Jumping up from where he lay sleeping next to Shalista, Ormak sniffs the air, and glances around for trouble 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 Perception, low-light vision, in case it matters.

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

in the pitched darkness none of you can truly see what you face, yet the hissing is audible...

Perception check, 20:

while you cannot see the creature in the darkness you can hear it and tell that it must be roughly within thirty feet of you...

Kyrso attempted to remain silent so as not to draw attention to himself.

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

ack, forgot you did Artor all I remember about the core races was that only half orcs had darkvision my mistake...

What those with darkvision see:

Before you a massive snake with black scales lurks, while you cannot see all of the snake you can see that it is large... Very large (at least seven feet tall

male Dwarf Ranger 1 HP 11/11

"I hate big snakes, someone light a fire before another thing in this godless land tries to kill us."

Male Halfling Summoner 3 (Master Summoner)

"Here's a light."
Kyrso cast Light.

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

As Kyrso casts the spell all of you see the serpent in it's terrifying grandeur... The beast is easily ten feet long and exceptionally wide, it's body is nearly as wide as a small beer barrel. The creature is almost entirely black in coloration but has white stripes covering it's body like some form of ribcage, the snake's snout is also white...

Knowledge nature 20:
This dread creature is the legendary giant spitting snake, known for it's exceptional aggressiveness and it's signature ability... While perfectly capable of biting the giant spitting snake or Is'chom as the drow prefers to attack by unleashing exceptionally toxic spit at an enemy that immobilizes prey so it can swallow them whole...

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 K:N, I keep missing DCs by 1

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 Wild Empathy to attempt to calm it down, or not attack

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

The serpent pauses at the druid's attempt to calm it down, yet is not enough evidently... The serpent's head sways as if listening to a rhythm...

Perception 20 or sense motive 25:

While the snake is swaying it's head it clearly has a target, a dwarf...

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

The eagles attack with great fury, yet most of their blows do nothing against the snake's glistening, resilient scales... Even the blows that make it through seem to not have their full impact... The snake turns it's focus to the eagles and bites one with exceptional hatred, killing it...

it is now round 2(note on the creature/encounter table I'm using it is only used during "exploration" or "journeys" scripted events like the siege will be CR level (relatively) however during exploration and journeys encounters may not be CR equivalent (this applies both ways a random encounter/creature could be way above you in CR or way below you and anything in between))

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

The snake reels as the assault by the eagles begin to take a toll... While the creature's veins are starting to pulse unnaturally purple it is still quite evidently alive and angry.

are the pcs still here?

male Dwarf Ranger 1 HP 11/11

waiting for it to get closer to my turn

Male Halfling Summoner 3 (Master Summoner)

As am I.

Male Shifter Shifter/Ranger(shapeshifter)2

The shifter lets loose a stone from his sling 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 But his attack sails over the snake's head.

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

As unmarked has not reported in I am botting him

Unmarked runs forward to attack the target...

Devastating Touch, attack1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

The serpent easily evades his clumsy attempt to strike it...

HP 30/30; PP 16/16(+3); Terror 9/9 Warforged (Mindforged, Psiforged) Dread 3

sorry, didnt realize it was my turn. thanks for botting. if we are waiting on me, someone can message me. sometimes i will check something on my phone and plan to post when i get home and then forget once i get there.

male Dwarf Ranger 1 HP 11/11

Artor slashes at the beast with his halberd.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 for 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 dmg.

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

Artors savage hatred for Xen'Drik's wildlife lends great strength and hatred to his blow yet the serpent is not quite dead... Although at the current rate of blood loss it is not long for this world...

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

oops even the gm forgot it was snake's turn...

The snake with great effort rears up and spits at Artor... The spit as it strikes the dwarf smells of acid and poison...

attack1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 (this is a ranged touch attack), damage1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Artor must now roll a fortitude save (dc 18) or suffer 1d2 dexterity damage..

male Dwarf Ranger 1 HP 11/11

Artor cries out in pain as the fell creature spits on him.

Fortitude 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

dex damage1d2 ⇒ 1

male Dwarf Ranger 1 HP 11/11

Artor strikes back at the creature.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 for 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 dmg.

Confirmation roll 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 for 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

I am almost thinking Artor should take a level of barbarian so he can truely rage against all the creatures that want to eat him.

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

And I would even lift the no Lawful alignment for it, as while I can't see a LG barbarian I can see a LN and especially a LE barbarian (Genghis khan anyone)...

Your sheer rage empowers your blow to slay the creature, you have decapitated it in a shower of gore...

Ormak if you want to you can now examine the creature again to figure out what sort of fell beasty it is (if you wanna take 10 you can)

yeah, ghengis khan makes sense.

Male Shifter Shifter/Ranger(shapeshifter)2

Ormak examines the snake, trying to figure out what it was. Most snakes he knew weren't so overtly aggressive.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 Know(Nature)

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

you hit the mother load, in addition to the previously posted information concerning the snake you also get this

Lore of the Drow: The Is'chom:

Is'chom are dreaded serpents that have haunted the drow for a long time, they were at least according to drow folklore and tradition serpents that the giant's took and altered via powerful magic to hunt down the drow during the age of rebellion against the giants. Whatever the truth is these serpents are feared by the drow and are known to hunt down those who are drow or who have recently consorted with them (via the scent of drow upon those the snake targets). The Is'chom while aggressive by snake standards reaches a new level of aggression that borders on hate when it smells the scent of Drow...

Male Shifter Shifter/Ranger(shapeshifter)2

"Hunts Drow. We smell like them" The druid explains.

male Dwarf Ranger 1 HP 11/11

"Those damned elves are still trying to get me killed."

HP 30/30; PP 16/16(+3); Terror 9/9 Warforged (Mindforged, Psiforged) Dread 3

"Can we mask our scent?"

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

roll survival Ormak

Survival 25:

Yes can mask their scent form snakes with a mix of potent herbs which make snakes regard the target as less tasty, the more pungent and plant like the herbs the better...

Male Shifter Shifter/Ranger(shapeshifter)2

1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27 Survival

"Yes" He says simply, beginning to gather what he needs to do exactly that.

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

finding the herbs will take either a perception 20 check or knowledge nature 20 check your choice.

Casting guidance
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

Male Shifter Shifter/Ranger(shapeshifter)2

1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29 Perception, also casting Guidance

male Xen'Dragon level 20 Xen'Dragon

Ormak locates the herbs and it will take roughly an hour to apply them, they will mask one's scent for a day and Ormak has found enough for two days.

what shall you do now as it is still night

male Dwarf Ranger 1 HP 11/11

Once everything is sorted, artor goes back to sleep.

HP 30/30; PP 16/16(+3); Terror 9/9 Warforged (Mindforged, Psiforged) Dread 3

Unmarked remains vigilant as others sleep. While not exerting himself, he will keep his mind sharp by looking at differences between various flora and fauna to pass the time until the morning sunlight filters through the canopy.
