I think I would like to modify the construct idea into a monk, if you are cool with the idea I'll finish posting up stats and what not to go with it.

Scarab Sages

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Name: Tondrick the "Dog of War"
Race: Human
Class: Mad Dog Barbarian
Alignment: LN
Appearance:
Standing at a towering 6'6" Tondrick is a mountain of a man, well muscled and weathered. He shows battle scars and evidence of a life of work and danger. His long, dark hair complements his deep green eyes well, and would be considered quite handsome of the scar across his right eye didn't put a girl off. He bears the tattoos of his tribe across his chest, and is not afraid to explain their significance if asked.
Personality:
Tondrick is a joyful, cheerful fellow who enjoys drinking, training, and playing with his hound. While is outward appearance can be kind of intimidating he is usually a kind and gentle man. However, he is very loyal and protective of the weak and of females, as they were a prized thing in his tribe, females, not the weak that is. He follows a personal code of honor and sees his own personal honor as a big deal.
10 Min Background:
Step 1:
1. Tondrick the “Dog of War” is the son of the chief of a remote tribe of barbaric humans, the “Mongrels”.
2. He values strength and honor, he sees magic as cheating and a way for those that nature would normally cull to cheat death.
3. He was supposed to take over the tribe in a couple of years, but a rival of his father took over the tribe by killing his father in ritual combat, the rival is Baloric Herdpounder.
4. Tondrick is the lover of the tribes apprentice wise woman, Sandra Woodwise, (cleric) and was engaged to her, but when his father was killed, they both fled, and she is now in a hamlet (insert name here) working to run an herbalist shop. Tondrick adventures and does merc work to make ends meet.
5. He dreams of one day going back and killing Baloric and restoring his family honor and taking control of the tribe once again, to become King of the Mongrels. He knows he must train hard though to accomplish this goal.
Step 2:
1. Return to his tribe and challenge for leadership, and to connect his tribe to the wider world.
2. He would like to become the legend his father never was, to have stories told about him, and to have his name spoken across the land as a great man.
Step 3:
1. Tondrick’s father’s soul is being held captive by the witch who helped empower Baloric so that Baloric could beat tondricks father, whose name is Torkil Ironhammer.
2. Sandra has been getting weird prophetic visions that trouble her greatly.
Step 4:
1. Sanda Woodwise is a cleric of a nature deity, and is a beautiful, kind woman who tries her best to do well by others and to do the will of her god. She does her best to support Tondrick and is hopeful one day to be reunited with the sister she left back at the tribe.
2. Baloric Herdpounder is the barbarian that killed Torkil for leadership of the tribe. He had the help of his consort and shaman, Glorana Whitefeather, a witch of some power. He used some trickery and magic to help his ambitions.
3. Norman is a adventuring companion of Tondrick, a druid, who has taken a liking to Tondrick and tries to keep an eye on him. Norman is a sarcastic man, a bit older, and likes to relax and partake in “special” herbs when he is not adventuring.
Step 5
1. Tondrick remembers the anger and loss he felt as a younger man when his father was killed before his eyes.
2. Tondrick keeps his faithful war hound, Vokar, by his side at all times (the namesake of the tribe, for they are known in their remote area to breed special hound/wolf/bear hybrids to turn into fierce war creatures.
3. Tondrick has a penchant for good poetry.

Fun fact, In one of the Flinx and Pip novels, they encountered rock creatures, which had actual crystals growing on it's back.

Well I have pretty much decided to play a goblin mage :)
Goblin just because they are my favorite by far and the chance to play one in a setting like this is just irresistible ^-^
I am going to play a nomad focused mage (wizard or sorcerer, undecided yet) with strong conjuration elements.

DM Kibeth wrote:
If you want to use EoM, let me know; there are a few changes I am making to that ruleset simply to have it be coherent with pathfinder. EoM versions of certain classes will still retain their pathfinder class features.

I am going to play a wiz/sorc with that set of rules so I would love to hear the changes you are making to it. Specific questions would include;

A Taskmage gets 8+int (its main stat) skill ranks... WTF? is this correct? Thats massive XD
A 20 int human with skilled, finding haleen (trait) and FCB would get 16 a level D8
Edit: Ahh I see, you removed it, thank goodness!
Tradition feats. It says this is completely DM dependant. Do you have any created? Any that would benefit a nomadic, horde focused gobo from Caer?
How does the arcane school interact with EoM? I get a bonus spell slot and "restricted schools." How are these played out?
Same with the arcane bond (object). I imagine it just lets you cast any spell you have created/can create at the normal casting time without expending MP?
Sorcerer bloodlines. These grant bonus spells, how does that work with EoM?
Caster level increases, orange prisim ioun stone for example. Would this give you extra mp, spell lists or effect how much mp you could spend on a single spell?
Whats the difference with spontaneous and prepared casting (wiz vs sorc) when all EoM casting is spontaneous in effect? I am not quite sure I understand this one.

DM Kibeth wrote:

Q: Why is your world an entire material plane? Why can't it be a single planet in the same material plane in the rest of the 'verse?

A: To that, I will respond with a question of my own: what is the difference between a plane and a planet, really? Especially in a non-existent high fantasy world in which space travel has yet to be accomplished. How can one be sure they are two separate and mutually exclusive entities? Perhaps you will be the one to find out.

Unintendedly, looks like I will be the one to find out :D

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for putting up EoM, I am enjoying it immensely and would love to use it in this campaign :D

Sorry but another quick question. Is making a called shot a full round action or a standard? The improved and greater feats seem contradictory and wanted to know how you would rule it. Also can you make a called shot and a vital strike at the same time? I would imagine no as that would make getting massive damage to easy.
Thanks!

Wow, they made major changes to armor as DR. I am a bit dubious about certain things, though. Like, incorporeal ignores natural armor now, which doesn't make sense unless they can just stick their hand all the way through and squeeze your heart, but if that were the case why would they need to make atks at all? And the shields alteration is wierd.

It is funny though, they could have explained defense score as ac with a new name.

Not sure I like the balance of called shots, we'll see how it goes.

Some of these questions were answered in the OP. There is no mechanical difference. It's purely cosmetic. Caster level increases will not increase your mp limit; only increases for the purposes of overcoming SR, using magic items, and casting spells from spellbooks. As far as bonus spells, that's pretty easy. Replicate the spell with EoM within the MP limit that you have and you get it as an extra signature spell. You don't have "restricted schools" anymore as a wizard if you're choosing the EoM option. Just forget it completely. Your assumption about the arcane bond is correct. One signature spell without expending MP/day.

I haven't created any tradition feats. I consider that the kind of feat that I'll be awarding after the whole application process is over. Also, a horde focused, nomadic gobo would more likely be from The Vax, or Somaria (which I hadn't mentioned - it's on the other side of Roanuk - Lot of nomadic orc, goblin, ogre type shamanistic races over there).

Spoiler:

Name – Jubal Breakbottle
Race – Gnome
ClassVeiled Illusionist
Alignment – Neutral. Jubal currently has a very flexible moral compass. He has never had any role-models with strong moral compasses either nor faced any defining life events.
Appearance – Jubal cultivates an a very manicured, classic fashion statement that is lost on anyone without significant wealth. His tailor is admired; his shoe cobbler is by appointment only; and his body is professionally groomed. To those who do not or cannot appreciate the details, he appears as an average-sized, well-dressed (courtier’s outfit) gnome with deep purple hair, moustache, and beard.
Personality – Jubal believes that he has life figured out and is “on track” for his life plan. He is courteous and gracious to everyone knowing how important all relationships are. His biggest fear is discovering a secret that will get him or his fiancée killed, like his father, mother, and grandfather.
Ten Minute Background
Step 1 Background:

1. Jubal was born and raised in the city-state of Rayne. He has only vacationed beyond the city a few times throughout his eighty-one years. His family has known relative wealth, since his grandfather made a name for himself as a successful illusionist for hire to the city elite.
2. Jubal works in the firm of Breakbottle and Sons, a partnership of skilled illusionists that was founded by his grandfather. They take contracts to animate social gatherings and installing permanent illusions for elite architecture. The firm is one of the most respected in the city.
3. Jubal just made full partner. He prefers social gatherings, as opposed to working with architects and artists. He leads the partnership cultivating business among the elite.
4. Jubal is active in the elite social network attending all sorts of social gatherings like opera, plays, parties, weddings, fund-raisers, etc. He also belongs to several social clubs.
5. Jubal is suave and debonair. He always dresses well (courtier’s outfit) and keeps the real jewelry secured but ready for service.
6. Several months ago before becoming partner, Jubal became engaged to a wealthy socialite, Artemis Honeyblossom. They met at a social gathering that he worked and had been dating for almost a decade. The wedding date has not been set.
7. Jubal’s father specialized in permanent illusions for the firm. His last client had him and Jubal’s mother killed to protect his secrets. For this reason, Jubal doesn’t like the business of permanent illusions and secrets of the elites.

Step 2 Goals:
1. Jubal feels that the next step in his life is marriage and starting a family. He’s not in a hurry but believes that it is the proper step forward.
2. Jubal wants to live a full life and retire in peace and prosperity away from the elite social networks.
3. I want him to be ripped from the routine and personal plan of his life, and adventure thrust upon him.
4. I want him to face strong moral dilemmas that will define his otherwise flexible moral character.

Step 3 Secrets:
1. Jubal’s grandfather retired in peace and prosperity after faking his death. His last client wanted to ensure that the secrets of his new palace would not leak, so the architect, craftsmen, and everyone with intimate knowledge received death contracts. Of his family, only Jubal is aware that his grandfather is alive and living on a country estate.
2. Jubal’s mother and father might also be alive. They buried bodies, but that can be faked, too.
3. Jubal is not aware that his fiancée’s family wealth comes from theft and blackmail activities. Artemis Honeyblossom scouts for the family business looking for potential targets and secrets to leverage.

Step 4 NPCs:
1. Artemis Honeyblossom (cohort) truly loves Jubal. She may have started the relationship to assist her cover for her family’s business, but she has fallen in love with him over the years. She has been well trained by her family as a Bard (detective) but has concealed her abilities to Disable Device.
2. Phineas Fuzzlecrisp is the senior partner of the firm and Jubal’s uncle by marriage to his aunt. He leads the business for permanent illusions succeeding Jubal’s father who succeeded the grandfather.
3. Cullen Peppercourt was heartbroken when Artemis accepted Jubal’s engagement. He is a gnome necromancer who worships Artemis. He has a successful business in the city as a professional necromancer providing undead labor and speaking to the dead.

