Whatever happened to the "assistance" Tawner with confirming his critical threat above? I think it's a bit unfair that got overlooked....

He doesn't believe in 'game balance'. Gandalf always lets him pass. As a feat, he has Exotic Weapon Proficiency (beard). The city guard often question him, just because they find him so interesting. His dice bag is woven from tarrasque leather. His TPKs end game lines. His blood cures moderate wounds. He once punched a flumph. Yes, you heard me. He belongs to a prestige class whose sole requirement for entry is just being him. ♬ He is indeed, the most interesting GM in the world. ♬

Not being able to do much with everybody smashed up in the bottleneck, and more than happy to let everybody else throw themselves at the heavily armed men, the black maiden holds out her hand again.

Slick Aiming for the greatsword this time. DC 12 or drops it.

She steps back a bit, trying to open up some room for the other fighters to get in.

I'm pretty sure you don't take a cover penalty for reach melee weapons.

Actually:
Cover wrote:
When making a melee attack against a target that isn’t adjacent to you (such as with a reach weapon), use the rules for determining cover from ranged attacks.

Swinging a long spear or polearm at someone is difficult if someone else is standing in the way.

"...Um...how do you win a battle of wits with an unarmed adversary?"

The big man seems puzzled by Lydia's remark. "Is the answer: man? So like in the morning he's short, or something, and...."

Then Lydia's weapon traces another line across the man's well sculpted chest.

reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

A moment later, like a bar of damp soap the huge sword slips up out of his hands and embeds itself in the earth inches from Tawner's head.

Reacting quickly he pulls a very heavy flail from his belt and twirls it about like nunchaku. It makes a funny noise as moves through the air. He sends it crashing through the head of the phantom shadow creature that moved to bar its path.

heavy flail v Fomalhaut (rage, power attack): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 damage: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Oh, we're way ahead of Tawner on the whole squishy terrain bit. A shadow has literally fallen across him, but I still need him to make some Constitution checks to see if that is actually 'foreboding' or not. On the plus side, the tanglefoot bag that hit him dries to ineffectual brittleness.

You were going to say 'ninja' weren't you? When it should be perfectly obvious that you are 'kung-fu monks'. And as for evil, well, 'evil' is just 'live' spelled backwards, and we all want to live don't we?

We'll say that happened on round 9. Go ahead and move yourself where you want to be.

Dominic sets himself in the middle of the path, ready to surprise the barbarian as he comes around the corner.

Ready an action to cast Daze on him when he comes around the corner. Will Save DC 13

Bright light coalesces into rolling clouds that condense into form and shadow. A face. A beautiful face. Sarenrae? Tawner manages to croak out the name, but isn't sure that he made a sound.

Wait, the face is pale...and pissed. Tawner jumps to his feet. Lydia and the others don't have time to wait.

Pretty sure all I can do at the moment is stand up and watch the Dysfunctional Avengers chase down the barbarian

You can do that but you might want to look up a few posts before settling on it. ;)

Settling on it, Tawner parleys a slight stomach complant, a bad hangnail, and annoying bone spurs into a medical discharge from adventuring. He wheezes slightly as he rises to his feet.

Meanwhile, Lydia attempts to resuscitate her shadow.

While Dominic and Black Maiden chase down the last bandit. Hallimir scrambles down the rocky hillside while the Black Maiden leaps off the top of the hill, skates its steep incline and comes up swinging.

Seeing his path to freedom cut off the Kellid man yields, tosses his bow aside and pleads for his life.

Okay, now we're really ending combat, right?

Concur. Let's get this thing wrapped up.

"Agreed. Let's take their weapons too." He scoops up the various blades.
