the signs are a bit washed out from weather; constant rain and salt, but clear enough to find the trail which appears well used yet still overgrown; like growth gone wild; at the entrance to the trail is a hut up on poles with two studded leather guards at the bottom with spears and sheilds; at the top are two archers and what looks to be a very large crossbow; none are pointed at you; as you move toward the trail; the guards at the bottom step forward; one asks in Ghinor; the language of this part of the continent:

do you seek the Freedom Fighters of Ghinor?
the second says in Altanian to try Valenese and Elf
then looking at you; in Valenese and Elf with some rough misprounciations if you speak these languages; repeats roughly the same thing?

ok; here is a post about the main languages of my world so you can put them on your charactersheets and whatnot; common is not a language per se but a mishmash of languages for trade and barganing; not much more than this for that type speak or friend; enemy; just passing by and the like.

Races and cultures at the top of the world; generally speak Valonese; so vikings and such s well as elfs and dwarfs of the area. consider this as slavic or near germanic if you like.

Races and cultures at the middle of the world speak Altanian which you can consider to be Roman akin to Latin if you will and Ebon which would be Greek; most central continent people speak both equally well in most areas

Eastern continent central is Tarantian; consider it like Mongolian; and south East of that continent is Blestian which would be Chinese

Western continent of what would be Arabia speak Lenapian which all Bablylonians; Egyptians and the like all speak though there are some dialect differences as the region is vast; speaking Lenapian works on that whole continent

Southern continent east side is Ament; which is akin to French or Spanish (more like Spain in the north; more like French in the south.
Southern continent west side is Ghinor mixed with the dark tounge of Devils as that area is all devil worshipers.

Elf is more or less French in my world; Dwarf is German; halfling is Carribean; Ork is a bit like Swahili with a lot of swearing.

Between the Southern Reaches which is on the southern continent (where the devil worhipers and witches and the like are; and Blest of the Eastern continent; is the Isles of Dawn and the Silver Skein Isles; this are is Japan; Tonga; Hawaii and like that; they speak Skeinin and Blestian; Skein is the most militant like Shogun Japan; Isles of Dawn or not as organize and more tribal but of the same people

hope this helps.

You hear two rumors:
a few yards away; some elfs are saying that scouts have reported a large column of "Brothers of the Five Winds" (what elves call Egyptians) moving in pagentry with gifts and music to pay homage to that wierd Dwarf in the Ice Pyramid

you also hear the mumbling of your ancient friend seemingly say to himself " there it is; upon the breeze again; the whispers of power and thought; destinies children; seekers gather drawn by the hand; funny little hand; all skeletal and green waiting to take root and grow; how odd; which of those yellow with almond eyes will have the instructions to raise the hand to life? and will the Dog of Darkness send His to keep his Brother slain.. oh look; a butterfly" he scampers and dances around the beautiful insect which seems to dance back with him in its fluttering path.

Mitsuryuu bows to the old man, and joins him for tea. "Thank you Shiri-san," he says after an appropriate silence, "I must apologize for appearing here unannounced. I had been given to believe that I was being led to some sort of teahouse. I have only just arrived from Blest, and wished to find food, a bath and lodging. I had thought to seek work, but by the feeling of this place, I think work will seek one such as me."

Shiri-san; be our guest here; a bath will be drawn and food prepared; afterwards if you wish you can relate some of our beleagured homeland; I to have a story to tell and some information you might find of intereste; if I may be so bold noble warrior.

go with Kiri san and she will take you to the bath house. he bows to you; the tea you were served by Kiri-san was jasmine.

the bathhouse is four rooms; a sweatlog; a dipping pool, a cooling room; and a massage area.

do you follow her?

You come to a large fortification made of heavy treated logs walls; three rings; outer is twenty feet high; middle thirty; outer fourty foot high; there are all the normal stuff; palisades; towers, bulwarks and you see the walls are well garriosoned; the gates are open; with abot 30 guards with long pikes lounging nearby; there are crews clearing a 400 ft killing feild around the fort; looks like a full time job as vegetation seemly grows before your eyes; inside there are many more wooden buildings with clay tile roofs; there is a somewhat constant flow of traffic in and out of the gate; not heavy; but constant; strange that you see no wagons. outside the gate are a few pavilions; some hawking wares, light food and trinkets mostly; one with a table in which you see your guild symbol; there is also a largish recruiting pavilion with about 6 disabled soldiers at desks; there are lots of cooking smells coming from within the wall that you are somewhat unfamiliar with; it occurs to you that you are both hungry and thirsty.