Step 5 mannerisms:
1. Jubal is a creature of habit. He has had the same tailors, cobblers, and barbers for decades. He regularly enjoys the same restaurants and sights in the city. His routine provides great comfort to Jubal and enables him to focus on developing new business and being innovative with his illusions and magic.
2. Jubal obsessively prepares and practices his illusions. His personal library is very large focusing on the descriptions of strange creatures and magical effects to fuel his illusionary arsenal.
3. Jubal is obsessed with fashion and his appearance. He ensures that his wardrobe classically fits for all levels of the elite.
4. Jubal does not have a strong moral compass. He believes in thriving in the environment.
RP Sample
”Why yes, my lord, you are most observant. The knight, his warhorse, and the dragon were all major images that I maintained and synchronized with the story.” Jubal graciously responds to his host and employer.

”I thought only one image could be maintained at a time, especially major images.” Lord Farnal continued his interrogation to demonstrate to his peers later that he possessed knowledge that they did not have. He was very pleased with the glorious applause that his entertainers received, because it would most certainly be spread throughout the city increasing his grandiose reputation, at least more grandiose than his rival, Lord Harconim.

”Why yes, my lord, again you are correct. However, for gifted gnomes such as Breakbottle and Sons, our illusions are almost effortless.” Jubal smiled with a nod of his head. To continue to fluff the lord’s ego more than his own, Jubal directed Lord Farnal’s appreciation to the narrator, ”Master Cullen is a most skillful storyteller. Without his story, my illusions would lack context, background, and emotion. You might as well as have ordered a permanent illusion.” He added that last bit without conviction for the sake of the partnership.

”You are most skillful Master Breakbottle. Now, I must thank Master Cullen.” With the shake of the hand and nod of the head, Lord Farnal continued to work his room. Jubal took a deep breath to enjoy the reprieve and pause in the ‘pressing of the flesh’ as his father had trained him. And then there she was. Almost glowing in her dazzling gown of iridescent purple, his fiancée flawlessly glided through the throng toward him. Jubal felt like the luckiest gnome in Vaylen to be engaged to the beautiful Artemis Honeyblossom.

I know you've had a lot going on the past few weeks, GM, but did you get a chance to read the story I proposed? I believe it's back on the first page. I was waiting on you to green light it before I fleshed-out the mechanics.

@Stratos - Actually, I have. I like it. I wouldn't bother fleshing out the mechanical side of your character before apps have closed and decisions have been made, though. I'm not saying either way yet, obviously. There are just way more than 5-6 applicants -_-. Normally I would just run two games in the same universe and have them play off of each other, but I really don't have time for that. At any rate, I don't want you potentially waste time doing mechanics before they're necessary. I like your background, though.

@Gobo - A normal called shot is a full round action in it of itself. Improved Called shot simply allows you to substitute any melee attack during a full-round action or standard action that gives you multiple attacks with a called shot. You may still only do one per round. Greater simply allows you to substitute any attack ever with a called shot. So if you have Greater, you can vital strike called shot. Without greater, you cannot.

Well, finally got around to typing this all up, put a lot more effort into it than I normally would so hope I make it, but even if not it's been pretty fun. Would really love to check out the Elements of Magic system though, haven't finished reading it all but it definitely sound cool, if a touch confusing :p

Name - Matinos Duskbadger
Race - Dhampir
Class - Wizard (Cruoromancer (ARG 98))

Alignment:
True Neutral, with faint leanings towards good. Morality is something of a complex issue for Matinos with a variety of conflicting drives. His parentage lights the dark path towards evil, and gives him a fairly relaxed view of some of the darker aspects of human nature, further reinforced by his chosen profession which involves a good deal of necromancy. That being said the people that raised him—not his true parents of course--were good, honest folk and instilled in him the values of charity and selflessness. Most of the time he just wants to be left to his research and study to pursue the joy on knowledge and enlightenment.

Appearance:
Matinos is actually quite attractive, inheriting his father’s unnatural grace and beauty, and having his own, boyish sort of charm. He’s not a particularly vain person, so his brown hair is often a bit on the long and unkempt side, while he doesn’t seem to grow much in the way of facial hair. He keeps himself clean and dresses well, with simple but well made clothes, comparable in quality to a well to do artisan. He stands fairly tall at 6’3”, but quite thin, weighing in at approx 173 lbs, and though healthy he has a pallor to his skin, another trait inherited from his unnatural parentage.

Personality:
Matinos, or Mati as his friend, Sielthra has taken to calling him, is rather an odd duckling; owing to his vampiric father and the isolation that has resulted in, he has achieved an odd balance between self-sufficiency and ineptitude. Though a generally friendly guy, his social skills are fairly underdeveloped, and his advanced age (Dhampir age comparably to Elves) has left him a little melancholy after his family has all largely passed on. It generally doesn’t keep him down too long, only suffering the occasional binge session before he’s up and back to work, trying to unlock the secrets of the universe, and his own odd ancestry. Necromancy has become something of an obsession, and while he’s not averse to dabbling with undead or the darker sides of the art, it doesn’t call to him like some, he has no desire to see the world burn, but to experience it instead.

Ten Minute Background -
Concept Elements:
  • Indebted to The Mozthgha Consortium, a criminal organization which funds his research
  • Raised by his cousins in Rayne when his mother disappeared after giving birth to him. His father was likewise absent, being an unknown vampire from the Blightlands.
  • Always been fascinated with discovering how things work, led to studying magic in order to uncover the greater secrets of the universe.
  • Largely oblivious to other’s distrust/dislike of his heritage, is happy in solitude as it allows him to focus on his work and studies, but does not deliberately exclude others in order to obtain it.
  • Fascinated by discovery of unique powers of his own blood with regards to the necromantic arts.
  • Limited experience with the world outside his studies and small circle of friends and associates.
  • Mixed thoughts of his own vampirism.

Goals:
  • I would like to explore the relationship with Matinos’ absent father (the vampire), and the inheritance of blood cravings (not mechanically necessary I know, but I feel it makes the character more interesting and complex).
  • Matinos would someday like to visit with his pen-pal in Aeonar, Odlar Mindossa and meet the person he considers to be a good friend.
  • Matinos has occasional daydreams of contacting Nethys and finding out what really happened to him, and the circumstances around his gifting arcane knowledge and resulting punishment.

Secrets:
  • Has an unexpressed crush on a Half-Elven lass named Ilaelis who teaches at a woodworking college within the city. He met her once when purchasing some furniture from her father’s store to set up his lab, and has semi-stalked her since, watching from afar with no clue how to approach her.

  • Matinos’ Blood (and some of his research) is being used by the criminal organization he ‘works’ for to create a new type of highly dangerous/potent Mana Potion.

Relationships:
  • Ilaelis Kareel, a Half-Elven artisan and teacher at a Rayne woodworking college, and the distant recipient of Matinos’ affections, of which she seems unaware. Lives with her brother Tyisri and Human father Enardi at his shop in the artisan district.
  • Known to Matinos only as Eolo, the Half-Orc is the Lieutenant given the task of dealing with Matinos by the leadership of the Mozthgha Consortium. He is also the most frequent source for solutions to Matinos’ infrequent ‘cravings’ providing ‘willing’ partners to Matinos.
  • Odlar Mindossa, a Human from Aeonar whom Matinos has been corresponding with for over a decade now. He shares Matinos’ interest in unusual blood and it’s uses in magic.
  • Sielthra, Male Elf and Matinos’ closest friend in Rayne. The two met at a bar where they were both drowning their sorrows, Matinos after the death of his last sibling, and Sielthra after the end of a looong term relationship. The mutual drunkenness and shenanigans they got up to that night formed an odd bond between the pair and they have remained friends, drinking buddies, and hopeless bachelors ever since.
  • Taia, a female Half-Orc out for Matinos’ blood, literally. After her brother, Serenn had an unfortunate reaction to the potions made from Matinos’ blood, leaving him mentally unhinged, Taia has put her efforts towards infiltrating the Consortium. She hopes to discover the source of the illicit potions and put an end to their production, which in this case, would mean putting an end to Matinos.

Quirks and Memories::
  • One of Matinos’ most vivid memories of his long childhood, while still living with his adopted family is of his first feeding. Only a teenager at the time the events leading up to it remain fuzzy, the boy experiencing something akin to a blackout, before he ‘came to’ with warm blood dripping from his chin and fangs. The feel of the stray dog’s life fading in his hands will always stay with him, and though it was not the most intense sensation he has experienced (nothing compared to his first taste of human blood...) it has remained with him, and he has always managed to keep control when those infrequent ‘cravings’ hit him, and has not drunk a ‘victim’ to death again.
  • The thrill of discovery will always stay with Matinos, it is the reason he lives; everything else seems secondary when he is in his lab, amidst sample dishes, scroll and books of formulae and other beakers and notes. Each time he unlocks a new secret the satisfaction of understanding washes through him, making all the failures and petty concerns fade away. It is pure.
  • The loss of his adopted parents was another moment of realization for Matinos, they died not from some great tragedy, no vicious monster attack, no accident; but from old age. Sitting in the old family house, with his siblings all looking decades older than himself, their own children playing in one of the other rooms he was forced to accept that they would all be gone before him. He had seen elves with the same look that stared back at him in the window reflection, the Forlorn ones, but he had never realized, never even considered that he might suffer a similar fate.

