We may as well start at the top and work down so the large room with the hole would be my vote.

Sounds good

Whew! I finally caught up reading the whole thread up until now.

I did find out what the "abyssal book" is - it came from a room where things were floating around, and was discovered as this:

The book is evil, however, with no aura which would indicate any kind of active magical effect. The book you found floating in the spherical chamber is a well-thumbed tome all about the worship of Lamashtu. It reads like a bestiary of especially horrific and cruel monsters, focusing on how they kill, but is also a religious text.

So it might be a good reference guide... although, it may also no longer matter.

On the loot front, Lleidr repeatedly asked for the scroll of burning hands, but I didn't see any response (I think Selia 1 disappeared around then). So Selia will give that scroll to Lleidr.

Nice work! If you're interested you could probably sell the book .. it does have value. Anyone want to do an Appraise check?

Thanks, Selia! Finally Lleidr can vastly increase the number of s'mores he can make at one time!

Appraise: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

The book is worth about 100 gp.

FYI - got a vacation coming up in April, where I'll be offline an entire week: 4/11 through 4/18.

been a long day, guys. I'll get an update up later on Saturday. My apologies for the delay.

Zilt, I see Hakak's token on the map. Is that halfling tosser still around?

Also, not to get ahead of searching this seemingly dead end lair, I was looking at the map Thistletop First Underground Level. Does that unrevealed 10x10 area west of D10 look like a possible secret room? Before we head on down to the second level, could we head over there to check for secret doors?

Yes, Hakak the character is still with us, although I'm pretty sure the player has abandoned us.

So I had a real-life random encounter this past weekend. I did a day hike at a swampy national forest, and must have been one of the first people of the day to walk past this particular area.

I was a few miles beyond the park entrance/visitor center and passed some thick brush on the side of the trail. There was a sound in the underbrush, which at first, I took to be a squirrel. But it was too heavy-sounding for something so small. Then, I heard it again, but saw nothing. So I took another few steps, and something burst out of the brush, from the side opposite me.

After another second or two, I could make out a shape. At first, I thought it was maybe a bear. The shape at this point was far away from me, and was running really fast. The shape's movement, though, was wrong for a bear. It was actually galloping. It was a feral pig, and it looked as big as a sofa!

Did you get an attack of oppertunity?

No, he didn't start the encounter within melee range. Otherwise, I would have whacked him with my Backpack of Granola Bars & Water Bottles + 1.

His lair treasure was unimpressive.

Dude, you're at least a mid-level nerd. What're you doing adventuring without a party or some mercenaries? :) also, congrats on not getting gored!

Everyone, I"m feeling under the weather. I'll post an update Saturday. Sorry for the delay.

Hope you're feeling better soon, DM!

As someone coming over a 3 day yuck-fest, I wish you best of health, man!

sorry guys ... it's been a long weekend. i'll update either tonight or first thing tomorrow.

I just put out an update. Sorry again for taking so long .. I was pretty miserable all weekend, but am starting to feel better now.

Congrats on wrapping up the first volume of Rise of the Runelords! In addition to your newly found loot, there's also the promised reward you each get from the Mayor.

I'm going out of town this weekend. I'll post an update again on Monday. Assuming you're going back to Sandpoint, tell me of anything in particular you'd like to do or perhaps someone you want to speak with after your return.

I owe a Ned 200gp. Will take that out of my share... Incidently anyone gonna tally loot? I helped last time as did Lliedr

I don't mind helping figure out loot as soon as we can get some stuff appraised.

I think we're going to need to get a post per day from each player. Right now, you all are at a decision point: explore Thistletop further or return to town.

I'd like to update you with goings on in town or with the result of dropping into that hole again, but I don't know what the party's doing. So, put a post in Gameplay; even if your character doesn't have a specific thing he/she can be doing, you can let us know what you're thinking or you can say which direction you think the party should take.

I'm starting to lose hope we'll ever wrap up this final encounter. It looks like new Jubrayl has dropped already.

Instead of waiting, I'm going to go ahead and give Jubrayl an action so we can get this moving again.

I don't think this game is a good fit for me; so I am going to drop it. Have fun gaming everyone.

