However, nothing of value is on the ship. If it comes under attack, the crew will push off into the river and escape.

"I'm afraid I agree with Jawhar on this, Torvald. And even if we were present and these people were to attack the boat, would we be in any shape to defend it? We need rest tonight, my friend, not another fight."
(Is the boat big enough to sleep 6? On the trip to Irrisen, we camped on shore every night.)
Jawhar

Regardless of what style of room we get
Jawhar stays up that night monitoring the wounds of Jamir and Craggark, changing dressings as needed and making sure they aren't getting infected.
Jamir: Heal (Healer's Kit): 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 2 = 26
Craggark: Heal (Healer's Kit): 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 2 = 15
That is (barely) sufficient to give each of you 2 HP with an 8-hour rest
Jawhar then collapses on one of the bunks and sleeps a good portion of the day away while entrusting information gathering to the rest of the party.
Everyone is now at full strength. I will leave my spell slots open for the time being

On their way to the Knot Head, the group passes a general store. Jamir signals that he wants to duck inside for a moment. He hands Craggark the rope tied to Nag of Holding's harness, and asks Torvald for a gold piece from the thug boss's pouch.
He is in and out of the shop within a few minutes, and (unless someone else specifically wants to buy something before getting to the inn) the group starts moving again.
At Craggark's questioning look, Jamir holds up a bulging cloth bag.
"Marbles. Also known as the traveler's burglar alarm."
(Absent a persuasive reason not to get the private room with the boss's gold, I think that's what we should do. Also, Jamir was planning to lay down the marbles just inside the door to their room before they slept, but I just saw Jawhar's post about staying up all night to treat his and Craggark's remaining wounds, so he will do that on the second night at the inn instead.)
Once they arrive at the Knot Head and negotiate their rate and are settled into a room, before turning in for the night, Jamir pulls the piece of broken glass out of his pouch and shows it to his comrades. After telling them what it is (although Torvald recognizes it right away), Jamir says,
"I think perhaps we learned something today about how to fight these opponents effectively. My swordsmanship - and I was at the top of my class at the Grand Lodge - is not sufficient to the task. I can hit these bastards, but not even half the time. Craggark, you pack a powerful punch, but your accuracy is no better than mine. Jawhar, we barely had the chance to see how you would fare against them, though you cut the man deeply when you were still upright. But they had no trouble hitting us, did they? We need to even the odds, and I believe that Torvald, my friend, you have shown us the way."
He holds up the shard of glass.
"I do not expect that we have time for you to make more of this terrible fire in a jar, but somewhere in this city there must be an apothecary from whom we can purchase it. You can advise us on what to buy, and how to use it to its most devastating effect."
"Tonight, we rest. Tomorrow, we go shopping! The next day, or at most, the day after that, we uncover the whereabouts of Rognvald Skagni, to save him if we can. Regardless of Skagni's fate, we will find this Hjort Fastaxe and Runa White. And we will obliterate them."

Craggark has been quiet most of the day, puzzling things out in his head.
Pathfinders being hunted in Trollheim? How is that possible? We barely escaped with our lives, and that "boss" got away, likely to recruit further kai raro to come after us. Hjort Fastaxe? Runa White? Do those names ring bells?

The next day, while Jawhar recuperates from his ordeal and then his night taking care of Jamir and Craggark, Jamir spends his time shopping (with Torvald and Craggark, or separately? We could aid each other in checks, but would cover less ground), taking care to make all of his purchases far from both the waterfront and the Knot Head, focusing on Charcoal Valley, Blackravens' Walk, and The Bitters. He tries to spread his purchases among many different merchants, believing that a number of small transactions will draw less attention than would a few large ones, and because it allows him to talk with more people around the city.
With each purchase, Jamir asks one or two discreet questions. In one shop, he might ask if anyone in the area is hiring men with strong arms and backs - accepting with as much good humor as he can the derisive jibes he gets in response. In another, he might mention he heard there was some trouble in the area near Skagni's house, and ask whether there were any rumors about the cause.
If he comes across another halfling in his meandering, and if that halfling seems friendly and not obviously shady, Jamir asks specifically about Runa White and Hjort Fastaxe.
At no time do the words "Pathfinder" or "Skagni" pass his lips.
This time, Jamir does not make up any elaborate stories. The knowledge that two separate parties in Trollheim are hunting Pathfinders has drastically changed the way he views this mission. Everything about this job has become deadly serious.