RP Sample:
Baaahhhh, I’m bad at just coming up with something... *sigh* Well, let’s see what I can do...
By the time Matinos had roused to consciousness the knocking had become more of a hammering. Blinking the sleep out of his eyes Mati looked around in confusion. The lab? What was he doing here? He must have been working late again... it was all a bit of a blur, and the hammering wasn’t helping the headache he seemed to be sporting.
Pushing himself to his feet Matinos shuffled slowly over to the door. What had he been doing last night? He’d gone out with Sielthra, they’d brinking drinking... so why was he at his lab. Ugh it was too hard to think... ”Alright, I’m coming!” he called, grumbling and rubbing at his face, coming away with a scrap of parchment that must have been stuck to his cheek. He was about to throw it away before he realized there was something written on it, and not in his normal, relatively neat hand, but Sielthra’s scrawl, a date and time. What was that about?
The hammering on the door started up again, forcing him from his reverie. ”Matinos! Open up!” ordered the muffled voice of Eolo. Matinos sighed, folding the note and sticking it in a pocket to figure out later. Unlatching the door he stumbles back as it is pushed open abruptly to reveal the short Half-Orc that was the go-between for Matinos and his ‘employers’. ”Smeg, you’re a mess Matinos.” he complained, letting himself in to look around at the relatively spacious and well appointed lab now considerably less orderly after the Necromancer–come-Scientist had slept on, and drooled over one of the tables. ”You knew we were comin’ today right? You got the letter? Sheesh, all this way for nothing.” the Half-Orc continues to mutter to himself.
”That... wasn’t that the 5th?” he asks uncertainly, casting his gaze around, before approaching a desk and pulling out a drawer, extracting a letter with a broken seal from it.
”Yeah, it was. Guess what the date is?” he asks, looking at Matinos.
”It... wow I must have really drunk too much.” he murmurs, pouring himself a glass of water from a pitcher. He remembered what he thought was the previous night. He hadn’t intended to drink so much but Sielthra’s latest girlfriend had broken up with him, and he could hardly let his friend drown his sorrows alone. ”Sorry Eolo... I’ll have to reschedule, it won’t be any good today.” he informed his business associate. He wouldn’t quite call Eolo a friend, but they got along fairly well, as long as things went smoothly. The man had come for a fresh sample of Matinos’ blood--to ‘collect the rent’ as he put it--but after last night Matinos couldn’t make any guarantees it wasn’t still drenched in gin.
”Think I don’t know that, ya smeg-head. Don’t go doin’ anything stupid like that again, we’ll be back in a couple days. Cmon doc.” Without further ceremony the greenish skinned Lieutenant makes for the door, waving the doctor who’d accompanied him ahead of him, leaving the still woozy wizard to recuperate and straighten up. Never again...

Still waiting to get that magus archetype you wrote :)

Oh, a few questions I had after reading what I have of Elements of Magic.

  • Range and duration come in set increments in EoM, they don't scale at all with Caster Level?
  • EoM lists several magical skills alongside Spellcraft (Scry, Dispel Magic, and a third one I forget), will we be using this as written in the book (spell lists that require MP and to have skill ranks in them)
  • A few things in regards to positive and negative energy. Do these match up precisely to Life and Death in EoM, and will the Dhampir's negative energy affinity behave the same way.

Apologies if those have been asked/answered previously, I did look.

Sovereign Court

Sure, if you don't need the mechanics to make your decision, I'll wait and see. I haven't thought of the point buy with regards to the race yet. I know the plant type is 10, but I also know Kly will be vulnerable to fire (with your override - the vulnerability stipulates having planar heritage, but I think a plant might be susceptable) and have natural armor due to its "skin". Beyond that, the jury is still out.

Regarding classes, I thought cleric might make the most sense. The evangelist archetype might do well with him given his cause. I am not completely decided though. If chosen, I'll nail it down.

Well, I think it's high time I throw my hat into the ring, looking to get back into some PbP games and this seems like a good one to do it with, let's see if my writing still holds up! Sent you a PM regarding some of the specifics in this Kibeth, let me know what you think and I'll be able to finalize this a bit more.

Basics:
Name: Lineera Kinafin

Race: Drow

Class: Cleric or Magic Class or Generally Necromancer of some kind... still in the works.

Alignment:
TN "(In character) I believe in protecting the welfare of all the peoples of the world. People tend to want to add terms like "good" or "evil" to people, but I personally think this just gets in the way. While many in the church do much great work, often times tenets or bureaucracy or restrictions can get in the way of this.

Not to say that these don't serve their purpose, but it was a coalition of people from all walks of life, the good, the bad, the misguided, who in the end saved us from the Planar Wars by creating the Planar Seal. If we hold that one way of doing things is inherently better than the other without exception, then we not only deny ourselves from seeking out the best path, but we forget the contributions of those who came before us in those dark times.

But um, sorry, I'm getting off track. I seek to help all people, live fulfilled lives, and when the time comes as it does to all people, help them greet their deaths with peace instead of anxiety. Sometimes doing this requires doing things some find unsavory, but for the good of the people, it's a small price. Uh, does that explain it?"

Appearance:
Lineera stands a modest 5'8" (by Drow standards) and weighs in at 121lbs. With the typical white hair and eyes and grey skin of her people, Lineera fails to stand out in the crowd with exception to her blithe smiles. Unlike most Drow who while still polite, and friendly, Lineera's smiles show her unguarded nature and never seem to be hiding anything themselves.

Her hair, which loose would fall to her shoulder blades, is typically tied up in a no frills ponytail. While she doesn't take a particularly elaborate approach to her grooming, she is fastidious about it. Every other day (or every day if involved in sweaty work at the time) days, she baths thoroughly, applying perfumes and oils afterwards. In terms of clothing, she is alas plagued by the skimpy clothing that tends to plague the Drow. Attempts to blend into society at large (which may well frown upon this) has led to her typically being covered head to ankle in a long, black, hooded cloak. But as not a full Robe, the loose fastenings tend to give the average viewer an understanding that not that much else lies beneath.

When in cities or cultures that frown upon such a method of dress, Lineera often reveals her clothes to in fact be a set of Glammared Full Plate, which she usually keeps hidden out of her personal sense of aesthetics. The only hint of this is the magic radiating off of her and her well toned muscles implying a more rigorous life-style than she seems to lead. And the fact that the flail hanging at her side doesn't seem to constantly bruise her thigh. On her right arm, a wooden shield bound in leather and rimmed with steel with the markings of a skull, which she appears to have attempted to make smile.

Most would view Lineera as a quite attractive women, but as always, matters of taste can change this opinion substantially.

Lineera Kinafin Example

Personality:
Chipper would be an exageration, but Lineera is generally surrounded in an infectious state of relaxed happiness. Those in her company usually find her be peaceful and uplifting to be around, assuming of course that they're not attempting to take advantage of her or find her beliefs abrassive.

Depending on who you ask, Lineera may be seen as either a pacifist or a constant aggressor. She is indeed equipped for and thoroughly prepared for a fight in most circumstances, but she typically chooses to try to avoid conflict verbally, and disarm her opponents should that fail. All that said, assuming she sees or hears of something she views as an afront to good folk, she'll go charging after whomever it is to attempt to give them a stern lecture (which then often leads to a fight). But even when delivering such a lecture, she typically comes off as friendly, and calming, as her demeanor seems to not let her do much besides.

Her religious views bring her into conflict with many due to her views on undeath, which views them as a way to honor the dead, by allowing them to continue to serve their living family and the good of mankind, as their souls enjoy the afterlife. As such, Lineera still views sentient undeath as an abomination.

Lineera typically has a hard time relating to people when it comes to her pechant for dressing and acting somewhat creepy. As a priestess shrouded in black robes, usually followed by a small throng of undead, and then acting like it's merely a nice day for a stroll, tends to unnerve people. Her attempts to not unnerve people have been an ongoing, but always failing.

Ten Minute Background:
Background Elements:

#1. Grew up underground in a large, primarily Drowish city. Populace was far more traditionally Chaotic Evil than Lineera. This society greatly disapproved of undeath despite this. This in large part led Lineera to her conclusion that undeath wasn't that bad by disassociation from where she grew up.

#2. Was born into a noble family in the underground before fleeing to pursue more selfless goals than her family. Wishes to keep heritage a secret.

#3. Used to belong to the church of Pharasma, but left on bad terms due to Lineera's lenient views on undeath. [Following depends on class taken, whether or not EoM is used, etc.] Currently, either follows Charon, or has gone rogue as a sorceror who practices necromancy/healing magicks, but still worships Pharasma personally. Has traveled the land, helping people whenever she can and attempts to spread her beliefs in this way.

#4. Lineera seeks companionship, as her upbringing, religious views, and traveling lead her to being near constantly alone, and even with company rarely forming close friendships.

#5. Lineera has a love of alchohol, rarely does it delve into excess, but she views it as another way to ease the suffering of people. Personally, she tends to prefer hard liquors, though will normally only drink one to two shots.

Goals:

#1. Lineera wishes to return home someday to convince people of the error of their ways. However, due to her disbelief that she could convince them of such, has distant dreams of one day returning as a conqueror... perhaps.

#2. Lineera wishes to marry someday, though hasn't generally given it much thought and only expects to actively pursue such matters in the distant future.

Secrets:

#1. Lineera's departure from the church of Pharasma was only in part due to her conflicting beliefs. In truth her primary motive was to evade her family, who she's learned is looking for her.

#2. Despite actively pursuing and maintaining an altruistic lifestyle, Lineera always feels the pull of her ancestry to act in a purely selfish manner.

People:

#1. Relonar Kinafin, Lineera's father. Constantly looking for her, Lineera avoids him with all her being for fear of punishment or being taken back to her home city. Unbeknownst to her, he actually shares much of her morality, and used searching for her as an excuse to escape the Drowish city himself (and his wife).

#2. Legault Moore, Lineera's mentor in the church of Pharasma. Initially, Legault took this starry-eyed youth under his wing with her pleas to hide her from her family. But as the years came and went, this human priest eventually came to regret it, as Lineera's off-colored views of undeath came to reflect badly on him. While the church put up with her as a nuissance for some time, he was ultimately happy to see her go.

#3. Slagors "Ol' Thatcher.: A rustic and aging Hobgoblin from a small fishing and farming community, Ol' Thatcher served as both a village elder and general repairman for the community. Slagors stepped in for Lineera as during her travels, he found her on the verge of being ran out of town for her necromancy. Willing to hear her offer, he made the inroads for her to help the community with undead she brought with her to assist with the harvest, while she attended to recently injured and ill farmers with traditional medicine.

In return, Slagors provided her with food and board during her stay, and listened to her own philosophy on life and death. While he listened, and certainly appreciated what Lineera was attempting to do with necromancy, he still believed her to be naive and misguided about the practice, but the two parted on good terms.

Quirks:

#1. Lineera tends to bite her lip when she's nervous, but quickly stops if she notices someone looking at her. A result of her mother's stern discipline.

#2. Lineera loves spicy food, and while she'll typically (and poorly) attempt to hide her enthusiasm, she's willing to pay far more than the food is worth to obtain it.

#3. Lineera's afraid of thunder and lightning, due to never being exposed to it as a child, due to living underground. As such, she tends to shun mages who dabble or otherwise practice any form of lightning magic.

#4. Her view of necromancy as a good thing, makes her comfortable around corpses, regardless of the state of decomposition. The smell can still get to her though.

Roleplaying Sample:

Ol' Thatcher was performing his namesake, thatching. Mrs. Donnel's roof had sprung a leak, and he was hoping to get it finished before tomorrow's likely rain. A voice called to him.

