I was going to say that the lungs pump air through the trachea and the vocal chords regulate the opening so as to produce sound, which is then further deformed by the mouth and tongue into phonemes.

In-game, I must confess do not know how the bear came to speak. I will do some divination to learn about it ;)

He swallowed a gnome who speaks for him :P

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

what...you guys don't trust the talking door that punched Antoni in the stomach?

All most to the top of the tower:)

The one lesson I learned from Harry Potter: don't trust anything if you don't know where its brain is.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

lol, true. That's just good common sense. You guys are breathing life into the story, it's awesome. You know i've never read Vault of the Vampire, and i'm only reading one or two pages ahead of you guys...this adventure is as much a mystery to me as to you. I know there is something cool at the top of the tower but I don't know what happens when you, shall we say, activate it?

[Ratfolk] Skill:11/11 Stamina:16/16 Luck:8/10 Faith: 7/7

Lol at the sound of treasure I'm sure Rattus peed a little. Lil bro loves gold!

Lol and yes please divine how he came to be able to speak!! ;p

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

Bear is crazy and it's going into town.

I am having lots of fun too, and I am happy with the way the story is unfolding. I was curious to see what would happen to the evil trap-circle of invocation if rain fell on it, but we unfortunately could no try it out...

Not to mention that if Rattus had ascended the tower with the cloud on top of him, the bats might have been "blinded" by the raindrops...

[Ratfolk] Skill:11/11 Stamina:16/16 Luck:8/10 Faith: 7/7

Haha yeah I didn't even think of that, I was honestly worried about flooding lol

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

As you (and I) can now see, the spirits gave the bear the power to speak. Do the spirits speak, or does the bear speak on their behalf?

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

what?! no treasure for Grim?? How honorable:)

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

jeepers now we need to relieve the tension somehow...

Male Hobgoblin Samurai 3/ Fighter 1

lol

[Ratfolk] Skill:11/11 Stamina:16/16 Luck:8/10 Faith: 7/7

Naked rat babes that'll release all the tension!!

The site goes down after I get up and now there's 23 posts!

Male Hobgoblin Samurai 3/ Fighter 1

Grim has went through a change after meeting the Ghost. He seeks vengeance now. Might I request a new spell to reflect this?

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

If my character were a humanoid with lots of skill, he would have used the (magical) door to give the evil crypt-shadow a beating.

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

STAMINA 11 for the win! Feel da powaaaaaah

Fare the bear...

Count must not have been expecting a blackbear attack if that's all he had protecting his lower castle, lol.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

that map is awesome. We are right at the beginning of this too...it's going to get HUGE i think.

[Ratfolk] Skill:11/11 Stamina:16/16 Luck:8/10 Faith: 7/7

Jawesome

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

i left at least 1 way to stop the fire. But if this isn't fun let me know. The fire can die by morning. Not much of the counts giant castle complex burns. I thought it was important to make the character's decision to set fire actually work out. The funnest thing about role playing is that you can do ANYTHING you want.

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

I thought of it as well, blunderbuss + coin...

Well, will that upset the bear? It set fire on the room to appease the spirits. Is it going to revolt against the spirits who put it in a near-death situation?

At least now we know that setting things on fire will not solve the problem.

Also, I am thinking that the bear will interpret any failed LUCK test as disfavor in the spirits' eyes...

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

what does the bear think 'the problem' is? What does he think is the deal with the spirits possessing the things (doors/rugs) in the castle?

[Ratfolk] Skill:11/11 Stamina:16/16 Luck:8/10 Faith: 7/7

Rattus pocketed the coin without reading it. Didnt say that but I figured that that's what would've happened he would've tried to pick up the coin Covertly and when Antoni shows up behind him on the landing he would've just pocketed the coin quickly

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

That's the thing: does the bear think anything? How much pondering does it do? I am guessing the spirits were impatient and wanted the evil destroyed as soon as possible...

As for the spirits possessing doors/rugs... I don't know yet. I have to think.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Okay, it will be interesting to see what the spirits of the castle are all about.

I'm just going to kill the fire. It's spoiling the fun.

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

I am sorry, but I will have a bit of a busy day today... I will have to post tonight (at such a critical part...) :/ If you want to get going, please do. I hope the bear is not dead.

