Tomb of the Emperor Gods -- PbP

Game Master Tarren Dei

This PbP started with Entombed with the Pharaohs and continues with The Pact Stone Pyramid. Many of the characters travelled to Osirion after completing a PbP based on River into Darkness.

How far away is Ovrid from Refina?

Because Refina's crossing a dig site with numerous people lying around or squabbling, tools, and piles of soft sand, it would take her a double move to get there. She could act on the next turn if she headed there.

More trying to find distance for a spell are they within 40 - 60ftft?

Well, depending on what she wants to do. I think Korian also has an action this round, was just waiting to see what all the Players wanted to do. So, looks like fight it is? Wheeee!

Actually if Refina's plan works we may just survive this and dosent involve fighting.

Ovirid:
From the gleam in Master Soan's eye, you are fairly certain he does not want you alive. In fact, he looks like he will very much enjoy killing you.

"Soan," calls Exemplar Khymrasa from her palanquin, "I want him alive."

The gleam dies in Soan's eye and any further punches he makes will be delivered with as much emotion as one has when making a peanut butter sandwich.

Refina Frizart wrote:

Ovirid and Master Soan are within 60 ft. Yes.

Tarren:
<--- Unsurprised. Until the Exemplar says to keep him alive, of course.

Female Human Cleric 7

As Refina moves closer she casts a shield other spell on Ovirid She has her spiritual ally remain next to Soan but not attack.

To Korian via the message sell

"Ok the first thing I need you to do is call off your summons."

Shield other

Spoiler:
This spell wards the subject and creates a mystic connection
between you and the subject so that some of its wounds are
transferred to you. The subject gains a +1 deflection bonus to
AC and a +1 resistance bonus on saves. Additionally, the subject
takes only half damage from all wounds and attacks (including
those dealt by special abilities) that deal hit point damage. The
amount of damage not taken by the warded creature is taken
by you. Forms of harm that do not involve hit points, such as
charm effects, temporary ability damage, level draining, and
death effects, are not affected. If the subject suffers a reduction
of hit points from a lowered Constitution score, the reduction is
not split with you because it is not hit point damage. When the
spell ends, subsequent damage is no longer divided between the
subject and you, but damage already split is not reassigned to
the subject.

Also would what ever is happening in the spoilers between Ovirid and Soan be seen or heard by Refina

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid and Master Soan are not speaking to one another. Exemplar Khymrasa called out from her palanquin, "Soan, I want him alive." I believe everyone would have heard that.

I imagine it's pretty noisy and they might not have heard that, but I think Ovirid can message while stunned, can't he? ... And, this isn't just me avoiding a TPK. She wants him alive. I have no problem with a TPK but she has other motives.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

I am picturing him gasping for air, so I wasn't assuming he could communicate well.

Well, I think I'm up.

Master Soan attacks again. Both attacks hit. One of them hits hard. Is Ovirid's AC 12 right now? 10 +4 for armor -2 for being stunned? // DC 17 save again // 20 points of non-lethal damage. ... I guess this is shared with Refina.

The bat and, one would presume, the Sand Sage continues to fly away from the dig site at a great speed.

Khymrasa glares around the dig site hoping to find all her enemies. She raises a hand behind Hoffenburrow's head and makes a gesture as if threatening to cast a spell. When Hoffenburrow turns to look at her, she lowers her hand and gives him a loving, non-threatening look.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Fortitude save 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Sadly, I believe that AC is correct.

Remember the +1 from Refina's spell. (Not that it matters this time.)

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Korian, seeing Khymrasa's actions, grits his teeth and growls out a message for the dretch to pass to Hoffenburrow "You fool! You can't trust them! They're Chelaxian! She was just about to attack you before you turned around! She'll betray you the first chance she gets! What have you done??"

he then sends out a terse message to Refina "I'm listening, but it better be good. And I'm not giving up until I know more of your plan. If you think they'll just let us go with a slap on the wrist you're kidding yourself. You've seen now easily they kill their own slaves. What do you think they'll do to us once they have us at their mercy?"

Tarren, if you'll also allow me to use the dretch to pass on commands to Korian's other summonings, his going to have them attack Master Soan, who to Korian's eyes looks like he's killing his Dwarven Friend.

Also, looking back through the thread, it seems Korian's summons are two rounds worth of attacks behind, and also that Sykala may be missing a round or two of actions.

Female Human Cleric 7

Refina's reply via the message is equaly terse

"No I dont think they will let us go with a slap on the wrist and I dont trust them for a moment I'm trying to swap an immediate threat for a later one"

With that said Refina continues to move closer until she is within yelling distance of Khymrasa.

