Professor Lorrimor, the renowned investigator and arcanist, has died. You came to his home in the town of Ravengro to pay your respects, but quickly discovered there was more to the wily old man's death than met the eye...

I *think* we still need to;

-Talk to that stuck up biddy at the Church (re; Prisoner records, I think we've only details on one prisoner)

I think we've nailed the Whispering Way (I could be wrong) and I think we've got the prison itself down (again I could be wrong).

Is there any other lines of inquiry we've to chase down?

You are right on all of the above. Time enough to deal with the sheriff and the Pharasmins when you've cleaned the haemolymph off your boots, though. ; )

I know EXACTLY how that feels.

An Important Note
A spider swarm is made up of 1,500 Diminutive little spiders, each of which, taken on its own, has an AC of 17 (+3 Dex, +4 size). That means its touch AC is also 17.

However, a splash weapon is not targeting a single spider, it's targeting the entire swarm--which means, in my book, the swarm should be treated as a Large creature: that's the amount of space it occupies, after all.

Therefore, splash weapons will be aiming for a touch AC of 12 (+3 Dex, -1 size).

I hope that makes sense to you; it does to me. : )

Hey Raj clearly earned the level. I mean I opened a lid TWICE, closed it ONCE, stomped on a few plain old spiders, and ran screaming from a bunch more. That is some serious heroism! :D

All Dragomir, Theron, et al. did was actually kill the threats in the room.

I remember Aqua Teen Hunger Force! I was also a big fan of Space Ghost Coast to Coast. And Aeon Flux. And The Head. Good times. : )

Truth be told I mostly just watched the Japanese anime on 'Adult Swim', and my roommate watched Aqua Team. Dr. Weird is hilarious though :D I miss staying up super late to watch this stuff XD

Never that big a fan of Aqua Teen, not sure why. Space Ghost was pretty good. And I watched alot of the Anime on Adult swim (and in general).

I'm not complaining if you want 'em. My own ability to use them isn't the greatest (+2, +3 if I Arcane Enhance it, which I don't own yet), plus no feats to support that fighting style. So imo, yea all yours.

Raj uses a shortbow and, with his DEX, he's pretty good with it. I wouldn't mind having an arrow or three as a back-up.

Male Human Oracle 2

I just threw a post out there before we end up in book six and with me still deliberating.

Walter is a god of combat and requires all of the arrows. I don't even care if he's nonproficient and doesn't have a ranged weapon. Walter will use them to stab. That's how he rolls.

Male Halfling Cleric (Evangelist)/ 2

Lem would like to take a couple flasks of holy water before we go to Harrowstone.

Honestly, it might be better to sell one or two arrows to the swindler Merchant guy. We might get a decent deal on it if Theron sells it to him. Then I can use the money to make a lot of holy water (or buy some from the church of Pharasma ). Magic arrows are good, but holy water is cheap, we all can use it, it's a touch attack, and deals pretty good damage. Whaddya think?

Also, my guess is that we use those spirits in the vial with the Ouija board, like we get to ask them questions. I'm wondering if they're fey or demons, with the cold iron containers.

DAPPER HALF-ORC MAGUS

I like that idea. I have some cash remaining to pick up some scrolls, too. I wanted to use some money to potentially get more spells in Karriks' spell-book, but there might be a few key scrolls that would be nice to have on-hand in Harrowstone.

{HP9/19 | AC16 T12 FF14 CMD 16 | F/R/W 4/2/3} Female Samsaran Bladebound Magus 2

In a strict RP sense, Rose would oppose this. It's bad enough we've snuck into a Pharasman Crypt and looted the items, but since it's for a good cause she's willing. Selling it off, even for improved items would be more difficult to convince her it's right (though she will relent for majority vote).

In a metagame sense, I can agree. Holy Water can be useful if it's dealing with Undead. I may need to get a club of some form.

Had a feeling. With your dex Theron has to use Point Blank Shot to match you ;)

And yea, I like the idea of seeing if we can sell a few of the arrows. Lets just make sure there are no identifying marks on them first. Theron would be fine with it as long as they are just magical, and aren't some kind of blessed arrows.

...You know, I'm finding it amusing that the party's followers of the most lawful god represented in the group (I think) are probably caring the least about following rules and laws. XD

Well, assuming that they are simply magical arrows and not actually holy relics, we can probably trade some at the shop of the wizard Raj and I scared the heck out of earlier.

Found in Pharasism cache? Touch of god experience while liberating them? Holy. The lady of graves wants us to have this stuff - not sell it.

But again, ooc, what Dragomir doesnt know doesnt hurt him... he wasnt counting or cataloging the arrows. If you say there are only 10 of this or two of that? Its cool.

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor 2

In character, if even one or two people say to Theron that they don't like the idea of selling anything found in the cashe, then he won't push for the stuff to be sold. He also wouldn't be the one who comes up with the idea of selling the stuff, because frankly he wants to stick those arrows into things...

I ended up just having Theron hold back on asking questions for the moment, since I figured it would be too much backtracking (and not the right time).

Don't forget Kendra is a wizard with her own spellbook--she might be willing to let you take a look free of charge...

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor 2

As soon as the group gets home, a legion of exorcists descends upon Walter. Of course, Theron has no idea of where they came from.

Heh! I have a feeling that our multitude of alternate realities (where Kendra is an epic-level evoker, Lem is a 19th level wizard and so on) are possibly more amusing than the actual campaign. ; )

Normally, I try to respect spoilers but I figured it would make it easier for us to divvy stuff up with the whole thing listed:
.

