The Black Maiden can certainly find cover by running straight across the street and hiding between some of the buildings in the square. I just wanted to point out that Rhiannon can move and search, a lot faster than the Maiden can move, and that hiding would be pretty difficult given what you are carrying. So down an alleyway? Basically the Maiden just ran out of a town business square (it's not the only one in this town). Nearly everyone has gone home for the night.

Feeling her shield of spirits fading, Lydia wills them back around her before advancing....
Fomalhaut

...while Fomalhaut presses the assault.
Don't forget my Intimidate-to-demoralize last round.
slam vs Lady Rhiannon: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 plus -2 penalty to Strength for 1 round on hit
Tawner Kelenfold
|
Tawner pulls up hard and comes to a stop. This horse is determined to have me run up its rear!
He retrieves a slim wooden wand, and turning it on himself he releases its energy. All the while smiling.
wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
"No healing for you this time, Lady of the Grave."
Black Maiden
|
Granted, but remember, black Maiden can transform back to Lucy the second that she can find someplace to safely stash the tapestry, making it A.) Even harder to find her B.) Potentially have her go the guards with a sob story about a mad woman on a horse. Who knows? But first things first, saving her own skin.
Dominic Radzi
|
Dominic circles around the horse as he sees it succumb to his arcane power. "Now, we'll see what you do when you're surrounded!" He whirls his whip and lashes out at her.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

...while Fomalhaut presses the assault.
Don't forget my Intimidate-to-demoralize last round.
Now noted. Though you did not get her last time.
You can attempt to intimidate [to demoralize] an opponent again, but each additional check increases the DC by +5. This increase resets after one hour has passed.

Lady Rhiannon slashes at the apparition assaulting her.
Dominic's whip hits armor. Fomalhaut's slam though jars her.
Remember Dom you don't technically threaten and are treated as if using a ranged weapon with that whip.
Rhiannon wheels on them.
"Base creatuairs! Mon fami-lee weehl nevair stand fair zis insult!"

Remember Dom you don't technically threaten and are treated as if using a ranged weapon with that whip.
Right, Dom will draw an AOO if he's adjacent to someone (like the horse), but doesn't threaten and can't provide flanking.
Dominic steps to the side of the horse and lashes with his scorpion whip again. "Embrace the pain, Rhiannon!"
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Tawner Kelenfold
|
Hmmmmm seems like no effect from my wand.
Tawner puts away his wand and takes a 5 foot step out from behind Lydia.
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
While the dark wraith Fomalhaut waves his spectral sleeves about as a sort of semaphore distraction Lydia brings her scythe around and knocks the noble woman from her awesome white steed. She falls hard into a heap upon the ground.

My bad, Tawner's now at -5 hp.

Black Maiden will finish transforming into Lucy and then make her way back to the place we're staying as Lucy, probably giving someone a couple of silver to carry the thing over. As such, I'll be out of the rest of this encounter until you guys get back home.
Tawner Kelenfold
|
"Fomalhaut! You can't wear that...can you? Give that back." He looks at the fallen form of the woman and then to the group. "Find Black Maiden. I'll make sure this woman doesn't die."
If she's stable then we run. If she's dying, Tawner would probably like to stabilize her, but he'll wait to argue with the group.
Dominic Radzi
|
Dominic kicks away the woman's sword and crossbow. He grabs the reins of the horse hard and pulls it away. "Maybe we should visit the glue factory, you miserable beast!" He slaps the horse on the hindquarters to get it to bolt through the streets alone.
Fomalhaut
|
"Fomalhaut! You can't wear that...can you? Give that back."
Fomalhaut, who has already put it on, keeps it on, and gives Tawner a look before leaving with Lydia.
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Tawner sees that the woman is stable and Dominic sees off the (the gold dragon disguised as a) horse.
Fomalhaut steals the woman's hat.
Dibbler's carriage pulls up beside a still flush-looking Lucy as she nonchalantly leans on rolled up tapestry stuffed into a narrow alleyway.
There's a new sign placard on the carriage door covering over all the others it reads: "PICK UP (Carriage Service)"
The party hadn't figured on a place to stay yet.
Dominic Radzi
|
"So where to next?" Dominic leafs through the journal. "Here. This one is between Numeria and the River Kingdoms. Not terribly far away. These others are closer to that one being in Ustalav and Razmir."
Doesn't really matter, but Numeria is slightly closer to where we are in Galt.
Tawner Kelenfold
|
"I had an encounter with a minotaur once, you can ask Lydia, and I think that horse we just ran into was tougher." Tawner looks at his wounds, the ones he can see, then looks up at Dominic.
"Do I have a mark on my face? Because I hurt right here." He traces a horseshoe shape across his cheek.