"Hey, Thatcher! How're you today?" Slagors shimmied to the edge of the roof and looked down to see Lineera peering up at him.

"What brings you back out to the sticks Lineera? Thought you left yesterday." The aging hobgoblin asked.

"Oh, I did, but I wasn't really sure where to go, so I just ended up camping by the spring."

Ol' Thatcher nodded, urging her to continue.

"But while I was camped, I thought about what you said, about the zombies creeping everyone out, right? And I think I got a solution!" Lineera flashed a wide smile, which the Hobgoblin returned widely and toothily.

"Really? Well, I'll have to see for myself before I believe that!"

"Well prepare to be dazzled then."

Slagors looked at the clouds, it was probably a few hours before it rained at least, and he was close to finishing anyway. "Alright, alright, but this won't take long will it? Need to finish here before the storm comes." Lineera nodded, looking at the clouds with a small frown on her lips.

"Don't worry, I want to get out of here before the storm rolls in anyway, I'll only need you for the next few minutes."

The old goblinoid shimmied his way off the roof, and with a nod, the two set off for the edge of town.

Upon getting close to their destination, Lineera put her hands on Slagor's shoulders.

"They're just around that bend. Now close your eyes, I want it to be a surprise."

Slagors rolled his eyes, but then oblidgingly closed them. Feeling the taller elf direct him, Slagors shambled along on his bowed-legs until abruptly he was spun to his right.

"Ok, now just a second, got to get them ready. ...Ok, now open!" Slagors was greeted to the sight of Lineera flanked by four black robed figures flanking her as she stood proudly in the middle with a broad smile. Upon a deeper, though still passing inspection, Slagors realized the zombies of yesterday were now stripped down to mere skeletons, and that the robes were in fact spare cloaks of Lineera's that she apparently had on hand.

"I was thinking about what you said, about the smell? Well I thought about it and you're right, so I stripped them down to just the bones, and then added the cloaks to help disguise the fact that they're dead. So ta da, less creepy undead! What do you think?" Slaggors shuffled uncomfortably for a moment, but hobgoblins weren't known for their tact, so he wasn't going to bother.

"Well they do smell less, I'll give you that. But it's still pretty obvious they're dead, you can see the feet. And even if you couldn't, the hoods may be deep but you can still tell there's just a skull in there if you look for more than a second, so they're not that disguised really. Also, the matching cloaks really make it look like they're part of some death cult, whether before or after they died. So they don't stink yeah, but they're still undead cultists."

Lineera sagged a bit.

"But uh, y'know, it's still progress!" Slagors did his best to put on a big smile, which Lineera returned though diminished.

"Yeah, I guess so. Well, thanks for the critique, but I best get going before that storm gets here, say hi to Mrs. Donnel for me!"Clearly resisting letting the setback get her down, Lineera smiled more forcefully as she bid farewell.

Ol' Thatcher waved as she climbed on her horse, while the four skeletons situated themselves behind her to begin pulling a wagon. "Oh and one more thing, Lineera? You may want to see if you can trade your horse with someone, a black steed along with everything is just going to make people nervous!"

Lineera laughed as she began to trot away, "But I like the black! I have to do some things for myself after all!" The two waved to each other one last time and went their separate ways.

Whoops, looks like in my haste to make sure I had everything down while I had time, I kinda derped parts of the Ten-Minute Background. So I guess we get a bonus round!

Player Goal:
#3. Personally, I want to see Lineera shake up the religious landscape with her beliefs. Maybe in the end she gets branded a heretic and gets burned at the stake (kinda hope not on that part), or maybe she manages to found her own religion. Or perhaps end up exchanging some serious words with Pharasma herself, maybe convincing her of her views, maybe not. All I know is that as a player, that's what I want to see for her.

Secrets:
#3. Already addressed in a different section, but Lineera's father, who is actively hunting her right now, is actually doing so to ally himself with her. As opposed to drag her back in chains or worse as she fears.

Memories/Quirks/Mannerisms:
Here's just a couple of memories that I forgot to include in the initial build.

#1. Lineera remembers her departure from her home town. She'd left officially on a raid to capture slaves to help the city's (and more importantly, her family) economy. Once clear of the city, she rode with several others for days, until one night she stole one of their mounts and fled until it died from exhaustion. Then ran until she stumbled upon Legault, begging Sanctuary of him.

#2. Sometimes Lineera wishes she could return to the Temple of Pharasma that she came from, but the barely hidden smile that was on Legault's face the day she left tells her to just stay away.

Alright!

@Peanuts - That is correct. Well, they do scale in caster level to a certain degree in that if you're lower caster level you won't be able to increase your duration appropriately. That being said, they make up for this by having the default duration be 1 minute on most action types. AoE and spell sniping are slightly more costly, but that's probably fine.
We will be using the skills as in the book. I think they're cooler that way. Iirc, and I'll confirm this if relevant to a particular character or encounter, undead in EoM are simply immune to Evoke Death and cannot be healed by Heal Life. They take 1.5x damage from Evoke Life (and if that's not actually the case, that's how it'll work). Dhampir will work the same way in that regard.

Now then, are there any PMs I haven't answered besides Davachido and Duderlybob? @Davachido - I'm not ignoring you, I just remember your pms being largely mechanics related. We'll sort that out later if/when it's necessary. @Duderlybob - I'm about to look at what you've sent me.

So, I can't update the OP. So far, this is what I have for applicants, including applications sent in a PM. If I have forgotten or missed you in some way, let me know.

Wow. There sure are a lot of you. Thanks a lot - seriously, this means a lot. It's nice to actually have interest drummed up for your game. I'm expanding the selection to 8 players. Decisions will be made next week after applications close and my dad's surgery. Thanks again.

You forgot me.

I have the BG, race, and stuff in the profile since I can't copy and paste. Today is a school day though so I might have a chance to use a real computer, if so I'll copy it all over to this thread.

Does the untrained knowledge skill max of DC 15 still apply?

Also since I am designing my own game, I am curious about your reason for the knowledge skill houserules. Such insights always help with game design.

My apologies Valza, I remember now that you had mentioned that earlier.

Yes, it still applies, generally. I find that a lot of the skills as they are mechanically are pretty straightforward but not necessarily the most realistic. If you know something, generally speaking, you know it. You may have to take time or focus (making the check) to conjure up more details and such, but for the most part, you know what you know off the top of your head to a certain degree in a subject or field you have been trained in. It's similar logic to why passive perception checks are in my games as well. When you walk into a room or in a given situation, you're always perceiving. How much time you put into detecting the details or hard you're trying to catch things you normally wouldn't have seen if you were just walking by is variable (making the check), but it's not as if your senses are dead until you turn them on. And the more you're trained in picking up the details, the easier it is for you to do passively.

Sczarni

let me know if the construct monk thing is a cool idea, if so I'll finish fleshing out it's mechanics

Scarab Sages

RP Sample:

The jeers and cheers of the crowd reverberated through Tondrick's skull. Their faces staring towards the drawn circle, an arena of blood and sweat, two giants battling for their lives fought there, raining blow after blows upon each other, neither willing to give up. Baloric Herdpounder circled to the right, bringing his great blade in a swinging arc, dipping under Torkil's guard, splitting the skin and flesh of his hip, blood seeping from the riven muscle. Smiling, Baloric taunted, "Your time is up old man, this tribe has been following tradition too long, been in hiding too long, it is time to change, time to open up to the wider world, time for a new person to lead, and with my strength, and the support of my chosen, I will do this!"

"It may well be time for things to change, but it is not you Baloric, son of Bandor, who will be the one to force that change, you are seeped in dark secrets, and are not a honorable man. Even if I fall, one day your lack of honor will come to be your death..." Torkil responded, limping a bit from his wound, trying to hide his discomfort.

"I guess only time...and currently, my blade will tell!" And as he says this, Baloric raises his blade over his head, the sun flashing off the polished blade, brighter then seemed normal, the blinding flash causes Torkil to shut his eyes for a brief second...one second too long. Tondrick cries out in anger and rage as Baloric's blade sinks into his fathers shoulder, into his chest, almost cleaving him in twain. As his father slumps to the ground, a pool of blood spreading to mix with the mud...his vision grows hazy, rage taking over....

Waking up in a cold sweat, his dagger clenched tightly in his fist, Tondrick shakes his head, trying to get the last vestiges of the reoccurring nightmare out of his head, Sandra turns over in the bed and caresses his chest lightly, trying to calm him, to sooth the pain that he only shows in sleep....

Did you want me to retool the 10-minute background into bullet points? Easily done if the background story thing isn't what you wanted.

Alright well thanks for answering my questions so far! I have decided to go with a goblin Gunslinger named Ziggs. I got intimidated by the EoM system when I decided to try and create my own spells and figured I should stick with something I know a bit better until I see EoM in action. Besides I was able to create better fluff for the slinger. It is in my profile but it is still unorganized and I have yet to get the sample rollplaying in it yet. I got a few that I want to put into it :)
So add Ziggs (incomp) to the list! I should have it finished written up by tonight tho I will probably be adding to it and tweaking it for weeks to come....

Yikes! 32 applicants! Only 1 in 4 will make the cut! Looks like I got direct competition with Rotolutundro as well. Sorry, did I say competition? I ment companionship of course of course.
Starts muttering to himself "That keg of boompowder? Wonder if Ziggs could send keg by mail? How big a fuse would Ziggs need for that? Wait. What!? You guys is still here? Do not be interrupting Ziggs when he is monologuing his not evil, is very nice plans!!!"
BOOM!!!

@Roto - You're good. I almost liked it better that way, honestly.

@lantzkev - If you're going to play a construct, we need to talk, but that'll be after decisions. Constructs just don't exist yet. Or they do but... Well, I'm not at liberty to talk about it.

Also, there are 32 applicants including Gobo when that goes up. I forgot O-Quest (My apologies, You're counted now), I listed Stratos twice, and Domovarian is Towershield. For the record Tower, I thought your brother was also apping. You should really stick to your own pilfered handle :P.

@lantzkev: I've always wanted to make a Large or Huge Construct Monk, and call him Ultraman.

@Kibeth: Man, you've got a lot of applicants. I do not envy the job you have.

I assume Magi/Bards/Inquisitors use the same CL/MP progression as the Mageknight in the EOM doc?

@DM Kibeth: That's alright, if we are going to work out how to make the concept work if you select me I'm fine with whatever we end up going with as long as it works mechanically.

