Just spent 3 hours writing the background for my Haunted Vampiric Spirit Guide Oracle and when I finally try to post, the internet eats it. Gods! and I just finish writing how he ate his first Mitra Cleric.

Let me try this again later.

Use word... then copy paste. Lesson learned ;)

Always do a full ctrl+c before making that real post or even preview if you got a wall of text :).

This is rashly5's application.

Also, may I recommend to you folks the Lazarus browser extension to auto-save your forms for cases such as these.

Johann Gray:

Name: Johann Gray
Race: Human
Class: Wizard (Infernal Binder School), future Diabolist
Ability Scores: STR:8 | DEX:14 | CON:12 | INT:20 | WIS:12 | CHA:16 (after racial and age adjustments)
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Crime: Consorting with the Dark Powers

Physical Description

A man in his fifties with graying black hair and a full beard. His face is pockmarked with age and a hard life. Years of painting are reflected in his posture, which has no slouch, and his nimble fingers. His black eyes are constantly judging, considering everything he sees. He is not physically imposing but instead recalls both the affability of old men and their stern authority.

Personality

Johann is a charming talker that tries to shock conventional notions of truth with his brilliant mind. His pursuit of power and subsequent realisation of the vanity of things has led to a hedonistic motivation of having as many experiences as possible. This makes him easily bored with things he has already encountered, such as conventional beauty, and instead seeks the unusual and different.

Backstory

There was a son. His name was Johann Gray and he was born to minor nobility. His teachers praised his keen mind and noted his particular excellence in philosophy and rhetoric. He could have been a lawyer, a doctor, something respectable. Instead, to his parents' disappointment, he said he wished to be a painter.

There was a painter. His name was Johann Gray and he enjoyed moderate success. He made portraits and depictions of lush landscapes or religious scenes because they were what sold. They were called beautiful, but Johann did wonder that it was easy to find beauty in beautiful things and that often they only were meant to be beautiful. So for himself, he cultivated paintings which meant more than simple beauty. He painted rotting corpses, wilting flowers, and the death of innocents. He painted beggars poisoned in the streets, the suffering of the mad and the crippled, and sex in its vulgar state. He was content with his art and pondered these questions with fellow artists when a rival called the attention of the Church upon him. He was charged with heresy and his paintings presented as evidence of the corruption of his soul. He was not executed, for his family and fellow artists pleaded his case, but he was imprisoned. He was disgraced and his paintings would never sell again. Despair, he felt, watching his paintings burn in a heap as he was taken away.

There was a man. His name was Johann Gray and he thought of revenge. But he had just been released from prison and he could do little to pursue his goal; he did not have physical strength nor political influence and what money he inherited from his now-dead parents was too meager to have any real sway. So for the next decade, he directed his mind into the arcane studies and made himself the heretic he was branded as. His body felt the slow decay of age even as he researched and he sought quicker ways to power before finally deciding the contracts of Hell were worth their price. He was ready.

There was a man. His name is unimportant but it was he that sent Johann Gray to suffer in prison. It had been two decades since he saw Johann last so he did not recognise the man standing next to his bed with a devil until Johann told him. For the past few years, this man had been stricken with a disease and had laid in bed slowly dying. Johann looked at him, expression inscrutable in the darkness, and then left. He was already suffering. What was the point? So this man watched Johann leave and in the morning said to his servant to call the Church.

There is a prisoner. His name is Johann Gray and he is sentenced to Branderscar. The thought that the man who sent him here would soon die anyway is no consolation. He had forgotten the search for beauty in his search for revenge when he could have combined the two. He would not forget again. He saw with new eyes even as he knew he was to die. He thinks of the sins he did not have the courage to commit, the murder he hesitated on. Ah, if he only had the opportunity again.

P.S. Oh, hello, Calinthas! Great to see you too. :D

Alright, got my application finished; the background is here, and all other character details can be found on this tab.

Zoé Harman

Physical Description:
Reference Image

Zoé is a moderately tall young woman, possessing long raven black hair, pale alabaster skin and dark blue eyes. Though not physically strong, she is nevertheless well conditioned and athletically able.

