Ah, Gm is Eeeeeevil! I am having enough trouble trying to play Kemnebi without your raven-haired beauty's egging him on to even greater acts of magical greediness! ;P (This is great! Keep it up!)

"Yes,..." Kemnebi responds to June's exhortations without actually seeming to hear her. He is totally engrossed in the wand.

"MAster Dwarf, did you by chance note this wand in use earlier? Perchance did you see its effects, or hear it's user give the command word?" He asks aloud, not realizing that their newest addition to the group is not listening, but winding up his hammer for a blow to the altar.

"A 'knack' Kalona? That is a very useful ability to have. You seem full of surprises. Perchance you would be so kind as to assist me in identifying the enchantments on the books? Sometimes protective charms are placed on spellbooks to protect them. But there are magical tomes I have heard about that almost anyone can make use of."

At the sharp 'CRACK' of stone splitting, the feline mage's head snaps up, his eyes widening as he takes in the damage to the altar, and Nebibit and Grymbol's chanting.

"Bast preserve us,..." He mutters reflexively,....

"Kaaaaaaaaw!" screams Kalona in surprise and pain as she falls off the skeleton on to the ground, wings fluttering uselessly in a failed attempt to keep her steady.

A moment later; the skeleton scoops her up and proceeds to the farthest cornor from the shrine and proceeds to enter "Guard mode"
Command; Take me to the farthest corner of the room from the altar and protect me from attacks.

The other skeletons begin moving toward the room as well.

She begins to mutter in a foreign tongue (a human language from the continental shelf)...if someone happens to hear and understand it has to do with the rudeness of certain types of elves and dwarves...

A few rounds later, after her eyes have cleared she will glance around the room. Spotting Kemnebi.

"Terribly sorry mage of the cat-kin, I have never experienced something like that before and it caught me quite unprepared. It was very interesting, though not as interesting as the lack of concern those two express towards their compainions. Well, I didnt know that about dwarfs, never met one before, but I suppose I should have guessed that even insane a dark-skinned elf still thinks hate is more important than anything or anyone else. Please bring the wand to me and I will be happy to look at it."---In Egyptian.

Spoiler:
Usually when Val asks for a prayer he wants you to write one out. That way he can apply bonus's to it.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Ok; as the magical blast wave from the breaking of the altar occurs; your prayer is answered and a bubble of light appears around the party protecting Kosan and Llevenoc from the curse of a non divine class attacking an active shrine, altar or temple; nebibit's prayer masks the party from the eyes of Hecate's immediant retaliation.

the altar is broken, but the shrine is still magical and active.

After the magical blast wave passes Nebibit gives Llvinoc a 'I told you so look'

"Is everyone alright?" She asks looking around.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

ok; what nebibit did was fine; but what Balfic is talking about, the writing out of prayers and stuff is extra bonus exps for roleplaying and can also give you morale and circumstance bonus.

what I need for game mechanics is:
who your praying to
and specifically what your asking for.

I dont apply any penalty for clerics praying to anyone in their pantheon as most dieties are pantheonistic, though clerics over 12th tend to only pray to theirs as their relationship is much closer by then.

Also; things to keep in mind are dieties are specific to various tasks so if your asking for help in their sphere; there is more chance of them responding.

if anyone wants any more specifics on things like roleplaying bonuses and stuff of this nature; bring it up on the discusson board.

Perhaps I can join you in a small tribute to show respect at some point? So did we completely wreck this shrine or is there more work to be done? Or are we all ready to move downstairs?

Kemnebi flinches, raising his arms to ward his face from the flash of light that bursts from the altar. His lips start to move, but it is too late. He raises his head from his arms and blinks. He then looks at the white aura surrounding them from Nebibit's and Grymbol's prayers.

"Nice timing Neb." He murmurs to Nebibit, relieved at his current lack of deity-caused deadness.

He waits to see if he can be of further use to them about the altar, or to see what they are going to do next about it.

"Not to worry Kalona, I would appreciate any insight you have to offer on the subject. Time permitting of course. Right now might not be the [i]best time to worry about those items, just yet,..." He says to the bird in Egyptian, nodding towards the altar's split halves.