Kiri-san; provides you with a serene, near ceremonial bath; it takes almost an hour and a half; while steaming; she brings you warmed Sake, afterward; she leads you, with a bow, back to her grandfather where several mats with woven scenery of the homeland and an very low but largish table is errected; 9 men in traditional clothing stand with the leader to await your arrival; you can smell the wonderful cooking of home with some new scents that make your mouth water.

when you arrive you are greated and introduced to each of the men; two carpenders; 4 farmers; one smith; and a tanner/weaver. Three women in traditional gear play instruments not far removed from the group.

they bow first; I assume you return the bow; you sit first by rank; then grandfather; then the other men; dinner is served in courses; there are five; first is small appetisers of stuffed dumpliing they are hot and salty; very good; the other appetizer is a savory and very tender meat of some kind on skeweers; second course is a salad in a vinegary sauce; cool and refreshing, very crunchy; third is a fish soup; fourth is the main dish of a large Sturgeon fish; it is excellent and served with wild rice; the last dish is an ice and sugar confection. during the dinner; talk is appropriately of funny stories; little anecdotes and the like; all light; all service was by women; presumably wifes; things are then cleared and various tobaccos are offered; one expecially so as you are honored guest; a choice halflig tobacco they all urge you to try; there are two rice wines and more Sake.

they urge you to take what you will; then they all sit back with their drinks and tobacco and grandfather says; Ask your questions of us now Noble Warrior.

Mitsuryuu takes more tea, drinking slowly as they all let their dinner settle, "My needs," he says, "Honored Elder, have been seen to with great honor. I thank you. You spoke of some information that might interest me. I would find it gratifying to know what this might be, as I have only just arrived at the Well, and there was no-one who knew of my coming."
He sips his tea, waiting for them to tell him what they want.
"They always want something," he thinks to himself, "They see my sword, and my lack of mon, and they ask. They all ask. It is what I do... what I am, now. A thinking tool."

the guy at the table introduces himself as mr Koukolulis: my friends call me Box; those are my friends. he nods to two toughs leaning against a pole one, a half elf, has a pair of ornate short staffs and is showing the finer points of balance and control to a younger, more burly half orc. Both are dressed in studded leather; but the half elfs looks like it is worth a small fortune as both the staves and mail look of excepetional masterwork quality. He seems to be discussing the finer points of disarming and opponent by stunning blows to the wrist; the younger guy; doesnt appear to be paying much attention and keeps asking things like; why dont you just hit him on the head or in the nuts; or just run a blade though him; the half elf is very patient though.

mr Box; what can I do you for lad? dont mind them nor these wares; i have all kinds in little boxes around here and abouts. Bones you say; mr. bones; well, you dont say; got any proof of who you are?

Mitsuryuu san, for ourselves we ask nothing; but for our people; I have heard a story; most unbelievable, it has come to my ears by Seekers of Justice; yes, it is true; sit back while I tell you of a strange thing.

you see, I have been here for some years; I used to be a member of the Freedom Fighers of Ghinor, not a gallant or worthy warrior as yourself; just a man doing his best to help out and over the years I have heard pieces of a tale; now that I have assembled it; I am concerned about such weighty matters; I have prayed; and you have come; a fine warrior of a noble house; perhaps it is your destiny to correct an injustice and stop the evil that dwells in our homeland.

you see; there is a man, if he can be even called a man, these day who can be sure of such things, but forgive an old man, I digress.

