I was just wondering who would show up next. This group is very different from what I am use too and the beliefs that fly in the face of reality will undoubtably make for quite a bit of entertainment. I just thought that such a group would encounter all sorts of unusual things or even the usual things and see them different. So I was wondering who we would encounter next and what sort of dynamic that being would bring that would affect this group. And here we have a fight up ahead.

In a low voice. I believe we should go the opposite way of the fighting. Don't assume everything fighting the undead is our ally. While the undead prey on the living. There are creatures that prey on the living and the undead alike. Carrion feeders.

Now that we are past the skeletons. I return Namastes quarterstaff to her. Thank you Namaste. I draw my rapier and my handcrossbow. Feeling the comfortable grip of both in my hands.

"I dont really assume, I was just following Namaste's logic. Carrion feeders? mmm, some are quite tastee."

"As I mentioned, whoever is fighting them is speaking in a language, I just cant understand them yet. So its pretty likely they have some level of intelligence."

Well, being the curious type and certainly not willing to let the familiars have all the fun, I will fly over there and take a peak but avoid going in the room.

Darkvision 60' if needed, low-light as well and a few other things you know about .

ok; you do a half move and fly down the hall at the T in the direction of sounds; they have stopped (the sounds) but you can see a bluish green light up ahead; assuming you continue with another half move for a full round; you have traveled 80' and are 20 ft from the opening of a room; you can see in 20 ft; and see a couple very chopped up zombies and a smashed skeleton; you can also see the start of a few tables that have been overturned and lots of smashed glass and tubes and various fluids; smells caustic and highly flamable.

you hear a door close; but not hard; with your listen and taking a 10.

what do you do?

what does the rest of hte party do this round?
dc to hear door shut at the party; listen 24.

I do not hear anything. Even with Fystor's spell I have a 22,1d20+8+4 I understand avoiding a unneccessary fight, but I like to know what is behind me.

Kemnebi looks flustered at the question, and looks around, as if seeking help. But even Nebibit provides no escape. He clears his throat softly, and self-consciously.

"I think,..." He answers softly, "That anyone, or anything, that tries to take advantage of Namaste had better watch himself. No matter how dangerous or clever he is."

A grim grin creeps onto his features. "And if this journey proves as fruitful as it has so far, I shall amass a wealth of knowledge that will provide the mystic means to protect her from any that mean her harm. Be it divine or demonic,..." He mutters softly, barely loud enough for June to hear,...

Oh; sorry; from 20ft back you can see 40 ft in the room; you can tell the room is vast and is not a cave; you cannot see the other side and it appears offset from the hallways you are in. You can see several upturned tables; dead ghouls; zombies, skeletons and a few dead humans types you do not recongise; they wear chain and have bear skins and steel weapons; look tribal but not like your homeland. There is lots of blood and necromantic fluid and junk everywhere. the approx number of bodies you can see in the first 40 ft is about 15; 4 of them are the barbarians i described.

you can also hear the grinding of machinery, not that you know what that is; but sounds like large deep grinding noises; rattling of chains and such; not very loud as if they are well greased.

the psicrystal is not as fast as you are and is behind you still coming your way. <still need info on its range once again please>

I stay on guard. No telling when a ethereal beast will come through a wall or the floor. Also keeping a lookout overhead. If anything doesn't seem right. If I dont see anything, I will make like a bird for a bit to wait on the psycrystal (disguise roll: 10 +18...big bonus for being a bird) then move over to the opening and take a look there. I will arrange to have a held action, if something comes at me I will fly back.

My familiar sits on my shoulder, she is too smart to allow me to send her anywhere! Especially in a place like this! ;)

Kemnebi blinks, and looks chagrined by June's response.
"Yes, of course. I was,... I'm preoccupied. I know of the Chancellor, if only by reputation. " He mutters in response. He bites his lip on any further response and looks down the hallway, waiting for a signal from Namaste or the raven,...