Young Craggark, I remember your mother. She donated no small sum to a local orphanage. I'm sorry I haven't heard of the individuals you've mentioned. However, go visit Arvida Bergthor at the smiling pig pub, she's there most days and knows much of the goings on in Trollheim...the priest pauses for a second and adds, oh and be sure to buy her a drink, it loosens her tongue! The priest smiles as he departs leaving Craggark to ponder that last part..
note you'll not be able to visit the smiling pig until the next day. Please state who is visiting the smiling pig (how many PCs and who) and what time of day. (pubs typically don't open till mid-day, but some of the more seedy ones open earlier)Also don't read the spoiler until you've decided who will go and when.
Arvida stands at a height of nearly 6-1/2 feet and is skinny as a spear, and her hair is dirty and tousled. Down on her luck, Arvida claims to be writing the greatest saga the Land of the Linnorm Kings has ever known, though she lost her notes in a drinking game a fortnight ago. Arvida is constantly drunk, her speech slurred and
her movements clumsy at best.
Her info is as follows: A dark-haired Chelish woman, family name
of White, has been seen about the market recently. She’s hiring mercenaries and low-life thugs for Gorum-knowswhat. If you’re looking for her to right some wrong, I’d bring a dozen more of you—she was cornered in one of the market’s darkest corners by some of Trollheim’s biggest miscreants, and just when they thought they had gotten the drop on her, she called to her god and blasted them with holy fire. She’s tough, that one, and not someone I’d mess with.
Arvida belches loudly and looks longingly at her empty mug...

After a restful night the group is ready to investigate Skagni's disappearance and the contemptible attempts on their lives. However, the weather is far from co-operative; the temperature dropped over-night and an icy frost with a chill wind hangs over the dreary morning.
BTW will need 3 DC: 15 fort checks against the cold weather while out and about Trollheim. Be sure to record any failures and let me know if you stop investigating for an hour to warm up (otherwise your next check is DC 16 and the one after that is DC 17) your fort checks are made after the first diplomacy/knowledge local check, again after the 3rd diplomacy check and finally after the 5th check..be sure to note any fatigued penalties(-2) in you're rolls if you fail a fort. roll..also please note all non-lethal dmg attained.

Craggark spends the morning pleasantly engaged in religious conversation with....er....himself.
"...but while I do appreciate her stance on bringing the Light to those in darkness, I wonder what Sarenrae says about the role that civilisation plays in keeping the darkness at bay..."
Once Torvald and Jamir return to the Inn, Craggark prepares to leave bolstered by the Endure Elements spell from Jawhar with Torvald.
"Friends, I have a lead that I picked up yesterday from the Desnan priest. A woman by the name of Arvida Bergthor at the Smiling Pig might know of the people whom we seek. I plan on taking Torvald and stopping by there after I run a few errands on this trek of mine. If I do not return before nightfall (and our appointed meeting time here), you might look after me there."
Craggark leaves (pending any dialogue response)to do three things:
- Purchase two potions of healing (CLW) and a pot of smelling salts from a local apothecary
- Ask around at the docks for information on "people asking to know when/if foreigners arrive"
- Head to the Smiling Pig just before the dinner push

Craggark will buy Arvida a drink - and a promise of three more if she forgets that we talked about Runa. He will also lend her 5gp on the promise that she use it to purchase writing supplies again and make good on her words to write that important saga.
"After all, Honourable Bergthor, not everyone who has the favour of the Gods on their side would use that power to blast the flesh off of their foes. Some of us might use it to see economic disadvantage and misfortune corrected."
Diplomacy (for roleplaying sake): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Heading back to the Knot Head by 6pm(ish), Craggark informs the band.
"We need to look for Runa White in the marketplace. She wields some form of godly magics. She's Chelish."