There was once a man; a holy monk of an order that cherished, cared for and protected five items of the Jade Court of the Everliving; for generations the Grandmaster monk of the order did put his wisdom onto a intrument of power; not such power as mages and their sort speak of, but real power; power of spirits of fire, air, water, earth and life, and upon their passing; each grandmaster put his spirit into the weapon; ancient was this weapon and key to the defense of the five holy items the order protected. But you see as young men do; this item could only be passed to the blood kin of the Grandmaster; and it was given to a man of not much wisdom not some years back; a man, one Lorm Dragonheart, this foolish man has abandoned the order and has taken up with that elven emperor Sebastion; and has abandoned the weapon to parts unknown an in doing so has made the Five Items vulnerable; forces of chaos have killed the order and taken the Five Items; and it is the power of these items that awakens "that which should not be" for a return to anarchy and depravity. The Jade Emperor in disgust has left the thrown and without his eternal power; his court run amok upon our world stirring the furies and bringing pain and death until some hero restores the sanctity of the Five Items.

It has recently come to me that this Drawven holy personage Balinor Stormwall, who sits not far from here in that ice pryamid; once once a boon compainion and traveled with Lorm Dragonheart. I bid you noble one; seek this Balinor and gain his trust that he tell you of the great spirit weapon that Lorm Dragonheart, gods curse his soul, spit upon when he turned his back on his order and sought the mysteries of chaos. Find the weapon; find a blood kin of the Grandmaster and restore both our island kingdom and that of our kin on the mainland who are ravaged by demons and worse. I am but an old man; these are but farmers and laborers; we cannot speak to one such as this Dwarven High Priest; but you noble one; you can; will you do this for our people?

who will you ask for this information; considering the ice pyramid that he stays in is right next to the these greek hippies; that might be good; also; scouts report that there is some kind of village ahead on the left not far of some humans of culture and nationality they are not familiar with; they wear silks of wild colors and prints; tend to be short with yellowish skin and almond shaped eyes; also far ranging scouts report that there are about 50 armored figures in metal armors and furs; fierce looking; reputed to be Vikings at the base of the ice pyramid.

who will you seek for this information?

"The people at this next village might have information on Balinor." Rama tells the scouts to identify the village headman so that diplomatic relations will go smooth once the main column arrives. The scouts are also to find out all information they can on the people of the village.

Upon arriving at the outskirts of the village, Rama calls a halt to the column's march and goes on ahead to meet with the headman.

The Pyramid is higher even than the trees which are 30 to 400 ft high; it is easy to get your bearing for direction and head that way; the Egyptian army keeps a wary eye on you as you go past, but take no actions if you appear unthreatening. You get the feeling that most have never seen an elf male or maiden before this event and meeting and you are closer to them than ever; they look at your curiously with a mixture of expressions from loathing to outright lust; the jungle is a bit dark an foreboding; not at all like the forests back home; it has a very eneasy demeanor; full of sudden violence, yet full of life and hope. The ground is thick with vegetation and deep pools with everything associated; crocs; snakes; molds and fungi, wereboars and the like are typical, though this close to civilization most threats are probably eliminated other than a wandering creature or direct threats sent by the Ophidian Threat. (it is common for elves in my world to walk on tree limbs instead of upon the ground; this jungle has three canopies; as elfs you could traverse the limbs if you wish as they are thick and close enough).

What pace are you setting for your travels?

ok; a bit on timeing here;

it is evening for Mitsuryuu as he is having his after dinner talk.

Rama and his train of people will arrive outside of the Japanese conclave seeking information just as Mits is having his afternoon talk with the elders of the village;

The two elfs are on walkabout to see the Pyramid; after they pass through the Egyptian Army; they will encounter the Japanese villiage if they took more or less a straight line to the Pyramid; as the Egyptian column makes a lot of noise with all their singing and dancing both the Japanese village is forewarned and the two elfs can hear them easily and may choose to continue on or stop and see what all the noise is about. The elves have traveled about 22 miles today at this point at a normal traveling pace; Salus; you guys can push harder if you wish if you want to get to the pyramid sooner for some reason; it will be dark when you get there anyway and seeing the early morning sun shine off of the pyramid might be a sight to behold. The Japanese village looks to be very clean and serene - amazing for humans. You may wish to stay there if they will have you; or possibly stay with the vikings that you know are at the base of the pyramid as you are more familiar with them and you and they speak Valanese; and the Scandanavian cultures all treat elfs with respect and something akin to reverance, but lol; they treat dwarves the same way and they would gladly fight for or against any of you; the Vikings will be much more rowdy and open in their dealings; the Blestians obviously are much more coded with rules and clandestine approaches.
The Blestian (japanese) village is about 4 miles from the pyramid

two guards interpose between the column and the Blestian village; they greet you in Blestian? They do not appear to be hostile; but they are wary; they appear to be veterans by the look of their equipment and various scars and the like, but they are certainly past their prime and their fighting prowess is suspect but not their hearts.

