Horatius was born on a small farmstead on the Northwestern border of Southern Fangwood. There he grew strong tending his families fields and animals. Life here was good for the most part, hard work paying off with ample food. When his chores permitted it Horatius enjoyed spending time at the nearby shrine to Erastil. A simple shrine located just within the wood it was maintained by a cleric of the faith who took the boy under his wing and taught him Erastils tenants. Overtime a deep faith took hold within the young man however the clerics calling was not his own. Instead Horatius was drawn to Erastils role as the guardian at the edge of the wood. Horatius saw both the deities love of nature and the power he gave to man to defend himself, his family and his community from natures wrath. This view was only deepened as he witnessed the darkening of Fangwood.
When he came of age Horatius, with his fathers blessing, left the farm and swore himself mind, body and soul to Erastil. He would become the guardian at the edge of the forest. Protecting the wood from the evils of man and man from the chaos of the forest. For many years he faithfully served his god and community in this role and might still be there today if not for a chance meeting.
One day while patrolling the woodlands near a small village Horatius happened upon a small band of adventurers he would later discover were Pathfinders. Finding them to be goodly folk Horatius guided them to the nearby village and spent the evening in their company. Among them he met a fellow Paladin, Titus Aquilinus, a faithful of Iomedae. Though of different faiths they none the less bonded quickly and spoke long into the night. Titus told him of the Silver Crusade and their efforts to use the knowledge and resources of the Pathfinders to better the lot of all those on Golarion.
The Pathfinders moved on the next day but Tituses words stuck with Horatius. After much meditation and prayer he came to believe that his path now lead him away from home to the isle city of Absalom.
