Tomb of the Emperor Gods -- PbP

Game Master Tarren Dei

This PbP started with Entombed with the Pharaohs and continues with The Pact Stone Pyramid. Many of the characters travelled to Osirion after completing a PbP based on River into Darkness.

The crocodile has a speed of 20 ft. There isn't a slave master in this camp that cannot outrun him when they aren't caught by surprise. There are a few slave masters who have lost their minds though and the croc could go after them if you wish. How are you directing it without speaking to it again?

Generally, you should make the roles. Khymrasa and the man retreat into their palanquin immediately. The dretch will of course enter after them but you will not be able to see what transpires.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Ahh, but you are forgetting their 'Sprint' ability my friend. "Once per minute a crocodile may sprint, increasing its land speed to 40 feet for 1 round." As for targeting I was assuming that the guards would be rushing in to deal with this threat (thus taking some of the heat off of Ovirid-Ahem). But if this is not the case, then my next assumption would be that it would go after the next most aggressive opponent (as opposed to a non-combatant). Korian has no way to direct it but the spell description does say "It attacks your opponents to the best of its ability."(emphasis mine). Finally, as for the Dretch, if Korian is within 100' of it they should be able to remain in Telepathic contact. If you disagree with or if I need to change anything of this though please just lemme know.

As for the rolls, I know I know, was just being lazy. In case it can catch one of the guards, here ya go.

Celestial Crcodile bite attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Plus free Grab/Grapple: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
If successful auto death-roll damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 and foe gains Grappled & Prone condition
Plus Tail slap attack (vs Prone?): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 Damage: 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius pokes his head in the hatch of the ship to see what is inside.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

The crocodile sprints towards the nearest guard as he looks menacing. The guard avoids the crocodile and tries to get out of its way as quickly as possible.

Most sane individuals, and many of the now insane ones get out of the crocodile's way. A handful come after the crocodile however. Some are restrained by friends, but others get through.

Khymrasa casts a spell immediately upon entering the palanquin. The telepathic images sent by the dretch show her appearance is blurry and unclear.

The dretch gets its attack and will probably get an AoO based on what she intends to do next. You can roll for that in advance.

Ixius wrote:

Ixius pokes his head in the hatch of the ship to see what is inside.

Perception: 1d20+11

Although the outside appears to be natural and unfinished, the inside is well-furnished. The natural ribs of the seedpod support walls that divide the seedpod into several rooms, each with separate doors. Some open areas allow for steering and control. A corridor runs the length of the ship. Someone is moving up near what appears to be the front.

Female Human Cleric 7

Refina takes the oppertunity to get closer to the camp whilst everyone is distracted.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Sense Motive 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Relatively speaking (without needing a lot of detail), where is Ovirid related to the crocodile excitement, palanquins, and the seedpod? Trying to decide on my next action.

The crocodile chased down a slave master near the entrance to they pyramid. I figure you are about 30 or 40 feet away.

Refina can enter the camp while everyone is distracted. If she wants to remain unseen or notice, we'll need a stealth check. Anyone carrying weapons into the camp could be noticed as not belonging.

Female Human Cleric 7

Stealth

1d20 ⇒ 15

Refina approaches to within 170ft of one of the guards (preferably somewhwere were she would be harder to spot) and casts a spiritual ally next to the guard and has it attack (In the form of a Vulpinal weilding a glaive)

Spiritual ally

Spoiler:

Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, DF
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Effect spiritual ally of force
Duration 1 round/level (D)
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance yes
An ally made of pure force appears in a single 5-foot square
within range. The ally takes the form of a servant of your god.
The spiritual ally occupies its space, though you and your
allies can move through it, since it is your ally. The spiritual
ally carries a single weapon, one favored by your deity (as for
spiritual weapon), which has the same threat range and critical
modifiers as a real weapon of its form. Each round on your
turn, starting with the turn that you cast this spell, your spiritual
ally can make an attack against a foe within its reach that you
designate. The spiritual ally threatens adjacent squares and can
flank and make attacks of opportunity as if it were a normal
creature. The spiritual ally uses your base attack bonus (gaining
extra attacks if your base attack bonus is high enough) plus
your Wisdom bonus when it makes a melee attack. When the
spiritual ally hits, it deals 1d10 points of force damage + 1 point
of damage per 3 caster levels (maximum +5 at 15th level). It
strikes as a spell, not a weapon, so it bypasses DR and can affect
incorporeal creatures.
Each round after the first, you can move the spiritual ally as a
swift action. It has a speed of 30 feet, and a fly speed of 30 feet
(perfect maneuverability). Being a construct of force, the spiritual
ally cannot be harmed by any physical attacks, but dispel magic,
disintegrate, a sphere of annihilation, or a rod of cancellation affects
it. A spiritual ally’s AC against touch attacks is 10.
If an attacked creature has spell resistance, you make a caster
level check (1d20 + caster level) against that spell resistance the
first time the spiritual ally strikes it. If the ally is successfully
resisted, the spell is dispelled. If not, the weapon has its normal
full effect on that creature for the duration of the spell.