While he tries to be helpful, Torvald's anger at the blatant assault on their persons bleeds through in his speech, and he doesn't win any friends in Trollheim this day. Jamir and Torvald arrive back at The Knot Head before Craggark and Jawhar do, so the first thing they do is go up to their room to check on the chest (I hope it's still there!) and drop off their purchases. They decide to wait downstairs in the common room and have a pint of ale, making sure to sit where between them, they can keep an eye on both the inn's entrance and the stairs up to their room.

While investigating and shopping Jamir and Torvald learn the following, from a very attractive city guards women named Rafarta Rannveig. Rafta finds you and inquires as to what your business is in Trollheim. It seems a couple of the merchants you and Torvald were visiting didn't take kindly to your questions seemly about one of their own. Rafarta meets you outside an establishment towards mid-day and says she's had reports of "Irrisen, spies trying to learn Trollheim's defenses."
Once you explain the situation she looks at you considerately and invites you to one of her favorite restaurants for tea while she's on break. Your impression of this young woman is quite remarkable.
Rafarta is young and strong and, at odds with her profession, quite attractive. She does bear a few small scars on her chin and cheeks, but they seem to only add to her beauty rather than detract from it. Rafarta knows how men react to her—and she hates it. She’s always wanted to serve the people of Trollheim as a protector and guardian, and though women warriors are treated the same as male warriors in Linnorm society, Rafarta still finds it hard to do her job with the leers, stares, and off-hand remarks about her anatomy that are made daily in her presence.

from the post above it seems neither Craggark or Jawhar leave the Inn before Jamir and Torvald return. That's 6pm...(I rolled random dice to see how long it took for his three diplomacy checks..one of which he made)
If I have that right then you can all go to the smiling pig together at 6pm. Torvald and Jamir's actions are set and I will resist ret-coning them as I believe it's been made clear on both discussion and game-play threads that he and Torvald went shopping and investigating the next day.
So when exactly does Craggark and Jawhar leave the Inn and do they leave the chest?
Once Torvald and Jamir return to the Inn, Craggark prepares to leave bolstered by the Endure Elements spell from Jawhar with Torvald.
If Janir and Torvald want to return earlier we can claim they got the info from Rafarta either this night (depending how late you stay out) or the next day. As I'm reading it now Jawhar aided Craggark but I don't know when they left the Inn, Craggark clearly states he waits for Jamir to return, and Jamir believes he returned while Craggark and Jawhar are gone. You all must be living in alternate universes or timelines cause you can't be 3 places at once in most realities. Let me know what is actually happening ok?

At first Torvald's anger at the brazen attack upon them the night before bled through into his speech. Realizing that the wasn't helping matters, the alchemist excuses himself and stands outside a moment, taking deep breaths and trying to focus his thoughts. I believe we settled it in the discussion thread, as summarized by Jawhar:
It appears to be:
Jamir and Torvald go out in the morning/afternoon while Jawhar sleeps and Craggark guard.
Mid-afternoon Craggark and Jawhar head over to see Arvida.
Everyone returns to the inn around 6 PM for dinner/planning.
Edit: there were a number of posts after that, fleshing out the details. The chest is locked in the room for the relatively brief period between Craggark and Jawhar's departure and Jamir and Torvald's return.

During the party's preparations at The Knot Head, Jamir reviews his purchases with the group and passes out the items he is loaning to others.
Posting this now while I have a short break; spoilering only to avoid a wall of text.
"Use this with Craggark's healing wand, and you might still have time to get close enough to one of us to cast it right away."
"Jawhar, the other sheath is for you. As with Torvald, if you will wear it with my wand of protection from evil, you will be able to get to it faster. The effects last only briefly (one minute), but they can be quite powerful. Please use it on as many of us as you can, as often as you deem necessary, subject of course to your own plans during battle."
Jamir points to the scroll of ant haul. "My fighting style depends on me not being weighed down, but I also need to prepare differently for our coming battles. I obtained this scroll from the same Desnan priestess who directed us to this establishment, in exchange for a modest donation. She told me that it would allow me to carry three times as much as I usually can, without noticing the encumbrance. Please use this scroll on me when we believe we are nearing the engagement with our foes. It will last for two hours, which should be more than ample time to do what is needful."
| lucklesshero |
While Jamir an Torvald are Out investigating and shopping; Jawhar sleeps while Craggark watches over him. About mid-day Jawhar wakes and both he and Craggark eat a quick bite before heading over to the smilling pig. After about 45 minutes Craggark soon realizes Arvida has nothing more to offer. Both he and Jawhar continue to investigate for several more hours before returning to the knot head, having discovered little else about their attackers or Skagni's disappearance.
It's now dinner time you're all at the knot head eating some basic but hearty stew. The sun is setting so most of the merchants are closed. However, several pubs and taverns will remain open until midnight or later. Do you risk leaving the chest alone again? Or do you investigate more tonight at the pubs and waterfront dives?
Jawhar I'll assume you used another charge of the wand of endure elements for yourself? If not I need 2 fort saves from you.

