Male Human (Garundi) Shaman 2 Rogue 2

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

So, Plugg knew what those villains were about, did he? And Chumlett is Plugg's man, apparently, tasked with showing us our place...What will Plugg make of his failure, I wonder/ One thing's certain, in Plugg's eyes, we have just made ourselves all the more dangerous.

Daily Task: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Kerruk's intent for the day is to work diligently, and not push his luck as a Diplomatist any further than needs be.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Resigned to his fate, Jack awaits news of his daily chores, observing the pirate crew do the same.
Daily Task: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Not surprising really, in retrospect. I didn't think this morning's rumble would have occurred unsanctioned by the leadership. But now, we are in a dangerous position. Maybe we ought to each have feigned defeat

Kerruk:
Hauling Rope and Knot Work: Tying and untying knots in the ship’s ropes and moving heavy coils of rope from one part of the ship to another, requiring a DC 10 Profession (sailor) or Strength check. The PC must also make a DC 10 Constitution check to avoid being fatigued at the end of the day

Jack:
Special Occasion: Captain Harrigan is celebrating something today, and wants one of the ship’s pigs butchered and cooked for dinner. The PC must make a DC 10 Profession (cook) or Survival check to slaughter the animal, then help Kroop to clean, cut, and prepare the carcass. If Kroop is sober, no additional check is required. If Kroop is drunk, this requires a DC15 profession cook or intelligence check

Male Human (Garundi) Shaman 2 Rogue 2

Profession (Sailor): 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 4 = 16

Constitution check: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10

That's a better day's work...hopefully others noticed that I am, in sooth, a trueborn sailor, if not a pirate...

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

It seems you will probabky pass your skill checks anyway, but the game info says friendly NPCs can aid these rolls, for at least +2

Male Human (Garundi) Shaman 2 Rogue 2

hmmm...anyone around to pitch in, I wonder?

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Profession(cook): 1d20 ⇒ 12
Don't know if I have a bonus or not.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

I think Jack may have a +2 bonus from friendly cook.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Well, what I can cook is more than what our captain deserves, but still, better that I play this one safely. Now I will see what friendship earns aboard this ship.

Jack goes on to the kitchen wondering what to do. But luck! Here comes fair Sandara Quinn.

My fair lady Quinn! It is fair to see thee. I must confess that I am distraught, for our glorious Captain asks for a feast tonight, a roasted pig. A pig I can slaughter no doubt! But alas, I know nothing of roasting meats, except that it involves the application of fire to flesh. Master Kroop I have convinced to teach me his craft, but alas he has little more skill than I! I beg thee for forgiveness, but gleenest thou ought that might help me in my trial?

cook check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Staring, bewildered at the bleeding carcass, Jack despaired as what to do next. Sandara had tried to be helpful, but either she had no idea how to cook a whole pig either, or Jack was too stupid to understand. Maybe both. But what to do now?

Oi! Master Kroop! It was my good fortune this morning to have met some of our fellow seamen, for I heard it from them that the captain has taken it into his head that unless this evening's meal is fit for royalty, that thou willst be cook no more, but work the bilges, or worse. Come let us make the best of it!

bluff: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

I believe that last level your bonus was +6 not +5
+1 skill point +3 class skill bonus +2 Cha bonus but nice roll!

Arden's actions:
profession sailor with assist: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Sneak perception check to check out the poop deck: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

Perhaps I'll perform tonight. Do I have enough in me to do it though? I know we kind of leveled up, but does that mean I get extra performances today, or do I need to wait for the new day?

The day proves to be a clear one; some would think it a boon for sailors, but not for a swab. The work on the main deck was horrendous under the potent rays of the sun. Master Scourge, never one for mercy, wanted to hear nothing of excuses and kept up a furious pace for those working on the ship. Taptap and Kerruk, in spite of the harsh conditions, proved very effective in carrying out their tasks for the day. Taptap was often where he needed to be before needed, and Kerruk was even able to show some of the other swabs some useful hints in knotwork.

