The Triple T

Game Master choyakuyama

Adventure in the old west, 5 years after the end of the American Civil War in a world where magic exists with 19th century technology.

Hello All
I am relatively new to Pathfinder only having a couple characters prior to coming online but, I like the game.

So I have a couple of ideas and wanted to see if there was any interest. Each idea is based on applying Pathfinder to the historical timeline, altered to have everything Pathfinder has to offer.

#1: The Old West: Characters would live in a small town in Colorado (alternate world) in around 1869, 4 years after the end of the American Civil War. The adventures would start from there.

#2: The adventure would start in America around 1936 or so and will expand across Europe and the world. (alot of globe trotting on this one).

This world is loosely based on historical events with ALOT of dramatic license.

Well, thanks for your time and let me know if you're interested.

I am always into games set in the Old West.

I agree with Yoricks, Old West all the way man!

I'd play old west with gunslingers a mavericks all the way!

Neat, either game sounds good.

I love me a good fantasy western romp.

Old West dot.

Seems like both of these would give you 90% people either plating Gunslinger orwanting to but deciding not to because of there being too many Gunslinger

Have you considered Gestalt?

Commonplace Guns / Guns Everywhere is also a useful approach (without power level problems) because it would allow everyone to use guns without being gunslingers. Or starting at a higher level (3? 5?) to allow for a one-level dip in Gunslinger without much loss otherwise.

Actually! If you want to only allow classes that use guns, you have a bit more wiggle room then just Gunslinger. These are some Archetypes I found that turn everyday classes into gun using classes.

-Tench Fighter(Fighter): While this one doesn't trade out anything to give you proficiency in firearms, a fighter will have so many feats that I doubt they'd care.
-Musketeer(Cavalier)
-Gunmaster(Vigilante)
-Steel Hound(Investigator)
-Sniper(Slayer): This one goes along the lines of Trech fighter as it called out the abilities can be used with firearms but don't trade the use of firearms with anything.
-Musketeer(Swashbuckler)
-Picaroon(Swashbuckler)

These are just the ones without magic, if we add in the ones with magic we get:

-Holy Gun(Paladin)
-Trophy Hunter(Ranger)
-Spellslinger(Wizard)

Also please note that some of these names maybe different. I use d20pfsrd to hunt them down and that site can't always use the same names for copywrite reasons.

There is also a Barbarian archetype that uses guns. Savage Technologist I believe.

Also Old West for the win. Interested.

True, I did miss that one.

Though honestly you're not missing much. They really should of had it alter Dex and Con, not Str and Dex. As you don't really need to worry about Str when shooting a gun in pathfinder.

Well the archetype assumes you are wielding a sword in one hand and a gun in the other, as you gain the benefits of the Two-Weapon Fighting feat when doing so.

Hmm, that would be odd to see. A sword in 1869! Unless you are talking about a Cavalry sword that military commanders get.

Well for game purposes those swords and other archaic weapons are going to be accessible.
Understand that everyone that make up the "support class" or background people will be NPC's and their use of weapons and the like will be less prevalent than those possessed by PC's.

Also will be posting the creation rules for the Old West game in a few.

Thanks

Ok here are the guideline for creation

character creation:
stats will be 20 point buy, nothing larger than 18 nothing lower than 8. Levels 3, 200 gp to start.

I don't mind evil characters just understand you are part of a party and may be good for game play.

I make all determinations on any disputes and have the last say but, I am pretty easy going and want this game to create a bit of its own flow.

Good backgrounds create good players and great characters. (my opinion)

Remember the American Civil War ended about 4 years ago so, ideas, backgrounds and equipment should be accordingly.

Firearms will be considered a martial weapon proficiency.

I will be using background skills as well as class skills, use them to flesh out your background.

Religion is LOOSELY based on the religion of the time. I will post notes on it. So if you have questions about "religious classes" just ask me.

Any other questions, or something i have forgotten, just let me know.

Okay what about archetypes that give you firearm proficiency but does so by removing martial proficiency? If firearms are now martial.

200gp

I feel obligated to point out that even if you're using Commonplace Guns to make them martial, 200gp isn't enough for anyone to buy a gun - let alone any mundane gear afterwards.

Also, is this Human only? Not sure if you're going more "Weird" west.

Yeah cheapest one is 750. Though most classes that give you the ability to use a gun properly give you a gun at 1st level.

good call...my bad...lets drop the pricing to this

New Pricing:
Revolver 40 gp

Rifle 50 gp

Rifle, pepperbox 70 gp

Shotgun 50 gp

Shotgun, double-barreled 70 gp

Starting gp to 500....if more is needed we can adjust.

Races are all Core with a bit of a twist

Races:
Each of the core races in this world represent a distinct culture as follows:
-Elf: French
-Dwarf: Scottish as well as Scandinavian
-Halfling: Irish and Gypsy
-Gnome: German
-Orc: varies
-Human: varies

I will post all this in the campaign notes within a couple hours.

Dot. Not sure I'll have time to submit but in case I do...

I will be put together a fun concept after I get off work... I'm feeling either a witch/wizard slinger or maybe just a slinger but thinking about a necro angle.

Also if anyone wants to do a joint backstory I'm open to that. Also going for a Gunmaster Vigilante!

Question for the GM: Could I pick a revolver as a Kensai Magus's chosen weapon if I also go Eldritch Archer? Thinking of doing a spellslinger type.

Hi all...Just touching base...got a couple thing taking president...job wise...nothing big , just need taken care of so, I should be able to post fulling by Saturday.

To answer questions:

1) if Firearm proficiency is a class skill and martial weapon proficiencies are removed , abide by that rule.

2) Kensai Magus have dedicated themselves to 1 Melee Weapon so that would be a no. You would have to be full Eldritch Archer.

I should be able to submit the campaign outline by friday night and any other info after.

Intrest, Timeskeeper i would love to do a joint background, I am planning on a gunslinger with the Maverick archetype, dual wielding guns, genral backstory being a civil war veteran who lost almost, if not everything in the war, and has become a gambler.

Character made, not 100% satisfied with it yet but I will wait to post until official recruitment has happened since rules are still fluid. A lot more of it is trying to build a character without strong mechanics to support the vision but after I start rping the character I'm sure it'll be a minor thing.

Also DM just surprised none of your races corespond to spanish/mexican as those seem like they might come up.

Are halflings still short?

Also: traits?

Lack of American Indian and Chinese as well, but agreed that Spanish/Mexican would feel pretty prevalent.

I'll say as a personal thought that I've always liked giving orcs a Native American flair, as it makes them more interesting (I also tend to play down the cannibal chaotic evil side of things), but that's just me.

Thanks for the feedback on Kensai, GM--I figured it'd probably be a no, but I wanted to ask. As I think on build, though, I do have another question--since guns are more prevalent and available, will this game include the rule where gunslingers gain Gun Training starting at level 1, rather than Gunsmith?

I wish to make sure this is still going to be a thing, since the site has been having problems and all it's been hard to keep track of things that aren't on my campaigns list.