Liberty's Edge

Phantom F. Harlock III
Human (Advanced (+4 DEX, -2 STR, +2 INT, +2 WIS, +2 CHA), Advanced Dexterity, Drop Skilled)
Rogue 8

Alignment: Nuetral Good. What did law and order do for the people of Rayne? Systematize the addiction of its people to mana potions. Was it honorable combat which turned the tide in the Dragon Wars? No. It was the Wizard-King doing what needed to be done for the good of the mortal races. Good is not contingent on the rule of law, but instead on our ability to consider it clearly at each moment. A man should act with honor in his dealings with others, but the good of the mortal races comes first.

Appearance: Something like this...

Personality: Harlock is a stoic, serious man. He values loyalty and honor above all else, and will be extremely reluctant to break his promises. A mans word is the only contract which Harlock considers binding. Harlock has a soft spot for children and for those striving to make the best of situations beyond their control. Despite his otherwise serious demeanor Captain Harlock loves being dramatic.

Ten Minute Background

Part I - Core Concepts

1) Harlock was in the Special Operations Task Force, a secret group in the heirarchy of the Raynian military, for nearly 12 years. During this time he performed artifact retrieval, prisoner recovery, and a multitude of other hush-hush military missions.

2) During the Rayne border expansion wars against the native tribes in the Reaches Harlock was assigned to guard a drug cartels mana potion shipments into the region. Begrudgingly Harlock accepted his orders until he came into direct contact with the tribes and in particular their future leader, Domri. His encounters left him convinced that the actions of the government of Rayne were not in the best interest of anyone and because of this he decided he was done with them.

3) Harlock had heard leaked information about a project being worked on by the top minds of Rayne, a piece of technomancy which would change the face of warfare. Harlock and the few men who he had convinced to stand beside him infiltrated the facilities where the device was being built and, through luck and finely coordinated teamwork, reach the machine they had been working on. Harlock's team had found an airship and thanks to planning his team had worked out how to pilot it. Christening the ship Arcadia the crew and her new captain piloted the ship away and into the endless skies.

4) Harlock's crew consists of his first mate, Arstil Dawnbreaker, twin pilots Sen and Ars Lupricus, weapons officer Cyril Strong, and a host of others who have since proven themselves worthy of fighting alongside Harlock.

5) Currently Harlock is trying to find a way to make the ship immune to magical divination as well as to prying eyes below.

Part II - Goals

1) Harlocks first order of business is to retrieve Emmeralda Dawnbreaker and her daughter from custody. Following that Harlock wants to end the slave trade in Rayne, end the mana potion trade in Rayne and beyond, and help to end the colonization of Vax. And he wants to have all of that done by lunch so he can spend the afternoon getting actual work done.

2) As a player I want to see all of those story-lines happen, but I want to see the consequences of stealing super-secret technology play out.

Part III - Secrets

1) (Aware) Harlock was the mastermind behind an operation for the Raynian government which caused a great deal of civilian death ostensibly for the greater good. He is not very proud of this.

2) (Unaware) Harlock's first mate and oldest friend has been sending secret reports to the Raynian government in order to ensure that his wife and child are kept alive. This haunts Arstil each day.

Part IV - People

1) Arstil Dawnbreaker is the yang to Harlock's yin. Arstil is 29, only a year older than Harlock, and has been working with him ever since they were both brought into the SOTF all those years ago. Arstil is short, black of hair, and has an average face and slight build. His preferred weapon is a revolver which he recieved for ten years of service in the SOTF. Engraved on the gun is the skull and bones which the crew of the Arcadia have taken for their banner.

2) Sen and Ars Lupricus are a set of fraternal twins who do the bulk of the science onboard the ship. They are techmatugrical geniuses who together implemented a great deal of the principles which helped create the Arcadia. The two were initially taken as hostages but have since become crew members of the Arcadia in part because they agree with the noble (if lofty) goals of Harlock, and in part because their allegience to Rayne was never what drew them to the project in the first place. The twins are goofy, young, and love to joke around with the crew.

3) Emmeralda Dawnbreaker is the wife of Arstil. She too was a member of the Special Operations Task Force, but was assigned to a mission far removed from the recent happenings with Harlock. Because of this when Emmeralda returned she was taken as hostage along with her daughter in order to ensure that Arstil would continue to send reports on the Arcadia.

4) Cyril Strong is the crews weapons officer. He loves big guns, big booms, and groan-worthy puns. He is a staunch ally of Harlock, and mentored him when he was brought into the Special Operations Task Force. Cyril's loud, bouisterous nature can be overwhelming at first and the ease at which he transitions from leisure mode to his serious work mode can be a bit jarring. Cyril is nearing fourty years old and simply wants to live out the rest of his life sailing the endless skies with Harlock and the crew of the Arcadia.

Part V - Memories and Mannerisms

1) Harlock puts honor before reason. If he is chasing someone critical through a cemetary he would rather let them get away than trample roughshod over the graves of the fallen.

2) Harlock lost his right eye during a mission when he was twenty-two.

3) As mentioned earlier Harlock loves the dramatic and when presented with a practical and effective method of solving a problem, and a dramatic but slightly less effective method he will choose the dramatic method every time.

Thanks for all the work on this so far Kibeth. And just to say it officially, regarding any mechanics gripes I got, referring to my PM, none of that is that big of a deal in my book, just some things I wanted to do for flavorful shenanigans. Assuming that's a deal breaker though, I just want to say up front that I'm not going to be a rabble-rouser if you say no.

...Just in case that'd be a tie breaker for who gets in or no. As we are at a 1/4 acceptance rate, just wanted to make sure I put that in there! :P

Also, not sure if you'd want to, but in case you're interested, I'd be interested in tying my backstory and whatnot into the world at large more. Avoided doing so at first as I wasn't sure I wanted to go mucking about with something you've been working on for years as you mentioned. Otherwise as my background states, I'm mainly wandering, so if you just want to plunk me wherever is convenient for plot/party forming, I'm down with that.

Yeesh, didn't realize there were quite that many applicants, so you'll have to cull 3/4s to pick the party. Good luck, and I hope I make the cut :p Will be an interesting campaign to watch either way I suspect.

@dunebugg - Yep, 3/4s caster. Inherently makes these classes a little weaker in terms of overcoming SR, but I think I made a new feat for the magus to deal with that a little, and bards and inqs don't really mess with SR enough for me to bother.

@Vamptastic - I just sifted through most of the applications. It was unpleasant.

It's the big MP loss I'm worried about opposed to actual caster level. And 20% reduction from your archetype.. I will make it work :)

DM Kibeth wrote:

@Vamptastic - I just sifted through most of the applications. It was unpleasant.

You know, there are a few ways to interpret that answer. I'll just assume everybody had such quality applications and it was unpleasant having to choose. :P

@Vamptastic - Haha that would be the case. Well, that and actually reading through all 30 was just tedious.

@dunebugg - Well, I can tell you right now that since you steal MP, it's really quite fine. We've playtested the archetype. It's effective.

I want to go ahead and apologize in advance; I really didn't expect this much of a turnout, and if I had the time, I'd run two games.

I'm all giddy and curious about who's being picked, now.

Whoever ends up being chosen is going to have a blast. I'm with Vamp on this one. Definitely interested in seeing how this goes.

Presenting Chandra, Sister of the Night; Luna Magus (Spellthief)

10 minute backstory:

Background / Concept:
- A member of the Sisters of the Night: a group of Luna who are primarily made of Spellthieves. The Sisters of the Night dedicate themselves with the collection of magical knowledge and items in the name of their goddess, to see it that it is not misused.
- She takes her charge of protecting magic with great care and seriousness
- She does her best to embody the strengths of the Luna race (stealth, and magic)
- Born to an elven family, Chandra learned their ways before that of the Luna. Once she reached adulthood she began to seek out other members of her own race, who are few and far between.
- Chandra is very wary about working with allies who cannot keep up with her stealth and guile, as that is her preferred method of dealing with most situations

Goals:
- She is searching for a powerful magic item that has fallen into the hands of somebody who is either currently misusing it, or plans to misuse it's power in the near future
- I would like for her to eventually become a powerful leader of her local group of Sisters of the Night

Secrets:
- (Known) Although she is a Spellthief of growing power, Chandra's faith in her goddess has began to wane (ha). Her Sisters of the Night have seemingly become distant, making Chandra feel like she has done something to anger them or her goddess. While she puts on a strong face, her resolve is beginning to crumble.
- (Unknown) Chandra's local group of Sisters of the Night have become corrupt, and are slowly trying to get her to join their cause.. or kill her. They are using magic for their own power gain, and are likely the group that holds the item Chandra seeks.

People:
- Lady Silviana (hostile): The current leader of her local Sisters of the Night. Her intelligence is said to be surpassed solely by her charm, and she relies heavily on illusions and charm magic to further the goals of the Sisters of the Night. She is Chandra's mentor and closest friend. Lady Silviana is still trying to decide whether or not Chandra can be turned, or she will have to kill her instead.
- Yalandlara (friendly): Chandra's mother, an elf. The two share a strong connection as they are both strong magi, but do not see eye to eye as Yalandlara is a mage of light magics. The two have very different approaches to solving problems which can cause them to butt heads, but they always make it through stronger as mother and daughter.
- Curio (friendly): A gnome item crafter. Chandra has become quick friends with the gnome, as he has a deep respect for magic even though sometimes he will put it to strange uses (why would you waste magic on creating shooting lights of multiple colors that have no effect other than entertainment?) Curio always has a smile on his face and owns his own shop near the base of the Sisters of the Night.

Mannerisms/Quirks:
- Chandra does her best to avoid going out during the daylight, as the eyes of the Luna are best suited for dark or shadowed areas. She even shirks away from torches and other light sources, relying on her darkvision instead. When forced to go out during day, she keeps her hood up at all times
- Her fondest memories were training with Lady Silviana. Darting from shadow to shadow, jumping out from hiding to startle the other. Practising illusions, seeing who could create a more believable image.
- Meditating on her magic always help Chandra calm down in a stressful situation. Her favourite nights are going through the spells in her mind and books sitting under the light of a full moon.

Race:
LUNA
On rare occasions when a daughter is born underneath a full moon, an elf or human mother may give birth to a Luna. Blessed by the goddess of the moon and magic, these females are born with a strong connection to the shadows of night and the elements of magic. Relying on their quick reflexes and wit more than their brawn, they are born to be the guardians of magic.

Physical Description:
Luna appear very similar to human females, save for their silver eyes and hair. Only female Luna are born, and only to human, elf, and half-elf mothers. If born to an elf or half-elf mother, Luna will retain the pointed ears of their ancestry. Luna can only birth human, elf, and half-elf children.

