Tomb of the Emperor Gods -- PbP

Game Master Tarren Dei

This PbP started with Entombed with the Pharaohs and continues with The Pact Stone Pyramid. Many of the characters travelled to Osirion after completing a PbP based on River into Darkness.

Hrokon

Tarren I didn't list anything that was cursed or whatnot as such. I'll leave that to you :) Also I'm sure some of the npc's used some of their potions, scrolls, etc... but I listed everything because I didn't know what. Things marked with an asterisk are magic items.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

OK, I have to know the specifics on the wand rifle. My DM's all giddy about the concept...

Several items have been divvy'd out - has everything found a home? Or are we worried about that? Ovirid just wants enough to get a curse removed.... ;-)

Hrokon vanished with his personal belongings and Esteban is a member of the party -- at least you offered a truce and he hasn't broken it.

Sykala ruined the wand rifle with her warp wood spell. ... Wait? You unwarped it? Is it possible to unwarp a magical item? I'm figuring that would not put the 'magic back in'.

Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:

Well, I don't get the impression it is a magic item at all, more an exotic weapon. It can be enhanced with magic if it has a bayonet from the description. However, warp wood doesn't actually destroy an item (though it's wording can be misleading) it just makes the item unusable or very difficult to use (-4 penalty to attack with a warped melee weapon, ranged weapons are useless). Because it doesn't technically destroy an item the spell Make Whole is useless to fix it's damage. So yes. in my opinion a warped magic item can be un-warped but that is just my opinion. I was actually under the impression magic items couldn't be warped at all but it doesn't seem to make that restriction under the spell description.

For Ovirid:
Wand Rifle
The wooden-barreled device can be loaded with up to two separate wands, enabling the user to cycle between them as a free action if desired. The rifle's slender barrel provides a +1 circumstance bonus on ranged touch attacks with discharged rays. Wand rifles are frequently outfitted with serrated bayonets, which share the statistics of short swords. Using a wand rifle properly (either with a ray or with its bayonet) requires the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat. For the purpose of adding magical enhancements, the wand rifles bayonet is always considered masterwork. The wand rifle itself is not truly a weapon and cannot be enhanced as one.
Kaldis Blacksquall, one of the Pathfinder's most secretive gear-fitters, created the original wand rifle. Blacksquall was found dead the morning after Scepter left the Pathfinders. A wand rifle costs 400 gp and weighs 3 pounds.

I don't think we are so much "worried" about it but I would just like to know what to write down on her sheet so that if I play her again I know what she has.

I think role-playing-wise we were letting Korian take the vast majority of the stuff to present to the society first. So who knows what we would be allowed to keep by them.

By "worried", I was thinking in terms of just that - whether the inventory would matter going forward. I would like to know what to put on his sheet, as well. And thanks for the write-up on the wand rifle. Got to say that's a great little item.

Looking at the spell description, I guess the wand rifle would be repairable.

Ok, just posting what I am putting on Sykala's sheet

Scroll of Stone Shape
Rod of Writhing
Mantis Figurine
Headband of Wisdom +2
Wand of Cure Light Wounds (40 charges)
Swan Boat Feather token
Bird Feather Token
Alchemist Fire (What can I say, she is an alchemist!)
Antitoxin
Smokestick
Sunrod (x2)

Anyone who wants anything that Sykala is absconding with just let me know. As I said; she is NOT in the least bit material so you all have first dibs.

Of course, I'll only bring her back if Tarren A) decides to run something else and B) he isn't totally sick of a druid that can go EVERYWHERE.

Now to level her up to 7th :)

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

This is what I already had on Ixius' sheet (except for the armor, which I remember taking):

ring of counterspells
+2 leather armor
wand of ray of frost
wand of false life
scroll of dispel magic
scroll of web
scroll of enlarge person

I don't see the wand of false life in the list.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4
Ixius wrote:

Look higher - under Radiant Pharoah, second item, 5 charges

There's not a lot that interests the non-magic-using dwarf, but the golembane scarab and hat of disguise could be useful. Ovirid has already claimed the goggles of minute seeing (described in-game as tiny glasses that perched on his nose, but here as a single lens?) Primarily, his interest is financial so he can get his curse lifted. (Yeah, I know, I sound like a broken record.)

And... seventh level?

Ovirid Thorvirson wrote:

We're using fast progression. What XP did you have when you started?

I was guessing that a whole adventure would be at least worth one level even on medium xp gain but my impression has been that you (Tarren) are not a particular fan of tracking xp (not complaining mind you). Just figuring you were going to use the hand wave method. Of course, if there was a 6th level adventure you had your heart set on we could always stay 6th. It's the role-playing not the leveling that is the important part. We'd be rich 6th level peeps tho! :)

Sorry Ovirid, I was just going with my interpretation from the module. I think the description of the goggles either way is purely cosmetic, so keep them the way you and Tarren imagined them and ignore my OCD-ness.

I have the following opinions on some of the remaining stuff. You guys should take a Swan Boat Feather token each as there were four (and there is still another bird feather token too). Ovirid should probably take the wracking rod (causes a little pain but is a great endless source of healing).

