At low levels, a Spheres user can do more on a long day than a Vancian caster because they do have at will abilities. But they don't have the wild power levels of mid- and high-level Vancian casters. I think it's balanced. I'm currently playing a hedgewitch in another campaign on the boards and IRL I GMed a group through Entombed with the Pharaohs using SoP. There are some small things you don't notice at first, though--like how most Sphere casters don't have an equivalent of Detect Magic (they have to put a magic talent in the Divination sphere for that).

Spheres of Might is a system by the same publisher for martial characters. It looks like a lot of fun, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Digger Chandler's submission here.

Sezelrian is a creepy-looking elf with sunken but bright eyes, a prominent "Hawk" nose, and close-cropped (self-cut with a dagger) hair.

Sezelrian is a Feredir -o roeg a subdivision of Kyonin Rangers known for their intelligence and implacability. He was trained by his father, who named him after an Orcish deity of fire and vengeance after orcs had killed his elder siblings. Trained since birth to hunt down and extract information from orcs, men, and other dangerous creatures, Sezelrian never had what passes for a normal childhood even in Kyonin. Because of this, he is awkward in most areas other than his chosen profession. He pretends not to care, but this does bother him. He left his village when he’d “eliminated all prey” in the area, deciding Belkzen could use his unique set of skills.

Ambitions:
To achieve high rank in some military structure
To get better at making friends. Well, actually, to have friends at all would be nice.
To learn a set of morals outside of the breadth of his training (i.e. to become good or evil instead of True Neutral--I see alignments as helpful mostly in planning/executing character arcs)
Avenge his siblings
Find orcs that aren’t awful

Personality Traits:
Quiet observer
Socially awkward and anxious
Has difficulty opening up
Weird, dark sense of humor, rarely shared
No nonsense on the job

Reasons to Fight in Belkzen
That’s all he thinks he’s good at
No more orcs back home
Curious about other cultures
Romanticizes humanity

Secrets
Secret he knows: he desperately desires more full relationships but has no idea how to go about getting them.
Secret he doesn’t know: one sister survived, and has been in captivity

Scarab Sages

Neither SoP or SoM would require the GM to change anything--one character could use the system and not have a problem playing the game with everyone else.

For what it's worth, I'd really love to create a SoM character and try it out.

Dotting for interest.

I figure any special ops squad needs a scout/Intel officer, so I'll put together either an unchained rogue or investigator, probably a fey-creature template human.

I will have my Dragon character submitted tonight.

He will work as an aerial scout, bruiser and eventual "pilot".

Benefits in having multiple skilled scouts.
<-- Also aerial scout. ^^.

I can see a few similarities between Alma and Sezelrian.

I might switch out diplomacy for something else, disguise maybe.

Undead usually get smited by holy warriors...

Spheres is really good. Spheres of Power basically allows a Caster to go much longer, with the ability to throw blasts or minor spells all day long, but to do stronger stuff you need to spend points. While you can replicate most of the best powers from Paizo, and sometimes quite early, they're generally much weaker than the Paizo version.

Spheres of Might is good for Martials who don't want to simply full attack every turn. Most of the Spheres of Might abilities don't stack with full attacks, and so you can get a little more for a standard action than normal, but mostly it just opens up a lot of cool options. Most Spheres require you expend Martial focus for anything super powerful.

I've used both and neither is game breaking. The rules are pretty simple and easy to learn, and the resources are easily and publically available from This lovely website, although naturally if folks like the rules please do buy them, the studio that does them is pretty cool.

...interestingly the website also contains more templates at the bottom, for those of you still looking for something fun.

Yeah, he'd be fascinated by this spirit-woman.

Thanks everyone. With that astounding praise, both Spheres of Power and Might are available.

Excellllennnt...

I have a question about the cleric archetype Elder Mythos Cultist. It trades out wisdom for charisma for every class feature and changes channeling to damage basically anything corporeal, among other interesting things. It has a lot of restrictions however, including the list of available deities, basically Cthulhu and other Great Old Ones.

I was hoping since the list basically limits you to RPing a crazy person (who else would worship a god who literally wants to destroy the world?) I could switch in a more normal god. Another limit on the archetype is that only certain domains are available, one of which is Chaos. I was thinking I could switch in Gorum as my god, since he has Chaos as a possible domain and is chaotic neutral, one of the required alignments for the archetype. It would still limit me to only that single domain but I wouldn't have to go around muttering to myself the whole time. I'd still be a little battle-crazy, but that's better than actual-crazy. :)

I intend to go cleric -> Holy Vindicator, so the charisma focus and channeling damage would be very helpful. If you're not ok with changing it to Gorum I can still go with Hastur, which is (I suppose) the least crazy option of the Old Ones.