Society:
Luna are usually raised by the race they are born to, and tend not to have their own society. There exist small factions, such as the Sisters of the Night that are made up of primarily Spellthieves, but they still operate more like a business than an actual community.

Relations:
Luna are seen as a blessing by most elf and half-elf communities. Humans can be somewhat distrustful of the race because of their shadow affinity but Luna are rarely shunned.

Alignment and Religion:
Luna tend towards a lawful neutral or true neutral alignment, as their intended purpose as a race is to protect magical in all forms, and prevent it from being abused. They traditionally worship the goddess of the moon and magic, as it was she who truly gave birth to the Luna.

Adventurers:
Luna are almost always magi of some sort, as their natural tendencies as a race are to use and protect magic. It is extremely rare for a Luna to walk the path of a non-magic class, but in those rare occasions their proficiency with stealth and shadows come into play.

"Yalandlara, dismiss that light spell! I can't see properly with it up, you know that." Chandra closed her eyes furiously, scowling in the direction of the elven woman in the doorway.

"My daughter, it is so dark in here. How am I to help you locate this item you seek if I cannot see? I can barely make out the words on the page, let alone take my notes. Would it help if I dimmed it a bit?" The elf stepped through the doorway, dismissing her bright light and casting a dimmer one in its place. "And why will you still not call me mother? I wish somedays that I had given birth to a normal elven girl. With an exaggerated sigh she sat down next to Chandra.

Chandra shook out her silvery hair and tied it up in a neat ponytail. "Come now, all daughters of the night are a blessing to elven mothers. And you know my true mother is not you, even though you gave birth to me. If only we could be birthed by our own kind, I wouldn't have been so troubled by learning all your silly elven traditions and could have spent longer on my magical studies!" Chandra's silver eyes smiled at her mother, as she did her best to keep her laughter contained. "Now that I can see properly again -- no, don't wave that light in my face! -- we can resume locating this item. It hasn't been used in some time, or your scrying and divinations should have been able to detect it. It can only be a matter of time, now..."

I have most of the crunch done... Just picking out my spell lists mostly, which is taking quite some time haha. Wanted to get my submission in before the deadline :)

Liberty's Edge

DM, maybe you should give thought to finding a like-minded DM (harder than it sounds) who likes your idea and wants to run a similar game, and then just go "OK, you got the backdrop, now here's 30-something applicants who still want in! I've picked some I like, now you pick some. Have fun!"

A world with multiple DMs and multiple players traveling through it? I've had fever dreams about such campaigns, but only in dreams where wax wings do not melt would I dare fly so high.

Well I managed to finish it! I present to you Ziggs the Goblin Gunslinger :D
Sorry to make you read through another application Kibeth :b

Name: Ziggs
Race: Goblin
Class: Pistolero Gunslinger
Alignment: NE. Ziggs was once a regular goblin, and with that came the races tendency towards free spirited and petty cruelty. Over time he has mellowed out from his experiences in war and gained a healthy respect for command. As time goes on and he starts to become more humane, he will lose his more besidal tendencies and show more capacity for compassion.
Appearance: 2'11," 33 lbs of short green Goblin with hugely large ears slung over his back with a hole in the right one. He wears a gaudy olive green and very tattered uniform. He is covered in bells, whistles chain links and noisemakers often sporting a loop or two in the hole in his ears. His beady little eyes shine with a piercing red stare and his overtly large mouth sports vicious, dagger like teeth in a perpetually mischievous grin. He wields a single pistol in his left hand.
Personality: Loves noise. Carries plenty of loud and noisy odds and ends on his person so he can dance when he wants to be joyful. Others generally dislike this. Off the battlefield he loves to drink his favorite beer, Bufo and swapping war stories. If he feels particularly emboldened he might jump up and sing a goblin song and dance a little jig to the bemusement of those around. When more sober he is more inclined to stare and observe people, always on the lookout for trouble so he can join in the fun. He is mischievous to a fault and a lover of pranks always on the lookout for a chance to slip a toad under someones seat or drop a spider in a gals hair or swap someones fine wine with Bufo (he loves that one :).

More notes on character description:

Alignment: NE
While not cruel or spiteful Ziggs makes murder his trade. A solder for hire, Ziggs will eliminate those in front of him with extreme prejudice and noise. Ziggs has rose from the ranks of the goblin masses and like any other goblin, was capricious and cruel. Fom his experiences in 3 seperate wars, he has mellowed out considerably and could almost be considered civilized. The more he interacts and comes to care for those around him the more he sheds his 'monstrous' heritage and thrus far, almost to the point where he could be considered kind.

Appearance
Like all goblins he is short and spindly, with big ears and an overtly large head filled with sharp pointy daggers. his beady eyes alight with cruelty and a calculated sharpness, yet if you were to look long enough you just might see flashes of compassion and hints of mirth. His mischievous grin always hinting at a practical joke or prank often giving you the impression you were going to find out why real soon.
A special mention must go to his ears for they are so large, almost comically so, as to put even the floppiest bunny to shame. Coming down well past his waist he could and often would wear them as a cape and in a pinch went a long way to keeping warm on those cold, lonely nights.

Covered in bells, jingles and jangles Ziggs is often seen sporting his Somarian the Fourths Regimental Solders Uniform. This tattered green uniform, covered in rings, bells and noisemakers has so many holes in it and clashes so badly with Ziggs as to make your eyes hurt. He looks like a misshappen patchwork of olive green, goblin green, silver and steel with a big toothy grin in the middle. Smile! Wrapped around his right arm is a brown bandoleer and in his left, an oversized pistol, battered and bloody, affectionately named his "Boom Cannon" with its pair, "Flashfire" at his waist. Slung arcross his back can often be found a keg of blackpower with the word "EXPLOSIVES" ettched into its side. Why any sane character would strap something so volatile to its back says plenty about the goblinoid known as ziggs.

Personality
A lover of music and a charming creature of wit and mirth, Ziggs is anything but. His "music" consists of making as much noise as possible and screeching along with it. In battle he is a right terror with his Boom Cannon, enhanced to make extra noise sending off deafening cracks while he shrieks with glee.
in the bar, when emboldened with his favorite beer, Boer, will start up a rancourous goblin song and dance a jig, jingles, chains and bells clanging away merrily. To humans it sounds like a dying cat in a garbage can with a blender going and kicked down the curb for good measure. Upon hearing it , Ziggs usually gets kicked to the curb for good measure too.
Aside from his love of noise Ziggs has been known to be almost kind towards his companions, a rare trait among goblinkind indeed. Truth be told Ziggs is quite capable of both compassion and kindness to those he cares about, usually his war buddies, and remains loyal to those who are in command above him and those who are under his charge.
This can be seen as his slow progression from an ordinary CE goblin to true neutral and eventually (possibly) lawful good as he gains more respect for command and greater capacity toward emotion, gaining a sense of humanity about him. This would most likely be sneered at or even thought abhorrent by his fellow goblins.

Feats:

OR Point Blank Shot, Deadly Aim and Rapid Shot if I stay pure gunslinger
The rest will be from this pool:
No Name, Ricochet Shot, Clustered Shots, Precise Shot, Alertness, Big Game Hunter, Deceitful or Skill Focus.

All this mostly speculated and easily changed.

Ten Minute Background:

Step 1: Background and concept elements
Highly observant
Wields an oversized revolver called his Boom Cannon
He got his weapons from watching a band of gunslingers from Aeonar fight with a group of angry bears. He raided the corpses and found a few that worked.
Big flappy ears on an oversized head. He has a bullet hole in the right one
NE he kills for a living, used to be chaotic, recently is becoming more 'civilized.'
Claims he is a 'vegitarian' that only eats meat
His favorite food is cats
Loves sound (he hasn't gone deaf yet!!)
He has seen much in his short 13 year lifespan. He has participated in 3 wars and traveled half way across the contenent in his quest to get to Aeonar, the city of Guns.

Step 2: Goals
Wants to travel to Aeonar to repair his shabby gun. He doesnt know it yet but when he gets there he is going to get it gold plated
He wants to fire a cannon. His biggest dream is to be a siege commander firing his 'Battalion o' Cannons' and demolishing a city. He loves the big guns.
I want him to mature as he adventures. He used to be a run of the mill CE goblin but since joining the war, he has gained a respect for the command structure and military life. While not there yet, he is slowly moving towards lawful and while still evil, I want him to mature as he adventures and gain a semblance of humanity

Step 3: Secrets
He accidentally witnessed and disrupted a demon summoning ritual that then went amok. In the confusion he grabbed a Big Shiny and made off with it. He doesnt know what it is but he is pretty sure it is important and is also probably the reason those guys in the black robes with the demon pets keep coming after him. He keeps it because he thinks its funny, and its probably valuable...

He actually interrupted TWO rituals that day. The afore mentioned one and its counterpoint summoning spell ment to summon Asmodius, the Planetar Angel of destruction and retribution. The big shiny is the focal point to bring both sides into the mortal realm so they can wage their war. Nether side is happy with the loss of the artifact.

Step 4: Relationships
Albina the caravan master. He took on Ziggs to be a guard and was impressed by his courage and tenacity. Ziggs was instrumental with defending the caravan from an undead horde and necromancer. He blew off the necromancers head with a single shot causing the horde to lose coherency and be repelled. They separated ways somewhere near Rayne as ziggs continued on his journey to Aeonar.

Rogar the Somarian Army General. Ziggs fought in Rogars Fourth Regiment in its latest campaign. There he impressed Rogar during the capturing and razing of the town Korvosa and the suppression of the rebels of the New Sommarian Freedom Force. While Gatts, the leader of the NSFF escaped, they were able to put the uprising down. It was during these campaigns that Ziggs saw the Somarian Armys cannons in action. It was love at first sight.

Stabbedgutz the goblin chieftain of the Vex Valley goblin tribe. He exiled Ziggs for fear of his new found power and influence. He fearded he would lose out against the young goblin and his "Boom Sticks" and so pre-emptively struck at Ziggs's warband. While spears and clubs were no match for gunpowder, Ziggs's warband was annihilated. In a rage, Ziggs slew the remainder of the invading force and went to confront Stabbedgutz. He was repelled when Stabbedgutz banished him with the backing of the whole tribe. Ziggs rage smolders within him to this day.

