The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Just need word York and Thomas. If they haven't posted by this evening I'll move us on.

Male Human Expert 2/Alchemist 1/Warrior 1

Wait a minute, Viktor is now standing in the field in the fog in front of the trench with Gaspard? We'll have to resolve that pretty quickly or the two of us are going to die.

Gaspard hasn't the upper body strength to resist going whereever Viktor wants to take him. He is, however, filled with white-hot rage at the fact that whoever it is has the audacity to put him in danger and ruin his plan simultaneously. He turns his head, and sees the guy who claimed he volunteered. He hasn't the time for convincing stupid to let him go on with his plan, and he can't stop the guy from stopping him without setting him on Fire. While it was a pleasant thought, Fire was reserved for the enemy. Insults would have to do.

He turns and runs for the trench, crouched low, shouting and seething with anger.

"You're ruining my plan you imbecile! Fool! Don't stand up in the open without running for f#$$s sake! You're putting both our lives in danger you two-bit son of a whore!"

Out if town visiting family; impacts my posting time a fair bit. Sorry. Action incoming asap.

Seeing the others basically act on his plan in his stead, but without discussing the matter, or necessarily doing it well, York rolls his eyes and shakes his head. He mutters to no one in particular, "If you lot not only get me killed, but mess up my chance at glory, I'm going to haunt your asses so bad..."

He runs over to a particularly mucky area and dives in covering himself in grey and slimy earth, from the top of his head to the tip of his boots, taking time to make sure his face and hair are covered. Then, his rapid camouflage job completed, he hops the wall, and runs forward at a tangent to the direction he saw his squad mates move, hoping to make himself the furthest outlier. He the looks for another grey patch of stones, or muddy earth, to match his muddy complexion. He then goes dead still, like the others.

The yell grows every closer and slowly morphs into a cry of battle mingled with screams of pain as arrows, for you notice that your side is firing almost exclusively arrows, that are fired blindly almost inevitably find a mark. The scream continues to build as the survivors of the barrage near. You own mages begin to counter the covering fog, and a strong wind kicks up over the heads of those in the trench, driving the fog before it.

York:

You contact the horde first. Through the swirling wind and mist mist charging men, shields held up, rush over you on the way to the trench.
1d20 ⇒ 16
Take 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 bludgeoning damage
One man's boot knocks you in the head as he charges by. Hard. Another catches an arrow in the throat and stumbles into another before the pair tumble on top of you! You are now pinned under about 400 pounds of man, only half of which is dead already!

The men come pouring into your trench, shields held up to block the hail of death. Not one doesn't have at least two arrows on his shield.

They seems rather confused that you aren't there waiting for them with shields up and spears ready, but soon figure it out. There aren't many places to hide in a trench. They all carry huge tower shields and agile flails, though their armor is on the light side, presumably to make the run without unnecessary impediment.

They have spotted you, but you have gained a surprise round on them due to your unorthodox methods. They have won Initiative, so take one move OR standard action, then it will be their turns. The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Thomas is reeling from the force of the blow, though still barely able to stay on his feet. He leans back against the wall of the trench and does the only thing he can think to do. He focuses for a moment, and raises a thin wall of earth between himself and the man next to himself and Vik, then moves over behind Vik in order to try and come back to his senses.

Dunno how this goes, as I do not know if kinetic manfesting for kineticists counts as spell casting per se. Your call, if so you can take a shot at him while he is doing it.

Assuming he does not go down, he is going to move over behind Vik using his move action. And considering the cover is thin but opaque and counts as full cover, should allow him to move without provoking any AOO. It would be raised on the five foot square line between Thomas's current position, and the enemy soldier.

For reference, the wall of cover he raises has a hardness of 0 and 2hp for his level, so it would take all of a stiff breeze to knock it down, but it effectively counts as cover, so in theory it should block any attack or AOO until he knocks it down.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

That's a tough one. I belong to the group that thinks of kinetic powers like Avatar universe abilities, so I don't instinctively think of them as provoking normally.
Are they an SU, SP, or EX ability?

Male Human Expert 2/Alchemist 1/Warrior 1

Gaspard steps out of the way of the shock-troop's flail, and continues chanting. A brief pause; he flings his hand at the soldier before him. "Sleep." and he continues chanting.

It's not so much that it's weak, as that much of it is replicable by illusion, if the GM likes the way you think.

I am glad you asked that question. It actually varies depending on the power and the ability. The blast and the infusions for them are all Sp. The defense ability is Su. The Wild Talents vary by talent. This particular one happens to be Sp. So I suppose that in this case it would provoke.

Was looking at everything, and each wild talent that is not a blast infusion in the description lists whether it is Sp or Su. Will need to note that when I update character sheets for powers.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

Ya. If it's Sp it will provoke. Su powers don't. Please just note that when you cast it. So write up your fluff text, then below in OOC just note the power and its descriptor. That way it'll be easy to keep track of everything.

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

In the trench, Gaspard's spell gives Thomas and Victor a moment of respite as the magic muddles with the trooper's head.

The other is hit again by Aniolas, and is close to falling, but it isn't quite enough. He counters!

1d20 ⇒ 5
But his attack is over balanced and whooshes through the air beside the barbarian.

The fog fades from your side's countermeasures and the missile fire intensifies as the emplacements find real targets. That also opens up line of sight for the casters, and the mage war restarts with a furious barrage of magic from both sides. Fireballs, magic force bolts, acid, and things too great and terrible to easily recognize tear into both lines.

Thankfully, none get aimed directly at your section, though your already damaged left flank gets hammered pretty hard, loosing great chunks of it's stone protection.

These critical hits are getting a little ridiculous by now.

Gaspard directed his next spell towards the warrior between the halfling and the barbarian. If this worked, neither of them would be suspectible for a while, but hopefully his comrades would pick them off without his help. In the meantime, he ignored the melee around him, and peeked up over the front of the trench. Perhaps he could take out that crossbow position while the shooters were distracted by the charge, or maybe even shoot a mage in the back.

Aniolas, Female Barbarian

If the man had not fallen yet, Aniolas was going to start thinking about other methods of fighting this war, because this idea of fighting in the trenches in the rain was not something that she could endorse going further. Caught between the two of them, the man that she was fighting had little chance of avoiding all of their attacks.

How would present situation be described, mechanically speaking? It's not a grapple, not an intentional one on either part at least; it could be kind if a grapple where neither combatant has bothered to assume control, I suppose. If that were the case, would I provoke an AoO by attempting to grapple, given that we're in contact already? If it is merely a matter of positioning, what kind of actions would it be to either push him off or pull myself out from under him? Would either provoke?

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

I'm kinda treating it like you're both prone, but are gaining no real bonus against each other. I'll say you could grapple or push (reposition) without provoking, but standing or rolling away would provoke. Also remember that a hail of both magical and mundane death is flying two to three feet above you.

Just waiting on Thomas

Ah, so standing up = Bad.

I suppose that means that I could have been using my greatsword all this time. Oh well; using a knife makes a lot more sense in the circumstances, even if it is not nearly as mechanically advantageous. Hopefully, picking sense over mechanics doesn't get me killed.