Without question, Zoé is woman of unquestionable allure, though it is a sullen, dark and mysterious beauty she possesses. Her expression is generally demure and rueful, but such coyness is merely an affectation that hides an extremely confident, brilliant and strong personality.

In better times, Zoé preferred flowing and luxurious robes of red velvet. The color suited her well, and was also a common color of choice among those of her religious affiliation. She typically adorned herself with tasteful silver jewelry, and only a minimal amount of makeup that compliments her beauty.

Physical Attribute
Height: 5'9
Weight: 118 lbs
Hair: Raven
Eyes: Dark Blue

Personality:
First impressions of Zoé can be somewhat cool, though the reality is that Zoé is merely just cautious with people she has never met. Allies would describe her as affable though somewhat cynical and occasionally cruel with her wit. Zoé is capable of being extremely outgoing and magnetic when it suits her, which is often when she displays her dark, somewhat morose sense of humor.

More likely though, people would simply agree that Zoé is a woman possessing an exceptional mind. Ever since a young age, Zoé showed signs of brilliance, mastering numerous languages and showing an affinity for her studies. Eventually she turned her attention towards the law, a field of study which suits her logical and legalistic mind well.

Background:
Zoé is the younger of two children born to Lord Rémi and Lady Clarisse Harman, an aristocratic family traditionally loyal to House Barca and worshippers of Asmodeus. While the Victor and his descendants now ruled in Talingarde, they had struck a conciliatory note with allies of the Barca in order to ensure peace; this agreement allowed the Harman to retain their wealth and privilege, albeit at the cost of their influence and renunciation of their allegiance to the Dark Prince. While outwardly accepting and supportive of the devout Mitran regime of the Markadian, the Harman family has always harbored sympathies for a return of the Barca, and has even secretly plotted against the Markadian whenever the opportunity has presented itself as it did under during the great purges of Markadian IV.

Being born to the wealthy elite in Glastenhall, Zoé and her older brother Damian were raised with luxury and privilege. As such, Zoé was given many opportunities that many could only dream of, and due to her keen intellect and an affinity for her scholastic studies, she excelled at all of her pursuits. While her brother picked up the sword and trained in the art of war, Zoé went to college and trained as a barrister and a diplomat, using language and the law as her weapon of choice. Eventually she joined the bar and accompanied her father to the court of Markadian V. It was at this time she learned of the dark past of her family, her father revealing the true nature of the Harman allegiance to Asmodeus. Never a fan of the Markadians, both Zoé and Damian took to secretly worshiping the Dark Prince as their forebears had, and joined their father in covertly working against the rule of Markadian V.

Working within the royal court by day, Zoé and her her brother joined secretly plotted with fellow Asmodeans and those simply fed up with the Markadian to bring back the Barca. Their seditious operations grew in scale and ambition, starting out with simple raids on tax collectors but growing eventually to outright attacks on government institutions and the Markadian family itself. It was during a particularly ambitious plan to do away with the entire royal court with an explosion that Zoé and her fellow conspirators were finally discovered. The trial lasted less than a day; Zoé was deemed a traitor and heretic, and was sentenced to die alongside her brother as well as numerous other conspirators. In order to save the family fortune, her parents disowned them in public, and re-affirmed their allegiance to Markadian while claiming no knowledge of their children’s treachery. While upset, Zoé understood why her parents did what they had to, though her brother was less forgiving. Both siblings were sent to different prisons before their sentence would be carried out; presently Zoé is wasting away in Brandescar awaiting her fate.

I'd like to throw Sibylla's hat into the ring. Background below (and in profile).

Spoiler:

History
Sibylla was orphaned at a young age when her parents, heroes both, were slain as part of the crusade against the Church of Asmodeus. Later elevated as holy martyrs in Markadian IV’s crusade, Sibylla has no memory of them. Taken in by the Church of Mitra as an infant, and rumored to have been blessed by an angel because of parent’s heroic sacrifice, much was expected of the young girl, but little was required. She grew up lonely, bitter, and misunderstanding of the high expectations others had of her. She was separate, different, and even her caretakers found her less a daughter and more a symbol.