Jack is able to take apart one of the pigs well enough, though he creates a bit of waste at which Kroop shrugs and throws in a stockpot. As Jack cooks, a change seems to come over the seasoned old chef. He watches Jack closely, adding in his own hints of this or that as he goes. Much to Jack’s surprise, he even splashes some of his own rum into the dish instead of his own gullet. Just before serving, Fishguts is smiling with pride, cold sober, and with a meaty arm around Jack’s shoulders. Ahh, ma’ boy…now that’s the way I used ta’ cook! A fine one, you’ll make…a fine one indeed! Tell ya’ what, why doncha’ take this and read up. He pulls a massive tome out of a low drawer and blows the dust off of it.
Well done – you’ve changed Fishguts from friendly to helpful, and you now have a cookbook that will give you a +1 to profession (cook), making it a known skill.

Arden is able to perform her rope work with ease, gliding among the lines and high sails. She takes the time to look over some of her surroundings from her high perch, and discovers quite a bit about the poop deck.

poop deck:
This raised deck stands 15 feet above the main deck. The mizzenmast rises 30 feet above this deck. The ship’s bridge protrudes forward of the mizzenmast, and holds the ship’s wheel. The wheel is 3 feet across and has 10 spokes decorated with silver inlays, its bolts carved to resemble kraken heads. An iron cage hangs from the side of the mizzenmast, containing the body of some poor, dead soul. An ugly parrot perches atop the cage, still waiting for its master to awaken. Mr Plugg, spends most of his time on this deck, as does the captain if he is out on deck.

The day proceeds rather uneventfully into the evening; at bloody hour, the pirates gather on the main deck, and a few light punishments are doled out….though none to you.
Night actions, please! New 2nd level attributes start immediately, so play away! Arden fills you in on the poop deck, so feel free to read

Male Human (Garundi) Shaman 2 Rogue 2

I've achieved enough - and risked enough - for one day, and i'truth, I'd rather be abed after that long hot slog with that fool Plugg wafting around. What will he attempt next, I wonder?

Kerruk bids his friends good night after the evening meal and retires to his hammock.

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

I'd like to use a bardic performance Sea Shanty

Sea Shanty (SU):
A sea singer learns to counter seasickness and exhaustion during long sea voyages. Each round of a sea shanty, he makes a Perform skill check. Allies within 30 feet (including the sea singer) may use his Perform check in place of a saving throw against becoming exhausted, fatigued, nauseated, or sickened; if already under such an effect, a new save is allowed each round of the sea shanty, using the bard’s Perform check for the save. A sea shanty has no effect on instantaneous effects or effects that do not allow saves. This ability requires audible components.

I'd like to perform this Sea Shanty en mass to the crew. Sounds like they had a rough day...and I might win a few friends. I guess this is an attempt at influence...

Tap stands on a crate and shouts:
Sailors. Hard asses! Tired brothers. The day was long. The sun was hot. Bring your weary selves near and I will sing a song to ease and encourage you down to yer 'ol tired bones.

SeaShanty Round1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23 This should help this crew feel good after a grueling day

Ol' Bones.
Ol' Bones.
And it's...
Windy weather, boys, stormy weather, sailors,
When the wind blows, we're all together, ;
blow ye winds, blow,
Blow ye winds westerly,
Bring yourself up! Stand yourself Tall!

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 I wonder if I made an impression

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

While eating his meal, Jack observes the ship, too what if anything he can learn about Peppery Longfarthing's lab.

perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

He then notices Jack Scrimshaw.

Good even, Jack Scrimshaw, how fare thee after our morning's entertainment? Come share with me this rum of mine. I have had the smell enough of it down below. I spend the day in the kitchens with our Master Kroop. He says that a cook will I be, and fine one too. In truth I am learning, but a swam am I, and miss the sea breeze. But more miss I the news. Where has this ship been, and where is it headed? What was the captain celebrating, yesterday? Forgive me, but I am starved for news.

diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

taking 20 on perception
I think, that I can take Tap's Perform check as my constitution, check, correct?
stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 lordylordy

Sandara bids Kerruk a good night before he slips away, her enchanting smile back after the morning's fisticuffs. Arden takes her leave as well, though she slips away under shadow in her typical way.

As soon as Taptap begins his song, Fipps snorts and laughs from his seat near the arm wrestling barrel. He's quickly silenced by a glare from Rosie, who puts her arm up for the next challenger. The rest of the ship quiets as well, as the words of his song begin to sink in. They seem to sit lighter, laugh easier, as if a weight lifts off of their shoulders. At the end of the verse, there are several hoots and calls for more.

