Andreste is very knowledgeable of the arcane, and would have an easy time identifying the effect. If the door is left open or unlocked for more than a minute, the door slams shut and locks itself. Propping the door open is unlikely to succeed, as the force of the door trying to close is quite powerful and may break whatever is holding it open. This is considered a curse effect, but also a trap for the purposes of trapfinding.
Janis spends some time picking away at the lock before it finally gives way. He struggles to open the heavy metal door, but once he does so, everyone pours in. The door's weight makes it shut just by mundane means, but someone in the back can gently close it instead.
Filaments of pale fungus grow along the brick-lined walls of this catacomb. A thick layer of mud lies on the floor, numerous human-sized footprints running along the center while tangles of pale yellow mushrooms grow near the edges. The catacombs have few permanent residents, with only a few skeletons in little niches present, and two closed sarcophagi. A set of wooden double door stand at the end of the catacomb, which are closed.

Wabbit detects evil, everywhere, and therefore can't pinpoint anything of interest.
I get that this is a cop out, but you may be pleased to know that it'll be a rare occurrence. The haunted mansion, this temple, and I think one other dungeon in book...4? That should be about it.
Cleo activates her detect magic spell, but nothing seems to catch her attention. Furnok studies the closest body, and notices that it's definitely undead. The skeleton is covered in oozing blood, and hidden under its spine is a sword. As Andreste casts a spell on herself, the click of a locking door is heard behind them, and the undead rise to their feet! The first two undead are bloody skeletons wielding scimitars, while another further back has bits of flesh and is wearing a shoddy robe. Two slabs of stone fall to the ground somewhere beyond vision. It sounds like some sarcophagi are opening.
Everyone's turn. Furnok, you can make an AoO against the skeleton you're closest to.

Janis fires a shot at the far off undead, while Andreste starts working on casting an Enlarge Person spell on Furnok. The remaining skeleton moves closer to Wabbit, but Wabbit misses with his attack. The skeleton is far too clumsy to be of any threat to Wabbit. The undead in robes casts a spell on Furnok, but he resists it. Then, two creatures come out from deeper in the catacombs. They are goat-headed undead, wrapped in bandages bearing red script. They both walk up to 15 feet from Furnok, then their bandages animate, lashing forward and grabbing Furnok! Furnok hears voices echo in his ears as the bandages wrap around him.

Thanks, Cleo. Welcome back, Andreste.
Cleo decides to cast Protection from Evil on Furnok, while Janis takes a meager shot, and Andreste fires a flurry of magic missiles. The robed skeleton is still standing, and the wrapped undead handle the magic missiles with ease. The wrapped undead both open their mouths and emit a deep groaning noise as a line of negative energy hits Furnok, Andreste, and Wabbit. Andreste and Wabbit manage to avoid the worst of it, but Furnok is being hit twice, and he suffers the first one completely.
Furnok takes 7 damage and 1 negative level. Andreste takes 1 damage, and Wabbit takes 4.
The robed skeleton steps closer and holds up an idol that only those with darkvision can properly see. It is a holy symbol of Sarenrae, cloaked in total darkness. A pulse of negative energy washes over the party, but it does nothing to them. Instead, the undead begin to heal, and one of the previously destroyed skeletons returns to unlife. It stands up and retrieves its scimitar.

Furnok could swear he was about to hit, but a magical force deflects his hammer blows at the last second. Wabbit ends up with the exact same scenario when his own giant waveblade strikes. Cleo feels immense resistance when she channels holy power. Something is protecting the undead from her energy. Still, with the massive amounts of power coming from her channel, the skeleton that just stood up immediately crumbles again. Cleo darts over to the holy symbol of Sarenrae and with the strength of her faith, manages to dispel a powerful curse. Throughout the whole catacombs, and likely above as well, that pervasive feeling of shadow and dread is suddenly lifted. Everyone now feels more resistant to any fear or emotion effects.
Furnok's first attack is dodged by the wrapped undead, but its adjacent companion does not expect the follow-through. However, even with his powerful strike, it does very little damage to the brute. The one holding him in its wrappings is thrown off due to several factors, the most important being Andreste's protection from evil spell. The second creature raises its goat head and tries to slam into Furnok's chest, but it misses and slams it into the stone wall, crumpling a significant portion of the wall in the process.

Wabbit darts under Furnok's legs, using him as cover for when he sneaks under the legs of the wrapped undead. He grabs hold of a leg, and starts climbing up the ram head creature, stabbing as he goes. His stab just barely manages to pierce into the preserved hide of the undead, dealing only a minimal amount of damage. To his surprise, the vulnerable organs of the undead seem to be missing.
Furnok manages to land a strike thanks to Wabbit's help, but the damage behind it just isn't enough to do anything lasting.

DM TreasureFox |
The first thing Andreste figures is that these undead are mummies, which are ritualistically preserved corpses from Osirion culture, who have either reanimated themselves or by a necromancer. They are pseudo-intelligent, and quite slow, but incredibly strong and durable. One of the most terrifying parts about mummies is that their attacks contain a deadly curse/disease called mummy rot. Even paladins are susceptible to this disease, which shows symptoms terrifyingly quickly.
During the preservation ritual, mummies have their organs removed. This happens to make the undead must more durable against sneak attacks, precision damage, and critical hits. They resist damage outright, especially cold damage, but are very flammable.
However, Andreste notices some oddities about these two mummies. The ram heads and the markings on their wrappings give it away. They are outsiders, hailing not from the material plane, not even the shadow plane, but from the Abyss. They are from the holdings of Orcus, the minor god of undead and demons. In the fiery Abyss, these mummies have gained some protection from the flames. They can breathe lines of negative energy, and have a minor resistance to most spells.
The best way to kill a mummy of this kind is to use positive energy, followed by elements that don't include cold. Weapons should be enchanted with holy power to make any reasonable dent in the mummy's resistances. Banishing it, or just running away are solid choices as well.
Furthermore, Andreste identifies that both mummies (and all the other undead that were fought) are being affected by a Magic Circle Against Good spell. This increases their already phenomenal defences, and grants additional protection against channelled positive energy.
Andreste's bolt strikes the mummy, but is completely resisted.
I'll bot Janis tomorrow
Homebrewed unhallowed mummy with fiendish template. No aura or paralysis. Gains the effects of magic circle against good, SR10, loses vulnerability to fire. Slams are instead gore attacks, with the powerful charge feature. Has DR5/- as well as DR5/good, which stack. Gains breath weapon (line 15ft) 2d6 negative energy and 1 negative level (DC16). The breath weapon does not heal undead. Gains a wrapping attack, which functions as a ranged grapple (range 15ft) which can pull 5ft as a move action as well as regular grapple effects. The wrappings also bestow mummy rot, just like the gore attack. Has a 75% chance to ignore critical hits, sneak attacks, and precision damage. Speaks Necril and Abyssal. Comprises part of the standing army of Orcus in the Abyss. Counts as both an Outsider (Evil, Chaotic) and an Undead.