[ooc]You are actually in Gralton (a city-state in the River Kingoms that wants to be back in Galt, and in power again).
Dibbler pulls around and makes for the city gates leaving the town behind, eliciting a wave and an "Au revoir" from the guards there.
An hour later, the coach pulls to a stop at a quaint roadside inn for the night.
Tawner Kelenfold
|
Tawner would like to use his deity-given ability to heal everyone, except for Lydia.
On the ride back, before Lucy goes to bed, Tawner pulls his legs up and quietly speaks to his deity.
Sarenrae. Mend our broken selves that we may be servants for good. I understand that I travel with...different...companions. Let your light shine on them anyway.
Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 2
And again for good measure.
Channel again: 1d6 ⇒ 1
This heals each one of us a total of 3 hp.
Dominic Radzi
|
Dominic watches the others enter the inn. He looks around and sighs. "Middle of nowhere again." He shakes his head.
He walk in and orders a glass of wine from the mousey-looking serving girl. But when she delivers a cup of red vinegary swill, he takes one sip and hurls it angrily against the wall, smashing the glass.
Agirran the Fury
|
"HEY!" says a huge tattooed man rising to his feet. He had been caught in the spray.
Dominic Radzi
|
"Oh, that was only sweetened horse piss and you know it!" He rolls his eyes, the Callistrian in him ready to pay back any violence with a harsh sting. "I doubt this place even has anything better."
He props his feet up on the table to at least relax from the day's journey. He pulls out his meager spellbook, reviewing the arcane writing.
Lucy_Galonnica
|
Lucy walks up to the barkeep and puts down some coin.
Best bed you have. It will be inadequate, and I will gripe about it being inadequate, and you will smile and nod and consider doing something disturbing to my food. You will reconsider it because I'm clearly the kind of rich spoiled brat who might put more coin in your purse if you don't, and summon the local authorities if you upset me unduly.
She sets down another small coin.
Unfortunately, I have had a very bad day and cannot be bothered to upkeep my due appearance of haughty arrogance and require that a hot bath be made as soon as possible, and that bed be made available shortly after. I thank you for saving me the headache of the finer points of the exchange.
Tawner Kelenfold
|
Tawner holds on to his coin and raises his eyebrows.
We might not be staying for very long.

The big wizard grabs up his greataxe....
Three minutes later.
The party stands outside in the cold breeze holding their things (Lucy still all wet, with her hair up in a towel and soap running into her eye) watching as the fire continues.
| 'Cut Me Own Throat' Dibbler |
Dibbler pulls the carriage around.
"Done?"
So where to? (From south to north) Allenstead? The border with Numeria? The boarder with Ustalav? The closest, given the rough terrain, is close to three weeks away by carriage. Dibbler will take you because of all the money you've tossed him, but taking the carriage is not going to be much faster than walking to the more out-of-the-way places. Allenstead is probably the easiest to get to by carriage as there is an actual road to Tymon (the nearest big town).
Lucy_Galonnica
|
Lucy glares at Dominic in her soaking wet towel, the cloth moist and damp.
You are very, very lucky that my goals require me to remain part of the pathfinder organization, or I would kill you right now.
She looks at dibbler as she gets in.
To Allenstead apparently Dibbler. Stat.
Tawner Kelenfold
|
Tawner chuckles a little. "That went better than expected." With his coins firmly back in their pouch, which he pats, Tawner promptly settles in for the ride.
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Nobody said you guys won. I figured you just set the place on fire as a distraction. Did anyone need that noted on their chronicle sheet for their Murderhobo faction card? ;)
An besides, Agirran doesn't even have a hat.
Eight days later...
Knock off the cost of 9 days of sausages-in-a-bun™. curiously the things never seem to go bad. They are never really good but they don't go bad. So 3sp/day/person or 27 sp total per person, and 250 miles of travel at 3cp/rider/mile or 75 sp total per person); there's a one-night stop over in the Free City of Tymon (to which there is an acceptable--more or less--road/path), meaning you will arrive the two days later in Allenstead at about sundown, after a very bumpy ride over some hills and dales. Lemme know if you want to alter any of that.
Did you want to purchase anything in Tymon the City of Gladiators, aside from possibly food, drink and a place to stay the night?
Maps and journal updated.

102 sp, got it. If available, Tawner's going to purchase a Healer's kit (I know, he already has the wand, but he should have a kit) for 50. And two scrolls of inflict light wounds for use on Lydia (I know, she's already got her own) for 50. Total of 100gp. He feels like he should be able to help her too.

The carriage jauntily rolls through the hills north of Tymon and up to the walled town of Allenstead. All the older towns in the River Kingdoms having to have walls if they wish to last long enough to be considered 'towns'. For it's part Allenstead is much smaller than either Gralton or Tymon but nonetheless has an impressive stone curtain wall.
Coming around to ford the river, they arrive at the northeastern gateway, in the early evening, where they are challenged by a guardsman.
Dominic Radzi
|
Dominic looks back at the others and then steps forward. "I'm Dominic. We're travelers looking for a good night's rest. It seems those are hard to come by lately. Is there an Inn you would recommend?"
Lucy_Galonnica
|
Lucy sits up and glares at the guardsman.
Traveling. These are my guards and envoys. And I'm not accustom to these roads, so I will require a day or so of rest before we head out again. Beyond our traveling, my business is my own.

Couple of questions: One, +11? Where's that coming from? Two, this seems more like intimidate than bluff. It is as if Lucy is trying to browbeat her way past the guard rather than convince him that she's b+%&+y--that doesn't seem to be a falsehood. Lucy has to meet my character Thaia Rossenvelt in a game sometime. ;)
Going with intimidation (+5).
"Um? Yes, Ma'am!" The guard comes to immediate attention, and moments later the cart is moving forward.
As the carriage passes though the gate the guard shouts after the party: "May you climb forever!"
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Dibbler drops the party off just beyond the gate to put his horses up in the nearby stable.
Allenstead is, on the whole, a nice seeming boarder village. It's smaller than the wall would suggest, a few dozen buildings (none taller than two-stories) dotted about a central lane. At the center of the village, construction is nearly complete on a large stone statue of a Razmiri priest that stands nearly 20 feet in height. The masked face of the statue peers down at a stage.
It being dusk, the streets are mostly empty.