Rama; what you see of the village itself from your position is very clean and orderly; each angle has a shape to grace the overall layout as if the entire village was a single piece in harmony.

Rama, how do you respond and in what language?

Mits; with the stopping of the Egyptian column; the Grandfather and Elder of the Village humbly bows and asks you to stand at his side as a show of strength while he finds out what this Egyptian warlord desires. You can tell that while the column is strong with many soldiers; they are only to protect the train and this is not a show of strength to take over the village for to do so they would be arrayed differently and not have so many servants and entertainers. Also; they do not seem to be arrayed to enter the village, but to pass by presumably to the pyramid. It crosses your mind that if this train is going to the pryamid; then they will probably take a lot of time with Balinor; perhaps days.

At the Ghinor Freehold.

The small dark figure is talking about the mysteries; specifically darkness; that it is not what is would seem to be, but alive; powerful, and all can commune with it; true darkness is neither good nor evil; draw it into you heart to keep hidden those things that should be hidden and away from the eyes of the unjust and unclean;

the figure then turns and looks right into your eyes Thoronhen; and he walks over toward you; when he gets within 10 ft, you feel his aura wash over you and all feelings of fear, terror, or anticipation of stressful things; all goes away; you can see that he is wearing some kind of plate armor; but you are not sure what the plates are underneath his robe and cloak; he exudes darkness a bit and the shadows around him form strange geometric figures that make your heart race if you look at them overly long.

He says to you in perfect elven: " so child; you are hear at the step of entering with your destiny box, perhaps I can be of assistance. I see that you wear the symbol of friendship to the Great Dark Master in his alliance with the Children of the Hand; and no; I am no Sister of the Left hand nor a Brother of the Right; but a Paladin of the Great Lord of the Dark; have you looked into the Fire boy; and purged from you the need for lesser dieties; the need for acceptance; know you that you are already of the Dark and are accepted to use because you are dark and know the value of things unseen."

"I am hear to watch for those like yourself; to ensure that the dark mysteries do not cause you to stumble; how might I help you?" he studies you cryptically for a second; the others he was talking to fan out behind him listening and looking at you curiously; some nod and flash guild recognition signs. The Paladin seems to be listening to voices you cannot hear; perhaps he is crazy.

During this encounter; Sticks comes back; looks at the two of you and says "if it is ok with you Lord Stovuthus; Bonez would like to see this guy?"
the Paladin responds, "I greet thee Master Stick, I will attend this meeting of fortune as well; have either of you objection?"

"I have none" Sticks says, he whispers to you "and you'll have none either if you wanna stay healthy, tell em you have none and follow me".

Sticks and the Paladin look at you intently; make a spot roll.

"Of course I will stand with you," Mitsuryuu replies, while considering the problems that this caravan will create for him if they get to the pyramid first. Possibly, he will have to go without sleep tonight, so as to be there before them. Waiting for days while they do whatever they've come to do seems an irritation he'd prefer to avoid.
He assumes the attitude of what he is - a deadly swordsman, bored with everything except the possibility of combat - and follows the old men out to meet the Egyptians.

Everyone has the languages of their homland for free; so, Blestian for Mits; Lenapian I think for Rama; Valanese for Elfs along with racial languages.

There are no Blestians in the village that speak Lenapian and no Lenapians that speak Blestian. They are not trade partners and are nearly 3000 miles apart on the map.

Rama; when you ask for an interpretor; a Preistess of Isis comes up; she is beautiful; hearts race among both sexes in both camps just to behold her; you have never seen her before; any pcs seeing her may make a spot roll.

"Lord Rama, she says hear voice clear and musical, if it please thee, I would lend thee my holy neckpeice; I will command it to interpret for you that you may speak to these lost, yet worthy souls in refuge as needs Pharoah." With a small flash of magic color; she unclasps it from her lovely throat; she boldly holds it out to clasp it around your neck; it is solid, flat beaten gold with mystic symbols and icons of Isis; even so, its splendor is lost near the mystic beauty of the Priestess. (Priestess's of Isis are known for thier skills in love and magic, and offer themselves to anyone at temple in service to their diety.)

