Yet Another ... Rise of the Runelords PBP

Starting in the sleepy coastal town of Sandpoint, danger lurks.

Welcome back - hope your vacation was nice!

Yeah, it was fun. Exhausting but fun. We're on the east coast, and decided to do a trip 'out west'. So we visited Zion Canyon for a few days then flew to LA, and stayed in Anaheim across the street from Disneyland. My oldest kid and I did a day at Star Wars Celebration, and we also all spent a couple of days at the 2 Disney parks.

Nice :-)

Hey Zilt, when you have the chance, can we wrap up the identifying/selling of the loot from our last haul?

Yes, we've got a bit of downtime. Do you have a list of items that are in question?

Identify is a real pain in this game, and it's almost not worth calculating the DC for magic items since I'm not strictly tracking time. You can take 20 on this check, right? I think that we should houserule that if you're adding ranks in Spellcraft each time you level and if we have a free day in game time, the check succeeds.

From some earlier posts...

From the tentamort lair:

magical hide armor, id'd as +1
a masterwork shortbow

From the giant crab room:

3500 sp
630 gp
40 gems (not yet appraised)
jade amulet (magical, unidentified)
this room also has the giant gold helmet that we weren't sure how to move

From the bunyip's cave:

100 gp
deep green spinel (not yet appraised)
violet garnet in a rusted kukri pommel (not yet appraised)
3 arrows (magical, unidentified)
bone wand (magical, unidentified)

From the mayor:

leather pouch of coins for each of us, amount not yet specified

Lastly, it's a little morbid, but what're we wanting to do with the gear and treasure on Hakak and Jubrayl's bodies? I'm not 100% sure what they had on them

As for the big gold mask, Lleidr is interested in making a bargain with the sage who was asking about the ruins under Thistletop. If he'll provide a Reduce Item scroll to use on the mask, Lleidr will escort him down into the ruins and even help haul out some crockery or etchings or whatever the old guy wants, up to a wagon load, as long as he provides the wagon and horse.

+1 hide armor > 1015 gp
masterwork shortbow > 330 gp
3500 sp > 350 gp + 630 gp + 100 gp = 1080 gp

tentamort:
40 gems (not yet appraised) : 10 gp each
jade amulet (magical, unidentified) : amulet of natural armor +1
giant gold helmet: 3000 gp if you can haul it out of that room

bunyip:
deep green spinel (not yet appraised) : 100 gp
violet garnet in a rusted kukri pommel (not yet appraised) : 500 gp
3 arrows (magical, unidentified) : arrows +1
bone wand (magical, unidentified): wand of shield (9 charges)

the reward from the mayor was 350 gp each

If you look at the Characters tab, you should be able to select Jubrayl and Hakak's sheets and view their equipment.

As far as getting a spell from the sage living in Sandpoint, stay tuned to when/if you get back there.

8th lvl Halfling (Rogue 6/Sorcerer 2); 22, 2'10", 32#; Str 8, Dex 20, Con 13, Int 8, Wis 9, Cha 16; AC: 21 (touch 17, ff n/a); hp 64; Initiative +5

Hola all - sorry for the long delay posting. 50+ hrs at work/beautiful weather for yard work/7th anniversary with the partner/Age of Ultron have all added up to eat all my free time. But finally got a minute to go over Zilt's treasure info and came up with:

hide armor +1: 1015 gp
masterwork shortbow: 330 gp
3500 sp: 350 gp
630 gp: 630 gp
40 gems @ 10 gp each: 400 gp
amulet of natural armor +1: 2000 gp
[giant gold helmet: 3000 gp]
100 gp: 100 gp
deep green spinel: 100 gp
violet garnet: 500 gp
3 arrows +1 @ 40 gp each: 120 gp
wand of shield (9 charges): 135 gp
reward from mayor: 350 each

Assuming we sell everything and leaving out the helmet til we actually recover it, that totals up to 5680 gp, divided 4 ways equals 1420 gp each.