Lekkric I would allow that with Gorum, Desna, Calistra, Malani or Hanspur.

You're basically just changing the fluff a bit to better suit the campaign and still use that class archetype right?

Yes, that's right. The favored weapon or any other mechanical changes to the god won't matter because I'm not using it anyway. It's purely a change so my character isn't like one of those "Doom is Nigh!" people. :)

Thanks.

Eh, b!~~%@~s to it on second thought. It's a really cool sounding idea but after two days of thinking about it, it would probably start to chafe a bit after a while.

Now that Spheres is open however, this is gonna be plenty fun!

This is Lekkric's entry. A battle cleric that's heading into the Holy Vindicator prestige class. Everything is in the alias, but here's the fluff for ease of access.

The background is very short and choppy because I wrote it in point form and then got tired during the process of filling it out and putting it in prose. It's late, I'll polish it tomorrow. :)

Background:

Odoacer grew up in Brevoy, as the most recent in a long line of priests of Gorum. His 3 older brothers, all clerics of Gorum, had always looked down on him because he was small for his age; He had a late growth spurt and became the best fighter of all his siblings, and gained the self-confidence that goes with it. He wants to make his mark and impress his superiors in the church of Gorum, making a name for himself in the war against the orcs should do the trick. He has just arrived in Korvosa, and has already made a few friends and a few enemies.

Think up at least 2 goals for the character. These are the things the character or you, the player want to see happen.

1. Start/expand the worship of Gorum in Korvosa. Create a congregation that his family back in Brevoy would be proud of.
2. Become a magistrate, war leader or other person of power in his new city. “Become someone”, as it were.

Secrets:

1. One of the reasons he left Brevoy was that he was starting to get serious with his girlfriend Marissa Lenai and didn’t want to become tied down; he know he was destined for great things and wasn’t ready to become a husband.
2. He doesn’t know it, but he has a son by Marissa, who got pregnant just before he left.

Appearance and Personality:

Aram is almost never seen without his suit of armor; as befits a cleric of Gorum he wears spiked plate, burnished to a blinding gleam. Tall and muscular, he cuts an imposing figure even when out of his armor. He has short black hair and piercing blue eyes, which glare out from above an aquiline nose and strong jaw.

Seemingly stiff and reserved, he is a good ally and a worse enemy. It is not until becoming very familiar with him that one sees his softer side, and realizes that he actually cares very much for the welfare of those around him. Above all, though, is his hunger for battle. As a priest of Gorum, battle is his most divine form of worship. He desires nothing more than to wade in with his weapon and get his hands dirty, and lopping off heads with his fauchard is one of life's great pleasures.

Stick to CR 1 or no template and you wont even have to think about it!

The question a player would ask is "How much xp would I need to attain the next level?" Add ten or twenty percent to that number accordingly.

So if I understand this, a CR +1 template just basically means a 10% penalty in earned experience?

Is the mutant template allowed?

What experience penalty would a spirit like me take?

I thought he said a 10% penalty per CR adjustment over 1. Which will delay until the CR adjusts for things like Celestial.

At least, that's what I remember.

Yes, yet having racial levels, a deathless spirit isn't a template as per usual means.

Hey, I was looking through the templates ...could we use Advanced?

So, pre-game crafting. Is it allowed?

The character I'm building is a blacksmith from Sphere's of might and a large part of the class is based on crafting things.

Hustonj is correct. So mutant is allowed at no penalty. Alma you aren't penalized, you'll just need the xp to get from 3rd to 4th level and then take your first class level etc. Digger, Advanced, Mighty and other base templates aren't allowed because they are essentially stat increases only with no flavor at all and are generally meant entirely for monster modification. I'm generally not a fan of simple templates for players.

Pregame crafting is allowed, show your work on your character sheet for me please!

Thanks to everyone who has submitted so far!

I think that's a good decision. I wasn't going to take a template, and when I looked through them Advanced seemed too much.

Being damn busy, but I swear I'm putting something together. Have a shield tank in mind, using SoM. Will post in with an alias during the weekend, probably.

Oh, man, I need these Xmas holidays like s~@&!

OK, so if I want a character with a CR +1 template then he starts at 2nd level, and a CR +2 template starts at first and gets a 10% penalty to EXP. Is that right?

I am thinking of a lava gnome draconic sorcerer with either the mutant or the half dragon template.

