Question of preferences: do you guys prefer that I offer you opportunities to use your investigative skills or leave it to you to decide where to apply them? Should I offer point spends where applicable? A lot of us are new to the system, so I'm considering offering a little more guidance here at the outset.

I think point spends for investigation as described in the rules are needed...part of the game component is figuring out to I want to spend my pool points now versus saving them for later. If you write something like "you have a feeling that with more time and effort you could find more books in the library" then we can decide if we want to spend points or just get the primary clue.

So I figured out why my regional did a surprise visit - it was to prepare me for the national director to show up Friday afternoon through the weekend! Luckily the sight visit and review went well, and life is now back to normal. Sorry for the horrid delay all, thank you for your patience.
James Keegan |
Glad everything went well!
The campaign does have a slow start, but it's a good chance for everyone to start getting into character. But if you feel like you don't have much to do right now, don't worry- there will be plenty of room for everyone in the spotlight as things ramp up.

I'm really sorry folks but I gotta bow out of this. Life has decided to sucker punch in the "schedule jaw" and so my ability to check and update games is limited. With this being a newer system for me and one of my newest games I want to bow out while you folks havea good head of steam and a group to work with. Apologies.

Sorry to see you go, you will be missed.
I'll push things forward at the asylum soon for the rest of the group; I'm going to operate under the assumption that Robert and Maxwell didn't sign the waiver form and it's Anatoly, Amadeus and Dr. Udko in the asylum since you guys are posting more often.

Sounds like a good plan

I've posted to look for another player, since I'm not sure our detective is still around. If I don't get at least one more person soon, I'll bump up the remaining three of you with more investigative skill points to keep things rolling, probably once your business in Savannah is concluded.
Dr. Paul Udko |
Hi all, I'm going to jump in soon with Alfred "Freddy" Elliot, PI for hire. I look forward to going mad and being eaten alive by some horror with you all!
Welcome, welcome...if you do go mad Dr. Udko would probably like to pry open your skull to have a look inside ;)

And here is another great cheat sheet for the Trail rules!
James Keegan |
I don't see too much of a problem with it, though the rifle will be assumed to be at home unless you state you're taking it with you. And you'll have to sneak it through customs if you want to take it abroad. You can also have brass knuckles or a similar hand to hand weapon- with a credit rating of 2 you have a shabby apartment and a used car or motorcycle in poor repair.
Dr. Paul Udko |
What's everyone thinking for their 2 point improvement? Udko has been motivated by the recent encounter to ask Freddy's help and advice to improve his firearm skill from 2 to 4 and will make it a priority to pick up a handgun as soon as possible in LA.

I've put a quick summary of pertinent info found in Savannah in the campaign info tab; let me know if you think of anything else you'd like noted there for reference.
This is a good time to ask: how are you enjoying the game thus far? It hasn't gone super long yet, but feedback is always welcome.

I think it's going great! I don't even have any constructive criticism, just keep doing what you're doing.
Anatoly Dudko |
The game is great. I love how you're keeping it from bogging down. With the build points.
Anatoly sees how talking and making someone feel better about themselves has a positive effect, so spends 1 on Reassurance.
He also realizes how vulnerable the group can be if threatened with knives and clubs, so buys a knife, and starts practicing with it. Spend 1 on weapons.

I'll update this evening (US Eastern time). I'm travelling with a supervisor this week, so posting might be spotty. Please feel free to BOT my character if necessary to move the plot along.
James Keegan |
Sorry for the holdup in pushing things forward, guys; though it does seem like you're still making up your minds on what the plan will be.
I'm considering the state of the game and how we'll push on and whether we'll push on. I feel like four players minimum works for this (and most pbp games) much better than three and since Dr. Udko seems to be MIA and our last attempt at public recruitment didn't go so well, I'm not sure whether it's worth continuing.
So the options are: we can keep going with three characters and just give you all more build points to turn you into super investigators, try one more time to see if anyone else on the boards wants to jump in or give this one up for lost and I'll figure out something else to run. I'd like to hear your input, since I've had a good time playing with all of you so let me know what you think.

Hey, no sweat! I kinda figure investigative games like this are a little slower than actiony type games. We need a little longer to plan out our next move than fighter does to swing his sword after all.
I really like the game and am fine to push forward with three unless you wanted to recruit. i'd like to see where the story is going, so I would prefer this game over starting something new. That said, I'm always open to pretty much anything.
Anatoly Dudko |
I'd like to continue. I'd say give it another try for recruiting, and if we don't get a viable candidate, then just give us more build points and let's proceed. In some ways less investigators is better in a more modern game like this, as long as we can cover all the bases.
In addition we could consult / hire NPC's for tasks that we're not proficient in. I like this game and the other players so I'd hate to see it disappear. I can post a little more frequently, but was kind of waiting to give the others a chance first.

Welcome Immortal!
So, my thinking for how you know Janet, their patron, is that you became friendly during one of the many hospital tours that Lenox Hill has for their donors and other major financiers. Given that the country is on a slow recovery during the Depression, outside money like that from the Winston Pharmaceuticals company was vital for keeping the doors open. Janet actually had a great deal of curiosity about your research into birth defects and various other congenital disorders and you actually made a new friend- you're divorced (amicably) in a time when that's not at all common or accepted, she's a window with no intention of remarrying or giving up her position in her father's company. You found a lot of common ground together. When she asked you to help look into the work her father was doing in '24 that changed him forever, you were busy squaring away your research before you could dig into the ridiculous amount of accrued vacation time you have. But now, here you are in Los Angeles ready to help out.

Hey all, I'm in the process of buying a house and then moving over the next two months so I'm cutting back on my games so I am going to be dropping out of this one unfortunately. I was really enjoying the RP with everyone and hope the game goes really well. My apologies for the drop everyone. Haita, thank you so much for the opportunity to play with you all.