As she grew into her teen years her feelings turned increasingly poisonous, to a slow hatred of the Church and King both – they had taken from her any semblance of a normal life, robbed her of her childhood, and now seemingly demanded that she devote her life to their ideals. She resolved that her fate would be her own, and though she followed in her mother’s footsteps studying arcane magic, did so as a means of unchaining herself from the Church rather than aiding it. Eager to provide for her, the blessed child of martyrs, few questions were asked so long as she maintained a facade of piety and goodliness.

It was during her studies that she met Father Victor Morgan, a priest of the Prince of Darkness hiding among the Mitrian clergy, and there her path changed. Rather than allow Sibylla to slide away from the light and into gray area between, Morgan pulled the teen headlong into the heart of darkness. Befriending her and learning of her disenfranchisement, Morgan saw an opportunity to secure a coup for his lord, to plant a dark seed in poisoned fields. Slowly, very slowly, he introduced her to Hellish theology. She proved a receptive student, half eager to rebel against the Church of Mitra and half eager for the discipline Morgan increasingly provided to his dark disciple.

By the time she left her studies and journeyed to make her way in the world Sibylla was not simply a wizard, but also an ordained priestess of the Lord of Hell. Sibylla spent almost two years perfecting her craft before everything came crashing down. Morgan’s allegiances were discovered, and under the question he gave up not only Sibylla, but many others. Apprehended by Sir Balin Sibylla now awaits her death in Branderscar – a heretics death. Sibylla however has no intention of facing that end quietly…

Personality
Sibylla has, since her childhood, worn two faces. In public she has played the part of the innocent student, a reserved and fulfilled woman with few desires and an easy demeanor. Even after her indoctrination into the faith she continued to play her role, deflecting all suspicion. This public face is quiet, shy even, and very cautious. Though talented, she downplays any achievements. She is seemingly without pride or sin.

In private, she is quite different. In truth Sibylla is a tremendously ambitious young woman with a taste for all things forbidden. She seeks power, power enough that she can write her own destiny. In the pursuit of that power she is rigidly organized and calculating, preferring to plan far in advance rather than react to events. Her delight in forbidden acts, powers, and ideas manifests itself in an adventurous streak with cuisine and… other matters.

She secretly takes delight in masquerading as a paragon of virtue, and takes even more delight in reveling in the horror when others learn her true nature. When apprehended by Sir Balin rumor tells that she roared with laughter while she was led away before disbelieving eyes. In that way she delights in embracing the trickster aspect of her god – and make no mistake Sibylla holds Asmodeus as her one true god.

The Father Below exemplifies those ideas she has grown to embrace. Discipline, firmness, and self-interest are ideas she has built her life around. She does not offer forgiveness, only penance. She does not believe in altruism, only investment. She views, in many ways, the ideology of the Prince of Darkness as having liberated her and opened her eyes to the truth of the world.

Man, there are a lot of good submissions here, very cool.

Also, thanks for making that list Calinthas Aldimay, very helpful.

Grand Lodge

No problem Yuugasa; I had time to kill yesterday morning, and I always find that these lists help perspective players new to a particularly long recruitment thread (this one in on four pages now).

Looks like things have slowed down. Bumping it back up and also mentioning that Tsadok here is ready.

Thinking Yuugasa can close the recruitment early if he likes. Plenty of characters made and not sure more will come around. I believe everyone who showed interest made their characters.

Just want to check in because it's been a while. I was hoping to have my character posted but decided to rewrite him entirely after I developed his backstory, so it's taking me some extra time.

I'll be back with a stat block and back story by tomorrow (Friday Dec 12).

The character's name is Varmint, a NE Half-Orc Barbarian (Hateful Rager) with a criminal background rooted in Branderscar.

Just trying to finalize stats. Do you mind if I post them to a (linked) google doc?