Step 5: Quirks
Ziggs has a hole in his oversized right ear from the time he was learning about his Boom Sticks and fired one "the wrong way". This hole whistles in high winds or if Ziggs flails his head around violently. He likes this and calles it his whistler. Its like nose whistling except with his ears :P

Ziggs first stumbled apon a group of hunters in the Valley of Vax. He was curious so he tailed them. Later on the group found a wounded bear and shot it. This was the first time Ziggs had seen a gun being fired and was terrified. Well the bears family also heard it, and came to defend their wounded bear cub. The hunting party got wiped out and when the bears moved on, Ziggs inspected the bodies. He had a good ten guns that still worked, and he set about trying to figure out how they worked. Remembering the humans pointing and pulling the trigger, he did the same for all of them. Then he remembered the humans stuffing the white pellets into the barrels so he tried that. Much exploding guns and one bullet though his ear later he figured out how to load and fire a gun. The last thing he took from the corpses was an Aeonar Hunting Insignia. He now wants to go to Aeonar to learn more about guns.

Ziggs loves his uniform and sees it as a badge of honor. He gets upset when anyone offers to repair it as that would be covering up the wounds and trophies of war he has.
His uniform is the Somarian the Fourths Regimental Solders Uniform

He has been in 3 seperate wars, 1) in the Somarian army crushing the rebels, 2) In the Vax Valley goblin tribe against a rival tribe. He also postponed the war between the Planetar Angel Asmodius and an army of demons. They are not happy about this :)

Like all goblins Ziggs cant read. Unlike other goblins he seems to have an innate ability to occasionally gather meaning from the odd scribbles and lines on the wall and this scares him greatly. For whats worse? Words stealing thoughts from your mind or words putting something into your mind?

RP elements: In the works now!
_____Of Beer and Song_____
Albina walked through the wooden door and quickly surveyed his surroundings, there were few patrons in the aptly named Dusty Duke with a group of humans playing cards in the corner and a trio of brutish looking orcs off to the left drinking some foul substance no doubt. Albina shrugged, his charges would not like it much but it was a much needed place for some grub and drink. Signalling over his shoulder and proceeding to go sit down, he was followed in by 2 finely dressed and obviously uncomfortable elves trailed closely by a diminutive creature. A goblin! The barkeep was visibly unsettled by the sight of one of the normally destructive creatures and came over as the four sat down.
"Excuse me but the goblin..." The young lady had started to say when she was cut off by Albina.
"is with us. There will be no problems." A few gold coins shone in the dim light for a split second as they exchanged hands.
"Of corse" she replied. "And what would you fine gents want to drink?"
"I'll have the finest wine this drivel place has to offer" stated one of the elves obviously unaccustomed to such meagre accommodations. His partner, who seemed of much lower standing, possibly a servant, ordered some common wine further cementing his place below his companion.
"And you good sir?" Ignoring the goblin as she went.
"Ill have a shot of your Oldlaw Whiskey."
"Very good." she replied as she whisked away.
Albina started to protest "but..."
"Its fine Albina" the goblin interrupted him. "Besides, I brought Bufo!"
He uncorked the jug and the elves visibly grimaced revealing their discomfort.
Albina smiled inwardly, anyone that make that pompous elf uncomfortable was ok in his books.
"... must not be delayed on our journey, we must get to Rayne as soon as possible, maybe then I can get back to civilization."
Ignoring the high elf Albina looked sternly at the goblin.
"Your reading, Ziggs?"
"Them humans are harmless, but them orcs. They be sizing us up."
His ears missed nothing.
As the barkeep came back with the drinks Albina looked relieved.
"Good. Well you keep an eye on them, Id like to avoid trouble if I can."
"Will do." Ziggs replied, taking a swig. "Cant say I enjoy wine much but this is pretty good."
"BLEAGH! Hack! KOFF, KOFF"
The high elfs outburst startled everyone, well everyone excepts Ziggs.
"What is this foul stuff? Wait, what? Why you wretched goblin! You switched drinks on me!!!"
Albina couldnt help but smile, he was starting to like that goblin.

Later that evening when Albina was comfortably sated on whiskey, the high elf sullen but silent and Ziggs merry with that dazzled look he gets when drinking, the humans in the corner got up. Mildly interested, Albina glanced over and watched them pull out some instruments, first a fiddle then a flute. Next a harpsichord and lastly a set of drums. he was quite content to sit back and enjoy the music when he saw that mischievous look in Ziggs eye once again. Vaguely wondering if he should put a stop to whatever he was about to do but unwilling to move he watched as the small goblin got up and started towards the impromptu band. Now vaguely worried, he was about to get up when Ziggs started to dance. Falling back to his seat laughing instead at the sight of the comical goblin flailing about. The band spurned on by their diminutive dancer played all the harder laughing as they went.
Then Ziggs started to sing.

Round we go, round we go
Catch a squirrel, kill a mole
Start a fire and watch it glowww
Cook the mole. Not the squirrel!
Thats for fun you see

He had never heard the goblin singing before and although it was quite screechy it was amusing.

You can break its legs and watch it squirm
And for a treat you can eat its eyes
Whack it with a stick until it dieees
Thats the fun you see!

With that verse even the orcs started laughing and joining in by stomping their feet.

Round we go, round we go
Catch a squirrel, kill a mole
Start a fire and watch it glowww
Cook the mole. Not the squirrel!
Thats for fun you see

Now even the barkeep couldn't keep it in and was almost in tears at the sight of the goblin flailing and wailing about!

Now get your friend an gather round
Lets play a game with this rock I found
Its called tag and I throw it at you
WHACK! Now you are it and away I fleee!
Oh so much fun you see!

This was turning out to be quite the night made all the more merry at the sight of the high elfs discomfort and his companions enjoyment of the whole of things. Yes he was quite liking that goblin indeed!

Round we go, round we go
Catch a squirrel, kill a mole
Start a fire and watch it glowww
Cook the mole. Not the squirrel!
Thats for fun you see.....

Good luck and thanks!

The diverse species of the fey are as myriad as star in the sky. Fey shadows exist all throughout the fey wilds and come in a variety of flavors. Shadowknights shadowmancers shadowstalkers etc. but above them all are the Shadowlords. These masters of stealth and lithe movement are the shadows' face in the fey courts and rule over their own dark pieces of the feywilds. The shadows' oral traditions suggest a time when they were not of the feylands but such a thing has long passed out of the memory of any living shadow lord or otherwise.

Alignment - Lawful Neutral. Havoc, strife, chaos. Why do the Unseelie and now the mortal races I've discovered thrive on such things. The universe is rife with these destructive tendencies it's own entropy consuming it, leading to its untimely end. Why do the inhabitants not realize that they must instill order into the chaos if they are to survive. Why do they not listen to their lords and kings? To their prince? Why are they blind to the dangers of their actions? Why must I be left to still the ravaging storm? How can I make the blind see?
Appearance - You could almost mistake him for the tall dark mysterious stranger trope. You could also almost mistake him for human. Jet black hair frames a slender face with an unearthly quality about it. The features crisp and the skin pale. The iris of his eyes is as black as the pupil. The body tall and lean shrouded in a robe and cowl covering the delicate wings folded underneath that glisten with a mesmerizing darkness. This is all of course if you manage to see him at all. Most people don't and never will. If they do it will be for only a brief instance before the darkness takes them.

Personality - Cedric at first glance seems like a silly carefree individual. He pranks anything that moves, plays jokes on random strangers and is an overall mischief maker. However this is just the mask he wears as a member of the Unseelie Fey court spreading chaos and havoc were supposed to be his bread and butter and thus this practiced persona of a trouble maker still shroud him to this day. Those that actually assocaite closely with him find he is so serious you would scarce believe he was fey. His heart is filled with sorrow for the home he lost despite its short comings. It pains him to see the destructive tendacies of the mortal world around him. He abhors the use of deadly force in all but the most extreme of curcumstances.
That being said he has no reservations about leaving a pile of unconcious bodies in his wake.

Ten minute background my ass:

Background and concept elements

Cedric H. Dullahan Prince of the Unseelie Court of the Shadowdark

1) Grew up as the heir apparent of the Shadowdark Clan of Shadows. The shadow clans are scattered throughout the Feywilds and each send a (usually) hereditary representative to the Unseelie Court to protect their interests. The clans are prone to great mischief and due to the rather grimdark nature of the court many a prank is carried to far and leads to an untimely demise of some little lordling or another. The ones that survive wind up being extremely... competent Cedric excelled at surviving in this harsh environment.
2) Lacks the vicious nature of most Unseelie Fey. While certainly not posed of the happy go lucky nature of a Seelie Fey he never the less was not quite like his brethren. He would often not retaliate or escalated a conflict in the frequent games of his people. He lacked the vindictive viciousness that so often earmarked them and he hesitated to kill even the most ardent of his enemies. His propensity for mischief is merely the result of attempting to live up to the expectations of the Prince Apparent of his clan.
3) Some years ago found himself in the mortal realm of Vaylen. Assuming this was a test set to him by his family he immediate set about doing what any good Shadow lordling would do: spread Chaos. The authorities did not take kindly to him coming into their towns and messing with all the nice people living there. He quickly found himself on the wrong side of several law enforcement agencies, crime syndicates and governments. The end of the test never came and Cedric found himself stuck on the material plane. For this reason he assumes that anyone he meets is a Fey in disguise evaluating his aptitude for sowing seeds of chaos until proven otherwise. One of these disguised Fey will eventually deem him worthy to return to his home and take his rightful place where he hopes to lead his people to a more peaceful existence.
4) Has been a part an integral part of the pirate ship Arcadia for quite some time. It's Captain harbors no delusions about Cedric and saw right through the mask he wore for years and fooled countless Fey with. The Captain found the creature beneath the mask honorable, loyal and trust worthy and Cedric has never and will never do anything to violate that trust. The rough and disparate crew has become his true family and the only trustworthy friends he's ever had.
5) Will gleefully beat just about anyone into submission usually to within an inch of their life. He will always spare that last inch unless it is absolutely necessary to take it. Remains unseen as much as possible. Be rest assured if you can see him he wants you to see him.

Goals: Character and Personal for the game

1)Above all else Cedric seeks to return to his home in the Feywilds and take his rightful place in the Unseelie court where he can than hopefully guide his people and other fey to a more peaceful and orderly way of life.
2) I hope to do crazy things with the crew of the Arcadia. Steal things that allegedly can't be stolen. Fight battles we cant possibly hope to win and then win. Do the impossible and kick reason to the curb. Nothing big really.