Attack

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21

Damage

1d10 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Hello all, I am back and Happy New Year to all!

Sykala's elemental form whizzes past Ixius' head into the craft. She darts along the corridor toward the front to see who is moving around up there.

Sykala would have cast Barkskin, Resist Energy (fire), Longstrider, and Call Lightning in preparation for our assault if that is ok Tarren. We already all have Pass Without a Trace from her earlier casting I believe.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Hey DM T, just wanted to clear up a few things I was a little unclear of if you don't mind? So did Khymrasa pass her fort save then? Cause the Nauseated says with the condition spell casting isn't possible. Also, wouldn't the dretch have got an AoO when she moved away? And then another when she cast a spell? Or would just the first count? And then you're saying there'll be another AoO for her next action?

Also, are we in rounds now/still?

And welcome back Sykala! Happy New Year to you too!

Welcome back Sykala!

Sykala and Ixius if he follows:
The man at the front of the vessel has his back turned to Skyala, but looks familiar. His clothes are foreign made--Vudran, though she barely notices this kind of thing--but something about his outline is familiar to her. If she intends to sneak up on him, she'll need to make a stealth check, even as an air elemental.

The DC to resist the nauseated condition was 13. Yes, they both beat DC 13 and they aren't very tough, these two. The dretch acts on your initiative, which they beat. She (and her man) steps back into the palanquin--a 5 ft. step--and casts a spell. Now, it is your dretch's turn.

As for rounds, I'm not even going to try to maintain a sense of rounds when you guys split the party like this. I'm really looking forward to getting you inside a building.

I mean, getting you inside a building and then killing you one at a time. Bruhahaha.

Refina's attack wounds one of the slave masters (or, are you attacking one of the monks?) There are two classes of mook here -- guys with whips that mind the slaves and guys with ranseurs that guard the big guys.

Okay.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Are there any crazy slaves in Ovirid's vicinity? How far is he from the Mithral Scarab?

There are a handful of slaves near the Mithral Scarab and they are all a bit off in their own way. One of them is trying to count grains of sand, picking up one grain at a time with his right hand and putting it into his left hand. A second slave is trying to kick his left hand while shouting, "Put them back! Leave them be!!". A third slave is trying to stop the second, but that's only making things worse. Ovirid can get to the Mithral Scarab. How far do you want to be from here?

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

He will move to about five feet to her left, facing toward her. He starts writing out nonsense in hieroglyphics in the sand with his finger. He will mutter to himself in different languages (that is, not Common/Taldan) loud enough for her to hear to see if she indicates understanding of any of them. (Dwarven, Giant, Gnomish, Goblin, Halfling, Orc are the options he has.)

He will try to surreptitiously observe those within earshot for a couple of rounds to ascertain if they are paying attention to him, if they are truly insane, etc. If none appear to be listening and she's not understanding anything but Common, he'll cross that bridge when he gets there.

The Mithral Scarab begins to repeat her naughty poem about the pirates and the sea hag in Dwarven, in which it sounds pornographic rather than racy.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius follows Sykala into the ship.

Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 Heehee, never has been one of her strong points....

Initiative (if needed): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Whoops, forgot that in air elemental form her dex is higher so add another +1 to both the stealth and the initiative.

Ixius and Sykala:
Ixius drops carefully through the hatch, landing with catlike grace on the reinforced sections of the deck so that the boards emit not even a squeak. Sykala blows by him ruffling cloth wall-hangings, half-shut doors, and papers. The man at the front turns around quickly, hand slipping discreetly to a rapier by his side.

He glances at Ixius and Sykala rather unsurprised to find them there and greets them like old friends, "Zixius! Treegirl! I say, isn't this a most fabulous vessel? I was lucky to have been in Sothis when this blew in. And your friend Hoffenburrow was willing to take me on as a pilot, particularly after I told him I knew you lot and had worked with you before. Unless there's a wind, she glides through the air like a drop of sweat down a Callistrian priestess's cleavage. Nice work if you can get it, I say!"