Sorry for the delay folks, this is the first time I've even been able to access Paizo in a long minute and I am having a difficult time getting my posts to stick, not sure what is wrong, the rest of my internets seem to work fine.

There's a large storm near the Paizo offices so they're having intermittent issues. That's probably why you're seeing issues.

Oh yep, just saw the warning at the top of the main page, makes sense.

You wanna give us a little hint at who you're looking at so far? :)

I'll wait for Brooklyn85 to finish up then we will move forward.

Oh, didn't see he was still working.
Sorry!

Go ahead. However if you are selected I would want you to move your stats over to your profile eventually.

It's all good, and we will move forward soon.

Shadow Lodge

I know this is a little late, but I would like to toss in a submission.

Yzera - female Slayer, possibly dipping one level of Warpriest, and then going the Crimson/Mantis Assassin route. She will be a cheerful dual wielding sawtooth sabre addition to any party.

Role is mostly melee with decent skills and some magic at later levels.

Yzera was in another short lived campaign, but will be updated if selected and leveled to level 3.

Background and most details are in the profile.

Oh yeah, I am familiar with Yzera. I was recruited into that campaign...

...with this character right before the DM bailed. =D

Shadow Lodge

Missed that you wanted links to non-Core stuff.

Yzera is a Slayer from the Advanced Class Guide.

Also, my intention would be to take the Ranger combat style feats that related to Achaekek. Or, I would assume that the list under Ranger that relate to Sawtooth Sabre are tied to Achaekek. For Yzera, this is more of a style that she has practiced for years, than a religious affiliation, but fits with her build and future.

I remember that recruitment somewhat....

I PM'd the GM about my character and since the word Summoner was included I was basically told don't bother.

I have the same application in this game now.

I'd like to submit Dagmaer for consideration.

He's a druid that has worked as a woodcutter for the last several years since losing his family in a fire.

When the fire took his house and family the roof collapsed on him, scarring his face terribly and putting out his left eye.

These terrible wounds and his ragged, unkempt hair make him fairly uncivilized looking.

He's not very bright or likable. Because he's not very smart, he's often manipulated by others.

Three months ago he drank himself stupid in a bar and passed out. When he woke up he was covered in blood and chained up in prison. He had gotten angry after he blacked out, shifted, and tore the throats out of several other patrons.

My concept with Dagmaer is to build him into a melee focused shapechanger who only uses his natural weapons and wildshapes into bear form. I'm basing him at least partly on the character Ursiel from the Dresden Files book Death Masks. I plan on taking him to 6th level to get wildshape from the bear shaman archetype and planar wildshape to become a fiendish dire bear, and then multiclassing into a martial class to focus on getting better at clawing people's faces off.

Yup, they are also listed on the side of the d20 site's Ranger page. Only difference is that they are not listed with the deity's name on the d20 site. Because of copyright issues I believe.

Took a look at your character. Few things to mention.

1. You have Exotic Weapon Proficiency (GM Bonus) What's that mean?
2. Nemesis? What's that? Why is it (Campaign Bonus)?
3. We start at Level 3, as per the first posts' character creation rules. Might wanna go read them, if you didn't?
4. We actually don't get any gear; we start in prison.

Edit- I get the Red Mantis route now. Didn't see that your father was/might have been one.

Sorry if I sound rude, just trying to help!

Shadow Lodge

I know that I need to clean up the character sheet. If necessary, she will have to pick up the Exotic Weapon Proficiency another way. The Nemesis was a requirement for the last campaign that I submitted her for. If the DM does not want it, it will be dropped. The equipment is also from the last game, pretty easy to dump if selected.

Ahh, okay. Just offering a friendly hand.

As friendly as Valignatir can be, that is.

Yep, I was the one recruited to be the replacement player after someone left but almost immediately after I entered the game the DM closed the game down, lol.

I am ok with Yzera's material since I already knew it from the other game. Nemesis is fine as well.

Welcome JoshB

Thanks for the welcome Yuugasa.

I hope you like Dagmaer. I'm wanting to try playing a thug/goon. I seem to oftentimes end up in a leader/smart guy slot in a group and it would be a good change to try playing the opposite.