You enjoy an additional +2 on any social interactions for the next 24 hours. Jack, Kerruk, and Arden do as well, by association.

Jack Scrimshaw walks easily over to join Jack, his posture one of complete relaxation, the activities of the morning long forgotten. Oy, Jack...quite a meal ya' cooked there! Awww...who knows what goes on with that one...Barnabas Harrigan ain't one ta' question though, and I for one am a happy man not knowin' his doin's. We been ta' a bunch a' ports, though we jes stay fer a day, get new fellas' like yerselfs, and move on. Plugg sure ain't never taken an interest like he has with you four, though. I'd watch out fer that one.

Congratulations; you've moved Jack from friendly to helpful; note the difference in the campaign info section. With Fishguts' earlier, that's 400 XP for everyone today.

You take a few moments during the dead of night to slip away, and you investigate Peppery's lab, which is on the main deck. You're able to get a good angle underneath the door - good enough to see inside. Knowing that Peppery Longfarthing is the ship's sailing master and resident sorceror, you're not overly suprised at the curious and perhaps unsettling things that she studies. The door is locked, and you feel a faint buzzing about it...like a faint sense of some danger centered around the handle. Inside, the pale moonlight illuminates jars of oddities, from small sea animals long dead to squirming nightmares looking like finger long maggots with pincers. A sextant ticks away from side to side like a clock, seemingly broken or enchanted with some strange incantation.

Yes, sorry...and...darn.

A voice calls out, disturbing you from your rather odd perch of having your face to the slats of the deck, your backside high in the air. It's a pirate you've yet to meet - a rough looking human woman with astoundingly large ears. 'Ey! You there! Whatcha' doin?

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

I retirr afyer singing.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Startled, Jack toppled backwards, thinking quickly.
Where art thou, lady from the sea? For I saw thee rise up like white mist from the bay and soar above the sails, and then down to this door. Thy fair countenance, I thought, beckoned me to follow... But no, was that a dream? Thou art another! and where am I? Please, I beg thee to speak of this to no-one; for if what I saw were true, then I fear what it might mean, and if it were only a dream, I am ashamed, for it is not since my mother died in child birth that I have so walked in dream.

bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

I'm a dirty lyin bastard.

The woman snorts in disgust. Go on an' sleep if off, ya' lousy drunk!. She then turns and wanders off, muttering something about holding one's liquor.

Nice one; want to do anything else tonight?

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

A bit rattled at how close he had come to real trouble, Jack sneaks off back to bed.

Male Human (Garundi) Shaman 2 Rogue 2

OK, so that was close...good thinking, Jack

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

Taptap stares blankly at the darkness from his hammock, listening to the quiet night sounds of his floating prison.

I did not choose this. I did not choose this. I did not choose!
Tap feels his heart and bruised fists clench. grra Sh@t damn hell

Tap lets out a small breath and tries to calm himself down...and lets his mind wander.

Ahh Tap, his mother's voice comes to him,—does that matter? Were you still ashore or on a well-run trading frigate, would you be any free-er Tap? The illusion of choice is not freedom, so do not let this tub rot your hopes. You had the wanderlust and left your home, as young halflings are wont to do, and nowyou are on a high adventure!

Tap breathes out. Slowly.

Be here now. This moment. Capture it. Live it. Enjoy this moment, even in all its bruises and bad food.

Tap lets out a slow quiet yawn.
What I and my new mates need is organization, a joint plan of action, a purpose...or we are bound to all feel the keel-haul one day.

As if to accentuate this point, Tap senses a small movement in the corner of his eye as Jack, ye ole X-eye, steps into the room and slips into his caught hammock.

What does Jack want...besides a good ale and a plump lass on his lap?
And Kerruk?
heh what do you want Tap?

Taps eyes narrowed in the darkness. I want to slit the captain's throat and take his boat

The night continues uneventfully, though the accomplishments of the day linger and prove even more evident the next morning when, as the four newest pirates awake and slip out of hammocks, other pirates are there to greet them with a jibe or a friendly clap on the back.

Sandara glides in among you as you gather your wits. She seems quite well done for having just woken up. You've done quite well for yourselves thus far...now, I think we need to get some of your goods back...whaddya' think? 'Ol Grok is on to me, I think, but that's not to say that my word doesn't carry some weight still. I will take one of you to get some of your items; I'm not sure how much we can come away with, but we can try. Think about what you could use most urgently, and we'll do what we can. She clenches her teeth around her pipe and tips her hat, her eyes shining in merriment.

