Tomb of the Emperor Gods -- PbP

Game Master Tarren Dei

This PbP started with Entombed with the Pharaohs and continues with The Pact Stone Pyramid. Many of the characters travelled to Osirion after completing a PbP based on River into Darkness.

PS Tarren, I hope it's ok, but I just realized Korian had a feat-Quicken Spell, that he couldn't actually use yet-because he doesn't have 4th level spells. So if it's ok with you I'm changing it to Improved Initiative. If not, that's ok too, just let me know either way.

No problem.

Khaladon: That's perfect - I'll leave additional details to you.

Dark Arioch: What a riot! I hadn't seen the thread yet when I first saw Kaladon's remark -- I didn't realize Ovirid was the one Sykala couldn't understand. LOL!

lol, looks like things will be interesting to say the least ;) Nice posts by the way, both of you. Hopefully, Ix will show up soon.

I think you would be at the lodge as well.

I'm loving the interaction between Sykala and Ovirid. I hope you all are, too! She's a great character, very well done, DA!

Thanks :) She is my favorite actually.

EDIT: just read yours. Am enjoying Ovirid also. Gonna give the others a chance to pipe in before I respond again.

No problem... I still have to Post my Character Profile on Paizo... just gotta find the time... :/

There isn't a lot on that list of magic items that I really liked unfortunately. :(
I took a couple, but still have a bit of cash left over from that 10,000gp.

Tarren, do we also get a chance to buy magic items with the cash we got from the last adventure (and sell them as well). If so, are you going to provide a list of what we can purchase?

Heh, nevermind. I lied and posted again. Couldn't help myself.

Yeah, me too. I think it's run it's course, though. I was debating attempting to steer your darling girl into the chapter house, but I didn't do it.

Hey, you never did tell me where in STAP your duskblade bought the farm and got reincarnated. Was it perchance in the mummy's tomb? We lost our rogue there. No PC deaths until 7th level, and we lost two in near-consecutive sessions.

It was indeed to the trap in the mummies tomb. We had just faced the mummies and I had 1 hitpoint left with mummy rot to boot(no healing). I opened the sarcaphogus thinking we would beat another mummy into paste with the hopes of finding some cure. Well, I did get cured (the hard way!) and then reincarnated (the forth level round after death version). Woke up as a half-elven woman next to my pin-cushioned old human male body. That screwed with his/her head for a bit, let me tell you. He had a 'thing' going with Lavinia to boot. Their reunion was interesting to say the least.

LOL! Well, I got hit by that trap hoping for a cure, but I wasn't the one with mummy rot -- that was our healer, who wasn't high enough level to do anything about the curse yet! We heard a lot of "I can heal you. At least you don't have mummy rot." for the next few months of play.

My elf was quietly hoping to start a thing with Lavinia. That was seriously dashed when he woke up a gnoll after the reincarnation. Of course, he found out later that the heretofore mentioned dead rogue already had something going that no one was aware of. I think my now-gnoll's jaw is still on the floor from that little surprise.

We just finished preparing Farshore for the invasion. I expect Friday to be an epic battle -- we'll see how we did with our prep.

Let's wait a bit but before the adventure proper begins you can visit the markets. Potions and scrolls will be very common but I've never liked the magical Walmart feeling.

Khaladon, I think you might have the wrong avatar on your post in the game thread. I thought it was one of our missing characters, but the words seem to be those of Korian. You might be able to edit and change it yet.

Asim

Spoiler:

Hey, this is just an idea I was toying around with but let me know what you think of it. It seems that for this adventure Asim and Korian are to be sort of taking on a dual leadership role as the two resident Pathfinder Society members. My thoughts on that were, as Korian is an extremely intelligent lad, but Is really still just a very young man, perhaps he could be the 'behind-the-scenes' leader. As in, whenever it is just the party themselves present, he would more be the one to be calling the shots, so to speak, and in a public setting or when there are others around, big, intimidating, Asim would take on the leadership role, being the one to generally speak for the party. Of course this is only in the IC sense, as Players we all have an equal say in everything. But for the RP element, what do you think of that? Or something along those lines anyway?

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Tarren & Asim

Spoiler:

Tarren, are you going to let us know when the item we're to bid on comes up? Or are you like, going to make it subtle with clues or some such? ;-)
Also, can Korian make more than one history check throughout the auction?

Regarding the prearranged pattern of bidding for meeting the Mithral Scarab, she would have given you a signal to use, but you can decide what it is. The signal could have been something like bidding in the Osirion tongue, using only prime numbers in your bidding, wearing a purple scarf, or someting like that. Bidding on a specific item could be a poor clue as many people might bid on that item.

Now, there are items in this lot that might contain clues that will help you later on. I will not tell you which items those are. Some of the 'clues' might be distractors and not so helpful.

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Can you please give us the list of items up for auction? And any suggested prices or whatever that may go with them?

And Gang, how much gp does everyone have? Or more importantly, how much are they willing to contribute to purchasing something if need be?
Korian has about 1,500+ to spend.

Also Terran, you haven't yet answered the question if the Society will be able to provide desert garb/equipment to those that need it or if they have to provide it themselves?

PS I should also state before it's too late that it's Korian's standard practice whenever he goes in public for any amount of time longer than a few minutes to cast Mage Armor on himself from his wand. If he knows ahead of time that he will be out for hours, he'll cast it himself. Right now, before leaving for the auction he cast from his wand, sharing it with his familiar Jinx (As Always) of course.

Khaladon wrote:

Ovirid has virtually no coin to offer.

Khaladon wrote:

I was going to list them one at a time but, if there is no interest in playing out the social encounter, I may speed through it.

