The party breaks clear of the claustrophobic woods and enters the lightly wooded foothills after crossing a small valley. At 6PM, Andrek feels you are in the area where the Ancient Path should begin according to the map and the stories the brothers grew up with.

Somewhere around here a pair of weathered marble obelisks should mark the beginning of the path which winds it's way up into the hills.

Lucia and Priscilla spot the pair of weathered obelisks marking a path cut into the living stone of the hills. There is a presence of great peace and tranquility here that can be felt by all, but it calls out in particular to the brothers.

Before anyone can set foot on the path, Priscilla notices a pair of subtle runes that seem out of place, like graffiti on the marble pillars.

"Okay so I know we all wanna be all'Lets go down this path',But I'm thinking these there symbols are maybe something bad " She says in a farmer accent as she than giggles.

Andrek angers visibly when he sees the graffiti. He awaits Lucia's inspection of it but he looks like he is ready to charge down and hit something hard with his sword


Lucia recognizes a glyph of warding embedded in the abyssal script. She believes it can be avoided by simply walking around the pillars instead of between them, but of course then it will remain as a hazard to other travelers or pilgrims (as unlikely as they may be).

Pricilla or Lucia could try to de-activate the glyph by carefully altering the characters.

Read Magic and Knowledge: Arcana can be used to identify the specific effects triggered if the glyph is set off.

Priscilla suggests oddly limbering up to get her self ready to survive a possible excruciating death. And to think she was looking forward to that foot rub!

As they reach the pillars Ares lets the tranquility of the pillars wash over him, he takes a second to take in the momentous event. Though reality sets in when Lady Springheel tells them of the graffiti, anger washes over his face as he looks on to the marking. "Lady Moonshadow, what can you tell me about this defacement of this holy symbol."

Knowledge(Religion):1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 to see if I recognize any of it.

Priscilla looked at the symbols she looked at them and than looked through the tallies.

Lucia determines that activation of the glyph would have triggered a remote alarm and a scrying eye.

The nonmagical graffitti is in abyssal, Priscilla can't decipher it.

Are's can only recognize that one of the original characters in the marble that has been defaced is the insignia of Abysthor, a high priest who was the last to visit the burial halls, long after their decline.

Sure, if you want to make some minute adjustments to the magical writing, you should be able to disengage it. One wrong move could set it off though. Disable Device skill check to try.

You believe the glyph is set off if you pass between the pillars. You can simply go around and join the path further up.

The important thing is that Priscilla spotted the glyph and Lucia identified it's purpose, otherwise your presence and numbers would have been divined by presumably unfriendly forces judging by the use of the abyssal language. It's very unlikely any other pilgrims would come this way and be troubled by the glyphs.

"We could try to may be scrawl it on the ground with or once I avoided a path when some kind indigenous folk decided to say' Hey this is our land bugger off' by setting out a steak with a head on it. SO I suggest putting a steak and stabbing the note on it?" She says as she begins to ease her tools back into there proper places and than puts them away.


Well, it took a forced march to get this far. 6PM now, at the foot of the ancient path. Pressing on will require additional Con checks to avoid fatigue (or exhaustion for those already fatigued.) Or you can make camp somewhere near the markers. The path has a tangible aura of peace and tranquility. The menacing glyphs suggest it isn't a place of guaranteed safety, but it certainly feels less ominous then the spider-infested woods you have left behind. There has been no sign of the mysterious observers who eluded you earlier.

"Wherever we rest is fine. I'm not that hungry tonight, so unless you all need it, I'd rather wait to hunt until tomorrow. I'm still a bit weak from the fight. Normally I'd take our first watch but I'd like to take last watch tonight, if that's okay with everyone."
