I'll take it, thanks very much Rozalia.
I've got my ability scores, skills, and feats done.

Trying to decide on magic items. Only my 5th levels have been decided. Any opinions?
One 6th: Chime of Opening? Goggles of Night? Ring of Energy Resistance? Traveler's Any-tool?
Two 5th: Divine Prayer Beads, Necklace of Fireballs
One 4th: Bag of Holding? +1 expert Scimitar?
Two 3rd: Bracers of Missile Deflection? Potion of Invisibility? +1 expert medium armour?

The +1 weapon and armor are definitely worthwhile. I'd pick up the chime of opening since we have no rogue, and the bracers of missile deflection are good. Try not to pick potions unless there's absolutely nothing else you want. They are only a few gp each so you can buy them with your leftover cash.

Right I forgot that I could buy potions pretty easily. So I'll takes the bracers and the armour.
I'm not exactly planning on being in melee, and I can step back through difficult terrain, and I'll be wielding the staff of healing. So I'm not sure if the weapon is worthwhile.
Right we don't have a rogue, but if we have a bard he might take care of that.

This alias has become available so BRIAN BLESSED is now from Vudra.
May I present Ashlion 'Never-Stealthy-Except-By-Accident' of Vudra!
I'm planning on (and yes, underusing a lot of my slots)
Disrupting Rune, +1 Greatsword, Ring of the Ram, +1 Full Plate, Brooch of Shielding, Bracers of Missile Deflection.
No other purchases with my 125 gold yet, so happy to help fund a party pot if we want something big.
RETIRED: Saved the Isle of Kortos and now busy creating a very large family with his wives.
Ashlion is done - more or less. I'd appreciate someone looking it over and checking I've got everything right so far!
Hi Ashlion - looks in order to me, I think.
OK, just waiting for Solicitor's character (get well soon!) and we're good to go!
Feel free to post in gameplay to get things moving.

I have 18 strength too and all my gold available. Do we want to team up for a Bag of Holding perhaps?
I need to pick spells too... any suggestions?

Hi all
struggling with a cold plus overwork (the two not unconnected possibly)

Often just worth assuming that we ask all the sensible questions and give all the answers to us in one block. :)
I've numbered the rooms on the map and added an upstairs bit, where your rooms are.
There's a locked door, which I've marked. Not sure if any of you are trained in lockpicking.
I'll put some room descriptions up soon.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

If by lockpicking, you mean "Ashlion smashes the door down," then yes. :)
I think looking around is fine but making that sort of noise will get you in trouble with your hosts!
EDIT: I've marked impassable terrain (in this case the marble pillar; no, it's not a rug!) with dotted yellow lines for ease of reference.
If anyone wants to do more exploring let me know asap. Otherwise I'll move us along in a few hours.
EDIT: so, in this game of survival horror, Brynn is playing The Chick, right? :D

How high up is the balcony? If Roz jumped down, which square would she land in on the first floor?
Rulebook doesn't say. Let's say it's 20 feet from the balcony to the bottom floor.
Using the two squares of the staircase as a reference point in both maps, I think if Roz jumped straight down she'd land right next to Royst, the male student (the one with the long white hair).

Oh, Brainiac x'D
Quick question: are there drawbacks to casting in combat? A quick search in the .pdf and on google doesn't really bring up any negatives.

Spells with Somatic and/or Material components have the Manipulate trait, so it provokes Attacks of Opportunity if the enemies have that reaction. Verbal Casting doesn't provoke. Otherwise, no drawbacks!
What Rozalia said.
Brynn: you start the fight fully armoured. I think it would skew the playtesting results if I made you fight in just the towel :-)

By the way, Ashlion, drawing a weapon now requires a separate Interact action. You can't combine it with movement. The only way to get around this is to be a rogue or ranger and take Quick Draw, which lets you draw a weapon and Strike in the same action. :(
Yes, you'll have to draw your weapon next turn.
In passing, is anyone else bothered by the fact so many feats are now 'locked' behind class barriers? Quick Draw is an obvious example, but there are several others. It vexes me, but I'm thinking I might be in a minority there.

Yes, it bothers me. Several of my characters would have benefited from being able to take other Class Feats instead of General or Skill Feats.

I tend to find the General and Skill Feats to be a bit lack luster compared to the class feats. Some of which make sense to be class locked, but I think quick draw is a good example of a feat that should be available for any martial class.
Thanks DM, though to be specific the towel was around her hair, as she already got back into her clothes. (The idea of owning just one set of clothes is a little gross, isn't it?)

I think they disempowered lower level play in general. While making Jaxis, I browsed through the skill feats and found the good ones to be hidden behind expert and master level, which gives me the feeling that your character is supposed to grow more powerful over time ... but you're also significantly less powerful at lvl1-4 than you were in PF1.
At expert level, you get to pick feats that broadens the use of the skill. At master level, you get to start turning your skill into an actual power. Not sure whether I like it or not, but at least it adds depth to the skill system?
RETIRED: Saved the Isle of Kortos and now busy creating a very large family with his wives.
Im not overly fond of the available feats I must say. As you say, most of the good ones are hidden one way or the other. Picking feats, particularly playing a rogue, actually gets hard because there's almost nothing good - especially with how terrible Assurance is...
To focus on the crucial stuff: Brynn, I tend to just handwave outfits at higher levels. Some things just aren't worth keeping track of, and by level 7 you've probably acquired enough clothing to put on an impromptu fashion show.
