Speeding it up a bit:
4D:
Six hammocks hang suspended from the thorns here, crisscrossing along the thorny walls. Two oaks provide shade and shelter from wind and rain. A few clothes hang from the thorny walls. The hammocks and clothes seem simply made.
Near one of the tree trunks is a large, sturdy chest.
Near the other is a smaller chest, whose open lid reveals several scrolls and tomes. Gaps in the walls allow exit to the northwest, north, and northeast.
Darius, you're normal sized again.
Unfortunately, the others will be heard if you stealth and they don't, just making sure you understand this.
Darius Marel |
That's a good point, GM. Probably no reason to stealth right now.
Darius moves over to the chests. Looking at the contents of the smaller chest, he says:
"Can anyone make out what these scrolls are for?"
He takes a look at the larger one, to see if he can find any traps.

Horatius Lartius |
As with the last room Horatius takes up a defensive position near the southern path from the room as his companions search about.
"We should keep moving. The fallen book and chest left open would imply haste or distraction. Either they are in the midsts of a ritual or they are preparing against us. In either case haste of our own would be wise."
Sniffing at the air in anticipation he continues, "If there are any spells or measures you'd like to take it would be best to do so now. We seem to be at the heart of this threat and I think we will not pass the next room without bloodshed."
Darius Marel |
"Yes, you're right Horatius."
Darius stands up and moves near the paladin.
"I haven't got any magic to prepare. Would you like to lead onward? I'll stay close so that we can try to trap our opponents between us."
DM Rickmeister |
All right, I'll assume everyone is ready.
This wide area on the east side of Briar Henge has a roughly circular shape.
Four tall, thin spires of ancient stone thrust up from the ground at irregular intervals like malformed teeth.
To the west, two thicker stones are capped with a third horizontal stone, forming a crude gateway.
A thick piece of charred bark is suspended in this gateway by a web of crackling energy.
The crackling energy pulses outward from the bark into the dolmen stones, and from there into the ground.
There are four Briar Henge druids chanting and circling the stones as a part of their enigmatic ritual, but they break off the ritual long enough to attack you.
The dolmen stones fill their squares almost completely, and creatures can not squeeze into squares occupied by dolmen stones as they can into squares containing menhirs.

Round 1:
One of the druids raises his hand, and throws a miniature fireball towards Horatius.
The fire touches Horatius' cheeck, and the druid laughs as he approaches, quarterstaff at the ready. Just before he stops, he closes his eyes a second, and he grows to twice his size.
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 > 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Will vs Daze: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 2 = 25
The druid has no trouble shaking off the effect, and starts shouting something in a tongue none of you speak.
The other ones are biding their time, waiting for something.
Darius and Horatius, you're up!
DM Rickmeister |
If anyone can find out how many times Kumari did her channel energy today, I'll DM PC her for the remainder.
Darius Marel |
Due to prior healing, we're all at full HP or close, except for Horatius now. I'll update mine on the map, but it's right in my profile.
Darius rushes forward, stabbing at the enlarged druid with his shortsword.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Oh, and I'd better to roll to avoid an AOO if possible, since I guess the enlarged guy has reach.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
DM Rickmeister |
She's back!
Sorry though you were gone, last post 3rd of november. Welcome back, I'll add you to the initiative.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Horatius Lartius |
"Followers of the green you have lost your way and turned from the natural order of things. In Erastils name lay down your arms and submit to the judgement of his laws!"
Assuming no such thing happens...
Fire washes over Horatius's face in reply to his call for surrender. The pain of the burn does nothing to weaken his resolve however. "So be it." the paladin states as an aura of calm descends upon him and he falls into the familiar motions of combat. Focusing on the enlarged druid he channels Erastils divine might to lay him low.
Choosing the enlarged druid as his smite target
Moving as indicated on the map
Cleave first at the enlarged druid and then at #1 if it hits
Attack 1 on Enlarged: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 +2 more if he's evil
Attack 1 Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 2) + 4 = 11 +1 if evil
Attack 2 on #1 if the first hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Attack 2 damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 1) + 4 = 8
If the enlarged is evil AC is +2 against him. After the cleave AC is -2 vs all
HP = 8/14
DM Rickmeister |
Technically these are readied actions that were triggered.
The druids spread out their firey love, as people start turning around the corner and entering the fray.
Ranged Touch Attack vs Darius: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14 > 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Ranged Touch Attack vs Theor(dmpc): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 > 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Darius swoops around the corner, nimbly throws himself to roll closer to the large druid to avoid the swoop from his enlarged quarterstaff. He however feels his shoulder burning slightly as he gets up again. Damned adrenaline, didn't feel the hit when you rounded the corner. He regains his senses and stabs the druid in the upper leg, causing a grievous wound!
Theor looks around, and is greeted with a fiery blast that scorches the wall of green, but misses his face by a few inches. He growls!
Round 2:
Druid 2 will delay, Bayani is up!
@ Kumari's Bless:
For discussion tab: Can BLESS (link) affect those around the corner, since there is no line that can be drawn to them?