Rosie steps up, and wallops Tap on his posterior...which is in fact quite painful...then winks. A good morn', I hope...sure ain't tha' best it could be...could use a different boat. She laughs out at her own jest, then moves along, only to turn and call over her shoulder. Keep a look out topside...some weird bird's been circlin' tha' ship for a while now.

And, good morning! Please roll 1d6 for your day's tasks, and let me know your proposed actions for the day.

Arden:

As soon as he wakens, Kerruk is aware of Tuvor's presence. A slow smile creases his face even as joy suffuses his limbs and quickens his heart. Soul-friend! You found me.[/]
Nonetheless, his ingrained caution covers his excitement - [i]This could be dangerous, for Tuvor and me both
- and he makes his unhurried way up the gangplank and into the morning light.
He spots Tuvor circling immediately, and moves to the side of the boat, holding up his hand to wave a welcome.
What will they make of this, I wonder? he muses as Tuvor swoops down and alights on the railing of the boat. The vague nimbus of starlight that framed the bird as it flew is now gone, but any who look can see that the osprey is unlike any other they have seen: despite the brightness of day, it is bedecked in an image of the night sky, stars twinkling dimly.
Hello, bird, he murmurs, but pitches his voice so that anyone close by can hear him. It's been a while now. fare thee well?

On a more mundane note...

Chores: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Male Human (Garundi) Shaman 2 Rogue 2

Good formatting there

Kerruk:
Today it's repairs - sewing sails and splicing rope. Please roll a DC10 prof sailor or dex check.

You get a feeling of relief and contentment from Tuvor. Though the bird draws some interest among the crew, the officers largely seem to discount it as a childlike fancy.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Groaning, Jack opens his eyes amid the commotion. The day cannot have begun already, can it have?

Just then he catches sight of Sandara, and the appearance of drowsiness flees his countenance; Jack leaps out of bed. A good morn to thee Lady Quinn.

As Sandara explains her plan, Jack smiles. I would go with thee, my lady Quinn, for my heart yearns to grasp again my sturdy cutlass. But I think perhaps our Tap, or Arden, would be more suited? I am noticed, it seems, over much wherever I go.

job: 1d6 ⇒ 1

If I can get away a bit today, I might see a bit more of this ship. But let's see what chores the day brings, first. I do wonder what bird that was that seemed so odd to Rosie, but so pleasing to Kerruk...

Male Human (Garundi) Shaman 2 Rogue 2

Profession (Sailor): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Not my best work...

Jack:
A fairly easy day of cooking awaits; DC10 profession sailor or int check. Kroop seems sober today, and seems to want to talk of old times. You could use a daily action to chat with him, or finish your check and move on. You can also search an area of the ship - just let me know if you're trying to sneak or ahirk, and where. As for the bird, it seems unwilling to leave Kerruk's side.

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

Aye, or Kerruk has a good eye and a convincing demeanor Tap nods to Jack. Sleep you well?

Turning to Sandara I would indeed like to have my halfling sling staff back, but I may not be able to hide it well....but I wonder whether we might convince Grok to five back Rosie's fiddle...for I'd love some accompanying strings with my singing shanty this eve.

Looking over at Kerruk,
Kerruk seems to have found his inner strength...he seems..happy.

Well on to the day.

professioncheck: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 when jack leveled up, against the advice of Tap, Jack expended a skill point on cooking as a profession. Since profession is a class skill, I took +3+1. and +1 for cook book. But I'm totally not sure that I'm right.

Damn, he burned the fish again.

Jack is going to work, but take a quick sneak peak at the quartermaster's store. I think the kitchen is the galley, and the quarter master store is right next to it. I assume though this is not something that Jack sees constantly in his work in the galley.

Should anyone mention to Kerruk that he accompany Sandara Quinn to retrieve items from Cut-throat Grok, he is more than happy to do so.

Colours are so much brighter today...suddenly the impossible seems possible. I will not abandon my search for ancient artifacts or for new shores fair or foul. But how much better would it had I and my new friends - good folk, stout of heart all - our own vessel...And if Plugg and Scourge were to feed the fishes, could they stomach such a feast!