"This is getting us nowhere." Refina yells at her "Call your men off and we will call ours off as well"

Would that be a diplomacy check?

The dretch can only communicate with abyssal speaking targets. I've been generous in giving Hoffenburrow abyssal as a language.

Your summons can continue to chomp up the slave masters.

Female Human Cleric 7

Via message to Korian

"As far as they know were here to slow down the dig because Hoffenburrow wanted those seeds and I'm fairly certain the Chelexians wont care about tham. I'm hoping I can maybe play on that try and convince them that all we care about is getting the seeds but that wont work if you keep attacking them."

Not seeing the Sand Sage anywhere near but assuming that the bat is possibly chasing him off and also not being able to make much sense from the chaos below, Sykala begins a prayer to Gozreh.

It takes a full round to cast the Summon Natures Ally IV (she sacrifices her Dispel Magic for it). Let me know when it takes effect please.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Still filled with rage and the fighting spirit of his desert people, Korian grits his teeth, warring within himself. Finally he replies "Ok, if you can get them to listen to you, I'm willing to back your play."

By the way, can Korian do anything to stop his summons? Dismiss them or? I have no idea how that works. These rolls here are the attacks from last round.

If the bat has any chance to catch it's prey, it attacks it, also smiting it.
Bat Bite and Damage: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 151d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 +4 Damage if Evil

Now flanking with the giant spider, after ripping apart one guard, the croc snaps at another, trying to do it all over agian.

Celestial Crocodile bite attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Plus free Grab/Grapple: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
If successful auto death-roll damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 and foe gains Grappled & Prone condition
Plus Tail slap attack (vs Prone?): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Damage: 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

The giant Spider reaches down at bite at one of the guards (preferably one caught in it's web)
Spider Bite & Damage: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 121d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 +3 Damage if Evil
Plus Poison, Fort DC16; frequency 1/round for 4 rounds; effect 1d2 ⇒ 1 Strength damage; cure 1 save

I haven't been including flank for either of these two, but if it's appropriate, then please add the +2

The Dretch, responding to Korian's mental command, heads over to attack master soan. (flanking with Ovirid-I know there's no bonus at the moment though)
Bite attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Claw 1 attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Claw 2 attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Bite Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Claw 1 Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Claw 2 Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

For this round, Korian is waiting to hear Khymsara's response before doing anything about the monsters

(D) Dismissible: If the duration line ends with “(D),” you can dismiss the spell at will. You must be within range of the spell's effect and must speak words of dismissal, which are usually a modified form of the spell's verbal component. If the spell has no verbal component, you can dismiss the effect with a gesture. Dismissing a spell is a standard action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

A spell that depends on concentration is dismissible by its very nature, and dismissing it does not take an action, since all you have to do to end the spell is to stop concentrating on your turn.

Summons have (D) after duration and are dismissible.

The bat, however, is out of range and cannot be dismissed at this point.

The spider wounds a slave master and the croc eliminates another. The dretch does not score against Master Soan.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius keeps cruising in the airship after the golems, looking out the porthole for any signs of battle.

The golems are going in two directions. Half of them are heading towards Refina. Half are headed towards Ovirid. Which way do you direct Esteban to take the airship?

Just waiting for a reply to this.

Yes, it would be a Diplomacy check if you are trying to persuade Khymrasa. A Bluff check if you are trying to deceive her.

Female Human Cleric 7

Diplomacy

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Good fortune reroll

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Khymrasa calls out, "My 'men' are only defending themselves. Yours attacked. Nevertheless, I would prefer to settle this amicably. Your superior, Dr. Hoffenburrow, has already negotiated terms. Master Soan, stop punching the sneaky dwarf for a moment."

Female Human Cleric 7

"Those terms being?"

Refina relays what has already been said back to Korian and the others via the message spell

Hoffenburrow stops punching Ovirid for the moment.

Female Human Cleric 7

To Korian via the message spell

"Ok I've gotten them to back off a bit now I need you and the others to do the same."

Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:

Whoa! That proves it Korian! Hoffenburrow is a traitor AND has something against dwarves. Ganging up with Master Soan like that is just rude. Can't trust anyone nowadays.... ;)

Sykala holds her prayer, ready to unleash it at a moments notice.

Just in the nick of time Refina, Sykala was about to go for the jugular.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Given a round to recover, Ovirid will pick up his shield and pick and step away from the monk. (If the monk lets him, of course.)

"Ah dinna attack anyone."