Rama; will you accept her loan?

Thoronhen:
you enter a tidy waiting room; to the side is a clerk/secretary/guard in studded leather; he seems relaxed but wary. He gets up and knocks on the door; Boss; dat guy iz 'er ta talk atcha,

go on in he says returning to his desk.

You enter a room that looks more like a lab than an office; smells of various chemicals boiling and being mixed tickle your nose and sometimes give you a sudden dizzyness; while in this room everyone is at -1 to their Int score.

A somewhat emaciapated human with bleary red eyes; in a lab coat with lots of pockets looks up and stares at you; it takes a while for his eyes to focus

"wow; nice colors dude; so your the dude with the...box eh; well lets see it; he says as he is chewing on somekind of glowing stick about the size of a pencil.

hmm; oh; hmm; really; well; "he brushes his hand at something flying around his head; you see nothing. he says, well, nothign to be done about it then; he closed the box and hands it back to you. Sonny, (he means you) take this box to that crazed hair mongering dwarf named Bale in the door up onto o that giant popcicle he calls a home. Well it seems a certain Witch of the bosses aquaintance and his Priest of one of them Greek dieties found something of importance and was usin us a passalong service, but he Boss said to help and all so go take that thing to that walking carpet and tell him bout the Greek Priest and da Dark Elf witch and that the seer over in the other room said you would be along with a destiny box and all so go and git; he sorta nods to the dark creature with you.

the Paladin says; as foretold, things hidden in the dark arise, but must stay hidden; you will be our agent to see that nothing comes from darkness to betray our hand until all events unfold; are you ready to see this Priest of Law ,this Priest of "he who battles that which should not be" are you ready to behold matters of import and take your place as an agent of fortune and destiny?

As he speaks you can see naught but his deep black leathery skin on his chin, which protudes much like a snout somewhat crockadilian, and rows of small sharp black teeth. His smile seems predatory and without mirth.

I nod to Bones and turn toward the kobold and say.

Yes I am ready to speek with this Bale person but I am unsure as to where you would find a popicle in this heat let alone one big enought to have home on.

As to my destiny, if it is written that I am to take this box further and protect it then so be it. The light or the dark does not matter to me as long as my task is completed. I use the darkness to further my means as well as the light. As long as the chaos of these times can be tamed with the stuctures of civility and culture I care not if the light or the dark prevailes. I would prefer to have a little of both in equal mix as to have one extreem or the other would provide Chaos a chance to introude.

But enough with philosphy I have a job to do. Let me go on and grab some sustance and then head to this large popicle. Maybe later Lord Stovuthus we can speak again.

Thoronhen:

the Paladin speaks in a soft leathery and somewhat slithery voice: ah, you are young; unwise; and untried by fire; behold: <in elven> Castmankus; if you will my friend.

three tiny 8" tall versions of a dark elfs with dragonfly wings detaches themselves from the Paladin and begin flying in a circle; cackling and laughing and darkness seems to grow and twist around them into a circle; the paladin puts forth his hand and speaks in a tounge you are unfamiliar with, it seems like prayer; the darkness rolls off of him into the circle; it begins to take scene; that of a dark, wet and dank place in the deep jungle.

<all in elven>What is this says the Paladin; this is not Ice Fortress? the dark fey chuckle and laugh still singing and weaving magic; " this be the place; the place and time of the choosing; hero be; know we by our connection to that table of oaths that here is of import to our kind; to track he who would slay us all; to here you must go first and meet your destiny before the path to seek he who was and is now shattered" it is strange how each takes a part and how this is like a chant; your head swoons a bit with the magic power of the gateway and their hypnotic swirls" they continue "as we serve the dark lord; and you serve the dark lord; this must be that we may survive to play our part; do this not and we may pass away our task incomplete. It was our Dark Master Balfic that gave us dominion over he who would destroy us; this must be; do you refuse?, know thee that this destination is very close to that of the Hearthkindler."

the Paladin answers in elven; No; of course not; come child of man; while the dark holds; he steps through; you look at the gate; it is only 3ft high and oblong; you will have to dive, crawl or some such do go through; will you follow and how?

