Charging through the door, you find yourself on rickety wooden platform that overlooks a large room, with two flights of stairs descending to the floor ten feet below. A five-foot-wide wooden walkway runs from the northern edge of the platform to a passageway to the east. This large room was obviously once a prison, as testified by the nearly two dozen cells that line the room’s perimeter. Skeletons lie in most of the cells, prisoners who starved to death ages ago.
The voices are coming from two sinspawn who are bickering in the eastern part of the room over a collection of skulls.
15ft from the doorway to the stair on either side of the platform, 10ft stairs and the sinspawn are 5ft from the bottom of the stairs. They look up in surprise as the door bursts open.
You may post your surprise round actions and then your first round actions.
Sinspawn Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Pik |

Surprise Round Initiative: 16, AC: 12, HP: 16/16
Pik enters the room after Erodel and stops inside the door. If we can see the Sinspawn from the other room Pik will instead use Evil Eye on one of the Sinspawn
Move action to move inside room or Standard action to use Evil Eye [Will Save DC: 14, failure: -2 attack for 7 rounds, success: -2 attack for 1 round].
Round 1 Initiative: 16, AC: 12, HP: 16/16
Pik stares at one of the Sinspawn.
If the previous Evil Eye was successful, this one will be targeted at the second. [Will Save DC: 14, failure: -2 attack for 7 rounds, success: -2 attack for 1 round].

So to confirm, the Sinspawn are at the bottom of the Eastern stairs?
The first to burst into the room, Erodel stops momentarily as he takes in the 'sinspawn'. "Great... more of them!" And moves to take his position at the top of the stairs!
Surprise: Init 20
Move to top of stairs.
Round 1: Init 20 AC 22 HP: 13/24
Erodel braces for the assault that is to come!
Ready Action: Attack defensively as spawn come up stairs!
Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 5 - 4 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Elransil Farseer |

Surprise Round Init 14, AC 18, HP 12/21
The ranger moves out onto the platform so he can have a clear shot at both of the sinspawn, taking care to make stop within 30 feet of them.
Round 1 Init 14, AC 18, HP 21
Elransil will fire two arrows at one of the sinspawn, one that is not in melee if possible. Otherwise, he'll shoot the nearest monster.
Point blank longbow 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Point blank longbow 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Confirmation attack roll 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Extra damage 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11+9 for total damage if that is a confirmed crit
Subtract 4 if the target is in melee

Manx Serimus |

Round 1, Init: 14; AC 12/12/10 HP 7
Combat stuff:
Fort +1, REF +2, Will +1
Spells Available:
1st-Silent Image DC 16, Grease DC 17, Corrosive Touch no save
0-Prestidigitation, Detect Magic, Ghost Sound DC14, Acid Splash no save
Manx pulled the ranseur and will carry it if nobody wants to use it, before the door is broken down.
After the door goes down, Manx will move onto the platform and cast grease on to the stairs. is there one or two flights leading from the platform? If two, then the stairs that Erodel is not in front of.

Pik |

Manx, we haven't rested since before the Glassworks. So, unless you prepared Grease twice, you don't have it available (though you could cast it from your ring, which, by the way, should be listed somewhere on your character sheet). Also, we *definitely* haven't rested between leveling and walking down the last hallway, so there's no way you'd have prepared Corrosive Touch yet (and really, corrosive touch prepared?).

DM WaterSprite |

There is a central platform that you are on. There is a flight os stairs to both the east ans west side of it. The two sinspawn are at the bottom of the stairs to the east. Both sets of stairs are one flight each.
Manx, as stated above, the group hasn't had a chance to rest yet. And though you could still cast it from your ring (bonded item), I would need you to state that is what you are doing.

Manx Serimus |

Thanks for the correction, I forgot to remove the grease when it was used on Tsuto.
As for the new spells available, I guess that would be up to the GM, since he is allowing us to level up in the middle of an encounter, unless you are saying that no one should have new HP, new feats, new BAB, use better skill ranks, or did you just want to gimp the wizard? Since the arguement of "resting" could just as easily be applied to just about anything, including the second witch hex. It has been my experience that when a DM says level up, that all aspects of that leveling become available, including spells memorized. I will of course, defer to our DM on this.
Corrected:
Round 1, Init: 14; AC 12/12/10 HP 7
Combat stuff:
Fort +1, REF +2, Will +1
Spells Available:
1st-Silent Image DC 16, Corrosive Touch no save
0-Prestidigitation, Detect Magic, Ghost Sound DC14, Acid Splash no save
since the status of additional spells available is in the air,
Manx will move onto the railing behind Erodel and fire his crossbow at one of the spawn.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 -1 if we are being hyper RP if he wouldn't have his +1 BAB
1d8 ⇒ 2 damage
@Pik, I lost count, how many bolts have I fired since the last resupply?

