Tomb of the Emperor Gods -- PbP

Game Master Tarren Dei

This PbP started with Entombed with the Pharaohs and continues with The Pact Stone Pyramid. Many of the characters travelled to Osirion after completing a PbP based on River into Darkness.

It shows up now. It didn't this morning. I responded to the previous Perception and Intelligence checks though.

You travel slowly, clunkily down the corridor into arrive at an enormous round room with four exits. The exits are at 90, 180, 270, and 360 degrees or East, South, West, and North. The walls are tiled with coloured tiles forming scenes of desert beauty like those you saw upstairs. The floor appears to be made of one massive piece of stone 80 ft. in diameter..

Having seen stone floors slide up and down as traps before Sykala holds up a hand to indicate the rest should pause a moment and disappears into the stone floor.

She'll go down 30' feet below the floor of the room to see if this is some sort of mechanical counterweight trap (having had personal experience with them).

Sykala finds it to be solid stone. It's quite massive.

She returns to the surface and shrugs at the others before stepping out onto the massive piece of stone cautiously.

Perception for traps: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16

Sykala does not detect any traps.

She'll head to the closest corridor off to the left and look in.

Female Human Cleric 7

Refina will follow behind her

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid will also look around for traps as the rest of the party follows the girls.

Perception vs traps 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22

Are Ixius and Korian following as well?

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Yup!

Content to continue to allow the Druidess to lead them and trusting in his Dwarven friend's ability to sniff out a trap, Korian follows along.

To speed things up whenever necessary, until further notice, please consider Korian at present as following the druidess whenever she may go. (that he is able to follow her of course ; )

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius stays with Korian, following after Sykala.

The hall to the left continues about 30 ft and then bends to the South. About 20 ft. further, you can see four wooden staves sticking out from the walls on either side, two side, 10 ft. apart. The staves are encrusted with red and black gemstones.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

As the get with range, Korian carefully uses a cantrip to detect the whole section of tunnel, gem encrusted staves and all. He takes his time doing it, also consulting with Ixius on it as he does.

Sykala pauses letting Korian and Ixius take the lead as it seems we have found what we were seeking.

Female Human Cleric 7

"Okay so we were to remove the staffs and attatch them together."

Assuming they check out okay Refina will attempt to remove them.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid will do what he can to make sure things are safe.

Perception 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31

Does he see any significance in the staves or their gemstones?

Knowledge (history) 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19 +6 for checks re: pharoahs

Ovirid notices a patch of stone in the ceiling above is slightly different in colour than the rest. He suspects that there is something amiss.

He does not see any significance to the staves or the gemstones.

Korian detects magical auras at the same spot, but is not able to clearly identify a single school.

Female Human Cleric 7

Refina attempts to pull the firststaff free

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

"'old up, lass. Ah dinnae like th' look o' th' ceilin' 'ere."

He will redouble his efforts looking for a trigger that might be related to that area of the ceiling, focusing on the staves, which he assumes are the triggers somehow.

Taking 20 looking for the trigger - if that's unnecessary or not allowed, can he take 20 on a disable check to prevent the discolored area from falling in or opening (whichever might be appropriate?)

I have not been taking his +2 for stonework checks into account. His bonus to disable a trap is +18, +16 to disable something else.

Ovirid cannot identify a trigger on the staves but it may be hidden in the wall. He does see an area on the stone that looks like it could be a trigger of some sort. It is an awkward place though and could not be accidentally triggered.

The staff feels a little stiff at first but then slides out smoothly as Refina pulls on it.

Only the part of the staff that protruded is encrusted with gems. The part in the wall was smooth. The end of the staff that was buried in the wall has been sharpened into a point.

Seeing his concern, Sykala will sink through the walls and assist Ovirid's search attempt.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

As Ovirid explains his findings (the old Dwarf had a terrible, yet endearing, habit of mumbling to himself out loud while he worked) Korian speaks up "Hmmm, you know, perhaps that's not a trap at all, but a trigger for a secret door or the like. Shall I press it?"