  • 12 × alchemical silver arrows
  • 4 × sunrods
  • 6 × flasks of holy water
  • 10 × magical arrows (Type A: +1)
  • 5 × magical arrows (Type B: +1 Ghost Touch)
  • 2 × magical arrows (Type C: +1 Undead Bane)
  • 5 × potions of cure light wounds (automatically identified)
  • 2 × potions (Lesser Restoration)
  • 1 × scroll of detect undead
  • 2 × scrolls of hide from undead
  • 1 × scroll of protection from evil
  • 1 × thin darkwood case

Dragomir wouldnt mind one of the holy waters and one of the Cure Light Wounds. He doesn't have any magic of his own to draw on... He would suggest that splitting the arrows into 2 bundles = half to Theron and half to someone else with a shortbow would be a good idea so that if something goes wrong then we still have some of the arrows.

I also believe Lem has some 'haunt siphons' there? Probably wouldnt hurt to spread those out as well - Lem can already affect undead but the rest of us can't.

But this can wait until a few hours have passed.

<gets popcorn out to watch interplay between Raj and Lem>

I will be interested to see how positions in the group shake down. I think the medium of PbP prevents anyone from clearly becoming a leader early on, whereas the back-and-forth of a face-to-face game means it's quite easy to fairly quickly pin down someone who makes decisions.

And regardless of Raj's desire to remain 'behind the scenes', other than Kendra--and perhaps Karrik, although we haven't seen much of it--Raj probably knew Professor Lorrimor the best. That puts him in something of a position of power over the others at this point.

I am looking forward to seeing how this all shakes out. : )

Plenty of time to divvy up the spoils--unless you do something horrifically weird in the next 24 hours of in-game time, you won't need anything for combat.

I intend to make the next move-the-plot-along post tonight, my time (around 12 hours from now). If anyone objects to that schedule or has something critical they want to do first, let me know.

The items that would be a help to Raj (& possible quantities) are:

  • (2) Alchemical Silver Arrows (just in case - backup archer)
  • (2) +1 Arrows (just in case - backup archer)
  • (2) +1 Ghost Touch Arrows (just in case - backup archer.. and I really want to get precision damage on an incorporeal undead once :) )
  • (1) potion of CLW (being scout is dangerous work)
  • (1) Sunrod (as a backup or something to throw to light up an area)

Male Halfling Cleric (Evangelist)/ 2

Sorry it took me awhile to respond to Raj.

Cyn, do you think it would be best story-wise for me and Karrik to inform everyone about the haunt siphons when we're all back at the Lorrimor house?

Unfortunately, I can't use Channel Energy until level 3. This is why I'd also like to get a couple of the Holy Waters, and possibly sell a few arrows to get even more Holy Water.

As far as the haunt siphons go, you actually don't use them against undead creatures. There are different haunted locations called "haunts" which might cause undead creatures to manifest, for example, but the haunt siphons actually target the haunts themselves. So if a wight came after you and you opened a haunt siphon, it wouldn't do anything (unless the wight manifested as a result of the haunt, I guess).

At least that's how I read it, but I admittedly had to skim through the description and intend to read it more thoroughly later.

My guess is that because we are going to a terribly tragic place, Harrowstone will have several areas that are haunted and the haunt siphons will help us navigate those areas without getting massacred by ghosts/haunted rooms.

Yes, absolutely. Have your discussions in-character over on the gameplay thread or out-of-character over here on the discussion thread--I don't mind which. But I'd love to see all that stuff put to bed by the time you head out in a few hours of in-game time.

Yeah, I don't think the 5 prisoners/5 vials is a coincidence :-)

I also think we can use the Ouija board to try to commune with the Warden for help.

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor 2

Let's see... assuming no one else is taking arrows, I guess I'll take the ones Raj doesn't take. I guess I'll leave everything else to the rest of the group so I'm not hogging everything?

10 × alchemical silver arrows
8 × magical arrows (Type A: +1)
3 × magical arrows (Type B: +1 Ghost Touch)
2 × magical arrows (Type C: +1 Undead Bane)

*calculates* We would have to get a very good deal for it to be worth selling these arrows. Even selling one of the better ones would only net us 80 gold (assuming we get the usual half price when selling).

So, we can get x3 holy water from that (2d4 damage each)..hmm.

I guess if we did sell an arrow, I would say sell a ghost touch one. Though, I'm starting to think that selling an arrow might not be alright several of the characters, and I am a bit worried about if the arrows could somehow be traced to the crypt we got them from. If someone found out the crypt had a cache stolen from it, and that we had sold magical undead slaying arrows the next day... it could be difficult to explain.

Male Halfling Cleric (Evangelist)/ 2

Don't forget the 7gp for the mstrwork arrow itself too, if I want to get REALLY nitpicky, hehe. ;-)

Yeah, I was crunching the numbers too and thinking that it MIGHT be worth it if you could sell them to "scaredy-cat enchanter" for a marked up price, maybe 100 gp apiece. Like if you sold him one ghost touch and one undead bane arrow for 200 total, we could get 8 holy waters. Given the risk of getting caught, it's probably not worth it even if we get that kind of good deal.

Perhaps if I really charm the Pharasmans they'll give me some Holy Water with the promise that I pay them back from my money bequeathed to me by the good Professor. I could write up a document signing over some of the money or something...