Esteban, smiling broadly, stands with his hands on his hips holding back the cloth of his Vudran-style cape so that it doesn't block his access to the rapier at his side.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid continues to study the others to see if any appear to be listening and/or understanding the dwarven exchange as stated, but he stops trying the other languages.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

DM, Sykala:

Spoiler:
"Esteban buddy! I thought that might be you. Nice work indeed, what is this thing for?"

Ovirid Thorvirson wrote:

They seem to be ignoring you, Ovirid.

Tarren could you describe the room Esteban is in for me please?

Little sparks of displeasure play through Sykala's ethereal form.

Sykala and Ixius:
Esteban is standing in a room with maps and levers. A swath of the room, from bottom to top is perforated with holes that allow him to see out. Most of the maps are of the desert and surrounding areas but there are also star charts. The levers are labelled with names like "starboard weights" and "stern anchorbag."

Did I answer your questions, Korian? The dretch gets its action and will probably get an AoO if Khymrasa does what I think she's about to do.

Ixius and Sykala:
"This thing," Esteban says with a grand smile, "Is Sage Hoffenburrow's personal airship! I've never seen anything like it, have you?"

"I say, have you seen the good sage?" asks Esteban, "He left over an hour ago to discuss access to this site with Exemplar Khymrasa."

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

DM and Sykala

Spoiler:
"It's quite amazing. What'ya doing with it? I haven't seen the Sand Sage today."

Sykala and Ixius:
Esteban looks slightly confused, "The Sand Sage? I meant Hoffenburrow, the Pathfinder. This is his ship. He hired me on in Sothis as his pilot. He's now meeting with the Examplar about access to the pyramid for that Secret Handshake Society of yours."

Hey sorry for the delay! I had a birthday and then a day of recovery from it. : p I did get all of that though thanks. I'll be able to post when I get back home tonight. And just I'm understanding everything. If the door was open, the cloud should have spread into the room as well, right? Or no?

It would spread through the curtains of the palanquin, so she'll have to make another save on the next round, but she made her save on the first round.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

DM and Sykala

Spoiler:
"I haven't seen Hoffenurrow either, and its not my Society. I'm just along for the ride."

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Following it's prey, the Dretch darts inside and attacks Kyhmsara's with it's teeth and claws.
Bite attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Claw 1 attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Meanwhile the crocodile continues it's assult on whichever enemy is within it's reach.
don't know if the croc is in range of any guards or not. If it is, please do feel free to make the rolls using your home dice. If you need me to roll though once I know there's a target, I can, no problem.

Meanwhile Korian, not sure if his allies besides Refina, who is just off somewhere behind him, uses the message cast earlier to whisper 'Ovirid, Sykala, Ixius, if you can hear me, report!'

The last slave master to move slow still managed to avoid getting bit and then fled. Only mad men remain near the croc. One of them attacks but fails miserably. Fumble! The slave falls over the croc's tail.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid responds in Dwarven:
Delivered in a kind of rambling sing song, "A dwarven lad went across the sand to find a friend he'd lost. He found her there fine, seemed to be out of her mind, and sat down to do the same. Now they act insane, he doesn't know her name, and they watch the crazy people go by."

The dretch gets Khymrasa with its teeth and claws, but her blurry outline misleads the dretch enough to lead one of the claw attacks astray.

Hoffenburrow, if that is who this is, tries to shout something but begins to cough and choke on the stench.

Examplar Khymrasa falls back onto a couch, her back against the wall, with nowhere further to retreat to. She touches her wrist and says, "Master Soan" and the man on the third palanquin disappears but Korian is aware of him reappearing within the palanquin standing between the dretch and Khymrasa.

She took a 5-ft. step, but now has nowhere left to go. She made her save, as did the man she summoned. The man she named as "Hoffenburrow" failed his. She used a bracelet of friends to bring "Master Soan" in.

The curtain of the third palanquin, that belonging to the Sand Sage, bursts open as if by a great wind but you see no one come out.

Ovirid:
The Mithral Scarab turns to him and speaks quickly, quietly, and in Dwarven, "I've been waiting for you lot. Your delays bought some time. Too many of their men were combing the desert for you. Hoffenburrow arrived before the entrance was unveiled. That counts as success but ..." She looks up at Exemplar Khymrasa's palanquin with concern.

There are a few slave masters attempting to pull two insane slaves apart. The spiritual ally could attack one of them.

Everyone should be in range of the message spell.