Every supervillain team needs a big strong thug type after all.

I may fiddle a little bit with Dagmaer today. I'm trying to think of ways to emphasize the bestial aspects at this low level. (maybe figuring out a way for him to get scent so he can track by smell)

Sibylla's character page has been updated with all fluff and full stats. Decided to not go with the Google doc.

Throwing my hat in the ring. A Bladebound Hexcrafter Magus, Aspiring Order of the First Sword member, Elf.

I will work on a backstory, I had one at one point, but it seems to have been deleted.

Man, I am truly blessed with a lot of good players to choose from, this selection will be difficult.

This should be interesting no matter who gets picked. May the best characters win!

I am finishing up now.
Final submission with hexes and spells etc. to come tonight.
Good luck to all thoose more than happy to be evil!

Hello! Here are stats and backstory for my character, Varmint.

Looking forward to seeing who gets picked! Thanks for running this Yuugasa!

*EDIT: Made an adjustment to my skills, and favored class bonus. I forgot about the generous +2 ranks/level granted by the GM! Thanks.

Background:

Varmint’s not a natural born killer. He was brought up to be one. Viewed as an atrocity and orphaned by his human mother, the baby half-orc fell victim to the underground slave trade. As a youth he was smuggled from the mainland and traded to a discreet thieves circle operating out of Branderscar. Known only as “The Snatchers” this clandestine group had a simple reputation; they take what they want. The Snatchers dubbed him “Varmint”, a simple degrading nick-name which eventually stuck. Among them he was raised as a pet and trained like a dog for one purpose, to kill.

Life as the snatcher’s dog was hard and awarded little comfort. Varmint was kept in a cage and ruthlessly tortured at the whim of the gang to galvanize him and fuel his rage. This negative reinforcement worked wonders, and within a few short years these thieves had a beast on their hands whom would kill anything within his grasp. They started bringing him on missions, leashing him and sicking him on anyone whom stood in their way. His victims were brutally savaged, and he seldom left a recognizable corpse.

He learned that a life of crime was the one and only true way of life. The “lawful good” society of Talingarde was made of cheaters who found some way to beat the system. If you wanted something, you had to be strong enough to take it. All around him he saw weak and petty humans who deserved the punishment The Snatchers unleashed upon them. He even began to respect his captors, for having the strength necessary to keep him in chains. Though he grew bitter and resentful he lacked the strength to take back his freedom and his life. He found his only joy in the kill, in the rare moments he was unleashed long enough to draw blood.

One night is all it takes to change one’s world. One moment even. A new cage awaited Varmint the faithful night a high profile bounty went terribly awry. The Snatchers made a fatal flaw and accepted a bounty far beyond their expertise. The target was a Duchess from the countryside and her collection of rare magical-tools she acquired from her late uncle, a high ranking Cleric of Mitra. A day and two nights of scouting in combination with their combined intel revealed this to be a simple, basic, snatch and grab job.
What they didn’t know was that the Duchess was to receive a rare visit from The Princess Belinda, and that security protocols on her manor grounds had been tripled over night. The Snatchers were caught moments after their infiltration and were mostly slaughtered by the Royal Guard. Varmint lost total control, and flew into a wild rage. Things went from bad to worse when the Princess herself was nearly caught in his crossfire. A few lucky ones escaped. Varmint survived. He alone was made to answer for the crime of High Treason against the crown for the attempted murder of the princess. Now he sits alone in his cell, awaiting his beheading, seething in rage. Thirstier than ever, for blood.

So, after a few hours of re-reveiwing and thinking, I'm sure now I want the following characters:

Grip Riddleshot
Angelic Isley
Zoe Harman
Varmint
Imogene Bainesworth
Doctor Yanev
Annabelle Emberspark
Sibylla Noriha
Johann Grey

And there are several more characters I would really like but I don't think I can handle that many characters.

These are my final choices, thanks to everyone who applied, if I thought I could handle 10+ players I definitely would have chosen a half dozen more of you.