The society can supply inexpensive things like robes etc. but equipment will cost. If the party wants to go into debt to the Pathfinder Society, they can, but the Society will expect the debt to be repaid.

Understood but best to mention it at the beginning of each day.

Re: your answers re the Society, thanks, and that all sounds fair to me. For the rest...

Personally I have no problem RPing through the scene Tarren, I'm actually looking forward to it. But normally auctions do provide a list of items up for bid before hand.

And for practical reasons, I wanted to know the list so that Korian doesn't blow his wad on one of the early items when there could be much better/cooler/more appropriate items coming up. But at the same time, I don't want to wait for 'the best' item and end up missing something we didn't bid on earlier when we had the chance. Also, it makes sense to me that Korian would have applied his knowledge history to the list of items beforehand so he would already have a good idea on what he most wanted to bid on (as most attendees at an auction do) and could even share with his comrades which items he thinks it most essential they try and get ownership of. Remember, Korian's a history buff and an artifact and relic nut so this is like the Superbowl or Indy 500 to him! ;-)
I haven't really RPed it in yet but I should cause he's Excited! When he gets like that though he tends to dramatically underplay it, especially in public, because he worries that expressing his excitement only accentuates his youth.

If it helps, I'll give a bunch of K History rolls here now:
K History 1-5:
(Ha! Of course IC is out again when I try this. Strange it was working earlier today...anyway. Today I used this site I just found:
http://rpgp.org/dice/ it seems OK, mostly crappy rolls but that could just be me ;-). If you click 'Dice Room' I created a room called 'Tombs of the Emperor Gods', so if you go to that room you should be able to see the rolls. Here they all are anyway. )
Results of 1d20+6

2) 8
3) 12
4) 22
5) 10

If asked Sykala has 400 gp to offer. She generally relies on Fippen to handle the buying and selling of things for her so I imagine he could easily get that from her for the cause. She personally generally places very little value in coin.

sorry to thread jack here, but TerraNova is waiting to hear a response from you in the Edge of Anarchy OOC

Hey Tarren! I have no idea how/why this happened, must have been a bout of dyslexia or something, but Korian's K History mod is +9, not plus 6, so all of those rolls should have been 3 higher. Don't know if that makes any difference. sorry about that >_>

We understand, it happens to all of us from time to time. Be well : )

Regarding Esteban being there:

Spoiler:

I know it seems impossible but we are playing a game with elves and all. If you look at the map of Golarion and find where Nightfall Station was (between Nantambu and the Buunta Flow) and follow the Vanji to where one of its tributaries ends at the Ruins of Kho, you can see a pass to The Crook (the river that leads to Sothis). If you were Esteban, a sailor who wanted to get as far from Bloodcove as possible without being seen by your fellow sailors, you'd quite possibly end up in Sothis.

I'm making a substitution for an NPC that was in the adventure.

Yes I am and once again I am very sorry. Work was exceedingly crap for me this week and other than a little bit of Off-Topic stuff I have barely had a chance to post at all this week in any of my PbPs. I know I said I'd catch up and I sincerely hope to do so tomorrow on my (fingers crossed) day off.

If you find that I am being unreliable Tarren please feel free to boot me form your games and I fully understand, but I would still very much like to continue if you will still have me.

This looks like it's going to shape up to be a fun pbp, but I've found that lately my interest in pbps has really waned- rl has been very busy. So I think that Fippin will disappear into the streets of Sothis. Thanks Tarren- sorry if I held anything up.

I understand. That's why I start with 6 players for the PbPs. When work gets busy, it's hard to keep the enthusiasm up.

(As far as party roles go, are we still going to be okay?)

EDIT: Man, we have 'rogue' covered, don't we?! You might want to consider bringing some extra healing potions with you, guys.

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Sorry to hear that P.H.D, was looking forward to finally getting to actually be in a game with ya. Oh well, maybe next time. : )
Good luck with all the RL stuff.

Tarren, that sounds like a Very good idea. With this many rogues, I'm sure we can manage to work a wand or two as well.

And thanks for the Laughs! I literally LoL'd a few times now and Ovirid and Korian's crappy Diplomacy rolls. = )

Ok, and So, I was working out the stuff from teh auction, what we put in, what we spent and what we should have left, and I cam up with these numbers.

Maps -50gp
Statue-1,400
Charcoal rubbings-140
TOTAL-1490

Missed out on the:
-Weights (went for 750 to the Arch Docent)
-Statuette (went to Crook Bearer for 210)

1,200 Ixius -520=680gp left 35%
400 Sykala -150=250gp left 10%
1,750-Korian -820=930gp left 55%

If these look ok to everyone, great. If anyone sees any mistakes or has any problems with them, please let me know.

I was also thinking maybe it might not be a bad idea to offer to buy the two remaining items off of the Arch Doecnt and the Crook Bearer (more so the weights than the first statue)
Or, a more fun alternative may be to try and steal them! =D
Would anyone be up for that?

But for now I'll wait to see what happening with the blind man and the Scarab. Maybe they'll know more about it?

Khaladon wrote:

Not with Ovirid's Charisma, he's not. UMD isn't even on his radar.

I believe he still has a number of CLW potions, but not enough for an entire party.

Dark Archive

If you wished to purchase the missed items that is fine as Sykala certainly doesn't ask for any left over monies.

So you did Tarren, it's right there. My apologies. Strange, I looked at your post several times and simply didn't see it, maybe some weird mental block. Or maybe I've been on the computer too long ;-) At least it's not as bad as the times when I drive by a building or something in my neighborhood, and the thing has been there for several years, and I say "Hey! When did That get there??" :P So, what next? Did Raegos have any response to Korian's last whispered words? Is the Scarab still silent now we've left the tent?
