

Ok, let's go with Mummy's Mask. I've never run it, so it'll be a new experience for all of us.
Roz: I prefer non-exotic races, but if you're absolutely set on a catfolk then give me a superlative backstory and I'll consider it :)
I'll set up a proper campaign and discussion thread and mark this as inactive in due course.
Playtest closed - apologies to Paizo for not finishing it, but it just wasn't fun.
(apologies also to Brynn, for freaking you out - I should have expressed it better that I was fedup with the playtest, not with being a DM)

I understand. I hope you can get excited for Mummy's Mask.
I have a character in mind, but I must ask: Is everyone okay if I were to play an over-the-top pompous British flop? He was a favourite once upon a time, but I don't want to offend anyone.

So we're looking at Imhotep, Anck-su-Namun, Edmund Blackadder and the frenchman from the Holy Grail?
This could be amusing... :D
Don't feel like you have to be Anck Roz, it's just something fun I'd like to do with Imhotep. I'd also play it more straight, but my MM character for that is moonlighting in the Ruby Pheonix Tournament right now.
@Wastrel: if you want normal races I guess a Ghoran is out? I like them for the 'Seed' ability and having all knowledges, both of which are very fluffy for Imhotep (if the seed is a scarab that burrows into the sand...) but at 19RP I assume they count as too powerful. :)