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

Tap notes Kerruk working the ropes, and walks over to him and leaning up close
Hey Kerruk! Sandara thinks she can get some more of our stuff back. You're a pursuasive fellow, might you attend her aa she visits Grok?
..While a blade or bow of some sort would be nice, I have a mind to get Rosie's fiddle back, as a gift of sorts I can surprise her with tonight performance.

Remember +2 on all rolls for social inyeractions today

Male Human (Garundi) Shaman 2 Rogue 2

Aye Kerruk grins. I'll do that, then.
When he can spare a moment, Kerruk seeks out Sandara.
Sandara he smiles brightly. let us seek out Cut-throat Grok and reclaim a little more of our stolen goods.

I'll try to score that fiddle and one of my Cure Light Wounds potions. Not too sure about Jack's cutlass, but I'll do what I can, with a little bit of help from my good buddy Charm Person. Any guesses as to what Arden might want?

Taptap:
It's rope hauling and knot work, today - tying and untying knots in the ship's ropes and moving heavy coils of rope from one part of the ship to another. Please roll a DC10 profession sailor or strength check, and a DC10 con check....though we know you may not need that.

Jack:
Though you struggle with the fish, Kroop is there to lend a hand, and you pull through the meal with his help, perhaps learning something in the process. While you're working in the galley, you're able to look around it, finally having time to notice the things areound you. The crapmed and chaotic kitchen holds two wooden worktables, several wooden cupboards, and two small stoves against the port wall, as well as virtually every cooking utensil imaginable and a frightening array of meat cleavers. A score of chickens and three goats wander freely throughout the chamber, the goats are meant to be caged, but have a distressing tendency to escape their bonds. The kitchen is a madness of dirt, food, and knives. The stoves are prepetually lit, and large cauldrons bubble away atop them at all times. A huge array of spices mingle with barrels of rainwater, two tuns of rum, cupboards full of ship's biscuit and salted beef, barrels of sauerkraut, and a dwindling supply of fresh vegetables picked up in Port Peril.
You see among the mess a pair of handaxes being used as cleavers, and a tall spear resting against one wall...and you feel that more could be found in the mess given time.

As you sneak around the middle deck to the Quartermaster's Store, you notice a large figure in the shadows - one you had previously not seen as he was shielded behind some sort of screen obviously set up for his privacy. The figure is tanned, muscular, and large, and his skin is dotted with black stops and white feathers. He sits on a barrel, breathing loudly with his back to the galley.

The Quartermaster's store is a cramped, crowded storeroom containing numerous barrels, boxes, and chests. There is a locked door with a 3 foot square security hatch through which te figure within can transport goods for a price. There is a great deal of goods here - tuns of rum, and 2 lockers, 2 chests, 1 wooden trunk, and 1 metal trunk. Cut throat Grok, seated on a stool within the storeroom, doesn't notice your investigations, her attention on a book she seems to be having a terrible time of reading; until Kerruk and Sandara show up, that is.

Fishguts gave you a +2 assist in cooking

Kerruk:
While not your best performance, you fulfil your duties well enough to get by and stay out of Plugg's notice.

Sandara guides Kerruk down into the Middle Deck, and offers a nod to the cook - Ambrose "Fishguts" Kroop, and his helper Jack, before slipping around to the Quartermaster's store beside it. The Quartermaster's store is a cramped, crowded storeroom containing numerous barrels, boxes, and chests. There is a locked door with a 3 foot square security hatch through which te figure within can transport goods for a price. That figure, Cut-throat Grok, stands up at Sandara's entrance, and snorts. You again, eh? What is it this time, a sea hag in your special britches, 'bout ta' spring out and tear out me' eyes?

Sandara smiles, then shakes her head. It's not my goods, Grok...these new pirates, their goods aren't clean. You have to know that the cap'n pays no attention to such things, so you and I have to watch out for him. Bad magic can sink a ship quicker than a buried rock. Now, wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry?

She looks to Kerruk, and after a moment so does Grok.

Jack witnesses this as well. You know from Sandara that Grok is very superstitious, but also is good friends with Fishguts, and enjoys tall tales and crude humor.

'tis true, what Sandara here says: I am one who has had speech with the spirits of the stars and the deep, and truly, I tell you, there is witchery at work here. I can sense it...
Then he smiles and favours Grok with an awkward bow.
