Sure, I can't channel energy and I can use Inspire Courage, but my powers are delivered by the Holy Might of Desna, hehe.
Oh right... I knew that. The inspire courage messed with my head XD
See? Lem's preaching is already affecting our minds! Run for the hills!

Unfortunately, 'the hills' is where Hook Mountain Massacre takes place, so good luck there. ; )

Folks, I'm under a bit of pressure at work today so I'm unlikely to be on much for the rest of my day, but I am about to post a massive update from Fr. Grimburrow.
I have agonised over this post overnight, whether it sets the right tone for the NPC, and whether it's appropriate for a GM to do to a PC what I'm doing to Lem (I promise you're in one piece Lem, really!), but it represents what I would like to think is a defining theme of the campaign, so being able to start the group thinking about it now is a bonus.
Just to be clear, Lem, I bear your character no ill-will and I hope you and the other players can take the interaction you have with Fr. Grimburrow in the way it's intended--as a part of an ongoing story that we're all sharing in telling.
Please let me know if you have any concerns after you've read the post. I am not above reversing time if I need to. : )

Hey Cyn, I would never take personally anything that happens from an NPC towards Lem. I know that you're driving the story along and I don't mind a challenge, and I think that you do a great job individualizing all of the different characters. And now, Lem will respond...
Walter Vheist |
Oh yeah, meant to add earlier that I would have liked to spend time on describing
** spoiler omitted **
but I simply don't have the time at the moment. Walter, if you want to do it yourself, be my guest, otherwise I can provide a more fulsome description over the weekend.
Unfortunately about to run to work. Blocks of granite need to be dragged from the quarry all the way to Cairo, and, well, they're not gonna drag themselves.

Who said you have to 'fight'? You can give him a piece of your mind and then some though. Report the old bastard for a flagrant disregard for his powers and their abuse, sure... stabbing him? Ehhhh, not so much.
Inquisitors do lay outside the normal hierarchy of their faith but you'd be smart enough to know that stabbing the head of a church of another faith, albeit a 2 horse town one, isn't gonna go well for anyone. Iomadae and Pharasma aren't related in scope like Desna and Pharasma so stabbing him will include some blow-back on the religious level let alone what will happen locally (including Dragomir freaking the hell out - not a threat either. It would be a total "WTF!!!" moment for him. It would be like you pulling a gun and blowing his brains out).
That said, Lem and Theron should act as they feel right - I support you guys 100% in your RP - whereever it may take you.
I've sought feedback from some of you and been told that Dragomir should be more assertive and self assured but he's STILL coming into his own and getting used to... well all of this. He's Mr. Mundane. He hasn't even seen his first undead yet. He hadn't seen flashy magic until 6-7 hours ago. Trust me it is coming and coming fast but there has to be some build up. He WILL be a trusted and loyal friend - to all of you [including the wierdo's :)] but I need some time and some freaky experiences. Someone wants to pull this S*** on Lem further on down the track? Forget Theron, Dragomir will be in their grill screaming at them.
I respect that in RPGs we have to work together and let certain things slide for the good of the plot/metagame and he IS moving in that direction but give him more than 24 hours to get used to spell slinging and defiance of the local head of the Church which he has ignored for the last few years but that has shaped his childhood (think Lapsed Catholic of a very devout Catholic Mother).
I will fast track this as much as I feel possible while remaining true to the character... We are 24 hours in and he's already thinking he may be wrong on his uncharitable thoughts.
Does this dispose him favourably towards 'Fada Gee', nope. Just turned him off getting chatty with him and doing the whole sharing religious thing - just like you can dislike your local parish priest (this will take time to fix with my Character development but I wasn't planning on rushing that part of his character development anyways).
I strongly suspect the theme will be a grudging co-operation with the local authorities and cold possibly grudging (possibly not even that) co-operation and some degree of opposition to the local Pharasisms... hoping that will change in time but in the meantime? certainly some of the group won't be feeling bad at all about what we did last night with the crypt.

So is anyone willing to speculate on why the old man decided to cast aggressive spells on Lem? Lem made an excellent point in his response; I believe the word he used was 'frivolous'. Something must be motivating him...

