The Tomb of Horrors Part 1 (4e) - Group 1

Game Master Rev Rosey

The monster that is Tomb of Horrors.
Two groups are going through this.
For some reason I set up a second game thread for Group 2, but not for Group 1.

Swiftly establishing the evilness of his double, Norrin goes in for the kill. Left prone, there is little the false version can do as Norrin himself hides swiftly behind a pillar.

I don't think FN is unconscious as you hit him again and did damage. He can, therefore act.

Akemi leaves the Norrins to deal with each other and turns her attention to the prone hobgoblin, sliding him brutally across the floor.

Forgot the -2 for breaking the mark, but still hits easily.

Lisbarr's reproaching words have no effect whatever on the unconscious half-orc, but he does draw the unwelcome attention of False-Lyan. Jabbing swiftly at the half-elf, the simulacrum leaps through space and lands next to Lisbarr, grinning unpleasantly.

The Devourer strikes again, seeking to remind Rothel of his evil past and luring him with the promise of power. Luckily for the party, Rothel spots the incoming attack and ducks aside.

Next person to attack False Lyan does so at +4. If FL is hit before end Lisbarr's next turn, FL is dazed to end his next turn.

The face seems to convulse as Rothel's efforts to disable it cause it to malfunction. The attack is nearly unavoidable when it comes, but the effects are different.

Rothel feels his mind being tugged away, but some small fragment of him is startled to see a slim, glazed-eyed young woman appear next to him. She crouches, ready to attack.

Rothel, under other circumstances, would be aware of which Norrin or his state of functionality just by observing the nature of the battle thus far. However, under these circumstances, he does indeed intend to have his spirit wound the oncoming half-orc. Rahz-Ahk manifests solidly enough to slash the man with its claws. Given his ability to work out the nature of the situation, though, allows him to just see through the fog of control the trap has over him thanks to the sacrifice Norrin made to help him focus.

"I will soon have a duplicate present, his biggest threat and capability comes from our connection to the spirit. Remove the spirit and you not only wound him, but you force him to waste time appropriating a resummon and relying on meager basic combat maneuvers." the Deva offers on the best way to best him, or a mirror of him. "Use only weapon attacks on it, though, as it is mostly immune to effects that target large areas." Rahz-Ahk seems to snarl at Rothel's willingness to give away their weaknesses.

Norrin sprints across to Rothel, slaps the deva firmly and finds himself surrounded by Rothels as his plan works and another evil twin appears.

Rothel offers the most helpful advice that he can, even as Rahz-Ahk breaks free from his control and drives spirit claws deep into the approaching half-orc.

1d20 + 21 ⇒ (10) + 21 = 312d10 + 11 ⇒ (7, 4) + 11 = 22
Hit for 22, and teleport Akemi to L17. Akemi is dazed (se)
Move: Sudden Rush to teleport to M17

Status: Status: 61/127, 13/15, 7/9, 0/1, -2 to defenses to end Lyan's next turn.
Used: Mind Blade, Persistent Harrier, Tenebrous Shroud, Hobgoblin Resilience, Second Wind, Shadow Step, Baleful Teleport, Sudden Rush

Shouldn't FLyan be at 36? I did 21 to him on my turn, and he never took the 10 damage from my Defining Cut.

Now I am picturing Raya with a goatee, thanks Norrin.

:D I forgot to adorn False Norrin with either a goatee or a twirled moustache (I couldn't decide which, so it probably would have been both, plus a monocle).

Akemi, FL was healed by FR. I'm not sure about the 10. Rev?

Oops! didn't see that! well bugger.

Hobgoblins flicker disconcertingly around the pillars, dealing damage and rearranging the battlefield to their satisfaction. Akemi is dazed by the activity as she finds herself lifted willy-nilly to a location not of her choosing.

The companions find themselves forced closer to the Devourer's face.

Added in the extra 10 damage to False Lyan who is now bloodied again.

Close burst 5 v Ref.
On hit, target is dominated (se). Dominated targets make at-will attacks against allies.
Aftereffect - a hazy eldritch simulacrum of of the target appears in a square adjacent to the target. Apart from being immune to the effect of the trap, it is functionally identical to the target. It rolls init and attacks the following round.

As an immediate interrupt, a character in the burst can make a DC27 Acrobatics check to minimise the effects of the Devourer's attack. On success, target takes half damage and is not dominated.