Players, welcome to Level 9.

Happy April Fools, everyone.

No, I'm not planning a TPK, and once you guys surmount the terrain challenges here, I'm sure you'll dispatch your enemy(s) very quickly.

Since both Hakak and Jub failed their Swim checks by a huge margin and since they're both abandoned PCs, it's an opportune time to tidy things up a bit. The game should start to move a lot faster now, too, since we only need 4 player responses to keep the flow going.

Did they go swimming with all their equipment on? I wonder how deep it is...

Your DM is really tired tonight. I'll update in the morning.

Happy Easter! In a few moments, I expect to be a very Happy Eater. In-laws are coming over for a large turkey dinner, and I wish they'd hurry it up.

I'm going to be offline from 4/10 through 4/18 for a family vacation. Not to rush you, but we're at the end of the first part of Rise of the Runelords. Can you guys give me a couple of Swim and Perception checks each, if you're interested in seeing what lies at the bottom of this cave? Then, we'll close the books on this chapter. We can assume that, if they're curious, Nich & Selia join Ned and Lleidr in the cave.

I'd like to get rolling on Part II before I leave.

Selia doesn't jump in, but does summon more dolphins in order to help with the search.

Tomorrow will be busy, but I can probably squeeze in 1 more update before vacation. I'll resume the game on either the 19th or the 20th.

Sounds good

I have totally lost track of the loot at the moment... who has what now?

Lleidr, I hope.

Sent you another PM, Selia.

I'll try to get a treasure list compiled during my lunch break today, but it'll more likely be after work before I finish it.

Well, that wasn't so hard. Starting with when we went back to Thistletop, I show we gathered:

From the tentamort lair:

magical hide armor, id'd as +1
a masterwork shortbow

From the giant crab room:

3500 sp
630 gp
40 gems (not yet appraised)
jade amulet (magical, unidentified)
this room also has the giant gold helmet that we weren't sure how to move

From the bunyip's cave:

100 gp
deep green spinel (not yet appraised)
violet garnet in a rusted kukri pommel (not yet appraised)
3 arrows (magical, unidentified)
bone wand (magical, unidentified)

From the mayor:

leather pouch of coins for each of us, amount not yet specified

Lastly, it's a little morbid, but what're we wanting to do with the gear and treasure on Hakak and Jubrayl's bodies? I'm not 100% sure what they had on them.

8th lvl Halfling (Rogue 6/Sorcerer 2); 22, 2'10", 32#; Str 8, Dex 20, Con 13, Int 8, Wis 9, Cha 16; AC: 21 (touch 17, ff n/a); hp 64; Initiative +5

Regarding the above, when we first looted them, Lleidr made a very poor appraisal roll on the first of the 40 gems and a pretty good spellcraft roll to id the jade amulet, but there wasn't any result that I could find.

With some free time, he'd like to work on getting all the gems, including the spinel and the garnet, appraised and exchanged for coins for easier splitting. He'd also like to work with Selia and Nich to ID the magic items as quickly as possible so we can decide what to do with them.

Once we have some gp values, we can get around to splitting the treasure.

As for the big gold mask, Lleidr is interested in making a bargain with the sage who was asking about the ruins under Thistletop. If he'll provide a Reduce Item scroll to use on the mask, Lleidr will escort him down into the ruins and even help haul out some crockery or etchings or whatever the old guy wants, up to a wagon load, as long as he provides the wagon and horse.

Female Asimar Bard 2/Monk 2 | HP ?/? | AC 18; T 18; FF 14 | CMD 18 | F +3 R +9 W +8 | Init +4 | Perc +9 | Active: None

Sounds like we can at least take a few hours to do the appraise and spellcraft checks.

8th lvl Halfling (Rogue 6/Sorcerer 2); 22, 2'10", 32#; Str 8, Dex 20, Con 13, Int 8, Wis 9, Cha 16; AC: 21 (touch 17, ff n/a); hp 64; Initiative +5

+1 hide armor > 1015 gp
masterwork shortbow > 330 gp
3500 sp > 350 gp + 630 gp + 100 gp = 1080 gp

Well guys, I will be back online, most likely on the 19th. Take care and good gaming!