Hope to hear from Korian soon.

Honestly, I don't have any xp recorded from the Keep in the Cinderlands, just a question mark. To have enough xp to be sixth level, I should have had 15000. Another 14100 (I found your earlier post, I had missed it) would put me around mid-seventh. I was mostly confirming before I spent time on leveling up.

I know I said I was going to take Blind-Fight to reflect his experience in the blindfold, but does it make sense for someone with darkvision to do so under any other circumstances? I haven't decided if he's taking his fifth level of Rogue or his third level of Fighter, either. I did look at the APG to see if there were archetypes that I "should" have taken, and I think Shielded Fighter is an obvious choice... I like this part of the process, as you all probably already know.

Wanders off happily to peruse books...

I thought about the swan boat feather, but couldn't remember what the wracking rod did. Having looked it up, I can take that if the rest of the group is OK with that.

::looks sheepish:: I totally missed (or forgot - I can't remember ;) he put the total xp in a post too. All the gold and shiny objects distracted the player...

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

I have no problem with anything anyone has claimed. The only thing that stands out is that, if memory serves, Hrokon took the wracking rod. But maybe Ovrid won in back in a game of blind cards? ;) Here's the stuff Korian would like to claim. Ixus can of course take his pick from the rest, and if there's anything in this list he'd like just let me know. I'd say we could sell the rest, but as Korian plans to present most or all of it to The Society, only Tarren can really say for sure what/how much we end up with. Other then that, Korian will For Sure come back for a Tarren game. And level 7? Sounds fun! ; )

Korian:
-*Headdress of intellect +2
-*Microticon (her miniature spellbook)
-*4 swan boat feather tokens
-*Scrolls of command, death knell, detect secret doors (x2), detect undead, protection from evil, and sanctuary
-Steel devil-headed key (what does that go to I wonder?) (as a keepsake for fond memories of the Paracount! ;)
-*Pearl of power I
-*Scrolls of enlarge person, erase, fog cloud, haste, magic weapon
-*Wand of acid splash (25 charges)
-*Wand of scorching ray (15 charges)
-Wand rifle (now unwarped and functional thanks to Sykala ;)
-*Scrolls of unseen servant
-*Wand of cure light wounds (50 charges - a few used)
-*Wand of enlarged message (25 charges)

I think everyone should be at least mid-seventh. If you had more than the 15,000 xp for level 6 at the beginning, than you might be closer to 8th.

Korian, did you want the wand of cure light wounds? Listed that with Sykala since she was healing people with it but I have no problem giving it up if you want it. Thought maybe we would split up the swan feather tokens to one for each person (Sykala only wants to carry it because it's a pretty feather she really has no use for a boat - really she would use it to help other people out mainly). There is still another bird feather token up for grabs also. Lastly, you probably want to buy another set of goggles of minute seeing (or at least borrow Ovirid's) so you can use that nifty spell book you found.

Ovirid, you may want to take the Tomb Guard since it has not been claimed. It protects you if you ever fall in battle (nice item).

Ixius, you may want to take the potion of eagle's splendor. It'll add to your charisma and make your spell DC's go up for a lil bit.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4
Sykala wrote:

Oooh, yes please! I'll affix it to my shield, actually, rather than a weapon, but what a cool idea!

And if the wracking rod disappeared with Hrokon, so be it. It did sound like something the dwarf could utilize, though.

Hmmm, interesting. It does specifically say weapon (it attacks anyone trying to get to your body after you fall) but then again there are bashing shields. What say you Tarren? It does specify "foes" so I wonder how it determines a "friend". Don't want it attacking people trying to heal you and all that. I suppose somehow it knows (It's magic!)

Will Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

Sykala's curiosity gets the better of her and she opens the crystalline flask releasing the curses held within. Luckily she makes her save...and probably did it away from the group because she enjoys her privacy especially when dealing with potential alchemical mixtures and poisons. Not that one more curse really matters to Ovirid or the rest of us since we probably have to go get remove curses anyway to get rid of the bad runes.

Here's whats left. A few nice things still in here.

As long as the dwarf whacks someone with his shield once and awhile, I'll allow it.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4
Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:

That's a deal. It feels like he was largely a noncombatant in this adventure, but he's always been designed as a shield fighter. That's why I mentioned that archetype was an obvious choice for him. It wouldn't take effect until fighter level 3, which is what he's taking now, so the timing was perfect. He took the Shield Slam feat rather than Blind-Fight, but I may pick that one up at a later date...

As for the other items in the kitty, I'm surprised no one has picked up the Bracers of Armor +3. My chain shirt beats it, but I like having force armor if I come up against an incorporeal foe, so if no one wishes those, I guess I'll raise my hand. Other than that, he's only interested in items with resale value, heartless as that sounds.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius will take the potion of eagle's splendor.

Ovirid Thorvirson wrote:

No point for Sykala really. Her armor is far superior.

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Same for Korian, his Mage armor rates higher than the bracers.

