Ok cool. I was worried there. And the the artist formerly known as Bear is posting links to epic poems... I was starting to think this was out of my ballpark. I'm a simple guy with simple tastes I like combat I think its fun. I enjoy traps and dungeons and killing big monsters and taking their loot. I also like to roleplay before and after that happens.

I don't see the group doing a kick in the door take the loot kinda thing. If we are in combat I would hope it is not so de-emphasized that we just say. "Ok well Grim rides up to the two writhing snakes and beheads them both. Now lets look at this egg that was between them."

I'm sure it will be somewhere in between that and this.

Initiative, then I will take 1 move action toward the snake but it is large so it gets an attack of opportunity on me. Then I will take one standard action, wait I forgot to draw my sword that means I need to use another move action....

lol right?

In Burning Wheel a character doesn't get experience ONLY for killing monsters. He gets them for pursuing his stated character goals, role playing his beliefs, and even for doing things that put your character at a disadvantage. It makes for cool games. You don't HAVE to role-play your character's actions. But if you do you get an extra dice. Players can introduce story elements with the -wise mechanic. I don't want to play burning wheel, i'm just saying: some of these elements have been identified by this group as being things we want. I think the simple Fighting Fantasy system we just played brought some of these things out. Bottom line, to answer your question, do stats and HP however you want. Your Beliefs and Goals are much more important as far as I'm concerned. I spent all weekend on mine and even got in trouble with my wife for working on them so much, lol!

I know how that goes with the wife...

I took what you posted for an example for my goals and pretty much used them as is. The good thing is my character is the driving force behind why we are here so that works out. Just like in the bell tower when I passed on all loot because I felt that would be something a selfless knight would do, I think that is the goal of burning wheel correct?

Ha! Yeah, we are on the same page. And the good thing is, since we are shelled out with pathfinder rules, if we WANT an epic 'I turn my wrist slightly which gives me a +1 superb-ability bonus' kind of battle...we can have it!

Yes, Grim's goals and beliefs are good. Now over time we can mabye find situations for him that make him choose between one belief or the other, for example. Or put him in a situation where his ultimate goal isn't what he thought it was...

At the same time, if someone wants to just cut down my snakes - fine. They may not be so easily killed tough, precioussss:)

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

That's the spirit :) I am having my thing with the speech because my character is a bard... Likewise, a melee character will have his thing with his weapons, dominating giant monsters and subduing villains! I am just linking to food for thought, and I am wondering for how long I can keep up with the rhyming. Of course, the snakes will speak too :D

I think the reason we are employing Pathfinder mechanics is exactly so that we don't trivialize combat (which was happening with the previous system), so I would not expect a de-emphasized combat, though I would like to be a good balance between fight and RP, rather than just us encountering non-sense enemies every fifteen posts or so :)

Does our samurai protagonist have a nemesis?

He has former allies so we will see who is good and who is bad I guess.

I will have the list up soon.

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

I have my goals up. Though my character is True Neutral, its goes are quite nice, but they can be very annoying :D It depends on whether the party will or will not cooperate with the Herald!

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Okay I read the Oaken Spirit's goals, haha...two (small) vipers...point taken! I'm sure there must be something small inside the egg:D

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

The pole is meant to be, in fact, a caduceus, but one more like (b) in here.

I do need, however, a third goal...

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Ahhhhh. It's the pole Moses set up in the desert. Very very cool...

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

It's Hermes's staff, which is a symbol of a herald.

Male Hobgoblin Samurai 3/ Fighter 1

Im enjoying the new Grim's personality like 10,000 times more then the old.

Also remember Samuari is his class but he is a western knight. I chose it because if you read the description the class is all about honor. Hell I can even get a +4 to a skill check from an ability called honor above all.

That sounds pretty awesome, I am liking everyone's stuff !! I'm also enjoying mine too.

This was the exact kind of first encounter that I was expecting and am not disappointed at all!

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

You guys can't believe how edge of the seat I am for y'alls posts. I get 2 free min at work, I click my little desktop shortcut and get a fix when I see [2 new]x...Even if it's just one of your PCs little side comments or something. Crazy. I think I will use this and role play an addiction into Nadi. Maybe blood but that's kind of cliche I guess...What else can a vampiress prostitute be addicted to though, lol?

Hm. I am inventing a new text message acronym: lolamoj...it means laugh out loud at my own joke. That's right, share it with your friends. You guys get that one for free...

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Haha, also, at the top of the thread page we are on, i think it's 10, only a few posts back is Antoni telling Lilith 'i'll be waiting, whore of hell!' Now all of a sudden we are here...seems like 5 days of stuff has happened but we just stepped through the stinkin' portal!

