Finally got around to reading the Investigator preview on the blog... now I want to make a Numerian Sleuth.

DM Nightbringer |

I forgot how much natural healing sucked. 1hp/class level, maybe hit die and that's it. A common house rule is to add con modifier which makes sense.
I don't mind people adding their con modifier.
The party also has several people with solid Heal skills. Long term care is DC 15 and doubles natural healing.

DM Nightbringer |

I still have a monicker of faith when it comes to the rogue class. Nothing really beats that sneak dice, really, as far as anything is concerned. I like to build my rogues with reach weapons based on AoO's with a longspear.
I agree.
A good player can make the class work, but more frequently people are abandoning it for easier to play classes.

Maxwell Lionheart |

That being said I do have a serious man-crush on the slayer class for just the same reason. Haha. Rogues are still better skill monkeys and all-rounders and can be blended to be rather great, though. Honestly if we weren't going for such high optimization, I think the game would be rather wondrous considering. Everyone wants massive chances to hit enemies, and falcatas, when certain weapons don't ever even get glanced at.
If I picked shortspear as a weapon on a fighter I'd get laughed at.

Verim Pharae |

You can use any weapon with any class that can make the weapon good.. its just when you put it on a class that doesn't when the issue arrives. And with Rogue, if your talking abut Sneak dice... Alchemist kinda does that too as well as a myriad of other classes. Rogue is kinda like monk... except most of the monk stuff at least cannot be copied. They both require more effort than even the other base classes.

Maxwell Lionheart |

We're thinking too much from a damage perspective, though. Vivisectionist has a handful of things that the rogue can't use, along with potions and the like, and rogues have a plethora of other things that involve stealth and subterfuge.
Personally I try to make a character based on the events that unfold in game, and Maxwell isn't particularly different. I honestly have no idea what I'm going to do with him being he's a blend of "I hit things" and "I'm rather wise" so I could go with the cleric bit, or go with a champion type set up. I wanted to make him tough but I believe Verim is gonna go down that road, but Mythic Toughness is something I'm most definitely looking at, as well as Mythic Power Attack (Which I'll be taking at my first opportunity.)
Power attack is on my list of feats to gain asap, but I don't have +1 bab yet (Atleast, not naturally. Warpriests have maximum bab with their weapon of choice, but it isn't that way with other weapons, and the circumstances don't let him get things like that, at the moment.)
I like Maxwell, even if he is a brooder. He's different than the rest of the holier-than-though types that usually go in Wrath of the Righteous, and probably will make a poor decision eventually. For example he didn't give a damn whether Horgus died or not and stayed behind with Mia who he assumes is a child, out of respect for his own dead family.
Unless someone tells him he's not going to notice, either. Just the same, unless someone asks for it, he's not rolling any heal checks for folks either, despite being decent at them.
With regards, however, I'm actually in the middle of building an entire adventure path, and I must say that I found a nice groove as I went about making characters. You have the unoptimized all-rounders, the focused people, and then the hideously optimized Awakened Iron Golem who took levels in fighter and protects a tomb religiously, skewering the kobold sorcerer on the first turn with a 20 foot longspear that he attacked with using lunge from 25 feet away. (The spear was also Shocking and Seeking) They fortunately had raise dead on hand...
Regardless, there need to be folks that don't do anything in particular and just have ALL of the save based feats, like Lightning reflexes, Great Fortitude, and Iron Will with the second levels of those. When you start looking at pathfinder like a point and click optimization game, you lose some of the magic, so I never really get too deep into "This class is better" arguments, and just make them as strong as they can be when the situation demands a good, hard battle.
I also almost never throw just one enemy at a time, especially if there are 6 players, unless it's something preposterous like a dragon.

Verim Pharae |

Thats the thing, I wasnt talking about just damage but what you mentioned was Sneak Attack Damage which other classes DID have. We both know it is far more than a handful when it comes to Alchemists in general. Their abilities are so fun that people use feats to get MORE of them, rarely said of Rogues *Special case with things like.. Black market Connections and Terrain Mastery*
My characters are generally made conceptually and just require I fit the Mechanics to them. Verim is the Sentinel-Type. His main thing is, cheesily as it sounds, "I fight for my friends". He is all about being the Stalwart Shield, Deflecting attacks from allies, taking blow after blow, and bringing the pain back if necessary. Verim doesn't need to do anything to make himself do damage as that is inherent in his class. Things that have had my eye are Mythic Combat Reflexes, Shield Focus and the Like. The Guardian abilities in general. Weapon Training and my other abilities will augment hit and damage enough that Mythic Power attack isnt even a priority.
I made Verim as a more laid back character, sure he is loud and boisterous, and sometimes stern in his beliefs. He just wants to generally protect people so they didnt have to go through anything similar to what he did. He enjoys company, drink and jokes and reveres those who have higher callings. Which is why he is under no illusions he is a Paladin or anything close, considering most of his jobs could be classified under "Mercenary work". Not to mention he also has dabbled in the dirt from time to time.
There certain can be players that do as you say but just like in RL its certain type of people who can do that and certain people who cant. That really has nothing to do with optimization.

Maxwell Lionheart |

The ratio of people that do optimize to those that focus primarily optimization vs those that make themselves with weakness are few and far between, however.
As for rogues, the only real reason that they don't get much love is because in most games, and this is kind of a shame, a lot of their feats don't come into play because DM's like to ignore some of the stuff that those talents effect. They're gloriously effective, mind you, when the thing they effect is actually in play.

