In truth I am motivated by two opposing goals.

1) To engage in some truly challenging fights.
2) To survive as long as possible in this campaign.

Agreed.

I however love creating new PC's, so have no problem dying in heroic fights.

Plus, like I said, we have Ulave. Pity the undead army that comes our way!


Ulave might appreciate some help in rolling up a new character. He spent several days on this one, or so he said.

Rurik. May I humbly suggest that we both summon celestial herd animals with trample. They can run through the crowd and attack many enemies per turn.


though those Lantern Archon have a lot of potential though too

I thought about that but was worried my trample animal would get mobbed.

Not only that, but my lantern archon's are both giving us buffs (AC and saves) as well as potentially debuffing the enemies, while also giving us 4d6 touch attack damage a round while being high enough to not take any damage for the whole fight.

So: lantern archons for the win?

Lantern archons are fantastic! Rurik it looks like you can cover the entire perimeter of the encampment with the archons' aura of menace by placing them in the middle of the encampment.

I understand the -2 penalty to the enemy, but where is the protection from evil effect coming from?

Also if you'd like them to make their ray attacks, please roll attack and damage.


The buffs are nice, 4d6 is nice.

2d6+9 [ +11 ], DC 17 (DC19 if stampede) with trample.
A trample does not require a straight line move and tramples anything underneath their 10x10 space. There are attacks of opportunity, but at a -4 or a save for half damage.
I imagine each can trample 10 skeletons in their turn.

once they close in tight, Ulave will attempt to channel positive energy. its a 30' radius effect, approx 4d6 damage. am hoping nothing on our side will be effected by positive energy. i might manage that a few times

Then again this is difficult terrain so movement is halved..which will effect trample

I have reconsidered the summons. A double move by a horde of skeletons needs to be blocked...

I mean Ammonis would probably do it soon (whether keeping or not keeping summons 1d3 roll), so just keep those big buggers to the side.

@Agyen Iyon would gladly accept Weapon of Awe but leave him low on the priority list to get it down over the next while. Even though he's not using his primary weapons against regular skeletons as he's shown already so far he can do more than enough to pulverise them...

...but why do I get the feeling we will end up tangling with some necromancers or skeleton champions before the onslaught is done.

I don't know what new death is waiting, but I happen to have a pretty good defensive buff spell called TinyHut which provides TOTAL CONCEALMENT, meaning:

A successful attack into a square occupied by an enemy with total concealment has a 50% miss chance (instead of the normal 20% miss chance for an opponent with concealment). You can’t execute an attack of opportunity against an opponent with total concealment, even if you know what square or squares the opponent occupies.

It fits 9 people for sleeping but its 2x, so 4 people battle style.

I will cast it Rurik you should join so you can summon without getting AOO.

I can only summon 1 set of monsters at a time, Cornu - summoning another monster dispels my lantern archons.

My plan is to mow down some skeletons with my bow till they get in close, then switch to my warhammer until things get too dicey, at which point I'll unleash some Searing Light and retreat to your hut.

Also, DM, I goofed and didn't mention any of my prep spells that I'd have had time to cast before the attack began. Namely Haste, Bless, Divine Favor, and Wrath. My apologies. Can I factor those in? Rurik wouldn't have waited till combat started to cast them.

Rurik: Is that true of your class? I can't seen anything in the summon monster spell.

The hillside is frustrating my plan to mow them down with trample. I have a summons range of 40' and if they try to go downhill they have to make a reflex save or tumble down the hill. That would be hilarious, but I'm not sure.

Wicked DM: Reason I was asking about weapons was the protection from evil spell. It grants some kind of immunity from evil natural attacks as long as you do not attack.

This isn't the case. I am ignoring the terrain rule and simply treating it as difficult terrain without regard to the direction traveled. I merely mentioned the terrain rules in passing. See roll20 chat.

Unfortunately Haste comes from his boots, so can't be shared. Bless, however, should be!

He can fairly consistently take out two skeletons a turn and they aren't a huge threat to him with his damage reduction. Haste would bump it to three a turn...

If you've got something better to cast or do with your turn do it.

Guys, please list all buffs over in gameplay, even if you discuss them here. It's difficult and time-consuming to have to switch between two threads to understand what is going on.