I know how you feel. I drive for a living so I can't always post during work since that ain't safe, yo! So when I am able to post I try to. I get a lot of window time and not a lot of sit in the cab time! Sometimes I feel like I get really lucky though lol

But it has been amazing to discuss our characters and this second chapter like I said I'm loving this! Between this and my IRL group I'm in heaven!!

Also my fiancee's been reading the gameplay too, she's been loving it too!

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

tell her to roll up a character. We can take another player and this week we cross the river styx.

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

Tell her to role up a wizard. :D (Just sayin')

Male Hobgoblin Samurai 3/ Fighter 1

Or a Rogue we got no sneakers!

My office is in a basement because I am the Plant Manager/Maintenance supervisor. Its really bad how little I am getting done these days...

Haha! I'll let her know!! She may be a rogue I'm sure, that's what she is in my groups campaign! I kind if stole her thunder by taking summoner I had liked the way she played it a while back so I wanted a piece o' dat fo' mahself.

Today I will have my character fleshed out. Got sick last night, safety says to err on the side of caution and whenever I get too sick to question driving I stay home. So in a way it's a good thing, but also crappy because, s$~%! I'm sick, lol

Male Hobgoblin Samurai 3/ Fighter 1

Hey Bear if you did not catch it you can be the healer as Rattus of old is going to be a summoner so there is our arcane support!

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

Well, now I want to play the stick-bard! :/ It will be a skill monkey with mild healing capacities, though... Unless the group really needs a cleric...

Male Hobgoblin Samurai 3/ Fighter 1

I think we will make it without.

Maybe Nadi can give us some sexual healing =P

Silver Crusade

You guys want to just kill these snakes and take their eggs??

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

I was hoping I could convince them to tag along as allies for a scene... Of course, doing that in quartets is tough.

Yeah we won't need a healer I'll try and fill in those gaps as best I can

Male Hobgoblin Samurai 3/ Fighter 1

Its too late for Grim to kill them unfortunately. That would totally go aginst my beliefs. So far the snakes have been nicer then the stick anyway.

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

I don't want to be a rule lawyer and I don't want to exploit my particularly high diplomacy, but...

The stick rolled a 24 on Diplomacy; if the snakes are hostile and have CHA 9 or less, or if they are unfriendly and have CHA 18 or less, then the Diplomacy result moved their attitude one step up.

This is not so nice...

If we go on the "Way of the Burning Wheel" what we should do is say "I want to test my diplomacy to convince the snakes to allow me to take the hatchlings with me." I roll the diplomacy, and if circumstances help (i.e., good RP from me) I get a +2, and if Grim argues on my favor, I also get +2, we roll one test and that's it; if we convince well, they allow, if we fall short, they don't and we have to obtain the egg by force or look for other vipers, if we fail miserably they become suspicious and attack us. We cannot re-test Diplomacy unless the circumstances change in a significant way.

...or we can go with Grim's approach and then the stick can help arbiter the dispute. He rolls his Diplomacy, and he got a +2 for reciting the Oath. The stick promised to help him, but the snakes cannot understand its poetry, so no bonus there, in spite of the the attempt at an assistance. Alternatively, the stick can try to convince them in infernal (it speaks infernal and celestial, because it has INT 14 -- sorry for not posting the stats yet, but I have it done) in a much less poetic way, and then this may add a +2 if I can come up with a convincing content to the conversation in the evil language.

In either case, the procedure is the same: we set our goal for the test, saying what will happen if we succeed, suggest what will happen if we fail miserably, pitch in the role-play pro-bonus arguments, roll. The DM states the DC based on our goal, minus the bonuses he approves for us, and we play out the outcome.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

You are right on all the above as far as rules are concerned. And yeah, 29 is a high roll. But I guess I was thinking the DC for convincing a mother to just give their babies away was like 5000. I didn't even bother to set the DC because I felt even a nat 20 wouldn't convince them to do it. I just don't see this as a possibility even for 20th level characters. If I was the snakes (which I am right now) you would have to kill me first! So your diplomacy 29 to get them to hand over their unborn babies failed, and their attitude moved downnot up. Result: one of them gulped you to protect the egg, that's all. And Grim seems to think the Snake was right to do so. But I wasn't trying to not be nice, so:

DC to convince them to spit out the stick: 10, no roll needed, just ask her.

but,

DC to convince the snakes to permanently give you their infant babies: 5000.

Male Hobgoblin Samurai 3/ Fighter 1

Getting ready to do the cut the egg in half thing to see who the real mother is. Who was that king Solomon?

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

I feel like a bad person for nagging... I am sorry if I was. Oh, well, game-on, there's always fun waiting around the corner.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Agreed! Let's just vanquish these two snakes, work out any kinks in our rules-lite combat...We've got tons of other stuff to see in the underworld my fiend...