Looking over to Kalona. We are not here to search for baubles. We are here to save the Sun Gods Sister, and to weaken our enemies if we can. This alter is dedicated to a Goddess of Death, and Magic. Destroying it is a small victory for life. We need every victory we can get. For you it might be a fun little excursion. For those of us who grew up here; its a war for survival. Sorry if your tail feathers got ruffled. If you were that concerned you would have spoke up as Nebebit did when I started to carve prayers of the Sun God into the alter. You still could have spoken up as Kosan was getting ready to swing. Yet you did nothing. Thats how the Devourer and its allies win. By people doing nothing. Now someone throw those books in a bag. Kemnebi can look at them later. We should probably take that sword and armor so we deny its use by our enemies. Astinos can take them back to his temple so they can be properly destroyed.

Now is the essence of this shrine gone? So we can get going. I have concern for all of Astinos's Kinsmen who are dying on the surface giving us the time we need to accomplish what we were sent here to do. I move to the stairs that head downward, and wait for the rest of the party to move.

I would not touch that armor or sword, if I were ye. I told ye it felt like it was trying to drain my life from me. If ye touch them it will be worse. Kalona, ye say minor necromancy, it did not feel minor.

June is still carrying my light-on-a-stick, that's what I'm presuming I'm seeing by.

"um,... Llivenoc? I don't think that it's destroyed. I mean obviously the stone is broken, but, I don't, think, that the blessing, or whatever it is that evil deities give, of the area is gone. It doesn't feel any different."

"The books can definitely wait!" He adds hastily, not wanting to be the one who slowed the group down from their mission. He picks them up carefully, and deposits them into his pack, which does not seem to grow or bulge from the added items. The wand he tucks up into his sleeve. "I'll figure this out as soon as I can." He mumbles.

"Um,... I don't recommend that we break the summoning circle." He says nervously, as if afraid that the mere act of mentioning it will cause one of his companions to do exactly that.

"Not unless you think we can afford the time it would take to translate these outer runes." He continues, gaining confidence as he continues with something that he is sure of. "Breaking a summoning circle in and of itself is fairly harmless. But if the circle is also used to contain a creature summoned against it's will, then breaking the circle could possibly release something that;s been bound by it's power and it would be free in our world. That would be bad,..."

"Or the symbols could be something else entirely. runes meant to absorb energy, or permit travel to another plane, who knows what kind of energy might be unleashed if broken?" He rambles on excitedly, fully in his element now.

For I listened to what the kindly cat-kin warned, the one you did not heed or show any concern or pause for. After all, amongst us her, Grymbol and perhaps young Astinos are the experts not you or I."

"Yet it seems for all your years...wait you mentioned you grew up here? Hmm, I would have thought you over 100, but I suppose such actions could be expected of children, from what little I have gathered this has been oh, maybe 20 years or so...yes quite young for an elf. Yes, yes that would explain many a thing about you."

Kalona pauses a moment to consider.

"Well, then your lack of judgement and understanding is excusable and since it is apparent you suffer no guilt for your actions, an explanation is wasted for now. Perhaps Jewel would care to take the time to explain, I am sure she has a better understanding of how to treat elf children than I do. I will keep your age in mind in the future, Young Llevnoc."

"One thing I will offer though. A victory in life is wrapped up in the treasure of living. And a baubble full of memories easily overcomes a powers design. But a vessel filled with hate, is nothing more than an open invitation to death and only yields a hollow victory of trivial accomplishments played by another's hand."

It was pretty obvious you were not and in your emotional state did not recognize that. So I was being helpful. I did not however suggest that one do that without taking precautions. I also thought the dwarf might be more cautious, my mistake, dont know dwarfs that well."

"Religious knowledge and being apart of a religious life are not the same. I am afraid that Nebibit, kin of the cat-lord, has a far greater expertise than you. What is more, you seem to lack the basics of arcane or divine ability typical of your tribe, rather surprising but it also means that whatever knowledge of the subject you may have, channeling divine or arcane is simply not something you currently understand at an intimate level and thus may ultimately make errors in judgement based off this 'knowledge' you have."

"Sigh, even your explainations sound nothing more than what a human child would say, perhaps you were raised human. If you cannot see or refuse to accept the error of your judgement, then I suppose that is simply in your nature. Not really surprising given the nature of the Spider-like and her follower race, your oddness in thinking not withstanding. I wonder if through the woes this may cause you will learn anything in the future. It will be interesting to see. It may even be surprising if any of the group survive, I wonder if I will be chatting with my old friend sooner than I had planned?"

"As for this shrine, it seems that you have forgotten that a shrine is something for others to use, as long as there are those who seek to use it, it will exist, if not here elsewhere. The risk taken to destroy a relatively unimportant site...as can be determined by the surroundings...was rather high, fortunately the kindly cat-kin reacted quickly and hopefully counter all that risk."