Radoslav Ochenko |

Surprise Round
Init: 15, AC: 16, HP: 16/16
Radoslav moves up behind Erodel.
Round 1
If the sinspawn are within range to move into a flanking position with Erodel, move up and attack. Otherwise he'll draw his sling and attack the nearest sinspawn.
Morningstar: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 2 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + (2) + 1 = 10
Sling: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

You're aware that I'm playing a Witch, aren't you? We both need rest before being able to prepare spells. We have the ability to prepare spells at any time of day and can therefore break for an hour and fill up our newly open spell slot. A function of leveling up is new hp, feats, bab, etc. Not automatic preparation of spells.
As to how many bolts you've used, I have no idea. I'd have to check back through the thread. Which you're also capable of doing.

Now... how big are these 'Sinspawn'?? Erodel is hoping that by standing at the top of the stairs, can limit them to a only one can go 'base to base'. While the party can ranged/do their thing. If reach is getting involved... well (Erodel will probably find that out pretty quick!!)
And me as a player apologizes if Erodel's actions are preventing anyone from doing their 'schtick'. I'm sure we can go over party tactics, positioning, and roles once we are no longer in a life threatening situation... as we seem to be the 'go to' folks for alot of the problems recently!! (Not that Erodel minds, helps shake that 'black sheep' reputation!!! And free room/board is always good.)
And Manx, I think you fired 4? 2x at goblin (when we broke into the glass works) 2x at the sinspawn in the tunnel. Now I think you may have fired one or two at the festival combat.
And as for leveling... the caster's may be able to take an hour once we clear this room, while the rest of the party explores!

Elransil Farseer |

You may wish to switch to a bow so you can buy durable arrows touse them again and again. Elransil uses durable cold iron arrows. It cost a fair amount, but otherwise I wouldn't be able to fire lots of arrows like my future build will need to. I'm planning on buying even more later, especially if I can find a special quiver for them.
That said, I assumed my HP total went up, but that I did not gain those HP to my current HP total. Is that correct?

DM WaterSprite |

The Sinspawn are medium size creatures. If they stood up straight they would likely be about 6ft, but are always hunched over.
You guys got your spell slots, just break for an hour after this and you two can prepare your spells then. You do get your additional hp now, but still have any damage on you that you may have incurred today unless healed. I don't recall that anyone has bought any additional supplies yet, though it would have been easy enough to do at any of the stores in town. Elran, per his class Manx can't use a bow. And the proper pronoun for your gm is she.
Surpise Round
You all move into position.
Round 1
The Sinspawn come rushing up the stairs to attack, but are halted by Erodel blocking the way and the front one swipes at him, but misses.
claw 1 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
claw 2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
bite 1d20 ⇒ 11
will save 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Erodel's blow misses the spawn, as does Radoslav's. Pik looks at that sinpawn. Elransil and Manx both succeed in shooting their target and their combined effort drops the second sinspawn, leaving just the one in front of Erodel.
End Round 1

![]() |

Round 2: Init 20 AC 22 HP: 24/24
As the first of the spawn collapses down the stairs Erodel gives up a cheer, and continues his defense of the stairwell!
Attack: Fighting Defensively: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 5 - 4 = 5
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Oh well... not like Erodel would have hit anyway!

Pik |

Round 2 Initiative: 16, AC: 12, HP: 16/16
Pik stares at the remaining Sinspawn.
Evil Eye on Sinspawn (note, my DC has changed). [Will Save DC: 15, failure: -2 attack for 7 rounds, success: -2 attack for 1 round].