If his offer is declined he assists Ovirid in examining the device further.

Aid Another traps: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

As he works he says over his shoulder to Refina "You know, I can remove those staves from a distance, perhaps that might be safer?

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

The dwarf looks at the Mage, considers, and nods.

Female Human Cleric 7

"Thats okay. They havent been trapped so far." Continue removing the staffs

Could I get a Perception check from Sykala? Also, where are you going first: floor, ceiling, or left or right walls?

When Korian presses the trigger the discoloured stone rises up revealing access to a small chamber. You cannot see what is in the chamber from here.

Well, since she is just assisting Ovirid and cannot fail the roll I just left it as a +2 to his roll. However, if you need a roll for other reasons she is going slow and taking a 20 (for a total of 35 since she doesn't want to accidentally set of any traps....and it definitely looks like there is a trap). On the off chance she needs a perception for something else: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20

She'd start with the ceiling since that is where Ovirid noticed the discolored stone. Then she would go to the left wall, floor, and right wall in that order.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Korian wait to see what Sykala sees in the chamber, indicating for her to check it if it does not seem like she is going to do so.

She will take a look.

By sinking into the stone, Sykala seemed to be doing something rather different, but I take your point about this being an 'aid another'.

There are several items in the small chamber including a polished stone box, two grey stone jars, both lidded, and something long wrapped in a white cloth.

Refina finishes pulling out the four staves. All of them are long, gem-encrusted, and sharpened at the end that was in the wall.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid looks at the staves to see if he can aid in assembling them as instructed by the stranger. What check would this require?

I'm not sure what kind of check would work. A Wisdom check or any kind of Craft check related to small items, such as Craft (traps), I guess. A Use Magic Device might work as well.

Female Human Cleric 7

Wisdom check to assemble

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Nice roll!

Craft (trapmaking) for aid 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Use Magic Device (aid): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

The three of you put your heads together, but you are pretty sure there is no way to put this together, unless some pieces are missing.

Female Human Cleric 7

"Odd....Perhaps a spell to repair it?"

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

"Mebbe 'ere be a clue 'r somethin' t' stick 'em t'gether 'n th' room 'ere."

The dwarf cautiously approaches the room, looking once again for traps before entering.

Perception vs traps 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

While the others work on the staves, Korian waits to see what Sykala may have found in the chamber

The chamber you have found can only be accessed through the ceiling. Sykala can glide through walls, but even if Ovirid were not of limited stature, he'd need a boost.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

The dwarf looks down at the floor below the chamber entrance.

Gotcha, wasn't picturing the chamber being above us, sorry. He's looking for a sign of a ladder being placed below the hole or holes the staves might be inserted into to form a ladder.

Ovirid does not see anything that would support a ladder.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

"Harumph." Hands on hips, he peers upward awaiting the druid's report while he thinks on this.

Would the staves in their original positions have served as a ladder, possibly?

That seems unlikely as you'd have to climb, balance on a staff, and then jump to the hole. The staves were in the walls on the sides and the hole is in the middle.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

How high is the roof? Could we boot each other or Korian stand on Ovirid's shoulder's or something high enough to get Jinx in the chamber, so he can push everything out?

The ceiling isn't very high. 10 ft. above the ground or so. You should be able to boost someone up.

I don't know if Jinx will be able to push stuff out, but one of you should be able to get up there. Sykala already climbed up there.

I think Ovirid just wanted to check for traps.

Ah, we are waiting on Ovirid's search for traps then? Makes sense. Was waiting for the description of what Sykala saw up there.

Thanks, totally missed that.

The little druidess reappears in the ceiling trapdoor and waves the others up. She watches them for a few moments to see if they can manage to get up here without her assistance.

She'll Detect Magic on the stuff in the room while she is waiting.