I looked over Jub's and Hakak's character sheets quickly, but didn't get a chance to tally/price their equipment. Plus I'm not sure all the treasure they've received during the game was listed. I'll review some earlier treasure-related posts and see if I can get a more accurate list of their sellable items.

Maybe let Selia have the amulet of natural armour? It will impact the shares but she's deserving of a magic item.

I'm down with that. Also, I kinda figured Ned would interested in the +1 arrows?

Unfortunately, got home later than expected and didn't have time to double check our lost companions' treasures tonight.

Female Asimar Bard 2/Monk 2 | HP ?/? | AC 18; T 18; FF 14 | CMD 18 | F +3 R +9 W +8 | Init +4 | Perc +9 | Active: None

Actually, if we just "purchase" from ou share, I will put the 1420 towards that 2000, and I have 974 gold now, so I will contribut another 580 to the pot. Then Selia get's the amulet, but everyone else gets their 1420 gold share. Does that work?

Init +2|AC15(17)/Touch10/Flatfoot15|CMD 12||HP 13[13]| Fort:+4 ;Ref:+0 ;Wil:+5|Percept +9/Sense Motive +9. Longsword +10 1d8+4 CMB +6 Channel (4d6) l 0/[3] Male Half Varisian Human Cleric of Iomadae/1 (Favoured Class)

If thats how you want to do it (which is the numerically fairest way) then we can but I think that as everyone else got items without putting into the pot to date the least we can do is give you this one.

If we work well together (and we do) I think that magic item assignment will work out just fine...

Agreed!

OK - I am happy either way. Just glad to have some extra defense!

Happy for you to have it - you've been a massive lynch pin in keeping us alive

8th lvl Halfling (Rogue 6/Sorcerer 2); 22, 2'10", 32#; Str 8, Dex 20, Con 13, Int 8, Wis 9, Cha 16; AC: 21 (touch 17, ff n/a); hp 64; Initiative +5

So I'll take out the value of the amulet. Ned, are you claiming the arrows +1?

Female Asimar Bard 2/Monk 2 | HP ?/? | AC 18; T 18; FF 14 | CMD 18 | F +3 R +9 W +8 | Init +4 | Perc +9 | Active: None

Might as well keep them, right?

Ranger (guide) 8| AC 18(22) | HP 86/86

Sure

Yeah Ned should keep em

8th lvl Halfling (Rogue 6/Sorcerer 2); 22, 2'10", 32#; Str 8, Dex 20, Con 13, Int 8, Wis 9, Cha 16; AC: 21 (touch 17, ff n/a); hp 64; Initiative +5

OK, so taking out the amulet and the arrows, the new total is 3560 gp. Divided 4 ways, each share is 890 gp.

Also, I'll admit that with this and that and everything else, I'm just too damned burned out to try and review Jub and Hakak's treasure. If someone else wants to figure out what magic and cash they had on 'em, cool, I'll add it in, but otherwise, let it go in the ground with them. I don't see what difference it makes at this point.

Female Asimar Bard 2/Monk 2 | HP ?/? | AC 18; T 18; FF 14 | CMD 18 | F +3 R +9 W +8 | Init +4 | Perc +9 | Active: None

I agree - let's let it go and start a clean slate. Thanks for all the bookkeeping!

I agree Lleidr

Ranger (guide) 8| AC 18(22) | HP 86/86

Ned's going to spend some of his share on a bow upgrade...

Sorry for the delay in putting out an update. I was waiting to see what you wanted to do re: following the paint trail further, and not realizing that Selia recommended talking to Ven.

So, I'm really getting the itch for a live Skype/Maptool game again ... it's been nearly a year for me since I played live. Any of you all have a live game going? Just curious what your other campaigns are like and how they're going.

Grand Lodge

Nah - I just run the one PbP

Ranger (guide) 8| AC 18(22) | HP 86/86

We have a game every Wednesday. But by live I mean face to face across a table. I've never played by Skype.