Disablement: 6 successes before 3 failures.
Characters must be adjacent to the adjacent to the trap.
DC22 Arcana or Thievery.

Lisbarr looks on with dismay at the number of false allies. He hopes he can attack the right ones.

Move to L11;
Lightning spike centred on Akemi, area burst 1, attacks all enemies in burst. Versus Fort.
vs False Rahz-Ahk 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (3) + 18 = 21
vs False Rothel 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (3) + 18 = 21
vs False Lyan 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (4) + 18 = 22
on a hit (haha) 1d8 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16 lightning damage and target is dazed to the end of Lisbarr's next turn.

Lisbarr feels he has had more productive days.

(EDIT: Oh wait. The face goes before me. Then again, tomorrow looks like it will be pretty crazy, and I don't think the turn would change much if the Face attacked again...so I guess I'll leave this as is?)

(Well, sorry gang. Mind control, you know how it is.)

The young lady draws a knife from behind her back under a cloak of storms. She's wearing a red vest and simple black pants with a black sash around her waist, not appearing all that impressive. Except for the defensive looking bracers, the fingerless black gloves with studded knuckles, and the black headband with a single diamond in it tied around her forehead.

She says in a dull monotone, "Your kung fu is no good here."

She activates Five Storms (Close Burst 1)
I17, J17, J18 are affected (Each Enemy she can see in burst). (Rahz-Ahk, Norrin, Rothel)

Vs. Rahz-Ahk 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (17) + 20 = 371d8 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Vs. Norrin 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 271d8 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Vs. Rothel 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (10) + 20 = 301d8 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

If she strikes ANY of these three targets, Centered Flurry of Blows will activate and automatically hit. Her targets for Centered Flurry of Blows will be:

-Akemi: Anri will activate Starblade Flurry, throwing her knife and automatically hitting Akemi. Akemi will take 7 Damage and be be slided 1 square, to M16, so as to prevent her from linking up with her comrades.

-Rothel: Rothel will be struck normally by Flurry of Blows, and take 7 damage. He will be Slided to K18.

After this, Anri will activate Five Storm's Full Discipline Movement Power. normally, she would shift two squares, but because she is a Monk of the Four Winds with Mystery of the East Wind active, she can add 2 normal movement squares to the beginning or the end of any shift...and that shift counts as flying. thus:

Anri shifts to J15. The first two squares are shifting (thus not provoking any OA's as she shifts around Rahz-Ahk) and the next two are normal movement.

Finally! Anri rolls her Save vs. Domination: 1d20 ⇒ 11

Anri blinks, realizing what she's doing, "What!? I...Where am I? What is this? ...well, I don't FEEL like I was drugged and violated by drunken sailors. That's a good sign, right? I. What. I'm so confused..."

Anri's Vitals:
HP: 100/100, AC: 34, Fort: 25, Ref: 30, Will: 31, Lightning Resistance 8 (East Wind), Force Resistance 8 (South Wind)

(And sorry again guys. It's been a while since I've done this. I already see about a dozen ways to cut down on the length of these posts. @_@ Oh well. I made mistake: All of those attacks were Dexterity vs. Reflex.)

Hate to be the lawyer, but while Dominated you can only take 1 action (to include free actions) and only at-wills (not that what you used isn't, but just in case you change your action).

Thoroughly bemused by the abundance of conflicting images, Lisbarr waves his hands wildly sending lightning uselessly into the air.

The Face targets the only foe in reach still available to succomb to its power, but Akemi's mental defenses are far too strong. As will happen if the GM rolls a 2.

Welcome to the fold, Anri :) Rothel's quite right, you can only take the one action and associated frees, so I'm not sure you can activate the full discipline movement power.

The newcomer immediately makes her presence felt, instinctively lashing out at those nearest to her. Recognising the signs, Norrin ducks aside, but neither Rahz-Ahk nor Rothel are fast enough. Under the impact, Rothel and Akemi stagger backwards.

Looks like 7 damage to Akemi and 15 to Rothel.

With a swift shake of her head, the stranger's eyes clear and she returns to herself, albeit bewildered by both her own sudden appearance and her surroundings. The ancient stone hall is filled with figures, some fully substantial, some ethereal, and all engaged in combat.

It was a close attack, Rahz-Ahk is unaffected.

Of course. I always forget that. Amending post above.

Is that enough damage to dismiss False Rahz-Ahk (for the time being, at least)?