What you did was needless risk Drow and Dwarf; strange times for such allies; but, silly mortal; do you not know that a goddess of her strength can see those around her shrines and altars; you have drawn her attention where you did not have it before. Astinos should have done the deed or another of you priests; Paladins are dedicated in the war against gods and are not taken as an affront to the dieties person; but a challenge to her mortal champions.

Now you suggest to carry these artifacts of Her that would call out to our enemies; not wise.

Know yea each now; a diety can see some distance around his followers; the greater the dedication; the greater the distance. Beware and pray your dieties will cloak you from the vengence of She Whose Name Should No Longer Be Spoken lest you draw unto you her attention furthermore.

"Ah, thanks. I got it." He mumbles, slightly flustered. Confused yet again by the woman's mere presence and the quarreling of his companions.

hmm; interesting thing about circles; they block magic; <points at a symbol> there could be anything in that circle; breaking it might let it out or might be nothing; roll the dice; take your chances :)

"Mmm,... Ah,... Yes, exactly my point." The feline-faced mage nods quickly. "While I'm certainly for preventing magic's further mis-use, it would most definitely be a BAD idea to break the circle before knowing what, if anything, it might be containing!"

He looks out the door, toward where he can hear (at least in his mind's ear) the two dragons still battling overhead.

"I believe the one thing we all have agreed on is that we shouldn't stand around here,... any longer than necessary. Shall we proceed?" He asks, a little nervously, looking at Namaste for an answer.

"Kaw...Ack!"

Eyes come back into focus.

"There is some power out there searching this area...and its angry, hmm angry is probably to light of a word, its look would flay the skin off a dinosaur...emmm, sounds about right."

"Anyway, since it is looking, we are in its territory and it will probably know about us once one of its more intelligent minions finds us...we will probably have to deal with some aspect of its power in the near future."

"I doubt hurrying will make any difference, but if we can avoid its minions that might buy us some time, though some power's anger tends to grow with frustration...I never met this one, so dont know how it will act."

"Oh and those silly little thoughts about sacrificing oneself for the greater good, probably dont mean much to it so its pretty unlikely to care about it."

"Also taunting it, at our level of existance, is probably, well its just dumb."

M Human (Greek) Paladin of Athena 5 7/ Knight of Athens 4 6

I step forward drawing a vial of holy water.

"What Decidio and Kalona have said is correct. Your actions will be taken as an affront. What I do now is simply an act of war in an ages old conflict, carried out by a sanctioned agent of my Goddess."

I pour the holy water in a circle around the outer edge of the summoning circle without making contact with the sigils and praying to Athena to bind its power.

"These weapons are of no use to us but as was stated, they will call out to our enemies. They will take them up and strike at our backs, and this we cannot allow."

I pour another vial on the armor and sword, then draw my adamantine short sword and strike the blade in a sunder attempt. 1d6+3=7 damage Ignores any hardness under 20.

I continue until the sword blade is broken and the armor renderd in effective, being careful to touch neither with my hands.

"Llvenoc, I understand you wish to show courage, but know your limits. Many of us were chosen for our expertise. Call upon it rather than taking rash action."

This sword is not breakable by normal means; the armor is sunderable and can be destroyed. <Astinos destroys the armor rendering it useless>

one thing; since you guys are new to my gaming style; just wanted to point out that if I give you a magic circle and draw squiggles in it; well in the table game I actually drew the correct symbols but it was a bit much for me in paint; so, just wanted to let you know that you can try to figure out each symbol and that will tell you about the circle; some symbols are a lot harder than others; but players used to keep a notebook of the symbols for reference.

so; players can study each symbol and write them down; though the knowledge of them is pretty hard unless you have levels of symbol type magic that some classes have or are a mage that is a specialist in Summoning.

anyway; If someone wants to copy the symbols in character; I will try to draw them out so adventually you can figure them out. I dont like to tell this sort of thing other than generalizations with a roll like knowledge arcane as I want you to get the experience of learning them.

still; knowledge skills will give you a general idea as will identify to find out what magic is involved; circles are dormant until triggered so they dont radiate very much magic.

Astinos

Spoiler:

you are a bit blinded in this room by the immense evil; it radiates from the sword and shrine in almost overwhelming force and see spots for a standard action; you will have to wait until you and he are outside of the room to check again. In the recess of your mind you cant help but consider that all who are not protected by a direct link to the gods like paladins and clerics are probably absorbing evil taint.