Male Hobgoblin Samurai 3/ Fighter 1

So are we still doing 6K in magic items?

I am assuming my sword is just +1 currently.

Also if a plus 1 enchanment for a weapon is 2K would a +1 sword with a +1 ability does that cost 4K or does it cost as much as a +2 enchanment?

Male Hobgoblin Samurai 3/ Fighter 1

As of right now I do not plan on having my mount make attacks. I want to use it more for roleplaying stuff. At most some bonuses for fighting while mounted or maybe I will pick up a spear or lance and get double damage charge attacks.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

one thing I never understood about pathfinder is if the PCs can simply make anything they want how do you get that effect where there is a magic sword in the dungeon-o-despair protected by the caddy-wompus-o-death that is really worth getting! I mean, if the DM makes up the item the PCs probably will just sell it for money so they can make something they WANT, and if the DM makes it bad-a$$ enough that they will want to keep it, then it's worth too much and fouls up their treasure balance...

Is this what the whole 'wondrous item' concept is suppose to handle?

I think I may just drop out of the game. You guys are really raring to go and I don't want to hold you folks back since I have so much going on IRL. It's been fun but I don't think I can keep up with y'all. Sorry.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

bummer. That makes me sad.

Hell no! You are not quitting on us. Jump back in at a later point man.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

know what...Dave is right! Show a little dedication:) Push through...You are fund to game with.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

What would happen if we let everyone do two attack/damage rolls each post instead of just one?? Would it destroy the system? I wonder if it would combat fast and fun?

Male Hobgoblin Samurai 3/ Fighter 1

Yea man I don't let people quit around me. Life comes first this game will be here when you get time. Jump back in when you can. In this format we have made it will be all to easy to introduce a new character.

About posting 2 attacks a round.
There could be some minor combats not everyone would get to fight in could be the only problem I see.

Also I have been wanting to do this for my games but this is a good place to test the idea.

We need a system that rewards outstanding roleplaying. You cant do XP because everyone likes to just be told when to level up I am finding out. So what about a point system where you can spend so many points to say get a +1 to Any roll or you spend 5 points to re-roll any dice. Spend 10 and you can do something else! Lol I don't know what do you think? Or you spend one point to add 1d4 to the result of a d20 roll Only. (Hey I like that one)

The GM give out the points but players can suggest that something a fellow player did deserves a point or more. Good roleplaying kinda like the burning wheel mechanics, thinking of creative solutions to problems, saying something that actually makes you LOL, would all be point worthy in my opinion.

Only problem is keeping up with your points...

Sorry to ear Abtoni byt I do hope you will come back to the game when you can!!

I'm sorry too a lot of amazing stuff happened today and on the dy I called in !! But sadly the sickness was too much I've really been asleep like all day lol I've got work at 7 so I'm going to try and hit the hay again I'll post in earnest tomorrow when I can. ;(())

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Yea I think we could give 2 combat actions instead of 1 per post a try. I thought Antoni could get more play that way when he does get a post in! I'm up for it if you guys are. if it doesn't work we can call knock-it-off. I don't want Antoni to leave the game!

Also, I was thinking tonight about how Obernado did a great job following rule #1 of our game! He wasn't having fun at that moment so he immediately let me know. And guess what, we fixed it and the game is fun for everyone again. That's a key to our game. If he had sat on his frustration we could have made things worse for him and eventually lost a very very creative play by poster...

So The snake stick get's the first 'Action Point.' You guys let me know when you think they have been earned, I can track them on the campaign thread for everyone. How they will be used?? Bragging rights? Dice rolls? Free steamy night with nadi? It's as mysterious as the underworld...

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

I saw the hiatus in the posting rate after Antoni's announcement... I also think he is welcome to post whenever he wants, or do another character when time allows for consistent play, if he deems it better.

I apologize for nagging to much or being controlling; I am individualistic in excess more often than not...

Male Hobgoblin Samurai 3/ Fighter 1

haha so you like my idea of rewarding good roleplaying but you too have no idea what the hell these 'Action Points'should do. Well good to know I am not alone.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

holy haystacks...I found polaris in pdf. Hopefully I'm not breaking any laws with this link :)

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Obernado, you going back to Rio for the Olympics in 2016?

Aww, you're making me feel bad :( I have a really horrible fever today but I'll let y'all know when I can jump back in.

Yes feel bad! I will QQ ( crying eyes) if you dont come back =P

Get to feeling better man!

lol

I'm sorry too I'm still super sick as well I don't wanna hold y'all up!! You may NPC me for a day if you wanna!!! In still very much in it I've just been sleeping these past two days... :(