While enjoying dinner in their private room, Jawhar recaps what they have learned so far.
"So, we have learned that Runa is a red-haired Chelaxian who frequents the marketplace. She should stick out in Trollheim almost as much as, well, us...".
She appears to be a mercenary hiring agent.
Hjort is an Ulfen with a serious grudge that may or may not be valid. He won't stick out as much. However, if we see Runa talking with an Ulfen that should be a good signal to turn around and walk the other way.
We have learned nothing about Skagni.
Runa seems like the logical next step. She is a businesswoman who was hired to post men outside of Skagni's house. We aren't at Skagni's house anymore, so she shouldn't have any interest in us, professionally.
She also seemed interested in talking as long as it didn't interfere with her contract.
Seeing how bad the four of us stick out in this town, we should anticipate that Runa's agents will have seen us and followed us to this inn. Should we risk leaving the chest unguarded anymore?
Is the marketplace open at this time of night? We might need to proceed there in the morning.
Can anyone think of any other avenues of research to pursue before trying to meet with Runa?"
In response to the offered equipment:

Craggark corrects Jawhar: "Runa White is DARK-haired, per Arvida. Not red-haired."
He burps after his second plate of stew and hoists a mug with a thoughtful look.
"I think we head to the marketplace tomorrow and start asking around after Runa White. Hjort sounds like he's "from the coast", but it doesn't sound like anyone knows where he is." Here, his voice grows quieter. "As far as what's upstairs, I say we leave it under lock and key with some extra funds for the innkeeper as insurance that it stays that way until we all come back."
Craggark thinks about Hjort and his origins.
Knowledge Local: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 What does "from the coast" mean?
"It also sounds like someone has framed the Pathfinders, if Hjort is angry at us for slaughtering his people. That just doesn't sound like something Pathfinders would be in to."
I hope.
"Jamir, I'll take your second flask of alchemist's fire, and with my thanks. Also, people, I purchased two potions of healing and a pot of that marvellous concoction that Jamir used to wake people up!" The frostkin shows off his newly-purchased pot of smelling salts.