Elransil Farseer |

Round 2 Init 14, AC 18, HP 21
Elransil takes aim at the sinspawn swinging at Erodel and fires twice in quick succession.
Point blank longbow 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 6 - 4 = 17
Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Point blank longbow 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 6 - 4 = 3
Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Manx Serimus |

Round 2, Init: 14; AC 12/12/10 HP 7
Combat stuff:
Fort +1, REF +2, Will +1
Spells Available:
1st-Silent Image DC 16, Corrosive Touch* no save
0-Prestidigitation, Detect Magic, Ghost Sound DC14, Acid Splash* no save

Arcane Bond Ring: available
Manx reloads (move)
casts Detect Magic (standard) he is scanning the room and the pits from the balcony.
"That one is all yours Erodel!"

DM WaterSprite |

Round 2
will save 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
attacks -
claw 1 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
claw 2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
bite 1d20 ⇒ 2
The Sinspawn completely fails to damage Erodel, but Erodel also fails to damage the sinspawn. Pik's hex succeeds. One of Elransil's arrows finds its mark and Radoslav dents the Sinspawns head. Though grievously wounded, it manages to stay on its feet.
Manx, you do not see any magic auras in the room.

Pik |

Round 3 Initiative: 16, AC: 12, HP: 16/16
Current Hexes: Evil Eye, -2 attack on Sinspawn, 6 rounds.
Pik continues to stare at the remaining Sinspawn.
Evil Eye on Sinspawn (note, my DC has changed). [Will Save DC: 15, failure: -2 AC for 7 rounds, success: -2 AC for 1 round].

![]() |

Now used to their tactics, Erodel's efforts seem to produce results as he is able to rebuff the sinspawn's assault! Opting to go on the offensive this time, Erodel focuses his full fury on the wounded creature.
Round 3 Init: 20 AC: 20 HP: 24/24
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 +2 if Flank
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Only... to roll below a 5 again. Its 'rope a dope'! I swear!

Elransil Farseer |

The ranger grimaces at his poor shots and tries again to finish off the sinspawn.
Point blank longbow shot with -4 for being in melee 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 6 - 4 = 11
Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Point blank longbow with -4 for being in melee 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 4 = 14
Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

DM WaterSprite |

will save 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 - 2 = 17
attacks -
claw 1 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 - 2 = 19
claw 2 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 - 2 = 11
bite 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 16
The Sinspawn is yet again incapable of getting past Erodel's defenses and as he holds the creature at bay, Elransil fells it with his arrows.
End of Combat

DM WaterSprite |

Erodel, you as you walk around, you count a total of 21 prison cells, each a mere 5ft by 5ft in size. The only thing of interest in any of them is that the first one on the left appears to have a hole in the back of the wall. Looking through it, it appears to be a narrow tunnel that most likely leads to the tunnel that you all came here through.
Aside from the collection of skulls where the Sinspawn first were on the right, you do not find anything.

Manx Serimus |

are the skulls from the skeletons in the holes?
Manx watches as Radoslav takes his samples, "Do you have any idea how old they are? Would you like some assistance?"
Manx strolls along the cells, looking into each with his detect magic before heading for the cell that Erodel is looking in. "We better check that tunnel before we open any more doors."

![]() |

"And if they knew about it's....'residents'." Erodel adds.
"Think it might be connected with the goblin attacks? These creatures might be the 'big plan', Tsuto was talking about."
How old does the wooden catwalk look? Older than the skulls? Does it seem to be a 'recent' addition??
Knowledge Engineering!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Too... many... questions!! Need inspector Elransil on the case!

Elransil Farseer |

Elransil will search the room for anything we have missed and to see how recent any tracks in the room are.
If we are pausing to recover spells, then the ranger will take 20 on the perception and tracking rolls. That would be a 32 perception and a 28 tracking.
"We'll have to do some research to find out just how old this area is and what it could be. Tsuto might have some idea, along with the sheriff or other town officials."
While the others work on their magics, the ranger will go over the room trying to see if anything jogs his memory about what this place is.
Knowledge(local) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Knowledge(nature) to see how old skulls are 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Pik |

Pik can't prepare spells without his raven, which is waiting outside the cave, but he won't object to taking a break for Manx to prepare spells.
This town appears to have many secrets.

![]() |

Is there a reason why Pik can't go pick up his raven? Erodel is more than willing to do a little more exploring, while Manx/Elransil can inspect/prepare spells. If Erodel's hunch is correct, we will end up back in the same spot anyway!
Also.. anyone have any idea how long we have been down here?! Early morning got to the glass works... brought back tsuto. Walked around at least a half mile/mile, some more combats.. so Im guessing noon at the latest?
