The closest one (in niceness) to the portrait I had in mind...
I have posted, but again I will be away for the rest of the day; do not hesitate to carry on with a black bear as a sidekick :) I tried to set things in such a way that that bear participates in the combat.
Also, I have no idea of how to run those tests (overturn the coach, scare the horses), so please feel free to roll dice as necessary.
Edit: Niiiice combat post, Antoni Kettler!

In general, during combat, If you don't post when it's your turn within 8 hours I'll post for you like I did for Gruk so the game can keep rolling. Sound okay? I can make the time limit longer if you guys want, just let me know what you'all want.
If you REALLY REALLY hate what I post for you we can fix things when you get back:)
Game is going well. I'm having a good time.

ways to regenerate luck:
1. the book tells us when we get luck points...when lucky things happen usually.
2. when you find / buy a luck potion. The undead b@stards you kill will usually drop gold you can use for this purpose. A standard luck-restoring potion of fortune will cost you 50gp in town. A monster about like this ghost will drop 1d200 gold pieces.
3. if you choose to rest you can recharge luck. However, if you choose to rest in a dangerous place I reserve the right to test your luck to see if any unsavory encounter comes your way during your slumber...

wait wait...you can hit an enemy as many times as you want, do as much damage as you can on your turn...Another example:
me: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (1, 4) + 10 = 15 baddy: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 1) + 1 = 6 endmy takes 2 damage
me: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (2, 3) + 10 = 15 baddy: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 6) + 1 = 10 endmy takes 2 damage
me: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (4, 3) + 10 = 17 baddy: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 4) + 1 = 6 endmy takes 2 damage
me: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (2, 4) + 10 = 16 baddy: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 6) + 1 = 12 endmy takes 2 damage
me: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (2, 3) + 10 = 15 baddy: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 3) + 1 = 10 endmy takes 2 damage
me: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 4) + 1 = 10 baddy: 2d6 + 99 ⇒ (6, 4) + 99 = 109 i take 2 damage and since i lost a roll, now it's the next player's turn...
Antoni has been doing it EXACTLY the right way.

I will catch up to everything as soon as possible. I also have a copy of the Vault of the Vampire with me (of all Steve Jackson books, that's the only one I have). It's in Portuguese, and I am obviously not going to use it for cheating, but I did check the rules page at the beginning, and they were saying that LUCK was a very, very valuable asset throughout the game, so I don't think we should be using our LUCK to turn coaches over on their sides, or cause 2d6 damage on the opponent in the first part of the adventure... Anyhow I will check all these things, and I will also point out some cool Burning Wheel advice on tests that are quite nice observations.
That is, after I speak on behalf of a certain black bear (if it is still alive).

The adventure is lots of fun! :D
So, I was looking at the battle system, and I found it a bit strange that the enemy never really attacked, only causing damage when someone lost the turn, and then I decided to do some number crunching and write a small battle simulator. Here are the win/defeat percentages (over a thousand battles) of groups of PCs with SKILL 7 and STAMINA 15 against an enemy of SKILL 7 and STAMINA 15:
One PC:
Victories: 48.8%
Defeats: 51.2%
Two PCs:
Victories: 96.2%
Defeats: 3.8%
Three PCs:
Victories: 100.0%
Defeats: 0.0%
If I use characters of STAMINA 4, then I get:
One PC:
Victories: 1.5%
Defeats: 98.5%
Two PCs:
Victories: 11.5%
Defeats: 88.5%
Three PCs:
Victories: 29.5%
Defeats: 70.5%
Four PCs:
Victories: 49.8%
Defeats: 50.2%
It seems as though the characters might be acting as a pool of STAMINA. This makes the game easier in the beginning, but as we die out, if the party does not gain new members, then the difficulty should increase.

Roughly the same... I improved the statistics a little bit. Now I am outputting the (estimated) victory percentage with a confidence interval that is correct with 99% probability (if this gets you confused, simply assume that this analysis I am providing will rarely fail completely). I will write stats as SKILL/STAMINA (as in Magic the Gathering).
Each PC is 7/15. Against a 7/28 enemy, the victory percentages are:
- 1 PC: 8.60% +- 0.20
- 2 PCs: 62.90% +- 0.60
- 3 PCs: 95.10% +- 0.12
- 4 PCs: 99.70% +- 0.01
Against four 7/7 enemies,
- 1 PC: 5.00% +- 0.12
- 2 PCs: 51.00% +- 0.64
- 3 PCs: 91.10% +- 0.21
- 4 PCs: 99.50% +- 0.01
I can estimate the variances of the percentages as well, if you want to know how much things can get unpredictable in fights. I am not so in favor of number-crunching and engineering the encounters with a particular success probability, but what I foresaw was that we would rampage the castle and breeze through the combats (which is fun, because the vampire guy should have known better before kidnapping the chicks, the grand-daughter, and then us, and then daring to attack us).
Edit: a few more data, in the same order as before, but for 7/7 PCs:
- 0.50% +- 0.01
- 10.20% +- 0.24
- 34.80% +- 0.59
- 66.10% +- 0.58
- 0.20% +- 0.01
- 3.70% +- 0.09
- 21.00% +- 0.43
- 48.20% +- 0.64

sometimes i'm dumb and don't realize someone is waiting for a response from me...if you don't see a response and from the me and are expecting one within a few hours, you can post dm?. I won't be offended and will go back through the previous posts to figure out what I missed...

have you guys ever tried to follow this game thread: Tales of Agartha: The Avalon Chronicles with a GM named Iynora? It's got like over 50,000 posts and it looks like its an extension of several previous threads...like they actually maxed out the database size allowed for threads several times and had to migrate their game...
What the heck is up with that thread? You would have to read 1000 posts just to get the jist...and the DM only posts a few lines once or twice a day! What the heck are all those players doing? They actually do fight monsters and stuff. I don't understand what's going on or how they get so many players interested and posting so much...especially with so little DM posts

come onnn...come onn... she says trying to encourage the system reboot.she quickly makes a couple of tweeks to her sonic device boosting its output. then re runs her new security algorithms for the Sim room to enhance existing security protocols.
I can't take her down in a fight but I can use the system to contain her. then, next step will be the school. have to establish this room as a save haven.
Computer maintenance probably took around 2939 pages. If they had to install an operating system from scratch, they had to succeed in five DC 15 Use Magic Device check, if it was ArkLinux, then it's six DC 30 checks. So, to summarize the thread,
DM:
"You [the level 1] party set out on the road when you run into 256 Pit Fiends with unformatted laptops who coerce you into installing ArkLinux on them and making sure that the wireless card works!!"