DM Nightbringer |

They're gloriously effective, mind you, when the thing they effect is actually in play.
Yes they are.
This is an excellent AP for rogues due the breadth of skills and abilities that come into play. A lot of WotR can be resolved without combat by characters with the right skill sets.

Tallina Kapok |

Long term care also takes 8 hours, we aren't sure of the time at all, and all the divine spellcasters have to prepare their spells at certain times. Dusk, dawn, etc. In theory depending on how long we've been down here we could easily just wait for all our spells to come back. Tobongo can take all watches as he has no need for sleep, but he does need to eat. He can work off of water for now.

Verim Pharae |

Someone could also just prepare create water. If necessary, And Im sure some fertilizer can be given... sunlight might be an issue though.

Tallina Kapok |

This weekend I will probably be MIA because of an event my family volunteers for every year. The MS 150 Bike Ride. However if anybody needs for me to roll skills and such everything should be under my character, and Tobongo's.

Mia Rumsfield |

In a game i'm GM'ing i had an ambush encounter set up, which had several nat 20 for the baddies as well. 1 took down the ranged fighter....heavy crossbows can be nasty.
Or a nat 20 for a monkey to grapple a female char.

Verim Pharae |

Its alright.. Im a fighter... kinda my Job.. Gotta look tough in front of the party and Little Mia.... Still hurts like a mofo.

Mia Rumsfield |

Witch shares her spellist with the cleric...ahem, enlarge person, shrink person. We'd be on equal footing.

Verim Pharae |

That would be an experience, small sized Verim and medium Mia. Still would look tough, though He'd have a higher AC.... So bloodied..I hope someone flanks him otherwise he's gunna do the 5ft shuffle every time.

Verim Pharae |

Well it would balance out, because your STR goes down by 2.. dex and size would make AC 2 higher tho.. Big Verim works a little bit better because his AC isnt based on DEX much but the damage is STR and size.. He'd also get reach to stop the whole 5ft safety line. Im sure Mia will do her best, not really expecting anyone to do anything in particular. I can only control my character.

Verim Pharae |

I guess she wasnt a strong follower is what Im hearing, or you cheated spells and items can do so.. I cant see how that happens really save for lack of faith.

Mia Rumsfield |

Haha, i'm happy i'm possibly taking a head leap in S&S vs a warpriest in romancing the pirate-cleric. That's as much as any "conversion" has been for any of my chars.
A serenade resulting in blushing cheeks and a sigh makes a good shift in my favor, a faithless bard.

Verim Pharae |

Must be really good... I doubt he could get someone like Verim though.. might get Maxwell.. Then again Maxwell hates evil..
Hrmm depending on what kind of Dwarf he is... Might still not make it. The trip that is.

Mia Rumsfield |

Hmm, he'd have to try really hard to get Mia back to her previous incarnation.
NE gravewalker. Nice and spooky, with a creepy doll.

Mia Rumsfield |

Sounds thrilling.
Cue a sorcerer encouraging them to "embrace your hatred, feel your anger."
But it's even more of an accomplishment to corrupt, as in Maxwell's example, someone to a total opposite. The more innocent they start out.....the more the drama after breaking point.

Maxwell Lionheart |

I love this character... While he isn't particularly good natured, he is, by a long shot, the least good in the party. He has a true hatred of pure evil, but respects those that understand where he's coming from. It could be said that he hates the do-gooder types if only because his wife was such a person and it got her killed, along with his son, so yeah...
If he does get tempted with power, he's only more likely to use it against the evil he hates so much. That won't be much of an issue with mythic tiers on the horizon, however.
That said, should I build maxwell as the main front-line DPS of the party, or go tanky and focus on save DCs?

Verim Pharae |

.. I wouldnt go as far and say the Main DPS guy, but you can build him like one yes. Both work, its just you are trading for one or the other...

DM Nightbringer |

I love this character...
Have you been tracking the blog post where they were discussing the final changes to the Warpriest?

Verim Pharae |

... Wow thats a big nerf considering Inquisitors are better.. waaaay better... They only got full bab with their weapon and weren't better than a cleric or a Fighter at what they did, they were a nice blend. It was the reason people said "Why would I play this and not a Crusader.. or 18 levels of cleric and two fighter... and be better..

Maxwell Lionheart |

In regards to Inquisitor, they have the potential to be hideously overpowered, but once again, if you optimize too much you take the fun out of everything.
"Deskari looks at you menacingly"
"I cast every swift action in the book and he dies due to infinite damage combination."
"The games over and you're an a@%~$#+."
Who can enjoy something like that?
Wait, Verim, have you seen what Sacred Weapon does to a weapon? Daggers can hit for like 3d6. Essentially you just pick out a weapon with the highest critical modifier and go ham with it.
But I picked a flail because gross amounts of optimization is for tactless louts..

Verim Pharae |

That argument can be said of everything, I would rather the first than the more than likely.
"I cast Persistent Suffocate.."
"He dies of breathing spats"
Because that has nothing to do with Optimization, its just a sell.. something casters can do all day without trying. Like this Creature just did to Verim.
I have seen what Sacred weapon does it eventually gives 2d8 to a weapon, Woo hoo, it has long ago already been established that Damage Dice are not the Breadwinners when it comes to the grand scheme of things.. Someone with say GREATSWORD isnt even getting a benefit until like 16th level.
Not to sound antagonistic but saying tactless louts makes it sound like your some elitist who thinks they are better because they didnt pick another option. Most likely one that is common for obvious reasons.. Like Greatsword or Axe or Longsword.. because they are very common weapons.
Inquistors do your same Job or a Multiclass Fighter Cleric, does you same job, that is the issue.
