Climb status:
Healaugh - stuck halfway - one more Athletics check
Macmoor - success
Ddraig - stuck halfway - one more Athletics check
Ghadmyr - 2 Athletics checks needed.
Ynyr - 2 Athletics checks needed
Male Halfling Bard 4
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Athletics check.
The halfling finally remember muscle coordination and scrambles up the crater.
"Simple enough when tha gets hang of it."
He will stand by with a healing sing song once we're all out.
Male Elf Druid 4
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Ghadmyr seems unable to make any progress. Any chance someone may be unable to assist him?
Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4
OK - once more with feeling ...
Athletics: 1d20+2 = 18+2 = 20
Right - we avoid further craters!
Ddraig, having finally climbed out, throws a rope down to Ghadmyr, and ties the other end firmly round a tree-trunk.
Male Halfling Bard 4
Healaugh tries to help pull Ghadmyr out of the crater, hauling gamely on the ropes. The elf is surprisingly heavy.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Aid another to add to the general fail ...
M Human Barbarian 4
Macmorr drops a rope, after helpfully putting a few knots in it.
Male Halfling Bard 4
"If'n that don't work, can always make sling for him," muses Healaugh.
M Human Barbarian 4
"Perhaps I should cut down a tree and make a ladder?"
Male Halfling Bard 4
"Don't reckon he'd approve. Seemingly he likes identifying trees when they're upright."
Ghadmyr takes 1d10 ⇒ 2 Falling damage.
Male Elf Druid 4
Ghadmyr ties the end of the rope around himself and begins to climb back up.
I don't know what DC I need. At this point, I've got the rope tied around me, people are pulling, and it's been knotted to aid in climbing. If this doesn't work, Ghadmyr may wind up starving to death in the crater.
Athletics? 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4
Ddraig, seeing Ghadmyr's plight, (and feeling for him desperately!) pulls on the rope to help Ghadmyr out of the crater:
Strength Check: 1d20+6 = 20+6 = 26
Possibly a waste of a crit, but never mind - hopefully Ghadmyr's out!
It's DC15 Athletics check, just as for climbing into the crater. Anyone who aids another successfully adds 2 to your roll. If you fail by 5 or more, you fall. You need to make 2 successful checks to climb out. I'll count Ddraig's check as an Aid, so you need another member of the party to aid as well to make the first check.
Male Halfling Bard 4
1d20 ⇒ 6 - aid another to get Ghadmyr out.
Healaugh reckons Macmorr may have better luck.
"Have tha out in no time, Ghadmyr lad," he lies.
M Human Barbarian 4
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29.
"Here, grip it between your legs and pull yourself up. No, not like that, more like... Yes, that's right. Up you come."
Ghadmyr is now halfway up and needs to make another Athletics check.
Healaugh's effort counts for nothing, but Macmoor is able to make a difference.
Male Halfling Bard 4
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 - yet another aid another attempt.
"Reet. Now I sees way of it."
M Human Barbarian 4
"Come on - just one more push and you are up!"
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
This is brilliant - who would have though a hole in the ground could have generated so much comic potential?
Male Halfling Bard 4
It does remind me of a sequence in our original adventure when we had to creep stealthily up to a manor house on a not very high DC and one and all flubbed. I think we managed to roll just about every variant on rubbish the dice had to offer.
It's a pretty big hole. :D So, Ghadmyr has +4 now to his next Athletics check.
Male Elf Druid 4
Here goes nothing. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Edit: Right.
Do I keep the aid another bonuses when I roll another check?
Ghadmyr of the Fallen Leaf is now known as "Ghadmyr I've Fallen and I Can't Get Up".
Edit: Here's another check, just in case 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19.
:D Good thing Healaugh isn't a nasty bard, otherwise we could have the Ballad of Ghadmyr the Falling Druid. You made it with the second check.
We still need 2 Athletics checks from Ynyr. Look, see, are you with us, you know, boyo?
Ynyr, do we still have you in the game? It would be a shame to lose you.
Probably human Bard/5, (tech)wizard/9
My apologies for this prolonged no-show. My problem is really that I am no longer finding inspiration in Ynyr. I like him very much, but he has become difficult to role play - particularly given the fact that I find artificers uninspiring as a class.