Acrobatics to avoid an AoO if possible: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8[ooc]Well, that won't do it... AC is 22, hope that's enough...[/dice]

AOO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Readied atk: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Bayani rushes forward, trying to dodge and weave and avoid the blow. His performance is not that great, but luckily neither is the druids aim. He also manages to use the druid's larger frame to hide from another tiny fireball, avoiding its impact.
Just before the big druid tries to take another swing, Bayani stabs him in the groin, leaving him bleeding. He falls to the ground seconds later.
D2 down
-----------------------
The other druids are howling in anger, and all seem to shift in the same way as the first one. The megaliths are pulsating with energy, small arcs of electricity leaping of them...
D1 > Horatius with cover: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 - 2 = 5
D3 > Darius with cover: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 2 = 11
D4 > Bayani, no cover: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
... and everyone seems to avoid the blows!
Party up!
DM Rickmeister |
Bayani, how is your AC 22? When did you cast shield?
Bayani Nishu |
When we entered the henge. Has it been more than a minute? If so, AC18. Doesn't look like it would have made a difference.

"A burst spell affects whatever it catches in its area, including creatures that you can't see. It can't affect creatures with total cover from its point of origin (in other words, its effects don't extend around corners). The default shape for a burst effect is a sphere, but some burst spells are specifically described as cone shaped. A burst's area defines how far from the point of origin the spell's effect extends."
Because Kumari would know how her spell functions, I moved her on the map to be right behind Theor - like most clerics I've seen and played as I'm assuming she would have moved prior to casting. The only one of us who might have total cover from her is Horatius. Hopefully that works for you guys!
DM Rickmeister |
Actually, the one druid attacked you and hit AC 19, so he hit you before you hit him. But since you made a very nice roll, I'll rule we hit simultaneously.
(Just don't tell the PFS Judges :p)
Dmg on Bayani: 3d6 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6, 5, 5) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 22
Edit: I'm sorry Bayani, but I can't find a fault in my damage dice. :(
> http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/s/shillelagh
As Bayani slides forward and stabs the second druid in the groin, he feels the weight of the giant magical club crush his backbone. The life seeps from his eyes at the same time as the giant druid starts shrinking again, coughing up blood and his face smashing against the muddy floor.
Darius Marel |
Bayani Nishu |
Well, Crap. That would be 3 more HP than Bayani can take. Um. Nice playing with you guys.

And yes, the first druid to do this was druid number 2, who was sliced and diced by Bayani.
Different note:
Be careful that you cannot claim experience twice in PFS, if I recall it correctly.
The dice gods were against you it would seem.

No worries though, although I feel bad about Bayani. Shillelagh is not a bad spell, have to admit.
Well, so far 50% down. Let's see where this ends up. Hope I don't have to bury Horatius, we go way back :(
Horatius Lartius |
Stepping between the fallen elf and the enlarged druids Horatius strikes out again at the foes around him.
Five foot step SE
Attack against D3: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 6) + 4 = 14
Cleave to D4 (who would have some cover) if prior hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 4) + 4 = 9
sigh
HP = 8/14, AC 13 for this round
DM Rickmeister |
Kumari, you're up!!
And holy crap Horatius, double one! :(
DM Rickmeister |
Technically you can't 5FS onto a corpse, as it becomes difficult terrain, but I'll let it go since you double-oned :p
Theor against number 3: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 = 13
> 1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9
Theor snaps out of his growling, draws his weapon and strikes at the heart of the enlarged druid. The blood gushes out, and he fals to his knees, shrinking and pleading in some strange language
Meanwhile, the druids try to press the attack, but seeing their comrades fall does not aid their resolution as much as their fear.
D1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
D2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
PARTY UP!
Darius Marel |
Darius runs forward and drops into a roll, hoping to duck any attack made by druid #4 as he fights for position.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
He then stabs at the druid from behind!
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Way out of my usual posting times, but acid reflux woke me up and won't let me get back to sleep ;p
Horatius Lartius |
Trying to follow up on Darius's attack Horatius strikes out again.
Attack D4: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 5) + 4 = 11
The enlarged druid manages to twist away again however.

Horatius, don't forget the flanking bonus, and the bless bonus :)
> Sneak attack damage dice: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Meanwhile, the druids try to press the attack, but they fail miserably.
D1 vs Theor: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
D2 vs Darius: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
PARTY UP!
Darius Marel |
Thanks GM, I wasn't sure if I was in a flank or not (enlarged size threw me off).
Darius takes another stab, still trying to bring down the druid he's gotten behind.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 = 10
Kumari Azar |
Man, since the druid exploded on Bayani, dice have been terrible all around.
Kumari casts another firebolt at 4
Attack v Touch: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 1 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Thanks GM :)
Horatius does his best to time next strike to correspond to Darius's own the paladin attacks.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 1 + 2 = 26
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 5) + 4 = 11