Jamir listens to Jawhar's proposal, then lays out the scraps of paper they found in the thug boss's pouch.
"Jawhar, I agree that Runa must be our first target, if only because we have some idea where to find her, but none as to Hjort. But I do not believe for a moment that she is just a businesswoman interested in talk."
Jamir points first to the note signed by Hjort Frostaxe. "It was Hjort, not Runa, who sent men to watch over the ruins of Skagni's home."
He gestures next to the note signed by Runa White. "Runa says 'Do as Hjort instructed, but do one thing more for me' - capture a Pathfinder for her. If she were simply the agent for a band of mercenaries, she would not give the client's note to the thugs she manages and then give them a separate note with different directions. No, I believe that Hjort hired the man who dropped this pouch - who himself led a small band of mercenaries - and that man then made a separate arrangement with Runa White in the hope of being paid twice for the same job. Based on these notes and the information we have obtained today, I believe that Runa must know about Hjort, but Hjort probably does not know of Runa's involvement in this affair. Runa cares nothing for the lives of Pathfinders - else she would have warned us of the attack - but does want information before all of us are killed. Perhaps she knows something of our missing Mr. Skagni, and seeks the contents of our chest?"
He pauses a moment to gather his thoughts.
"Craggark, I agree - I should hope that the Society was not involved in the slaughter of Hjort's people, if such an event truly occurred, and is not a story told to slander the Society or the product of a deluded mind. Whatever the truth, the threat posed by Hjort is direct, but simple, and should be simply - and violently - dealt with. The threat posed by Runa, however, is complex, unknown, and potentially more serious."
"I agree we must pursue her first. Do we wait until morning, or strike tonight? Torvald, we have heard Jawhar's opinion, and Craggark's. What say you?"
Torvald Stonecask
|
"Speed is of the essence, I believe. The longer we tarry, the less likely we are to rescue Skagni in time--assuming he is not already deceased. We should move tonight, but where? Do we know where to find this Runa White?"
Jawhar
|
"Jamir, you make good points.
This may be two completely separate contracts taken by the same group.
So, what is our strategy going to be with Runa? Are we going to try to talk with her or straight up attack?
Torvald, all we know is that she is often in the marketplace. It won't hurt us to go over to the marketplace tonight. Even if it is shut down and she isn't there, it will give us a chance to scout the location."
Craggark
|
"I think Runa sounds like a kidnapper and a villain. I would prefer not to parlay with such a criminal. I think we should assume her intentions are evil, and that force will be necessary. I'm ok with scouting the marketplace at night, but those of you who can't see so well at night might be hindered."
Jawhar
|
"Runa sounds like a formidable spellcaster. If she also has troop support, we will be in trouble.
I could go back to the Desnan cleric to purchase a scroll of Silence that could take her spellcasting out of the fight, if we choose to go that route.
However, if we go in attacking first, we may never learn the location of Mister Scagni."
Jamir "Hamstring" Montajay
|
Pacing the length of the room, Jamir is agitated and clearly eager for a fight. After a deep breath, though, he calms himself down.
”I agree that she is a kidnapper and villain, and that she is our enemy. But if we can learn something by observation, it may make the inevitable fight easier. As long as we all understand that she needs to be removed as a threat before we leave Trollheim, I agree with Jawhar’s view.”
Trollheim is a large city - would the marketplace area be lit at night? If there is a moon, Jamir will be fine without anything more, but Jawhar will need some artificial light. Jamir has a sunrod the group can bring along.

What does "from the coast" mean?
after a few hours mulling it over ..Craggark recalls hearing something about the Blood Ram tribe from the Island of Orthhost, in the Broken Bay region of the Linnorm Kings. You remember hearing rumors about this tribe back in Karlgrad during your frequent nights out.The story went something like the entire village virtually disappeared. Supposedly wiped out by invaders that possessed magic and other deadly means. You had heard however, that there were no survivors.
| lucklesshero |
Craggark knows that there are plenty of Inns and taverns surrounding the Market place. Including a few that are so rough and notorious that, even the guard doesn't visit them without a full squad of heavily armed soldiers. It's agreed that, it's in your best interest, to stick to the taverns and pubs that you're not likely to get in a fight for now.
The market area has a few oil lanterns lit at night. The little spaces and alleys between stalls is dark and most of the rest of the market is shaded, despite the eerie glow of street lamps. However, everyone is able to navigate without use of torch or lantern. There are even a few stalls open after dark. Most are selling some type of street food, caribou meat on a spit, oven baked yam and the like. However, there's one or two stands selling medicinal healing concoctions like soothe syrup still open. The occupants of these stands are inevitably huddled around small wood burning ovens or brazers until you approach their stand. They get irritated when you approach and interrupt their warming ritual but, never the less engage with you, hoping to make a sell.
The bars you visit seem to be much of the same. Most people want to mind their own business and not be bothered. However, one or two people seem more affable.
let me know how you proceed from here. I'll assume since it wasn't settled: you didn't take the time to hire a guard for outside your room door. If you want to ret-con that you do hire the guard the Inn keeper is quite helpful and one arrives within an hour (pay core rule book price). If you break up your group let me know how. Craggark has already pre-rolled his diplomacy for this. Others can aid him or separate and check out other inns/stalls and make their own diplomacy checks. The meta conditions outside in the market area are difficult terrain( slippery icy cobble stone streets) and everything beyond 5ft has cover (20% miss) because of darkness and the relative ineffectiveness of the gas street lanterns.
so are you guys spreading out over the wide area of the market place? Two by Two? Or sticking together?
Torvald Stonecask