Kemnebi sniffs appreciatively, then starts slightly. Namaste hears an almost audible mental 'clang' as Kemnebi's thoughts go silent.

"Nothing." He whispers back huskily. "At least, nothing I can deal with right now. I'll be glad to talk about it, later. Mind your step." He says the last aloud, taking her elbow with one hand and guiding her past a rough spot on the floor.

"I am not guided by the infernal realm. I owe no particular fealty or homage to it. There was no soul pact, no contract signed. We have simply agreed not to interfere in each others' efforts to achieve this particular goal, and to aid each other when we must." Beyond that, I don't recall whether or not there were additional terms of the agreement, since I accidentally deleted the email in which Val sent the information, so I am waiting for him to refresh my memory on what other terms may have been agreed to, if any.

The psicrystal's sight range is 40.' The sighting is telepathic in nature, so it ignores darkness (including magical or supernatural darkness) and Silence (the "sighted" trait applies to both sight and hearing), but it cannot detect invisible or ethereal beings. rewind....

"Namaste, I have little knowledge of religion, however, I have had certain things taught to me at length about the various powers. One of which is that they are always true to their nature. An archdevil is unquestionably evil, everything they do, every time they act, every agreement they make, every aid they give, everything is evil. That is their existance, its what they are. No good every comes from dealing with a devil, ever. And any agreement made with one, regardless of the reasons is evil. They are not human, not mortal and do not in anyway think like one. They are the very essence of evil."

"This 'agreement', to a devil may very well be a contract. In fact it would not surprise me at all, if such a creature had someone not viewable there taking every word down and the devil himself probably knows 1000s of ways to utilize this agreement for the evil he wishes to perpetuate without breaking a single rule or stipulation."

"In fact, I suspect that while they used the word 'goal' it was not in anyway the same as what you interpreted it to be. I would guess that the situation he wishes is mearly to be the one that comes out in the best position when playing the game. Whether the sun is stolen or not is utterly irrelvant, whether other beings are destroyed, completely meaningless and whether this group succeeds or not is trivial as long as in the end, his manuevering is superior to all else."

"There is no gaurantee that he will not cause issues with the group. Depending on his view for instance, he could consider some members of the group 'interfering with the quest' and use this bone devil in order to remove them from the game and hence 'aid' the quest. Of course he might also be interested in removing the bone devil and thus utilized this as a means to take action against it. The possibilities are quite extensive. Which of course makes for a fun game."

"So through your involvement with this devil it undoubtably casts its evil shadow over the group...I wonder what we will do, should be pretty exciting though."

pauses

"Still, I do wonder who is fighting the skeletons, after all, I did not see anyone pass this way before us. If not an ally, are they a foe, hmmm...I wonder how one does determine an ally."

and back to the present

Namaste; I assume your psi cryatal companion goes to the entrance; I am not sure if it can do two actions a round or like skeletons only one; so will assume it goes 20 a round and continues to the entrance.

Kaloni; while waiting for the psi crystal to catch up; you hear a low verbal grunt; and the sound of armor and the clunk on metal on stone; heavy footsteps then you see a dwarf in plate armor; heavy sheild and a hammer that has a axe on one side and hammer (that glows yellow dimly) on the other squat near a barbarian and check him; closes the barbarians eyes and says in dwarven "aye; yea fought well lad"; then he puts the guys hands on his chest with they guys weapon under them and does this quickly for all the barbarians; (4) he pours oil on them; and some gems and gold; he then pulls out a box with runes.

at this time the psi crystal and you are at the entrance; he doesnt appear to either notice or care; he says queitly in Dwarven:
"Uller, you sent them; I send them back; the Good fight they fought. Dumathion, guide these boys who are heroes who fought in your honor back to their realm; I carry on alone until the other awakes in your service"

he puts the box on the barbarians and begins running very fast toward you guys and that hallway; the armor doesnt seem to slow him at all and his heavy footsteps strike heavily.