Here is the current disposition of things. I haven't thrown in Lem's ideas on scrolls yet because those seem up for debate. Since I'm going out of town, someone will have to take over list duty. :) Also, I'd suggest that anyone without darkvision or low light vision should take a sunrod 'just in case'. But if you want Raj to hold them all, that is alright with me.
- 12 × alchemical silver arrows <- 2 Raj, 10 Theron - DONE
- 10 × magical arrows (Type A: +1) <- 2 Raj, 8 Theron - DONE
- 5 × magical arrows (Type B: +1 Ghost Touch) <- 2 Raj, 3 Theron - DONE
- 2 × magical arrows (Type C: +1 Undead Bane) <- 2 Theron - DONE
- 5 × potions of cure light wounds <- 1 Drag, 1 Raj, 1 Walt, 1 Karrik, 1 Rose -- DONE
- 4 × sunrods <- 1 Raj, -- 3 MORE
- 6 × flasks of holy water <- 1 Drag, 2 Walt, 2 Lem -- 1 MORE
- 2 × potions (Lesser Restoration) <- 1 Walt -- 1 MORE
- 1 × scroll of detect undead <- -- 1 MORE
- 1 × scroll of detect undead <- -- 1 MORE
- 1 × scroll of anticipate peril <- -- 1 MORE
- 2 × scrolls of hide from undead <- 1 Walt, 1 Lem -- DONE
- 1 × scroll of protection from evil <- Lem -- DONE
- 1 × thin darkwood case (planchette, etc.) <- Walt -- DONE?
Throw me a sunrod...
Adding it to my sheet

You want Karrik's perspective or mine? ;)
Karrik thinks most religious types are trumped-up folks who throw around their deity's name and general social pull to get what they want. From the little study he's done -- and even the way the religions speak of their respective gods -- even the gods are really only mortal entities that somehow amassed enough power to side-step the usual natural cycle of life and death. The only evidence Karrik has of the deities are the churches and clergy. To him, there's just as much bad as there is good, which only re-asserts his idea that they're just normal folks who have nothing special to offer. They can cast divine spells. Whoop-dee-doo... he can cast arcane ones. Their methods are somewhat different, but not so different that they can't more-or-less recreate each other's abilities. He's even heard that there are some arcane casters capable of replicating the divine caster's healing spells (bards).
Why the diatribe? Just like any other guy, he's pretty sure Grimburrow is acting out of his own insecurity. He's a small-town clergy-man who's threatened by outside influences (especially Lem) to his local authority. So yah, so far, he's more or less a bully -- if a self-deluded one.

Just a heads up. My family and i are heading out of town for an extended weekend. Be out of pocket tomorrow morning through some time wednesday. Not sure if I'll be available to post or not, so feel free to NPC/play Karrik if it needs doing.
Definitely don't want the game to slow on my account.

Out of game, if you combine this with what happened with Dragomir I think that Pharasma has taken an interest in the party. She's helping some of us and trying to influence a few others.
She wants us to think more before simply going around saving people, and she wants us to know what it is like to be on the receiving end of the spells we're going to be wielding soon...

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that research and town running will take us thru the next week. Its summer break in the US so it will be a sort of quiet one.
Which brings us to Easter... I have a PFS convention on Good Fri/Easter Sat, and I imagine Cyn is gonna be tied up with his family.
I'd say it will be two weeks before we get into Harrowstone if current trends continue BUUUUT we should all be refreshed when we do get back to it and raring to go.

I can't take the suspense! I've refreshed the thread about 500 times :-)
Sorry! Bit of a stressful weekend, as it turns out. We should be right for a post tonight my time, around 9-10 hours from now. I have most of it mapped out...I just can't get a block of time to get it written. : \

I am working on a Raj post... but it could be a long one and my time isn't my own currently.

I agree with all of those except for one thing--the scroll of detect undead that is listed under the lesser restoration potions is, I believe, divine. As Flori has the arcane detect undead scroll anyway, I think Walter or I should have the divine detect undead.
Flori, do you want to take the haunt siphons and be the exorcist?

Hey folks. I am in a training course today, so won't be able to do much (if anything) in the way of updates--unless I surreptitiously type away on my phone. There are only three of us in the room though, so that's highly unlikely. ; )
We should be able to resume normal service tonight, in around 13-14 hours from now.
Hope you all had a great weekend!