Wow, we just hit 3000 posts. Congrats! I wonder how we rank as far as long-lived PBP campaigns or games with the biggest number of posts.

grats all

You guys are smack in the middle of a great investigation and I can't take the suspense. Please post more! You can look individually at different areas of the sawmill.

Guys ... how do you put an avatar image on your alias that's different from what's on your main account? And, can you add a custom avatar image?

I'm going to run an old Star Wars adventure from the West End Games era, Black Ice. If you any of you not named Lleidr are interested, then let me know.

link to new game

Lleidr was a player in this a long time ago in a basement far, far away. So, no spoilers please, Mr Arrogant Noble.

Ranger (guide) 8| AC 18(22) | HP 86/86

Select 'my account' at the top of the screen and log in. Click 'edit' beside the avatar then 'change' and select a new avatar

You can't use a custom image as far as I know.

But doesn't that change the avatar for your account, not for the alias specifically?

Zilt, after a couple of decades of my excessive drinking, smoking, and smacking my head on hard surfaces too many times, you think I could spoil this game? I love you confidence in me :)

It changes the image only for the avatar you selected to edit

Well, jump right in Lleidr, if you're interested. It's an oldie, but it's one of my favorites because the author of this adventure threw in plot twists as if he were channeling Timothy Zahn.

Female Asimar Bard 2/Monk 2 | HP ?/? | AC 18; T 18; FF 14 | CMD 18 | F +3 R +9 W +8 | Init +4 | Perc +9 | Active: None

You have to actually create another alias, and then change the icon on that alias.

I think you might have to go to My Account, and edit alias from there.

It's been a super long day today. I'm gonna retire and i'll update in the morning.

Interestingly, the party I originally ran through Rise of the Runelords decided to shoot arrows at any scarecrow ghouls. And, they accidentally killed the innocent lady you've just rescued.

I dont blame them

Grrr ... I just had the 2nd of 5 players drop from my d6 Star Wars game. Any of you interested in taking over for 1 of the 2 PCs?

One's a Brash Pilot, the other is a Gambler-type. I even made up a really neat Star Wars crawl for this adventure.

I don't get why there's so much attrition with PBP. Is it really that difficult to be a player in a PBP?

Lleidr, you really don't remember the Black Ice Star Wars adventure? If you'd like to play, come on over.

Female Asimar Bard 2/Monk 2 | HP ?/? | AC 18; T 18; FF 14 | CMD 18 | F +3 R +9 W +8 | Init +4 | Perc +9 | Active: None

I have never played this - is there a book or online rules or similar that one would need? Brash pilot might be interesting, but I might be a little too noob to do you any good.

d6 Star Wars is rules light relative to Pathfinder. If you click on my name, you should see a link to the 2nd campaign. In that campaign's Discussion tab, there's a link early on to a rules primer along with the character sheets.

The game is literally just beginning, and my guess is that will last about 6 months.

Ranger (guide) 8| AC 18(22) | HP 86/86

I'm enjoying it

Grand Lodge

On the subject of PbPs. I've had two drop from a long running game - the problem is that players need to be committed. I was thankfully able to find two more.

The hard part is finding that commitment. I think its best emphasised in the recruitment phase. I asked for people with a track record of participation in PbPs and it helped. The two who dropped were in game for about 6 months before they left us.

8th lvl Halfling (Rogue 6/Sorcerer 2); 22, 2'10", 32#; Str 8, Dex 20, Con 13, Int 8, Wis 9, Cha 16; AC: 21 (touch 17, ff n/a); hp 64; Initiative +5

LOL man, I can barely remember last week! Thanks very much for the offer, but between this game and a live DnD game, I'm just about out of time I can give over to roleplaying. Stoopid job/house/relationship.

Oooh, live D&D game? Details, please!

I think you guys have a pretty good idea about who is behind these murders and this march of the undead. But, I'm curious what you think may be the motive.