---------------------------------------------------------

About him: He lived in a primitive society of Lava Gnomes underneath a dormant volcano but was always ostracized as a freak. When the volcano erupted and the gnomes had to flee for safety he was blamed for angering the gods and was kicked out.

He made his way to the surface, only to find himself in Belkzen. He was captured and tortured by orcs; they recognized his brass scales as marking him as a creature of good related to metallic dragons.

They tried to make him a slave and fight for the entertainment of the horde, but his magic abilities appeared and he was able to escape. When he reached Lastwall he was treated with some suspicion but he still received the best treatment he had ever known. When the leaders announced the coming crusade he eagerly joined, believing he could avenge himself on the orcs and prove his worth to his new friends at the same time.

A secret (suicide?) squad this diverse sounds like quite a game to me.

With derpdidruid's benefit from crafting, could we potentially have met before deployment?

(Though RP on introductions is fun, imo)

Crafting sort of doubles budget on what can be bought, when it comes to special items.

Nice catch, Peet and Oceanshieldwolf!

What is the stance on taking CR+0 Templates?

Going to withdraw, I have too much on right now. Best of luck to you and your players.

BTW are there any volcanoes in Belkzen canon?

Book 5 of Giant Slayer - Anvil of fire. It has volcanoes.

I hadn't found them for Belkzen itself on the wiki, but there is the Growling Skald area, within the Mindspin Mountains. The mountains are a natural barrier between nations, which border also Belkzen.

@Peet, that's correct about the templates, you've got the concept down.

@Jet18 CR+0 templates will likely be approved, just don't take like 6 of them for no reason. If you like the flavor of one just ask it will likely be approved. You would start with 3 class levels and a template.

@DBH Thanks for the interest! Have fun in future endeavors.

Sovereign Court

So could I take the fiery template?

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/templates/simple-template -fiery-creature-cr-0-or-1

CR0 until lvl5 then CR1. Would let me play an Azer.

http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/bestiary2/azer.html#azer

Will probably change class from being a ranger to being something more fire focused. Like a bloodrager.

Here's the alias for erudite's character. I'm still working out the character sheet, but the background is up there.

ok thanks then, I was mainly asking about the Resolute Creature Template

Liberty's Edge

If you're still looking for players I would be interested in playing. I would be playing a samurai type character using Paladin with several archetypes as my main class and one level dips into both swashbuckler and bloodrager for a more anime-esc feel. As a paladin my alignment would be lawful good but I'm not a huge fan of the judgy paladin achetype so no need to worry about be ruining other peoples plans/fun. I have a digital sheet set up on google docs that I can make some edits to. Pm me for a full background write up and view permissions for the google doc.

(takes 10 for 30 on stealth, to hide from the paladin)

Here's my Character.

Elsmon is a very muscular Dwarven woman, her face is constantly tinted red, light burns from time spent at the forge. Her hair is always tied back in a pony tail and is kept at shoulder length. She has a slightly lazy personality and responds poorly to being ordered around, less the order entails smashing up orcs. Smiths however, where not entitled to combat missions very often, causing Elsmon to become antsy and frustrated.

Elsmon hails from the Hungry mountains north of Lastwall, having spent the last twenty years of her life forging weapons and armor and fighting the Rotten tongue orc tribe that makes home in deep tunnels of the mountain range. Recently she's been shipped too Lastwall as punishment for consistently failing to adequately repair armor and weapons before sending troops into the tunnels. Hearing that Lastwall'd been prepping a group of oddball's, thinking a smith would be a valuable addition to any team.

I'm very interested in playing an Inquisitor in this game, and I feel like it fits the setting to a T. I'll have something up soon since I just got into winter break from Uni. When is the submission deadline?

I can't find a concrete deadline, but as per THIS POST UPTHREAD DM Malleus will make a decision on 5th Jan and start playing on the 6th of Jan.

That somehow makes December go slower, or is that just me?
The anticipation...

:)

Cool, thanks Mr. Wolf.

I'm gonna be moving forward with my Agathion blooded aasimar Inquisitor. Also using that side bar rules for non human aasimar to base him on catfolk heritage so he looks mostly like a lion. No stat changes for that, just heritage and character stuff.

This alias is still WIP, but the fluff is done so you can read it. Will finish with the crunch tonight or tomorrow.

Since you said you have a high chance of allowing Green Ronin things, I took the liberty of adding the Fortune-Blessed Template. Let me know if you disagree on that.

.

This character is almost complete. Will continue to adjust.

I think Sean Gallagher is finished. I forgot to point out that it is my application, but I'm doing it now :P