[Ratfolk] Skill:11/11 Stamina:16/16 Luck:8/10 Faith: 7/7

Hey np, I'm busy being lazy today. Tomorrow is my pathfinder game IRL, no electronics at the table ;)

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

What does IRL stand for? I am jealous. I'd love to sit at a table with nothing to do for 8 hours but play RPGs with friends. We'd wear the covers off our books and make 6 runs to the corner store for chips...You are lucky!

[Ratfolk] Skill:11/11 Stamina:16/16 Luck:8/10 Faith: 7/7

In real life ;) and I do consider myself very lucky between my board game group and my pathfinder group I've always got a good time during the weeks and weekends :p

My excuse is that it's been really hot lately and I get heatsick pretty easily.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

i liked my succubus icon better. I may switch back, lol.

I have to head out of town for a couple days for family stuff. You can just NPC me or stick me out in the cold next to Gruk Gruk 'til I get back.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

sorry i couldnt post earlier...been busy tonight!!

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Obernado figured out the STAMINA pool principle at the beginning of the game. You guys have 56 stamina all together. The 8 vamps have 56 all together, and MUCH less skill. The 'creature' with batwings is a wildcard I guess, but you guys have lots of special abilities. It should be a challenge, but I don't think this encounter will spell death...If you guys try to fight the b!*ches.

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

I would think it is wiser to return to the burnt quarters, investigate the library and try to find the means to weaken them or strengthen ourselves.

...or I can simply call the Spirits of Fire on all that tapestry. Aw, man! Not the Spirits of Fire again!

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

We will probably be able to take them, but we will be in pretty bad shape in the end.

Male Hobgoblin Samurai 3/ Fighter 1

Did my heal for 4 stam go off on the bear in exchange of 3 luck?

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Yep, bear is healed as you specified. Grim's heal spell works on others as determined at the beginning of the game.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

The passage behind the monster is not in Vault of the Vampire. I've put it here as a hook. Mostly considering Grim may one day need a way down there to further his character story.

Mwe he he.

Interesting... I was actually thinking of using the trap in the entrance of the horse pen as a portal to the Underworld, for Grim purposes...

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

That one goes some place else...

I just edited that last post. Lilith has STAMINA 13 not 17.

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

I have a few questions that should be cleared before we fight the Lilith (that's one heck of a hard enemy for single-player!).

  • There is a rule in the Vault of the Vampire book stating that whenever we strike the enemy, we can test out LUCK to deal 4 points of damage upon success and 1 point upon failure. Are we adopting this rule?
  • Consider the following roll: player rolls (5,2) + 11, Lilith rolls (1,1) + 9; the PC will proceed to attack a companion, but does the succubus still suffer 2 damage to her STAMINA?
  • Likewise, if a confused PC fights another PC, with the following rolls confused PC rolls (6,2) + 11, other PC rolls (1,1) + 9; does the other PC suffer the damage?
  • In essence, whenever Lilith rolls a 1 or a 6 (i.e., about 1/3 of the time), two PCs will start to alternate damaging each other -2 until the confused PC rolls a 1 or a 6... Is that right? Or is there some friendly fire rule that if the confused PC fails to hit the other PC, no one suffers damage?
  • When a confused PC attacks another PC, how is this PC chosen?

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

1. yes, luck rule is in force.
2. yes, succubus takes damage.
3. yes, pc hit suffers the damage.
4. No, the pc defending is not forced to do damage to the charmed pc. he can parry only if wanted.
5. pc charmed gets to choose his target. Generally, whichever one his charmed brain thinks is the greatest threat to lilith.

and 6, you are not REQUIRED to fight lilith. She will only enter combat once the first PC takes a shot at her.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

remember to apply all the modifiers and gear you've found so far: oaken door, the crown, ect. You will need them all if you try to slay her.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

is she too tough??

SKILL 8+3/8+3, STAMINA 5/15, LUCK 5/9, FAITH 5/6.

I think she will put up a good fight, and I cannot foresee the outcome, which makes it interesting, but not too tough :)

Against one or two characters with "normal" SKILL (7 or 8) she might be too though. For example, the tiger pelt is a tough one against one PC -- again, not too tough.

Last question: how will the charm work against the last man standing, if it ever reaches that point? I hope it does not :)

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Charm will not work against last man standing. Without another threat to Lilth the Charmed PC will have no one he feels he needs to attack in her defense. We can work out his battle with the charm in his head with dice if we need to. I have more faith in you guys than that though!! You will get her. An the treasure is sure to be awesome.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)