Secrets: 1 Known to me 2 Not known to me one of which is made up by the DM
1)When he was a boy Cedric was forced to kill a Shadow boy a few years younger than him as part of a rivalry between the two families. It is the reason Cedric loathes to take life unnecessarily. He has never forgotten the look in his eyes. The senselessness of his death. It haunts him to this day and every time he is forced to kill he sees that boy's eyes again. He has thus far mentioned this to no one.
2) Cedric believes the years he spends in the mortal realm are his final test to prove him worthy of leading his clan of Fey shadows. In actuality he was already deemed unworthy. Lacking the nature necessary to be an unseelie fey. As a kindness he was exiled instead of killed. There will never be any Fey who seek him out to return him home. He has been passed over in the order of succession his name struck from the annals of his people.
3) Secret made up by the DM about me

People Known: 2 Friendly 1 Hostile

1)Phantom F. Harlock the Third Cedric Encountered Harlock for the first time in a Crime Syndicate warehouse filled with illegal mana potions. Harlock there to destroy them for the good of all people, Cedric because he hadn't messed with that particular crime syndicate yet. Cedric's guise as an agent of chaos did not fool Harlock for even a moment. When the operation went south Cedric was instrumental in ensuring that all of the crew of the Arcadia made it out safely. Harlock invited him to join the crew shortly after.
2)
3) Dessan McFerron. Chief of Police of Rayne. Rayne was one of the first places Cedric wandered into on his world chaos tour. He built up quite the rap sheet including but not limited too: 4 counts of Arson, 9 counts of Pretty Larceny, 2 counts of Grand Larceny, 192 counts of Assault and Battery, 563 counts of Public Disturbance, 12 counts of Destruction of Public Property, and 1 count of Loitering. For these reasons McFerron will stop at nothing to bring Cedric to justice. The mere thought that he has gotten so far out reach maddens him daily. The menace to society that is Cedric must be brought to justice

Step 5: Quirks, Mannerism, Memories, Flavor
1) Cedric does not like to remain still at any time. He moves constantly whether it's pacing, cracking various joints in his body, aerial loop de loops round the ship or simply running laps top deck.
2) Has a rather twisted obsession with "falling" off anything high up to witness the reaction of any onlookers. Due to the fact that his wings are concealed and he isn't a mage people are shocked to witness what they think is a suicide, especially when he disappears mid flight.
3)

Okay finally ready with this thing. While I had fun making this, the 10 minute background is very misleading name :P. Also the PM had all sorts of useful stuff, if chosen we can hammer the mechanics stuff out to their final form then. So with that:

Application:

Name Ruck Paegastun
Race Human
Class Dread Necromancer
Alignment CN, with leanings on both sides of neutrality depending on the subject, but if I had to say wich one more slightly more on the evil side of things. Ruck mostly has good goals in his mind, but he is not terribly conserned on the morality of the ways he gets there. He spits in the face of tradition for traditions sake and is not too afraid to become vocal about the suspect.
Appearance He dresses for the occasion, understanding that the outfit can most defiantly make all the difference in the world. If he has no reason to dress in some parcular way his usual outfit is mostly about practicality. At first glance the man looks like a common mercenary or perhaps a hunter, this is intentional since Ruck does not want to advertise him being a mage. He wears a chainshirt under a simple sturdy shirt to protect the armor from the weather, thick pants, sturdy leather boots with a handle of a dagger showing from the right one. The wide leather belt has rings pierced trough the leather to allow for attaching the various item he carries on it, on the left hip a shortsword is hanging, on the left there is a quiver of crossbow bolts the cross bow itself being strapped to his back. The whole outfit is covered by a heavy hooded cloak. He carries a glaive-guisarme usually either using it as a walking staff or resting it against his shoulder. Most of the time you can see a pipe hanging from the man’s lips. Only thing really betraying the image of a simple man is the jewelry and magic items that are better made than usual.

The man himself is slightly taller than the average with lean build. The skin is pale more from not having much contact with the sun than natural complexion. His eyes are green and hair is dark brown and reaches to just above his shoulders. He has a well trimmed shortish beard and mustache that join together. The face shows some marks of age with few lines here and there, some scars are there but nothing major to show that he has been in a battle more than once. It’s not visible without Ruck taking his shirt off he has a big scarification tattoo across his chest.

Personality Ruck’s driving force is his want for arcane power and it colors his decisions on most parts of his life. He can be rather rude to people he doesn’t like, wich he treats well and with absolute loyalty. He doesn’t make friends easy, the ones he does have he appreciates greatly. He prefers to think things trough carefully before making a decision. The man is aware of the fact that he has quite the force of personality and isn’t too shy about using it to get what he wants. Ruck is a vengeful person and if you manage to make an enemy out of him, he will repay anything you did to him back manyfold. While he would never admit to it, he is very afraid of death and being forgotten which gotten him to the path of studying necromancy in the first place.

Ten Minute Background

Step 1:
1) Ruck comes from a long line of warriors, so he has great appreciation to the profession and learned a thing or two during his childhood before embarking on the journey to learn magic.
2) He worked as a mercenary for most of his adult life. The mercenary company he worked in is named Iron Wall, it usually has 100-200 soldiers under it. At the moment the company is dormant since it has not been employed to a campaign.
3) Most of the extended family greatly disapproves the fact that Ruck did not choose to follow the traditional profession of their family and as such is considered something of a black sheep of the family.
4) When Ruck was 7 the current patriarch of the family his grandfather fell ill. Naturally Ruck came to visit him and the experience changed him forever he saw the once a mighty warrior struck down by disease a mere shadow of himself. Few weeks later the grandfather died, Ruck swore to himself to avoid that fate.
5) While Ruck did get some training in the basics of magic in his youth he is mostly self trained mage.
6) He considires the undead just a tool at his disposal to achieve his goals, a very powerful tool, but tool none the less.

Step 2:
1) He desires immortality, first from the shackles of age and after that goal is finished from destruction altogether.
2) Ruck would want to begin his own city-state with him as a ruler. His idea is to experiment with using undead for manual labor and soldiers so the living can concentrate on more complex tasks.
3) I would like to see some harder choices with the character, short-term versus long-term, obligations to different people. Basicly in short conflicts of choice.
4) I would also like to see some growing as a person, maybe he does not hold the right answer or at least not the only one.

Step 3:
1) Ruck once murdered the head of the rival family after the family had started to harass his wife for being a foreigner and his child for being a “half-blood”. Ruck’s head of the family line did not give him permission to pursuit vengeance so he did it behind their back and in a brutal fashion he left the body on top of a large boulder on the grounds of the rival family with the body mutilated and left for scavengers to eat.
2) The son of the man Ruck murdered found clues to suggest that Ruck is to blame for the previous. While they would not stand in front of the law it was enough to convince him and he is looking for ways to avenge his father.

Step 4:
1) Rurik Paegastun is a 6 year old son of Ruck. The boy means the world to his father being the only person he truly loves and is very protective of him. Ruck brought the son and his mother to the lands of Rucks family to take care of since his pursuits kept him away for long periods of time.
2) Hariana Paegastun is the wife of Ruck. The two met at a tavern where they had a one night thing that resulted in her getting pregnant. After hearing of this Ruck married the woman, there is little love in the relationship as it was a marriage of circumstances. Ruck does support her and his son financially and treats them both well. Before they Married Hariana was a barmaid, so now she keeps a roadside tavern.
3) Adrik Manfrey, was a man of rival mercenary company to the Iron wall. The two faced many times. At Adrik’s last battle Ruck wounded the man seriously so now he walks with a limp. Adrik holds a grudge for ending his career and moved to nearby town to where Ruck’s family lives and is trying his best to make their lives difficult, given the chance he might resort to more aggressive methods.
4) Calo Belrak, is the leader of the Iron wall. The dwarf has now reached a rather respectable age even among his own race so is not fit as he used to be, but experience counts for a lot in a leader. Ruck hasn’t seen the man in a few years but they do share a pint whenever they happen to meet.

The dusk was starting to fall, Ruck was sitting outside by a firepit in full gear. He had come to visit his family, the stay had been pleasant, not one argument with his wife actually she had been quite pleased at the dress fabric he had managed to plunder in the campaign. But it was time to leave again this time not for war but to continue pursuing his larger goals. His undead troops were hidden by the shadows, he never took them that near to his house, he felt it was like bringing a drawn blade into the house. He glanced back at the house lighting up his pipe. I am not sure if I am glad or sad to leave. As nice as it have been I was not made for sitting at home.
His thoughts were interrupted as his son Rurik appeared from the shadows to sit by him. ”Why do you need to go? Where are you going? And when are you coming back?” The boy asked in demanding tone. Slightly surprised Ruck took a deep inhale from his pipe to play time before exhaling and answering. ”Where the wind takes me, I do not know where I will find the things I am looking for. I am afraid I cannot tell when since I do not know. It might be years before I am finished possibly failing altogether, but I promise to try be here at least to visit every now and again. As for your first question that is a harder one to answer…” He took a pause to take another breath of his pipe. ”I guess you are old enough to know few truths about the world. In the end there is only two things that matter in this world, first you need to be able to keep your head high, to not be ashamed of what you are, second is power. Power means that you are able to keep what is yours and protect those dear to you, be they persons or an ideal. Now people will tell you lies about power, not because they want to but because they belive the same lies. Knowledge is not power, time is not power, influence is not power.” He then draws the sword at his hip pointing the tip at the fire. ”This is not power. Power is power, all the things I mentioned are just possibilities as paths to power or illusions of power. I have one thing that a man needs, I am going to look for the other. Now go to bed it is much too late for you to be up.”
After he had finished his pipe and seen that the boy was inside he rose from his seat and started walking to the South, after he vanished from the light of the fire the steady sound of bone marching against ground joined his steps.

Stuff that didn’t fit elsewhere

Well, if I'm reading the time right, guess applications are closed now. Saw some pretty great applications in here, so good luck everybody!

DM, maybe you should give thought to finding a like-minded DM (harder than it sounds) who likes your idea and wants to run a similar game, and then just go "OK, you got the backdrop, now here's 30-something applicants who still want in! I've picked some I like, now you pick some. Have fun!"

I've thought about this. It would be really cool. The fundamental issue is finding someone who can DM and has the desire to do so in a world that is neither official material nor their own. Easier said than done; my normal go-to guy for co-dming turned me down. You know who you are, and I am disappoint. As are 30 other people, apparently.

Yeah sure, I'll take credit for what that other guy said. :P

*ahem* <_<

*Crossed fingers*

Good luck everyone!

Lol ya :)
May the best gobo ( human/non-human/semi-humanoid/whatever the heck you are) remain :)