Torvald will pay the guard cost out-of-pocket, and will be insistent that the group should stick together. With his darkvision he'll also be keeping his head on a swivel--does the 20% miss chance apply to him?

nope anyone with dark vision can see normal (60ft) and characters with low light vision can see up to 10ft before the shadowy illumination takes effect.
Jamir "Hamstring" Montajay

After the guard arrives, the group heads out to the market, deciding to stick together.
(If cleats would help with the ice without being a hassle going in and out of bars, Jamir will wear his.)
Jamir aids Craggark's attempts at diplomacy, playing the funny little sidekick when necessary, otherwise striking an earnest, serious tone.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
ugh, I see I'm back to normal dice-rolling.
Jawhar

Yes, it seems like Craggark should lead the information gathering
Jawhar attempts to look tough and attempts to provide useful interjections depending on the strategy Craggark is attempting to use.
If we are making it seem as if we are for hire, he will talk up his abilities as a combat healer. If we are making it seem as if we want to do the hiring, he will talk about how we were wronged by vile thugs.
If we are simply shopping, he will dicker over the available items before passing on the poor selection available.
Everyone will have a +1 for Touch of Glory.
Diplomacy AA: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 1 = 11
Diplomacy AA: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 = 13
Diplomacy AA: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 1 = 17

At night while going through many of the taverns, dance halls, and even a brothel or two...you stir up a little more information. Kadlin Helge a sword arm for hire is watching over another group of warriors she refers to only as her men. While they are all drunk in the midst of revelry, she remains sober, seemly guarding over them. She is a hulking, heavily muscled woman of middling years with slightly graying hair and an enormous greatsword strapped to her back. She is serious, stalwart, and mentally tough. She does not seemed amused by silly behavior and appreciates that someone is asking her a serious question.
“Yeah, I know those two. They approached my friends and me and offered us a ridiculous sum to work for them. No way was I going to work for a washed-up Ulfen warrior and a foreign she-devil from the south. Hjort’s eyes told all the story I needed to know: he wasn’t doing
whatever he was doing for profit—he was doing it for revenge. That business has only one path, and it leads straight to Pharasma’s ample bosom. And Runa? Well, she’s a foreigner, ain’t she?”
She spits as she says the last sentence and then quickly looks at Jawhar and says, no offence meant....A couple other mercenaries have stories similar to Kaldin's. However, it's getting late. All the stalls have closed up in the market and the establishment you're in now has just made last call. It's about half past midnight. The only establishments that remain open this long are the notoriously seedy and violent ones.
Your group huddles in the corner before heading out of your current location. Someone speaks up, do we continue to investigate tonight? Or do we return in the morning?
Jawhar
|
"I don't like the idea of getting into a bar fight here. I vote to return in the morning and attempt to confront Runa.
It sounds like they might be working together, though, so we should be ready for anything."
Jamir "Hamstring" Montajay
|
Jamir nods. "I agree, Jawhar. Unless we see that one thug who got away, or someone who looks like the descriptions we have of this Runa and Hjort, we should start our hunt in earnest in the morning."
Whenever the party does go back to the inn, Jamir suggests that, despite the lock on the room, they maintain watches overnight as they would in camp.
Craggark
|
Craggark agrees to cease investigations tonite and head back to the inn.
Sorry, people. Big day at work. I'll be able to post later tonite (in about 8-9hrs), but press on without me actively controlling Craggark for today until then.