Namaste: though you are out of range to see; the Psi Crystal tells you; "untold number of dead bodies; one heavily armored dwarf coming your way fast after some funeral prayer; has same symbol of a heavy guantlet clutching a purple stone that the dwarven priest outside had."

What do the psi crystal and Kaloni do?

Female Raven

The party hears Kalona caw and the heavy thump and jingle of armored feet running towards the T where the party awaits; those looking around at the T see nothing notworthy or of interest.

Kalona comes into site first 40ft away from the party; the heavy trodden boots not far behind materializing into a heavily armed and armored dwarf running at top speed about 20ft behind Kalona; and I am assuming the psicryal is moving so it is 20 ft behind the dwarf and going top speed.

Kalona

Spoiler:

you hear the dwarf counting as he runs fairly silently to himself; 5, 4, 3

any who speak dwarf; using your hearing rolls pick up his counting; 2, 1.

My init was an 11, however, I also reserved an action. Not sure how that plays out. But this is my intent whenever my turn comes up.

Mental command to skeletons (I beleive the range is 60', so whenever I got in range). Go back up the hall we came down 20' and wait. I dont recall, but I think that hallway was farther than 20', if not, then I send them to the limit without crossing back into the room.

No attack/defend orders are issued, I dont want them to cause an issue and as far as I know its all friendlies in the area.

I will zip around the corner to meet up with the middle one and watch the spectacle from there. Moving as fast as I can and still make the turn (40' is my normal speed, run is 4x so 160' max--I think that still applies to flying).

Male Drow 5th lvl Fighter/2 Order of the Bow (Crossbow) Initiate

Damn. Okay people lets move! I sheath my hand crossbow. My init is a 20. I will wait til init 10. If any of the women in the party don't move. I will use my move action to get to them, and help them to move. If needed I will carry one over my shoulder, and head down the left tunnel which has not been explored. Will not pay for the same real estaste twice. Depending on how big the blast is I will use my body to shield one of the women from the explosion

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

ok; the starting place; astinos is out front so he can see both ways down the T intersection.

the first rank of characters is in the last place of the hallway out of the room you left; that hall is 80ft long; the party extends back 35 ft.

Ok; revamp; with running; the dwarf would jog 60ft out of room as the Psicrystal and Kalona figure out whats up; Kalona has half action at that point so flys back; can be up to 120 for jog flight speed; I dont really have peeps get up to run or sprint speed in half a round; but that is just me as gm; so the Kalona can easily get back to the party and give the message about hte fire; in that round the dwarf can move 80ft getting him 5ft from astinos; when he says " 1"

everyone has a quick action before the result and can move 10ft unless they have acrobatics, tumbling or some other quick action move.

No problem, 80' down the hall, hang a turn-call it 10' and 20' down the original hall still gives me 20' to spare. So stick with original idea. Move the skeletons to meet me back there.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Astinos, just a couple game mechanics <for everyone to read>:
to drink a potion as a quick action it has to be in your hand or in a sheild sling or in a spring loaded pommel of your weapon or some such thing that says you can do a potion as a quick action; do you have one? some peeps do.

second; almost all potions take a d4 rounds to take effect; heals being among the exceptions. I am not sure if 3.5 has this as a rule; but it is an old rule and I still use it. There are of few of these things we will discover as we go along; thanks for your patience.

you can change your action if you like to brace with your sheild against the wall near Nebibit; just make a str check; the blast is going to be like a bull rush of wind; fire, that sort of thing.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Kosan; need a str roll to avoid bull rush.

psi crystal and Falco need str checks to avoid bull rush, but with their tiny stature and little mass....yikes.

ok; you guys hear a dull Boom in the distance; then a secondary huge boom and rush of air blows against your faces.

coming down the hall is massive green firewall; fire and the mixed chemicals from the laboratory. Also tables; chairs; glass and the like all mixed in.

it will get here right after your quick actions.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Kosan; that second boom is a surprize and much much bigger than your little box of boom. This big badda boom :)

would look great on film.