Let me catch up and post my moves and, hopefully, the inspiration will return to me.
Male Human Atrificer/3
Ynyr has been following along more or less in a dream - thinking of the love he has yet to win. Coming to his senses he realises that he needs to get out of this crater. Seeing a rope, he attempts to climb it.
Two athletics checks: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 111d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
With a modicum of success...
"Now why did I want to come down here, in this pit, sort of?"
If 2 people can aid with the first check, you're out.
The rest of the group watch as their distracted arcanist attempts to make his way out of the crater...
Male Halfling Bard 4
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 - aid another Athletics.
"Up tha comes Ynyr. Top of cliff's this way."
Male Elf Druid 4
Ghadmyr joins in the effort, although he's dubious his assistance will amount to much.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Edit: Well what do you know...
With the aid of Healaugh and Ghadmyr, Ynyr lurches back to the top. The trail continues through the woods to the east. It is now mid-afternoon.
Male Elf Druid 4
Ghadmyr takes a few minutes (actually, exactly five...) to rest, having thoroughly exerted himself, not to mention injured himself, climbing down into the crater.
Spending a healing surge. I have too few hit points to be walking around down 10.
Rested, Ghadmyr addresses the group, "I say we continue on while daylight holds."
Male Halfling Bard 4
"Funny thing, this boar being so hard to find. Reet odd, think on. Big beast like that just vanishing."
Healaugh muses aloud as he follows Ghadmyr down the trail.
Healaugh doesn't do woods, does he?
M Human Barbarian 4
Doesn't seem Ghadmyr does either.
Male Elf Druid 4
Macmorr wrote: Doesn't seem Ghadmyr does either. You think you're so funny.
Ghadmyr continues along the trail, looking for signs of the boar, or anything else particularly noteworthy.
Perception 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21, Nature 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
Male Human Atrificer/3
Ynyr thanks his friends for helping him out and promises to pay attention to where he is stepping in the future...
"Now where is it did you say were were on our way to go to?"
The group travels north-east for about 250 feet before coming to a fork in the trail. One way leads north west and the other leads east .
Ghadmyr notices what seems to be signs of bear activity in the area to the northwest - claw marks on trees and spoor, but the claws seem much bigger and sharper than usual.
Male Halfling Bard 4
"Ynyr-lad, likely you missed this, but we're hunting huge white pig. Magical-like, seemingly."
He looks at the tracks to the north-west.
"Don't know as I recall boars having claws before, but happen I'm wrong. How's about that way?"
He points to the east.
Male Elf Druid 4
"They are the marks of bear claws, Master Healaugh, but they look to be a rather powerful variety. I don't suspect that they would have anything to do with our boar, though, so I'm inclined to agree that the eastern trail looks more promising."
>>>>MAP<<<<
[ooc]So, east, is it?
Male Halfling Bard 4
Yes, unless anyone has a passionate desire to play with the large-clawed bears.
Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4
Well, whilst I've always liked wildlife, perhaps on this occasion avoiding the cuddly bears might be a good idea!
M Human Barbarian 4
The group make their way east, following the trail, which broadens out into a well-used trackpath, until they can see what appears to be a wooden bridge over a river in the distance. The river has been dammed to the north of the bridge, it seems.
M Human Barbarian 4
Perception = 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Anyone around?
Male Halfling Bard 4
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 - nature
Healaugh peers around the clearing. He sees very little.
Healaugh wrote: 1d20+9 - nature

The halfling knows... well, it's nowt t' do wi' haddock.
Male Elf Druid 4
Ghadmyr looks around at the river, the dam, and the surroundings. Perception 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33, Nature 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32. Does the dam resemble anything naturally occurring, like a beaver dam, or does it appear that sentient beings placed it there? Anything else in the area?
Edit: Wow. I hope I don't need those rolls later...
Male Elf Druid 4
Ghadmyr speaks quietly to his companions. "That's no beaver dam, gentlemen, and we are not alone. There on the south side of the bridge, something is watching us. We ought to approach very carefully."
Ghadmyr starts moving toward the bridge to get a closer look, totem in hand, with a stance reminiscent of an animal ready to pounce.