Whoops. That was Master Soan who stopped punching. Hoffenburrow is lusting after Khymrasa.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Yikes. At least you only got the name switched. I'm not that kind of dwarf. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. ;)

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius directs Esteban to follow the golems heading towards Ovirid.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Was there any reply to Korian from Hoffenburrow?

Korian also gives a command to the Dretch to stop attacking the Monk, but to continue if any hostilities restart again.

EDIT: Oh! I made an earlier post, guess it didn't stick. Went something like...

Once the monk has stopped beating on Ovirid, Korain whispers a phrase and makes an arcane dismissing the celestial crocodile while mumbling to himself "It was just about to disappear anyway."

In the next round, if the 'cease-fire' still ensues, he will do the same with the spider. However he does not yet dismiss the bat or dretch .

Korian Allande wrote:

No. Not this time.

You can't dismiss the bat as it is out of range.

The dretch ceases attacking and the crocodile disappears.

"It seems that your superior," Khymrasa says, indicating the Sand Sage, "has not had a chance to explain the agreement. Send one of your group up here and he will inform you."

Female Human Cleric 7

Refina takes it upon herself to approach "So what is this agreement then.....Sir?" she asks whilst having a pretty good idea of what the agreement was. She also takes the oppertunity in getting closer to Hoffenburrow to see if he gives any indication of being under any form of enchantment

Sense motive

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31

"Well," says Hoffenburrow, "Exemplar Khymrasa has generously agreed to have her people enter the pyramid and, while there, retrieve the seeds that I believe are inside. All seeds will be donated to the Society, in return for which the Pathfinder Society will consult on any relics that the Exemplar's people recover from the site. Isn't that wonderful?"

During the combat, the ankhegs continued to pull sand away from the entrance. As Hoffenburrow speaks, Khymrasa flicks her fingers at some of the slave masters who were not being attacked by the crocodile and the spider. They quickly usher 10 of the slaves into the entrance of the pyramid and whip them to urge them forward.

Refina:
Refina doesn't know Hoffenburrow, but she strongly suspects his love for Khymrasa is the result of some sort of enchantment.

"Of course," says Khymrasa, "I do have another proposal, if you would like to come up and discuss it. You. Alone."

Ovirid Thorvirson wrote:

Master Soan shakes his head when Ovirid tries to reach for the shield and pick. It's clear he does not consider 'stop punching' to mean 'allow the dwarf to rearm himself'.

Ovirid scowls, hands up, palms toward the monk. He points at the shield, "C'n Ah 't least 'ave me shield back?"

Female Human Cleric 7

Via Message to Korian

"Fairly certain Hoffenburrow is being magically controlled in some way."

Refina attempts to hide her disgust at the treatment of the slaves as she continues to speak with Khymrasa approaching slowly as she does so "Actually I have a proposal as well if you would be willing to hear it?"

Khymrasa kicks a rope ladder down to allow Refina to climb up.

Female Human Cleric 7

Refina climbs the ladder using her bit of luck ability as she does so

Message to Korian as she climbs

"She may try to do to me what she did to Hoffenburrow hopefully the ward will stop it if she does."

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Kicking himself for not seeing himself that of course Hoffenburrow must be under enchantment sooner, Korian replies "Good job Refina, I am sure you are right. I let my anger cloud my judgement. I should have known better that no Society member would willingly ally themselves with the likes of Khymsara and her crew. Be careful. The rest of you, look alive, this isn't over yet."

Stealth: 1d20 + 10 + 20 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 20 = 39
Remaining stealthy, as he speaks, Korian moves closer to Ovirid, until he is within 40' of the Dwarf and then whispers a message again

Ovirid and the gang only. No DMs! please : ):

"Ovirid, I'm close. If something goes bad with Refina, be prepared. Don't worry, I'll distract the scaly monk. Go for either your weapon or shield and I'll get the other one to you. Sykala, Ixius, pick your targets and prepare to back up either Refina or Ovirid and I."

As per his word, the spider is also dismissed. The Dretch remains un-hostile for the moment but continues to flank the monk with Refina's spiritual ally.

Refina Frizart wrote:

Khymrasa and Hoffenburrow step into the palanquin, sitting beside each other on one of the wide bed-like benches, leaving the one opposite for Refina.

"And, your proposal is ...," asks Khymrasa.

Seeing that the spiritual ally and the dretch have not been dispelled, the Asmodean enforcer monks ride their palanquin golems towards Ovirid. Their are four other Asmodean enforcer monks who approach Khymrasa's paladin.