Typo about the Swan feathers, only meant to put the one.

I missed that you'd listed the wand of CLW Sykala! Sorry. I have no problem if Sykala has it, but my thought was that maybe someone else that doesn't already have healing get it so as to have a back up healer in the (small) chance that Sykala was out of action or was the one needing the healing. Now I think on it more though, I think Ixus should have it as he has the highest UMD of the rest of us.

Also Ixus why don't you take the remaining arcane scrolls and wands? unless Ovirid wants to take a crack at them with his UMD?

Korian will take a bird feather if no one else wants it. He loves little magical do-dads after all ;) He'll also add the candle of truth if no one wants it.

I think Ovirid already claimed the bag of holding back in the Pyramid, yes?

And I think that's about it? We can sell and divvy up the rest. If someone wants to do the math to see who gets how big a share of gold vs the items, please feel free. I personally don't have enough computer time to do that these days.

and Almost 8th? Whoo-hoo! : D Can you maybe just give us all a XP amount Tarren and we'll call it that?

Oh PS, what does this do?: *Lesser Grimoire of Thrune

Khaladon wrote:

Ever seen Evil Dead?

Sure, if Ixius wants the wand of CLW than its his. Just a side note, Sykala rarely memorizes healing spells (only did in the pyramid because many of her typical spells were useless against undead) so I hope that your not relying on her to heal much of anything. She usually keeps one or two around in case of an emergency tho.

In this case I think Sykala should =take the wand of CLW.

So, if nobody objects, Ixius also takes:

scroll of comprehend languages
scroll of silent image
wand of ghost sound
wand of sleep

Ok, Sykala's is updated and ready to go with one exception: Hitpoint Roll: 1d8 ⇒ 2 Uh-oh, that's her first low roll.

She has now learned Auran so she can speak it while in air elemental form. It's their native language. I just can't see them speaking much of anything else because of physical limitations (sort of like us trying to speak a language based off color or sub-sonics). Of course, it doesn't help much because no-one else speaks it but she has a spell that helps with that.

P.S. I resurrected the discussion thread because it explains where some of the items went. Go check it out.

So I guess all the loot and stuff is settled? By any chance anyone work out how much GP each of us gets? And any thoughts yet Tarren on whether you're up for helming another round of fantastic RPing? : )

Unless Korian's been rolling very high for hp, I'd let you reroll that.

I'm still thinking about what to do next. It's hard to find the time these days.

Has anyone/everyone played Fellnight Queen by our buddy Neil Spicer?

I think I saw Pact Stone Pyramid at my FLGS. Has everyone played that or are you anxious to get out of the desert?

BTW, Rite Publishing has just published my "30 Haunts for Ships and Shores" so, be prepared for a sea voyage.

Also, if we lose any players, than I'd suggest finding a new player who can channel divine energy.

I have not played it and I'm fine staying in the desert if that's what the group chooses.

Congratulations! I might opt for a different character on a sea voyage - not sure.

I have not. I own it but like most of my paizo adventures it just gets shelved for a rainy day. So I have no clue other than it has something to do with fey.

Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:

I'm good with this too. Own it but again no clue. Wish I could let you borrow my copy if you wanted to run it.

Congratz! But why our Swan Boat Feather tokens are all suddenly haunted I'll never understand.

Divine, check! Channel, no.

Actually, I buy a lot of adventures so that I can play them too. When I feel like playing and someone doesn't have anything to run I hand them a stack of my stuff that I have heard good things about (good reviews, etc..) or just look cool (I'm a sucker for cover art).

As for the next journey, I do not own nor have I played any of those modules. Don't even have any idea what their about other than what you've all just said. Any adventure helmed by you Tarren is great with me, but since we're already in the dessert and Korian is a desert-born character I'm kinda partial to another sandy romp.

And ya, a divine channel would be dandy! There's only four of us at present anyway, so does that mean we already have room for a 5th?

Mmmmmmm, dessert. My adventure sweet-tooth is intrigued.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

I own both modules and have read both, but do not remember much, it was a while ago. I do remember really liking Fellnight Queen, but the Pact Stone Pyramid seems more thematic, and isn't it the sequel to the one we just finished?

Seems to be. Is that a good or bad thing as far as you're concerned?

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Neither, I guess. I would gladly play in either.

Well, then I'll start preparing Pact Stone pyramid. And we can start heading back. Any special preparations on the way? How do you deal with your prisoner?

Nothing special from Sykala other than giving him a haircut and the promised threat of dire actions should he ever decide to head back to the Mwangi. As far as preparations go Sykala casts Grove of Respite whenever we rest and Endure Elements on whomever needs it. Other than that she travels with everyone high above in the clouds.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

If he's not tasked with doing something specific, Ovirid spends the trip back grumbling about 1000-year-old curses and how they should have a date of expiration... He will gratefully accept the Endure Elements if offered.

You do reach a point where travelling by river will shave time off your journey (reducing the burden on the camels). Do you use your swan feather tokens to do this? They can only be used once.

I don't see why not, we have to use them sometime.