Assuming you spam endure elements again when you begin investigating in the market area again in the morning. If not need two fort saves to resit the cold from everyone who doesn't have endure elements. Let me know any special preparations before you leave the knot head.
After several hours of fruitless investigation in the restraunts and the remaining non-violent pubs you start asking questions at the various stalls that spread throughout the commons and sprawl through the allyways that inter-connect with the market. It is while passing through one of these alleys that you stuble upon a local sword smith that shouts out to Jamir as you pass, Hey, little one! I'll run a stone across that blade for free if you and your companions take a look at my wares! He seems conginal enough so you take a break for a moment and let the smith sharben your blade (+1dmg on first hit).
Soon you learn his name and strike up a conversation. Eventually you work around to the topic of your investigation. Ludin is an old man with a thick, well-trimmed gray beard and a shiny bald head. His body is covered in dozens of sheaths and scabbards of various sizes, all filled with various knives, daggers, and shortswords, and he moves more like a winter wolf and less like a man of many years. Ludin is quick to laugh, quick to brag, and quick to display and discuss the fine craftsmanship of his many blades, all made by him.
Can’t say as I remember the name of the place, but when they tried to hire my cousin, they told him to meet them at some hole in the market. You’d best do your poking around there and stop pestering the peaceful folk of Trollheim before they decide to yank your entrails out from your mouth and strangle you with them. Not that your not a tough group but, Trollheim has a way of making widows of people who ask too many questions. He says, this last part with sincere belief and reverence.
Once you've answered all the questions poised in the first out of character section of this post you may read the spoiler.
It appears this down-on-his-luck gnome has been making his living selling snacks and useful herbal remedies to, the people that frequent the bars and taverns, of the market district. Thorngrin Brightbeard, is who he introduces himself as. Thorgrin appears sick and and coughs a little during your engagement with him.The gnome relays a sad story of, the outcast he has been in Trollheim for nearly a year, and though he dreams of leaving, the harsh weather always seems to prevent that from happening. As a result, he claims to know a great deal about the locals, especially anyone residing or working in the market. Despite all this, he seems somewhat merry and curious, So what brings you gentlemen to the market here on this brisk cool day? If it's soothe syrup you're looking for, you are in luck! I've got just what ya need and at a good price! He says with a smile looking expectantly at all the party members.

Let's hire another guard for the room. This time, before the group leaves, Jamir also spreads one of his bags of marbles on the floor immediately inside the room, so that they will hopefully catch anyone who gets in past the guard. Jamir had already sharpened his rapier the night before, but is happy to let the man do so again as a way to start a conversation. I assume we are using the endure elements wand again as well.
Jawhar
|
Before Jawhar leaves the marketplace, he will find one of the street children.
"Child, take this silver coin and get yourself something warm to eat.
If you would like to earn another two, we will be back here around lunchtime tomorrow. There is an outsider who has been hanging around the marketplace attempting to hire local warriors and sending them to their deaths.
Find which hole she frequents and when we can expect to find her there. We will usher her out of town and leave ourselves soon after."
Yes, four more charges from the wand. Spells will be Cause Fear, Bless, and Shield of Faith

Jamir reaches into his pouch, and realizes that after his anger-fueled shopping of the day before, it is nearly empty. He pulls out his last platinum coin, and offers it to the gnome.
"Unfortunately, my current circumstances do not allow me to purchase soothe syrup today. I would be pleased to buy a pouch of alchemist's kindness, however, if you have some - I may have been praying a bit too zealously at Cayden's altar last night, if you understand my meaning. Consider the rest as payment for the value of your time, if you would join for a cup of tea and tell us a bit about other outsiders you might have noticed around the marketplace."

Thorngrin's eyes immediately light up at the sight of the sight of the platinum. He grabs a handful of academical kindness (5) and shoves them in your hand while receiving the offered platinum piece. Thank you kind sir! He says with a flourish and exaggerated bow. After, a few pleasantries Thorngrin opens up about what he knows.
“Hjort and Runa, you say? Yeah, I know ‘em. I offer my wares every night down at the Horned Helm, and they’ve been there for weeks—months maybe. I tell ya, that Hjort can throw a punch, and don’t get Runa started about religion—she’s likely to talk about it long enough it starts a fight and the way she ends fights ain’t fair, ain’t right, and just ain’t normal. Runa is a dark-haired woman from Cheliax, and Hjort is a large brute with red hair, a
red beard, and a scar across his left cheek.” He is excited as he relays this information. But beware! The horned helm is not for the faint of heart!
Craggark knows that the Horned Helm is dangerous and that rarely a week goes by without someone finding their end on the edge of a knife or with their brains smashed in by a chair. The rest of you have passed it at least once or twice during your investigation. There always seems to be a loud ruckus going on inside.

Child looks suspiciously at Jawhar and snatches the coin from his hand. He backs away cautiously then turns suddenly laughing, Thanks Mr.! He says as he runs off into an alley.