I go head and follow by diving and tumbling my way through. (tumble 8 + 8 = 16) trying to be on my feet on the other side. (inwardly I think Destiny is fickel sometimes)

"Your generosity is most welcome, um, Lady...?"

Assuming she answers the question.

"Lady, rest assured that I will take care of this holy neckpiece. I shall endeavor to return the favor." Rama smiles more sweetly than he would have for any other person.

Rama then nods to his honor guard and motion for them to accompany to the village so that he may present himself.

hmm; Lady; I have not been called that for sometime, she says, and is deep in thought considering....you can see that underneath her scarves and veils and other acoutrements; she is wearing masterwork half plate armor; very smooth and form fitting; hard to believe it would offer any real protectionm, perhaps it is only ceremonial.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Thoronhen; you dive through the hole with easy; but tumbling in a swamp with little choice about landing due to the small whole; you get a few minor bumps and scrapes and the parts of your body and equipment that were within 6 inches of the ground are soaked in muck.

The gate collapses and the fey return to hiding on the paladin; you look around and see jungle; off in the distance to your right you hear faint singing; there is almost no wind; it is absolutely dark here; with much undergrowth and many twisting vines and well; jungle.

make a spot and listen roll.

"And what do warrior women wear under all that steel?"

Rama; I do not understand this comment; is it directed at her or self reflection; not sure what you mean; could you add a few details of who is speaking to whom please?
Perhaps it was a flirt; I am not sure; let me know

(Spot 11+13= 24, Listen 11+6=17) I pull out my everburning torch if it is to dark to see then look around. If not then i try to wipe of most of the muck while I am looking around.

Thoronhen; the singing seems to be coming from the right; you guess about 100 yards; hard to hear with all the bullfrogs and night critters of the jungle; darn monkeys :)

directly in front of you though you do see light coming through the trees as if your on the edge of a campfire or some such; the dark paladin put a hand on your arm before you start the torch; you cannot see him so you dont know why; he takes your arm and points it up into the trees into at about a 40 degree incline; in the dark you feel very alone; and realize that you would probaby be a bit threatened or creeped out except for the aura of the paladin in which you feel confident and fearless.

Looking in the direction of you arm for a minute or so; you see the glint of the light on metal.

Lord S. whispers; slowly; choose your steps carefully; I will lead you. Guard the box.

(move silently 12+14= 26 hide 12+16= 28) I move as quietly as possable and trying to blend into the darkness exuded by Lord S. I also pull my dagger and keep it hidden as to keep the light from reflecting from it.

Female Elf Warmage 5

Sorry have some issues, sorry for the wait Everything is fine FYI
We are taking the straight path to the pyramids.

The two elves heard the Army and choose to take to the branches above and not interact with the Army.

Upon passing the Army Selena sees the village. "I think we have walked quite enough for today I think we should stay the evening here and perhaps rise early and make it to the pyramids before the sun comes up. I would also like to get something to eat and drink. You never know who we will meet so lets be on our guard. Also I think you should make the arrangements for the evening." About the time that Selena says this they run into the two natives whom have a very concerned look on their faces. Selena says hi to them though she realizes that they don't understand what she is saying. So she simply holds up her hand in a universal jester of peace and waits for Salus to do something. Selena feels that they will be better embraced if Salus does the talking then if she was to do so. She doesn't want to offend the village."Well if we do what to say here lets hope there is someone who will be able to understand us." Is there anyone in the village that will be able to speak and understand us?

Rama summons one of his aides and his honor guard. They will proceed to meet with the village headman.

The priestess guestures to a woman warrior that you did not notice; she says "answer this man; tell him what it is you wear beneath your steel?"

The warrior woman; bit scared and tough looking, a veteran to be sure; there are not many warrior women except those that guard females of some importance to the state; odd that one is here, and odd that she was hiding in the crowd.....

Warrior Woman, turns to Rama and salutes, "Appointed One, I wear padded silk three layers thick; silk is said to catch barbed arrows; it also cuts down on chaffing; she salutes and looks you straight in the eye; is it a challenge; if so what kind?
